On the topic of ppl whispering/not speaking while they sign: it's actually incredibly difficult to sign and speak at the same time because ASL has a different sentence structure than English. It's not a word-for-word translation, so keeping the English sentence straight in your head while signing is actually really hard, so people just usually only whisper or don't talk at all while signing

I didn't expect to like Echo because I didn't really care for her character in Hawkeye. Just finished episode 2 and I'm really liking her and the show so far!
I think her being the normal one in her family is kinda funny everyone is so fun and it's sad that she had to grow up away from them

Same, but I was loving her character in Hawkeye and thought a show would be cool but just not necessary but now I’ve seen it, it’s my favorite MCU show

So Maya’s the only hearing impaired family member, but she hasn’t seen her family for 20 years. Yet they’re all still great at ASL. That’s impressive.
Keep watching, there's more to that story that gets explained later on. That matter aside, surely Maya wasn't the only deaf Native American. Bilingual people don't just forget one of the languages they know. Someone out of practice could sound like a person whose vocabulary was sealed away in a time capsule, but they don't just forget it. To be clear, I'm talking about truly bilingual people, people who are fluent, which is what we see with Maya and her cousin and family friend?
Its obvious her family have learned ASL since she was young. Even w/ her being gone for 20yrs, they will have that instilled in them

Honestly! Its helping me savour the series due it only being 5 episodes. I can take a break between each episode to see everyones opinion and digest as many hidden details as possible.
I already and always loved and liked Alaqua Cox's MCU's live-action Maya Lopez aka ECHO in the MCU's Marvel Studios Hawkeye Television series Season 1.
From Phase Four and Five of The Multiverse Saga of the MCU aka the Marvel Cinematic Universe made of movies and tv shows adapted from Marvel Comics
I still have to review everything I saw, but the best thing about the show is the cast, everyone acts so well that they feel like real characters with different personalities. Personally this helps me connect more with echo🤔

Damn Jaby, shots fire so early in the reaction. Achara's going to get you for that one. I saw that stare, it was like "You're mine after the reaction". 🤣
I started to wonder if Maya was a blood descendant of the first Choctaw leader Chafa and each of the people named after episodes are as well. The last episode is called Maya after all. I'm only on the episode 2 and the scene at the beginning with a woman I assume to be Lowak in the game being played showed the same hands effect that Chafa had. I thought I'd have to wait until episode 5 called Maya to find out, but they answered it here.
That "buy the damn thing" chant that Graham Green in the pawn shop had me rolling. He always makes me laugh at the things he says even when it's in a serious tone. He's delivery is awesome.
Her grandpa has some nice mechanical skills. If I had skills like that I'd be constantly building cool stuff from things that were broken and selling them for a better price than the big companies that charge people way too much. If people supplied the materials I would build it for just a reasonable amount per hour spent working on it. I'm not the greedy type and I'd have fun just seeing if I can do it.
That song "All my Life" by KC and Jojo in the bowling ally scene , as well as, "I Knew I Loved You" by Savage Garden are two of my favorite songs that I'd want to sing to the woman that I want to settle down with. I need to finish my love song playlist for that special lady when I meet her.
I didn't notice any of the issues that the two of you notice in the episode. I wonder if it's because I don't know about all of the production stuff like you two my mind doesn't get distracted by it. I can just focus on and enjoy the story, the action and the emotional connection of what I'm watching. However, I still say that Marvel needs to stop with the 6 or less episode shows and start doing an 8 to 13 minimum to give shows time to breathe and build characters up better. It's not like Disney doesn't have the money to bankroll more episodes and they will get better reviews of the shows if they use writers and directors that have product great results like with the Loki series.

To Jaby’s Q about if this is authentic to First Nations. I grew up on a Reservation & the humour is spot on. I find it is quite accurate to what I’ve experienced. I also highly suggest immersing yourself in the culture sometime. True salt of the earth ppl.

I feel the same. I felt like there was something off. I watched all 5 episodes. No spoilers, but if I would to grade it, I would give it a C. There was enough entertainment for it to pass, but it was missing something, especially the fight scene in the final episode.
The best way I can describe it is, it started off feeling like the Marvel Netflix shows and by the end it felt more like a Marvel Disney show

Many deaf people learn to read lips, so people who can speak, and use ASL will also verbalize the words, but keep it quiet as their target can't actually hear it.
I like episode 1 2 but they great but something feel like a missing like a what next kind of curiosity missing

It's interesting to me, I don't notice or care about the nitpicky stuff you refer to.
It is entirely entertaining
jaby has valid questions, but didn't even cross my mind there were any sort of issues until he brought it up. the problem with being from the entertainment industry as jaby is, you know how the sausage is made. unlike a normie audience, instead of just appreciating the show for what it is, you instead look at it with the critical eye of someone who's been behind the scenes. kinda takes the fun out of it.

The way the stick-ball game is characterized here makes me wonder if the modern sports culture in America (and by extension much of the rest of the world) might have evolved more from Native American influences that European ones. It's hard to picture British people in Shakespeare's day getting riled up about a football match the way they do today. I thought it started with rivalries between universities, but maybe there's more to it than that...

Definitely agree that the first two episodes weren't great. I enjoyed the other three for the most part.

I can be watching my favorite movies and shows and still notice wonky cg, weak performances, poorly fitted costumes, background actors doing way too much, a Starbucks cup....For me, that has nothing to do with my investment in the story.

She can also predict and replicate other fighter's movements

Hard of hearing person here: Even if just whispering the words, giving an opportunity to reinforce the sign language with lip reading can make a huge difference in comprehension. That's why they're doing that. It can also help the person signing to keep track -- at least that's been my (admittedly limited) experience.

In the comics her super power was being able to mimic some one's fighting style immediately, the powers that be decided that power was " lame". I prefer the comics better, disney thinks they are better than the person who created the character.

It's not lame, but it isn't visually interesting or easily communicated to a viewing audience. Most viewers can't tell the difference between judo/taekwondo/karate...etc mid-fight scene, so it would be a power of verbal exposition rather than visual presentation. I get why they made a change.

What a complete waste of time. I saw all 5 episodes and it was like watching a long, boring podcast mixed with National Geographic. The final battle is one of the most hilariously embarrassing things I've ever seen. Also, woke? You better believe it, as if that had to be said. More disposable content that everyone will completely forget about it in no time.

Also, you're right, I don't have anything better or productive to do with my life because I'm disabled, in constant pain and can barely move. This is all I've got, I don't have a fucking life. I sit around every damn day staring at a screen hoping for something good enough to distract my mind for awhile so I can take a break from wanting to die. Lol, am I right?
