Dylan, so nice to see Berwick from the water again. I grew up just outside Berwick and learned to sail on the Tweed in the 60s + 70s then moved to London. Must sail up the East Coast now I am retired. Unlike you, my Missus won't even go on my boat so it would be solo, all the way to Stronsay.

Just found your terrific videos and are making them our evening entertainment aboard our boat, S/V Galapagos, moored in Tacoma, WA, USA. We dream of sailing around the UK but seeing your lovely small boat, and all the other lovely small craft everywhere you go, wonder if our boat would be too big and ungainly. Of course, we could not do up river or tide flats as you do, and more's the pity. What a lovely way to clean the bottom of the boat and have a nice, restful night. We wonder, looking at the films, how the anchoring is off the east coast and up into Scotland? We draw 6 feet, and our 47 foot ketch might not fare well in many of these protected harbors you pull into. We sail up here in the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver Island, where there are many good anchorages from which to choose (except down the Strait of Juan de Fuca, where the choices are slim to none). This summer we will tootle down the west coast and on to Mexico and beyond. We love your films!

wow - you sail is such a wonderful place.
      Worry not about finding places
to anchor and good harbours - there are lots of depth challenged 50
footers around. Marinas all over the place eager to accommodate you. The
east coast is shallower but still plenty of places.
      Dylan
PS - filming boat has been sold, filming has stopped for the time being
until I save up for the next bit

Ah, well I'm sad you've stopped filming for the moment, but do understand how labor intensive and time consuming it is to make such wonderful films. I am relieved about the anchorages, but we pretty much say 'no' to marinas. Our boat sucks up all our money, so not a lot left over for moorage. We are classic cruisers: boat poor but man do we love our baby. She's an old girl, but with her stout fiberglass hull, completely seaworthy. We looked at a couple of Westerly boats when we were boat shopping. We fell in absolute love with a Westerly Sealord, but it broke our hearts how much she had been let go. We'll be in Scotland in the spring for daughter's wedding. I hope to take my husband to Holy Island, where I visited two years ago and thought to myself 'how cool would it be to sail into that little harbor'. Looks like I was right! If you are in the mood, you can check out our blog at LittleCunningPLan.com. Yes. It's named after the Black Adder character. Our favorite.

the good news is that since I ran out of money and sold the boat people have started chipping in. At first I was confused as to why that would happen. Then I got an email from a boat builder.
      This is what he said.
“Over the years I have been downloading all your films and I watch
them in the morning with my coffee because the news is so horrible. I
was mortified when I discovered that you had sold your boat. I thought
you would be there forever. I assumed that you did not need any money.
I think that I had rationalised not tapping you anything because, in
my head, you were some sort of eccentric English millionaire
philanthropist genius amateur film maker who thought that sailing a crap
boat to interesting places was cooler than sailing a good one. I
realise this was a way of me justifying not giving any money to a friend
I had been sailing with for many miles and over several years. When
I heard you had sold the boat I realised that it was partly my fault so
I sent the money for the eight DVD sets sitting on my hard drive.”
this is one amazing world. So as things stand I am more or less on schedule for a re-boot in 2018 with an even toughter small boat

Well that is brilliant! You'll be getting a donation from us as well, as we are very much enjoying your films. I do think that people are so used to getting information for free on the web that it's hard to know what to pay for and what not to. Also I find that there is an attitude prevalent in the US that if you own a boat, you must be wealthy as you can afford it. Huh. These people simply do not understand boat lust. Some of us will spend money on a boat before we will spend it on a proper vacation with airplanes and rental vehicles. It's a mindset few understand. So no surprise that many viewers saw you as independently wealthy. If they are Americans, they probably thought you were some kind of British royalty, because, of course, all the Brits have blue blood. A young couple we know who has been making their way sailing and land traveling and doing youtube videos has just decided to sell their boat and work for awhile. They made it clear that the amount of work involved in making the videos was just too great for the payout. I'm sure that is true, and they are not professionals in any way. We also read about what happened to you with Google and Mike (the spouse and captain), who is a web developer, was pretty bummed about that. It does seem completely unjust. When computers are the ones who make decisions for people. everyone loses, but now I'm sounding like an old fogey. Look for a blog post about you and your videos from us in the near future. Who knows? Maybe some other folks will throw a little cash your way. It all helps, I'm sure. By the way, that rocky entrance to that cove in Scotland? Looks just like home to me. Just a bunch of hull crunchers waiting for an unsuspecting sailboat. Shudder.
