@@SharonisCarin321 If there is, it is extremely minor. Better turning with the plane usually does not sacrifice speed or acceleration. Pipsy and Tiptup may have this issue with their great handling, but those issues are extremely minor to the point that it virtually does not matter. The only other issue I see is if your finger gets numb after holding down the R button after a short while, as this is the case for some people.

i always mained Tiptup when i played this game at my friends house. hours of fun and laughs. we even put a ban on T.T because we both knew how good of a driver he was!
Pipsy has always been my main choice for play with Conker being 2nd and Timber being 3rd. While I do love all the characters tho, Pipsy of course felt the most fun for me to use even with her being the slowest. (I do wish this game made a real comeback from its N64 days to the Switch. It'd be fun to see this game come back. It was so much fun. The music, the tracks' style for the games time, and its hub world and story was fun too. Even tho you could probably do the whole thing in about an hour or so XD) (Sorry for the long comment. Really nice video! I hope to see more soon c: Diddy Kong Racing or anything)
Also, seeing you play makes me wish I drifted more : ( I've pretty much neglected to do that even with unlocking T.T. T.T wasn't that difficult for me but would still have been quicker if I used the drift method. I only used the green boost rainbow smoke method x.x I've got some practice to do.
Finishing the game in under an hour is rather impossible, unless the wrong warp is used (requires version 1.1 of the game, usually the Japanese version). I'm no speedrunner, but I've seen it done before. Glad this video was useful. I do have character playthroughs/longplays of this game. Feel free to check them out.
This may not be the best place to post headcanons, but here I go anyway: - Unlike most Kremlings, Krunch is on good terms with the Kong family. And with a name like Krunch, you would probably guess that he loves to eat. Which is true; he has the biggest appetite out of everyone in the group of friends, often gathering all the snacks he can before a big adventure. - Bumper is a genius inventor, has graduated from M.I.T., and his favorite food is cranberries. - Drumstick grew up on a farm. He isn't exactly the bravest of the bunch, but he always comes through for his pals. - Tiptup is clumsy. (This is actually confirmed by the manual, so I don't know if it counts as a headcanon, but whatever.) - This version of Conker is an adventurous thrillseeker who's always up for a challenge. - Timber is playful and curious. This usually lands him into some amusing situations. - Pipsy is the quiet one. She may not speak up very often, but when she does, you should probably listen. Also, she looks up to her father, who is an astronaut. - T.T. is the gang's resident alien, hailing from the planet Tickatock. Sent to Earth for his safety at a young age, he was then found and raised by an elderly couple living near Whale Bay, where he learned to appreciate racing. He would always time himself in his head while practicing as well, so now he never loses track of time. - Ever since Their reunion in Smash Ultimate, Diddy and Banjo have been petitioning for Conker to join. So far, the whole roster has given their signatures, but Mario needed more than a little bit of convincing.
Huh, nice to know that my man Banjo is top 3. So anytime I fail a race, its due to my skill, not the character. My dad use to play this and beat the game as pipsy, he likes how she handles corners which I can admittedly struggle with at times.
I always play as Timber the Tiger in this game. Reason being is in my opinion he is a balanced character. The Tiger is also pretty fast in all of his vehicles, that’s why I like him
Bumper is my boy. He's a great all-rounder who leans a little bit more towards the max speed side (rather than acceleration) while still having a pretty decent turning. The first Wizpig race was something of an eye-opener when I found out I could beat it with Bumper more easily than with any of the lightweights or the heavyweights. He fits my playstyle perfectly. I have since completed both adventures with him only.
