It's also pretty clear why most people rate Die Hard 3 better: the first sequel simply tried to copy the successful formula of the first film in large parts, the main variation being a different location. Luckily, the third part was again directed by John McTiernan - on the one hand he probably didn't want to copy himself, but he also understood that the series needed an expansion or renewal in order not to become worn out, like so many other successful film series.
@@schroedingers_kotze also Samuel L Jackson and the script. It's literally just a good movie, but keep over analyzing it. You might be on to something.
Jeremy Irons is the actor who plays Simon. has an iconic and very recognizable voice, as others have mentioned he voiced scar in the lion king. also in kingdom of heaven .
This one ties for the first film as my favorite. I love the action, the humor, the buddy relationship with Zeus and John. All of the characters are great. It’s one of those movies that I don’t get tired of rewatching.
To be fair, McClane survived some crazy scenarios in the 2nd movie. He survived an exploding plane by using an ejection seat. An ejection seat on a transport plane... (She should have realized he was dead.)
Here's one for you the actor who played the cop who played the lotto with his badge number was in part one he played the cop who was assisting Sergeant al Powell
When McClane gets out of the cab he says he was "workin' on a nice fat suspension, smokin' cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaraoo". This seems to be a Pulp Fiction reference, specifically where Butch is listening to the radio in the car when Marsellus walks in front of him. The same line from the Statler Brothers' "Flowers on the Wall" is playing, and he sings along.
That’s true! Also, Zeus at one point says in the movie, “how’s that for concentration?” Another potential Pulp Fiction reference but this time, it’s Sam Jackson
I love Jerry the truck drivers playful trivia banter actually having a payoff with knowing who the 21st President was and even having a factoid about him as well. a REASON for a character being there and being a certain way. Seems simple but Great Script writing.
She says multiple times "It's the German guy from the first one" When Hans Gruber very memorably fell from the (almost) top floor of a skyscraper and couldn't of been more dead. She then finds out it's his brother (very distinctly not Hans) and says "I was right".....
Both of you are great together but I gotta say, I just love Kristen's great smile and laugh- just beautiful. This has become my favorite of the Die Hard movies I've seen. Jackson and Willis had great chemistry together on screen. It's a shame they never did more movies together. Btw, the elephant riddle is, he has a trunk- always ready to travel. Nord Des Lignes (North of the Border) is a large truck stop just over the Canadian border. When McCane saw that that was where Simon bought the aspirin, he thought he might be going back there. That scene was actually filmed at the TA Travel Center in Jessup, Maryland.
An important note about the Die Hard films is that each one puts John into ever larger stakes. First one was contained in the building. Second was the airport and surrounding area. This one was all of the Five Burroughs. Without spoilers the fourth and fifth continue the trend.
The director John McTiernan was originally going to cast Lawrence Fishburne to play Zeus. However, after McTiernan saw Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction he changed his mind!
Obviously, his wife also did not call him back, and she was the one who hung up according to John. She is just as much to blame, if not more so, for being the one who hung up on him.
The original script was titled SIMON SAYS, where it was going to star the late Brandon Lee as a New York cop who teams up with a jewelry shopkeeper to stop a mad bomber from blowing up several landmarks. However, the film was put on hold following the tragic death of Lee. Another script was then titled DIE HARD IN NEW YORK, with John McClane teams up pawn shop owner, who despises cops after his brother was killed following a robbery, but learns to set aside his own problems to help McClane. An alternative ending was filmed but cut from the movie as it involves McClane tracking down Simon, after he was fired from the police force when he failed to stop him from stealing all the gold. McClane plays his own version of Simom Says, called MCCLANE SAYS, with a Chinese Rocket Launcher as he had the sights removed from the weapon. When Simon gets the answer wrong, he fires the rocket into his chest, accidentally killing himself. McClane walks away satisfied. Test audiences hated the ending after seeing McClane turn from hero to cold blooded killer.
Idon't remember any Simon Says Rodman flick but in Demolition man Wesley Snipes sporting a Rodmanesque haircut as the villain Simon Phoenix keeps saying Simon says
Jeremy Irons is the voice of Scar from LK right or am I buggin?? 😅 when he said " hook.. lineeee.. andd SINKER! " it was like a mirrored cadence to the " longgg liveeee THE KING !!! 😓..

I just realized there is a reference to Pulp Fiction in this movie: Bruce Willis talks about "smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo", which is literally from the lyrics of a song from Pulp Fiction soundtrack. I even remember the scene where this song plays. It is when Butch (Bruce Willis) is on that small car, stops at the traffic lights, sees Marsellus Wallace (who wants him dead), and then proceeds to run him over.
@0:50 “Get into the trilogy” is a strange thing to say in the introduction to the third movie in a pentalogy. It’s an expression that is right at home in the introduction to the first movie in a trilogy.
Stumbled across your channel with the Diehard reactions and you 2 are funny! 😂 watched your field of dreams and lethal weapons as well 😂 keep up the great work ladies.
7:10 the smoking cigarettes and watching captain kangaroo line is in reference to a song called Flowers on the Wall by The Statler Brothers. In Pulp Fiction (1994), Bruce Willis's character Butch is singing along to it on the radio and recites that same line.
Good job on this one. This is possibly the best of the sequels however I think the next one, "Live Free or Die Hard" is even better. The chemistry between Bruce Willis and Justin Long in it is almost as good as Samuel L. Jackson was in this one. Lots of crazy action and you get to meet Johns grown daughter. It's more a 4th of July theme.
I love how Simon does want revenge against McClaine out of love for his brother (who he hated) but out of pride that a family member was killed by what he saw as a “dumb Irish flatfoot”.🤣🤣
the fact she swore it was Hans Gruber and then kept saying she was right, immediately after they said it was his brother is the epitome of the Kristen reaction experience

