100% I can't swim & I got into the coral reef australia on boat trip and got in and it scared the shit out me just bobbing up and down waiting on a shark coming to get me 🙈🤣

Roberts wife going into the water to feel close to him, like all those who in grieving put garlands on side of Road where a son or daughter succumbed in an accident. Why search & rescue dont map the currents puzzles me. Glad he made it. Thanks be to The Living God.
Brilliant work. Amazing acting. Outstanding documentary and story telling. Had me in tears. So glad he was okay and God bless him and his family. A trial like that makes me appreciate life more. I just cannot believe he would get back into that water after that. I would have given up diving and never gone back to the sea. I think I would have been sick of the sea but good on hiim. Brave man.

Seriously why even use planes to look for people when every single time I watch one of these the people in need always say they see the plane yet the plane NEVER sees the people like holy crap there’s gotta be a better way to utilize a plane to look for people idk infrared or something
Right like why don't diversuits come equipped with something that makes them visible to planes. And why do the planes fly so high and never in a criss cross pattern. They don't look hard enough if you ask me just the altitude of the planes seem wrong when looking for people. 🙄
Yea I agree, when I was in the navy and they came out with the digital camouflage uniforms there was a rumor that when they came in contact with salt water they turned bright orange lol obviously that wouldn’t work cuz they only could change color once and then be useless and with spray and waves splashing that’s not feasible BUT point is there’s gotta be a better way to finding people. I will say I don’t know jack about search and rescue tho so who knows maybe I’m just a UA-cam expert talking s$!& lol
As soon as I see a new episode upload it’s becomes a good day. It sucks people have to go through such extreme stress almost death for me to be entertained. This is the only thing I watch. I hope this show always has stories even tho people unfortunately have to go through hell. But I also love the survival stories and the way they put it together is just so amazing. Why don’t these rescuers not understand about the current in the area being searched? They should know how the currents work and how a person etc. would be drifting away to sea. No excuse.
Agreed. I was traveling years back to New Smyrna Beach Fl on a family vacation when those two 14 yr old boys from Jasper Fl went missing. They’d fine out in a smaller boat and a storm came through. I’ll never forget it. It devastated me for a couple years. I thought about those boys almost daily. Strange maybe but my son was their age and I just couldn’t imagine. Anyway, they gave up the search for them on day 6 or 7. I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe they were still alive and had just been taken far away from where the search teams assumed they’d be. I pray that wasn’t the case and they drowning in the storm or something quick.

You hear and see rescue helicopters and they fly over where last seen then the current if searched. Going out into the Gulf Stream doesn’t take long. Sometimes found and sometimes a storm had destroyed their boat.
@@buzz5969 no, the set currents and tides are always the same. But that's far, FAR from all the possible current movement of the ocean. There are top and under currents, rip currents and rip tides, and especially the further out you are, the more likely a current may surface and carry you somewhere miles away very quickly and in a different direction than the "basic local" currents. It's ignorant to think that those whose job it is to study and calculate the known currents simply say "yeah, let's search this grid" if they could predict all of them and know that another current appeared, twisted with another and then sent the person or vessel in a completely different direction. Do you think they'd get hundreds of people purposely searching the wrong area, in boars, planes and helicopters, for fun? Or as a joke?
I have to admit that comment about other peoples despair I mean for me personally, it might sound sad to say this, but it helps me to have a higher appreciation for what I do have

NOT SURE WHY its so difficult to find divers lost at sea? They have heat detection devices. You go to the point of dive site to start search. Take 1-4 helicopters or planes and go in 2 opposited directions away from dive site. When you hit 4or 5 miles turn around 1 or 2 degees back to dive site with both helicoters. Then repeat this process until you form a complete comb. Obviously you take current conditions into play. They just dont care enough to use the resources.
Absolutely! It’s like- If we can acknowledge this from our living rooms at home why on earth can’t the proper people do the proper kind of search???????? Beyond frustrating. I feel like every single diver in the ocean should have some sort of built-in reflective thing sewn into their gear like a part of their gear 🤷🏼♀️ OR- And don’t ask me how but with all the thousands of ways we have progressed in this world it SHOULD be possible...some type of radio signal built into their suits as well! How often are people fighting for their lives for hours, days, months even, when it comes to these stories unfolding in a vast ocean??!!??!!!!! some get found by chance! Some never do! Imagine what a radio transmitter of some sort either attached to their dive suit, etc would do to people lost at sea! Call me crazy but I’ve heard one too many of these stories and yes it’s a personal risk BUT- we take personal risks every day in this world where people have invested and invented things and ways to keep us safer.