There is definitely a balancing problem in the roster. Krunch is too underpowered as a heavyweight, and T.T. is too overpowered as a middleweight. Banjo and Drumstick are pretty balanced as heavyweights. However, I think Banjo's top speed needs to be buffed a bit, and Drumstick's acceleration needs to be nerfed a bit. I feel like their stats should be this: Banjo's revised stats: - Weight Group: Heavy - Acceleration: 2.0 ~ Below Average - Handling: 2.0 ~ Below Average - Top Speed: 4.0 ~ Above Average Krunch's revised stats: - Weight Group: Heavy - Acceleration: 1.0 ~ Very Low - Handling: 1.0 ~ Very Low - Top Speed: 5.0 ~ Very High Drumstick's revised stats: - Weight Group: Heavy - Acceleration: 1.5 ~ Low - Handling: 1.5 ~ Low - Top Speed: 4.5 ~ High T.T.'s revised stats: - Weight Group: Middle - Acceleration: 3.5 ~ Slightly Above Average - Handling: 2.5 ~ Slightly Below Average - Top Speed: 3.5 ~ Slightly Above Average NOTE: With the plane, T.T.'s acceleration and top speed would be the same as Krunch's. For Banjo, his top speed being above average would make him a bit more balanced as a heavyweight. For Krunch, his top speed being very high would make him more balanced as a heavyweight, as it makes up for his handling and acceleration, and he would be the complete opposite of Pipsy. For Drumstick, his acceleration being low would make him a bit more balanced as a heavyweight, and he would be the complete opposite of Tiptup. For T.T., his acceleration and top speed being slightly above average would make him more balanced as a middleweight. These are the revised stats I came up with for those characters. I imagine the top speed of Pipsy and Tiptup would still match with Diddy's without bananas. If I had to guess, I would say the hovercraft attributes of those characters (Pipsy and Tiptup) were likely intentional. For balancing purposes, the top speed of Pipsy and Tiptup should at least match with their car stats. I also imagine the plane category would still have some drastic changes. If I had to guess, I would say the plane attributes of those characters (Pipsy, Tiptup, and T.T.) were likely unintentional. For balancing purposes, the top speed of Pipsy and Tiptup should at least match with their car stats, and the acceleration of T.T. should match with his car and hovercraft stats. If there is someone looking to modify or properly remaking this game, please consider these revised stats.
Those reworked stats sound pretty good to me. I'm guessing they made T.T. overpowered since he's the big reward for beating all his times on every course, but at the same time, having excellent speed AND excellent acceleration with OK handling (that's better than the handling of all the heavyweights) kinda makes every other character useless. Maybe they intended for players to use him for adventure 2 since some of the silver coin challenges require you to go off course and T.T. can recover from that easily.
If I were to make my own racing game like this, I would not only show a character’s true stats without lying, but also make everyone either slightly or very unique (no copycats).
I always thought as a kid that banjo actually sucked haha I only played as him because of banjo kazooie assumed diddy was the best then timber but I guess I was backwards
Bumper and Banjo were my mains as a little kid. Not only did I like them, but they were, say "accomodating" compared to Krunch. I was fascinated by Krunch (been a Metalhead since I was a kid, and he gave me those kinda vibes with his leather jacket with skull and crossbones), and I would've loved to use him well, but two things stopped me: at first, my English wasn't so good (I'm Italian and was only 6-7 years old when I started playing this game, and the game doesn't include that language option), so I didn't know any of the tricks Taj teaches you after boss races (green boost, brake sliding, tapping the A button etc). Secondly, even when I managed to understand them simply by pressing buttons in the hub world, I realized I was meant to really master them if I wanted to play as Krunch, because his handling and acceleration are just God awful...but I was so little, I couldn't be bothered; that's why I picked Bumper and Banjo (which I still really like, btw). Now that I'm older, I have finally mastered Krunch. Heck, I even managed to finish both Adventure 1 and 2 JUST USING HIM. Of course, it took a shit ton of time for both...
What exactly makes Conker and Bumper better than Diddy? Also I always thought Timber was top 5 as well, but people always seem to rate him low. Why is that?
Bumper, Conker, and Timber are better than Diddy simply because of their top speed. As for Timber, people who rate him low likely have not played as him enough times. Not their fault, though.
What about size though: generally you want your character to be as small as possible. Don't know about actual hitbox dimensions, but I always thought Pipsy is awesome not only for her handling and acceleration but also because she's so tiny. I would also argue that your character (ideally) changes your playstyle a bit. The easier your handling the more it becomes worth it to do small maneuvers to pick up bananas, power ups and drive over speed zips. The characters with bad handling but high top speed generally should just go for the fastest route with no deviations instead.
Size doesn't really matter. Only weight matters. In this case, Pipsy being a lightweight is a huge advantage over Krunch being a heavyweight for certain tracks. It really depends on how good the player is at controlling that character. Pipsy's hovercraft attributes are bad, but the player can get used to them over time. Krunch's top speed is really the only good thing about him, aside from his hovercraft attributes, and it will take dedication to master him. In the end, it's really about having a main character(s) with a secondary character(s).