Do you want to know the joke behind the elephant travel? It really is as simple as it can get: Elephants are always ready to travel, because they have *trunks*! Get it? Trunks. The long "nose" that separates them from pigs like swine and me.
My favorite Die Hard sequel and a good companion and tie in to the first Die Hard. A lot of that has to do with the return of director John McTiernan , the addition of Sam Jackson and the Bruce Wills’ insistence that they not just make a retread of the original and do something new. Die Hard 2 is entertaining, but it’s not a very ambitious sequel and felt like they were trying to remake the original without doing anything new.

I really think you two should watch "The Long Kiss Goodnight" (1996), if you don't know it already. Geena Davis in the leading role and Sam Jackson as a very cool support. One of my favorite action movies. Concerning Die Hard, this one is at least on par with the first one for me. I see and share most of Kristens critic on Vengeance, but don't rate them so high, that it really tears down the movie much. I totally agree with your guys' observations about things missing from the movie or what could have been changed. But in hindsight (it's been a while since I've seen it), that roughness sort of adds to the tone of the movie--almost like the two main characters have to not only navigate New York City, but also the movie itself. Sorta like when Deadpool breaks the fourth wall to acknowledge how the movie is making life difficult for him. Not sure if that makes sense lol
No way is part 2 better than part 3 based on the fact that 2 is like 1 where John just happens to be there where Like steph said the bad guy went after him. Also the actress who didn't speak Is a singer from California and couldn't speak with a accent so they made her character a mute
I'm not sure if anybody's told you this guys. But another fun fact is, there was an alternate ending where Simon did get away and John tracked him down. And they played simon says with a bazooka

A lot of people don't like the next film in the series. I feel like the film after that is SO BAD, it puts the other film into perspective and makes it much better. I really like the next film. It's color graded weirdly, since the director also made Underworld so there are times it looks and feels more like a Horror film, but aside from that it's a really fun time.
4 would have been better if it was a stand-alone movie and not a Die Hard. It was still good for what it was, though. You just have to ignore physics and realize that John will be able to survive a lot of things that would kill a normal person. Aka, you have to think of it like any superhero movie.
One of the goons was played by Tony Halme, a Finnish born actor, pro-wrestler, boxer and even MP. In WWE/WWF he wrestled with the name "Ludwig Borga" whose gimmick was his hatred for America (he was a "heel", aka one of the bad guys), he was also a professional heavy weight boxer, got elected to the Finnish parliament as a MP, even had a small career as a singer (as a joke), etc. He was quite the controversial figure. Some people loved him. Some hated him to no end. But the most important thing was, in the world of nobodies, he was truly a somebody.
My personal favorite order is: 4: Live Free or Die Hard (I was a big fan of the cast and McClaine’s challenge). 3: Die Hard with a Vengeance (no argument on whether it’s better) 1: Die Hard (classic) 2: Die Harder (I kinda forget about this one) 5: A Good Day To Die Hard (I may have only seen it once).
I've never once heard anyone say they like Die Hard 2 better than this one

In WWE/WWF he wrestled with the name "Ludwig Borga" whose gimmick was his hatred for America (he was a "heel", aka one of the bad guys), he was also a professional heavy weight boxer, got elected to the Finnish parliament as a MP, even had a small career as a singer (as a joke), etc. He was quite the controversial figure. Some people loved him. Some hated him to no end. But the most important thing was, in the world of nobodies, he was truly a somebody.
My personal favorite order is:
4: Live Free or Die Hard (I was a big fan of the cast and McClaine’s challenge).
3: Die Hard with a Vengeance (no argument on whether it’s better)
1: Die Hard (classic)
2: Die Harder (I kinda forget about this one)
5: A Good Day To Die Hard (I may have only seen it once).
“ cop out “ with Bruce Willis is good tooo
I might be in the minority but Die Hard Vengeance is my favorite of the three followed by the OG ... have watched the part 3 countless times 😂
Great job once again ladies, hope your finger gets better. 👍🙏🌹🌹
Happy Lil Dingdong(tm) ever the optimist:
Steph: It could have been worse, good teamwork
Kristen: Doesn't meant nobody else got injured...
😆
What up, Braw~ Nice opening face there, Happy Lil Dingdong(tm)!
This is my favourite Die Hard film. Then the original and then pt2.
Most people hated Die Hard 2 while most liked 3 better then 2 but 1 is the best