On all these episodes I find it incredibly annoying when these rescue planes never see anyone. What are they trained to see? Why even send the plane out if it cant see anything? so frustrating. Save the fuel if your gonna be useless in the rescue. And most times they are flying right over the person. Makes no sense to me.
I highly doubt they did. They probably looked for him for a good while but youbmay have missed the part where he got swept away from the boat very far, very fast on an underwater current. They wouldn't have known where to search exactly and at some point, would have had to stop because boats do need fuel and will run out. And we also know they called for help quickly because in this very video, Rob talks about seeing a bunch of boats searching that first day in areas near him but none got close enough to see him. People just do not get the concept of how you can become virtually invisible in the ocean, even to those looking hard for you. And it's just endless. You can be at one degree in between 2 degrees where people are staring and they may still miss you. And it just gets wider and wider from the start point.
I don’t know about anybody else as far as diving goes, but I have dived and it is actually really quite shocking, just how powerful the tide can become in seconds
As your a diver I want to ask you something. When the guy in this video was trying to swim to the boat & the island which was a hopeless task my question is why couldn't to swim underwater & not on top. He would be under the waves & would therefore be less of an effort & you can swim faster. I realise you would have no sense of direction but wouldn't it be worth a try.
@garyclarke9685 I'm not a diver but the waves aren't the problem it's called a rip current which is the problem, it's pulling the whole tide of water towards the larger body of water which in this case is the Atlantic Ocean, if u remember he got carried by the current while he was underwater from the beginning
Notice as soon as he took his life reserve and air tank off he had shark problems...looks more like a sealion/seal with just his wet suit on and his heartbeat is more exposed without the life reserve on...or maybe just coincidence? Interested to hear what others think on this theory.

Also, men don't mind dying earlier instead of living with all the ailments of old age, living in retirement homes which is mostly old women, living like a baby that can barely take care of itself. 15:40 This is why divers should have a pocket with a small mirror, and a large foldable and very bright neon colored flag or cloth that floats on the surface to make themselves stand out. Easier solution compared to carrying a flare gun.

Well helo ISBA fans. Im relatively new to the show so as im completely hooked i dont mind jumping around if there are any suggestions. I have seen about 6 so far. My favourite being the one with Crocodiles and Hippos on the Zambezi S2 one i think. Anyway back to this episode... Can I ask why a gps and an emergency flashing light can’t be part of a divers gear?? I’ve never dived. I can’t say if I ever would. However, all the technology we have today, you mean to tell me a transmitter and light can’t be used by a diver that might get lost or swept away by rip current?
I live on the Maine coast and several generations of the men in my family have been lobstermen. I've grown up and spent the majority of my life on and around the ocean. Although the North Atlantic Ocean, that I'm familiar with, is different in some ways from the South Pacific Ocean, that this guy is in, ultimately the ocean is the ocean. Having said that, ocean tides and currents tend to be predictable in timing, direction and intensity. In Maine, we have extremely accurate schedules and maps of the tides and currents around our coast. I'm assuming that the same is true for every other coastal state or region in every other western country. With that in mind, I don't understand why the New Zealand coast guard wouldn't be able to locate this guy by simply following the current maps and multiplying the current speed by the amount of time he'd been in.
I thought perhaps that the catch bag could have been used as a face covering or hood to protect from the sun. Could have modified it with the knife. Easy to say when you weren't there and watching while eating takeaway sitting on the lounge.
I live in California and go surfing/body-boarding almost everyday. I love the ocean, but I also respect it and I know the danger I may encounter when I go out there.
People have been conditioned to think of dogs and cats as individuals and every other animals as resources. There is absolutely no difference. They are sentient beings. Going in the ocean to destroy them is evil. People deserve to get the same back

I live in the area which is close to Mana Island. The relief in the community when Rob was found alive was immense, it felt like a miracle.