@@William5000000 Yeah, I think Crunch is just one of those characters that is meant to be bad. His only salvaging stat (top speed) is easily offset by his poor acceleration. At least in multiplayer races (i.e. with smart opponents) getting hit by a single rocket sets you back way more than the top speed could make up for.
I think Conker is the nicest rounded off character, he's not the fastest but he has a nice compromise between speed and manoeuvrability, also it's Conker
fr conker is my 2nd favorite because he helped me do the final race i needed to unlock t.t (it was darkmoon caverns and that was really hard but with conker it was so easy)
Nope. Those sites listing the stats are actually wrong, and even the instruction booklet is wrong on that. I've done massive testing on the characters to know that.
I think giving SOME tangible advantage to high weight would've helped balance things a bit more: like colliding with a light character doesn'ta ffect you but makes the lighter character spin out or lose speed. Banana's buffer against attacks a bit, I think heavier characters should ALWAYS take projectiles better then the lightweights. ALSO some more straight aways: Krunch dominates teh Walrus race b/c that's the most straight-ahead course, and as a result you do find with a lot of characterst he Walrus simply catches up. But yeah unlike many cart racers this one was very imbalanced in terms of lightweights and heavyweights
hey William, can you help me pls! i am a very good DKR player and i like to challenge myself with only playing as Krunch my Problem is just one race! the first Wizpig Encounter drives me crazy, when i drive over the edge, Krunch is going the complete opposite direction, even when i am driving straight!
I think you are either referring to the part where the Zipper is before crossing over the water or the part where the Zipper is before the starting line. Because Krunch's handling is very bad, you have to turn in advance. That is your main problem. Just keep at it, and you will get used to it. Good luck.

tt is the best overall but is a secret character you dont get till completed most of game. drumstick can get early and is more speed over handling. pipsy and tiptup are the best for the most part. they have great handling and acceleration, great control at speed and have better acute turning for sharp bends . they also have a better turning axis whilst jumping in hovercraft which makes them the best hovercraft drivers. airplane are easy mode and so might be better to go with pure speed. still i choose pipsy and tiptup every time. didy kong racing - mario kart 64so can easily choose character based on one game or other. pipsy and tiptup - toad badger, conker, tiger - yoshi , mario and luigi kruch, drumstick - bowser, wario and dk. tt - no counter part.
Sure, Pipsy and Tiptup have great handling and acceleration, but their main drawback (excluding the plane) is their top speed. So bananas (at least 4 or more) are very crucial, especially for Pipsy. Still, for novice players, it's not much of a problem, as their handling and acceleration makes up for their top speed. I recommend Pipsy and Tiptup to those players, even Diddy Kong. Besides their main drawback with the car, their other drawback is their handling with the hovercraft. Sure, the top speed of Pipsy and Tiptup matches with Diddy's with the hovercraft, but turning can actually be a huge problem for them. In my experience on playing as those characters, they are very questionable. In terms of reducing speed loss while turning with the hovercraft, I found hopping and turning slightly to be the best solution in most cases, while occasionally crashing into certain walls also helps in reducing speed loss. As far as zigzagging (and occasionally doing the accelerator trick) to go faster, that's pretty much nonexistent with Pipsy and Tiptup. Even if it's doable with those characters, it's extremely hard (and in most cases impossible) to go faster with that trick. Novice players will most likely have a very hard with those characters, and will probably switch to Diddy or any of the other characters. I can't really recommend Pipsy and Tiptup for hovercraft because of their handling tending to make them lose speed. For novice players, all I can say is use those characters enough times, and with some dedication, you'll have little to no trouble with the hovercraft. Obviously, Pipsy and Tiptup completely outclass Diddy with the plane, due to their top speed not only matching with Diddy's, but their handling and acceleration being great as well. They essentially have no drawbacks. For novice players, it's pretty much no problem. I definitely recommend Pipsy and Tiptup to those players. ---------- Since you still choose Pipsy and Tiptup every time, how long have you spent trying to master them with the hovercraft, and how good are they to you?
@@William5000000 i go back to complete game start to finish once a year. hovercraft can be annoying but jumping does help them. iv played them since i was young so many years. n64 version.
Yeah, hovercraft is the hardest vehicle to use. No doubt about that. But with practice, it becomes manageable. Lightweight characters (Pipsy and Tiptup) aren't very good because their handling tend to make them lose speed. But hopping and turning slightly (as well as occasionally crashing into certain walls) can help them race better. Just keep practicing, and you'll be used to the hovercraft in no time, even with the light characters.
