Me and my mates played this far far more than MK64 when we were younger. Its refreshing to see someone review it and mention how amazing the multiplayer is. Its so much better in multiplayer than MK64.
@@tomhammond3495 hell yeah! That’s what I like to hear! And yeah MK64 is still fun and I willl always turn it on and play for fun and just relax. But DKR just has so much fun stuff to do
Tbh Toby I've always felt Diddy kong was more superior. I remember getting dk racing from my grandma after she found like 10 64 games in an old storage building she bought. One was dk racing. Wasn't expecting what I got from this title. Not only was it an amazing racing game but it also integrated all styles of racing water, dirt l,asphalt etc. Perfectly. Tbh sonic team racing pretty much copied and pasted and also was a fantastic racer also. That all being said dk racing should've made a return a long time ago. It's one of the best games on the 64 and tbh sometimes things like this make me wonder what nintendo is doing over there lol. Anyways enough blabbing on. Thanks Tony for this great trip down nostalgia boulevard and all these awesome oldie reviews.
@@New2RetroReviews yeah Tony if you haven't played sonic team racing you would love it if you like dk racing. An yeah I see that man and I'm definitely gonna be a long time fan. Not a ton of people out here giving free nostalgic uplifting out here. So thanks
Omg I love the thumbnail but I didn't really grow up with Diddy Kong Racing I grew up with the original crash team racing in Mario Kart 64 and other racing titles but I always wanted to give this one a shot
Wizpig is just brutal, it goes to show a lot of people who make TOP 10 LISTS of hardest game bosses never played this because I've yet to see Wizpig make it to that
@@New2RetroReviews Seriously. Wizpig is up there with like, Malenia and Ruby/Emerald Weapon. He's an absolute piece of shit and it feels so good when you finally beat him.
@@New2RetroReviews From what I gather from others, D.S. is an alright remake, but the n64 one outshines the D.S. one by a mile. Though I personally enjoyed my experience. Can't wait for you to look at the D.S. version and compare the two!
Mario Kart 64 didn't really age well imo. I feel like it was only highly regarded because Mario Kart pretty much popularized the kart racing genre. I do still sort of have nostalgia for it because it (along with Crash Team Racing and Mickey's Speedway USA) is what started my love for the genre), but the game just aged like milk. I think Crash Team Racing aged fine and Mickey's Speedway USA aged pretty okay. I'm glad Disney Speedstorm exists now. I love that game. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled also surpassed the original. As a kid, I didn't even know about Diddy Kong Racing. I probably would've enjoyed it if I played it. I always felt like other kart racing games are very underrated. Nintendo fans seem to have a hate boner for them for some reason. They're all just crappy Mario Kart clones to them. I'm convinced they don't play anything else because they carry this same attitude with other platform fighters, party games, farming games, and jrpgs.
I dont think it aged TOO bad, but having gone back and played it recently (I wanted to use the footage in this review but the damn video got corrupted) but I will admit, the characters dont look as sharp, and sometimes the tracks feel....strange to look at if it makes sense. Guess it just didnt animated in motion as good as DKR did. And yeah I think control wise for any early kart racing game, well, CTR I really feel did it the best, even now it controls SMOOOOOOOTH
Just my Opinion but I think Comparing DKR to MK is like comparing The Need for Speed to Gran Turismo. They are both Racing games yes but the gameplay is much different. I play DKR for the Adventure and overall experience but the Racing Mechanics.... Meh it's Ok. Each type of Vehicle has it's quirks and it's fun but the actual Racing just doesn't feel as tight and refined as MK. MK on the other hand just has the Kart Racing down to a science. The game is designed around the Karts. The Courses are designed specifically for the Karts. It just feels somehow more Technical? in the Racing Dept to me.

Just superior . More superior isn’t grammatically correct.
Brings back great memories.

Holy snap flint the time detective. I remember that being on tv back in the day.
I have more losses against first Wizpig than Malenia. #tiptupsupremacy
