Thanks so much for this video, Jason. I love the last point the most - don't reduce the quality of your drawing to suit any client's low budget. They won't be there to defend you when others see it. Remember, your art speaks for you wherever it is. Once again, thank you! Regards, Josh.
Am an intermediate artist, this was ma nightmare (pricing) I fear high price thinking that I will chase client away, I fear low price thinking that I will be used... This video gave ma another dimension and a landmark to ma art career... Thanks dear you have won me as your follower... Love from Uganda
@@JasonLegendaryArt yap I have watched all your videos for hours and a long time and at just 15years I am earning alot from my Art thanx for the vids...Uganda .. Kampala in the house
This is a different style from my other videos, let me know, though, what you think of it, would you like if the "Art Advice Videos" are made like this or do you like just plain talking without any edits. Of course, the usual drawing tutorial will be back in the next video, I have a nice drawing I want you to see. The friends on Patreon have already started enjoying it, check it out at patreon.com/jasonlegendaryart
I've been dying to see your video and you came through when I needed it. Jason, you're an inspiration to me and many others,my respect goes to you, sir🙇🏽♂️
There is also the per square inch or centimeter method. You start by getting the dimensions of your drawings/paintings. Get the area and multiply it by how much you value a square inch/centimeter of your work. Of course, you'll have to start low if you are an amateur or just starting your art career.
Yeah, that's a good option, many artists use this square inch method but i found that the difference between the price of the sizes tends be quite vast when you multiply it as you mentioned.
Admiring the presentation of the video. So professional and I can only wonder how many hours is in this video. Thanx for your patience Jason you are truly a LEGEND
Ok, I have some problems. I calculated the time it took to paint. The work with the size of 30x50 cm took me 35 hours, while the work with the size of 25x30 cm (which is half the size) also took me 35 hours. The minimum wage in my country is 28 PLN per hour, so for the larger piece, I should receive 980 PLN. For the smaller piece, I should also receive 960 PLN. Unfortunately, I sold the smaller piece for 400 PLN because the client thought it was too expensive due to its smaller size, etc. Based on the canvas size calculations, theoretically, my base rate comes out to 8 PLN. This means that for the larger piece, I should have received 640 PLN (340 PLN less), and for the smaller piece, 400 PLN. The problem is that this implies I am working for less than the minimum wage, which is not normal. So what should I do? I just want to know what is fair for both the client and myself. At the same time, I see other people selling a single painting for 1500 USD (which is 6000 PLN). A painting I could also create, but I would be laughed at for such a price in my country. At that price, I could live for several months, while instead, every month I wonder if I will have enough to eat for lunch. The minimum wage is meant to ensure that people earn enough for their basic needs. When the payment for a painting is less than what I would earn based on the time spent working, it means it's unfair. Your video is excellent, and I’ve never looked at pricing this way before, but that’s because paintings of the same size can take anywhere from 5 hours to 50 hours of work, which is completely disproportionate. How should I handle this?
The economic situation differ from country to country, as a result there is nothing you can do than manage what you have until the situation improve in your area
My drawing has really improved since I came across your channel jason. Your videos combine fun and education,Thumbs up 👍👍. Can you do realistic hands next?
Hi, I've watched a couple times. Been building an inventory of work for 3 years. Trying to figure pricing. I don't think you described how to arrive at a base price. Thanks.
Yeah, there's no teaching that. You come up with a random number and if the final price is too low you bump up the base price. If the final price is too high, you bump the base down.
Hey it's been a while I really love this video and your teaching skills man it's out of this world it's really nice also what the title of the movie you used to explain to us.
Every one goes through that phase, I can't remember how many times I said exactly that. But you'll come back, if you love drawing you'll come back to practicing and eventually conquer everything