@@William5000000 yeah i have no real problems with them. i used those two characters purely for aesthetics. i unlocked the drumstick and ticktock and whilst tick tock is clearly the best i still find using him aesthetically weird. the smaller character fit their carts whilst the carts are the same size for all characters, so the big characters look cartoonishly ridiculous. mario kart the karts are bigger for bigger characters but i still pick toad because he looks the best. iv done it for every game i play. rpg, fighting, racing. i wll always choose looks over stats. but you were awesome so good luck with the future.
From 4 bananaes and more, Tiptup and pipsy are better than Diddy then. Since they reach the same top speed, plus having better acceleration and handling.
Yes, but they have to get the bananas before Diddy and any other character. Very crucial with the car, since their top speed is already outclassed by every other character.

Poor Krunch is just a discount Drumstick. Tiptup has been my man ever since I first played this as a kid.
Expa0 But you can play Krunch from the begining of the story.
Expac0 krunch is in fact a kremlin from donkey kong 64 if you dont notice it look at his shirt on the back its the same design ans te ones in dk64 hes one if them be nice
Turnip
But you can play banjo too at the beginning of history

the losing music used to make me too scared of my room or to continue playing
Krunch has the the turning of a brick
A cement block on wheels.
The AI don't care about stats.
Especially Krunch , His Handling is bad but not for the AI Krunch
thats because AI in racing games are generally program to follow paths in racing games which makes them glued to the track no matter how fast they go otherwise they would fly off the track. except crash team racing nitro fueled when you put it on hard, in n gin labs track me and the AI always fall off that sharp turn part of the track at the beginning its just to sharp to turn at full speed unless you know the track well and break before turning but if you go full speed you just fly straight off of it.
I'm team Conker! I always played with him so I'm super comfortable using him:) right now I'm doing adventure 2 with T.T
Nice vid, thanks for the detailed comparisons. Conker was my main pick.
Same
so basically, T.T is as broken as broken can get with his speed and acceleration both being 5.0... no wonder he’s so hard to unlock!
He is basically the fox of dkr with drumstick being falco
Conker's prize is 🍺 🍻
Drumstick is basically what Krunch should have been.
T.T was lethal on the track.
Tiptup is my favourite im main Tiptup XD
i always mained Tiptup when i played this game at my friends house. hours of fun and laughs.
we even put a ban on T.T because we both knew how good of a driver he was!
Thanks for showing the statistics of the characters :3
No problem.
Tip-Tup will always be my favourite 😅
You truly love this game :)
:)
Lol i always thought that drumstick was the fastest character i never was interested in choosing the T.T
Damn, T.T. don’t play.
...I’m still picking Diddy Kong.
Even tho you could probably do the whole thing in about an hour or so XD)
(Sorry for the long comment.
William5000000 Cool! I over exaggerated that hour thing x.x also I’ll be sure to check your videos out ^^ thanks again!
Krunch = Turn left to turn right, turn right to turn left.
Yes,Inverted logic 😂His handling Is bad,but the speed.... 👌🏼
This may not be the best place to post headcanons, but here I go anyway:
- Unlike most Kremlings, Krunch is on good terms with the Kong family.
(This is actually confirmed by the manual, so I don't know if it counts as a headcanon, but whatever.)
- This version of Conker is an adventurous thrillseeker who's always up for a challenge.
You should write fanfiction
Never knew there was this much depth to the game. Conker was my main.
The Tiger is also pretty fast in all of his vehicles, that’s why I like him
It also makes sense from a story perspective - despite the name of the game, Diddy Kong Racing is in fact set on TIMBER’S home island
I feel like their stats should be this:
Banjo's revised stats:
- Weight Group: Heavy
- Acceleration: 2.0 ~ Below Average
- Handling: 2.0 ~ Below Average
- Top Speed: 4.0 ~ Above Average
Krunch's revised stats:
- Weight Group: Heavy
- Acceleration: 1.0 ~ Very Low
- Handling: 1.0 ~ Very Low
- Top Speed: 5.0 ~ Very High
Drumstick's revised stats:
- Weight Group: Heavy
- Acceleration: 1.5 ~ Low
- Handling: 1.5 ~ Low
- Top Speed: 4.5 ~ High
T.T.'s revised stats:
- Weight Group: Middle
- Acceleration: 3.5 ~ Slightly Above Average
- Handling: 2.5 ~ Slightly Below Average
- Top Speed: 3.5 ~ Slightly Above Average
NOTE: With the plane, T.T.'s acceleration and top speed would be the same as Krunch's.