I don’t know about anybody else as far as diving goes, but I have dived and it is actually really quite shocking, just how powerful the tide can become in seconds
As your a diver I want to ask you something. When the guy in this video was trying to swim to the boat & the island which was a hopeless task my question is why couldn't to swim underwater & not on top. He would be under the waves & would therefore be less of an effort & you can swim faster. I realise you would have no sense of direction but wouldn't it be worth a try.
@garyclarke9685 I'm not a diver but the waves aren't the problem it's called a rip current which is the problem, it's pulling the whole tide of water towards the larger body of water which in this case is the Atlantic Ocean, if u remember he got carried by the current while he was underwater from the beginning
Notice as soon as he took his life reserve and air tank off he had shark problems...looks more like a sealion/seal with just his wet suit on and his heartbeat is more exposed without the life reserve on...or maybe just coincidence? Interested to hear what others think on this theory.
Wow. I guess pride does go before a fall. All that hell he put himself through because his ego got bruised during a mid-life crisis. Glad God gave him a second chance. He had a wife and kids and he risked it all to prove he could catch a lobster !!

I know it’s ridiculous to think with all his training that he wouldn’t already know this but that’s perhaps why I am even more confused - why would he start thrashing around after he spotted the shark? The worst possible thing he surely knew was the number one thing to not do?

@Barbieinawheelchair Women live longer on average by 5 years because they are constantly going to the doctor, they live life on easy mode, they don't have the degree of pressure and burden of performance men have, men have 10 to 15 times more testosterone, men do more physical labor, etc. It's the concept of the candle that burns brightest burns out first. Also, men don't mind dying earlier instead of living with all the ailments of old age, living in retirement homes which is mostly old women, living like a baby that can barely take care of itself. No, women can have all that. 😂😂😂

15:40 This is why divers should have a pocket with a small mirror, and a large foldable and very bright neon colored flag or cloth that floats on the surface to make themselves stand out. Easier solution compared to carrying a flare gun.
Love the flag idea!! Something that can be folded and packaged super tiny, bright, with reflectors. You should run with that entrepreneurial idea fast!

Can I ask why a gps and an emergency flashing light can’t be part of a divers gear?? I’ve never dived. I can’t say if I ever would. However, all the technology we have today, you mean to tell me a transmitter and light can’t be used by a diver that might get lost or swept away by rip current?

I live on the Maine coast and several generations of the men in my family have been lobstermen. I've grown up and spent the majority of my life on and around the ocean. Although the North Atlantic Ocean, that I'm familiar with, is different in some ways from the South Pacific Ocean, that this guy is in, ultimately the ocean is the ocean.
Having said that, ocean tides and currents tend to be predictable in timing, direction and intensity. In Maine, we have extremely accurate schedules and maps of the tides and currents around our coast. I'm assuming that the same is true for every other coastal state or region in every other western country.
With that in mind, I don't understand why the New Zealand coast guard wouldn't be able to locate this guy by simply following the current maps and multiplying the current speed by the amount of time he'd been in.
A very big lesson here. If you go somewhere alone, tell someone else about the place.
I thought perhaps that the catch bag could have been used as a face covering or hood to protect from the sun. Could have modified it with the knife. Easy to say when you weren't there and watching while eating takeaway sitting on the lounge.

I live in California and go surfing/body-boarding almost everyday. I love the ocean, but I also respect it and I know the danger I may encounter when I go out there.
It was funny seeing the big pole holding him up in the water but I know they couldn't just let him tread there for hours to make the video!! 😆 🤭 😅