Krunch would be viable if he only had a little more handling... But yeah.
I remember using both Krunch and Timber, when there were a lot of corners I switched to Timber ^^ both are fast
If I were to make my own racing game like this, I would not only show a character’s true stats without lying, but also make everyone either slightly or very unique (no copycats).
7:30 oh shit lol
Engine sounds in the future possibly? Tbh engine sounds stick out to the most in this types of games
Tiptup is the MVP.
The only character i use to complete this game in A1 and A2.
The vehicle: *Hits a boost pad near a ramp*
Boost pad: Yeet the mouse!
Thank you. I am playing this now. Very very helpful to decide whi h carachter is best for me.
I am amazed that I am the one of the few that unlocked T T with a C tier😊
Nice benchmark
@@William5000000 maybe i could use pipsy for some kart tracks that i can't do with banjo and banjo for most tracks
@@DiagonalTanooki That can work.
I wish someone would mod the game somehow to make Krunch more playable.
Drumsticks handling is actually a 3 average and t.t's handling is a 4 (above average)
But yeah unlike many cart racers this one was very imbalanced in terms of lightweights and heavyweights
thanks
No problem.
How is tiptup c tier!
Low top speed. That is the main reason why he is C tier.
@@William5000000 not to boost ego, I’m amazed. But im surprised I unlocked t t with tiptup
Bro Tier: Bumber & Tiptup
hey William, can you help me pls!
i am a very good DKR player and i like to challenge myself with only playing as Krunch my Problem is just one race!
the first Wizpig Encounter drives me crazy, when i drive over the edge, Krunch is going the complete opposite direction, even when i am driving straight!
I think you are either referring to the part where the Zipper is before crossing over the water or the part where the Zipper is before the starting line. Because Krunch's handling is very bad, you have to turn in advance. That is your main problem. Just keep at it, and you will get used to it. Good luck.

I know TT is the fastest on the island but Drumstick is the fastest in the plane.
Well I’m going to give this game a run this one is challenging I’m playing it stoned 🤓
I could never use Krunch. His turning is so terrible.
tt is the best overall but is a secret character you dont get till completed most of game. drumstick can get early and is more speed over handling.
pipsy and tiptup are the best for the most part. they have great handling and acceleration, great control at speed and have better acute turning for sharp bends . they also have a better turning axis whilst jumping in hovercraft which makes them the best hovercraft drivers.
airplane are easy mode and so might be better to go with pure speed.
still i choose pipsy and tiptup every time.
didy kong racing - mario kart 64so can easily choose character based on one game or other.
pipsy and tiptup - toad
badger, conker, tiger - yoshi , mario and luigi
kruch, drumstick - bowser, wario and dk.
tt - no counter part.
----------
Since you still choose Pipsy and Tiptup every time, how long have you spent trying to master them with the hovercraft, and how good are they to you?
TT is like Funky Kong on Mario Kart Wii
@@William5000000 yeah i have no real problems with them. i used those two characters purely for aesthetics. i unlocked the drumstick and ticktock and whilst tick tock is clearly the best i still find using him aesthetically weird. the smaller character fit their carts whilst the carts are the same size for all characters, so the big characters look cartoonishly ridiculous. mario kart the karts are bigger for bigger characters but i still pick toad because he looks the best. iv done it for every game i play. rpg, fighting, racing. i wll always choose looks over stats. but you were awesome so good luck with the future.
Nah Drumstick was on the 90 T.T was lower.than 90 probably 88. Idk how he has 5.0

That is the best way I can respond to your comment about the stats.
Bumper is my s tier then drumstick and no one else i hate t.t. too much power for a stupid watch when a shunk can beat it.
Been playing this ever since it came out. I always Use Bumper Timber Diddy Banjo and Conker. I'm good at handling so timber is more often then diddy. Any situation you can see Bumper and Conker being more useful than Diddy and Bumper?
Banjo I know very well as i focus on collecting bananas and sharp turning. Being playing Bumper in Adventure 2, but might go to Timber for some Silver Coin challenges
As far as I know, Bumper and Conker are equal.
