Multiple indigenous tribes have their own creation myths about people come from under mounds of earth, sculpted out of clay and transformed into humans. That's what the opening of ep 1 was showing, but with a magical/mystical, possibly other worldly, twist. They were made in the underground cave, and when they were exposed to the sun their clay dried and flaked away exposing their new human bodies
Maya's really out here getting exp points to level up and unlock all the ancestors to get that Echo title as the achievement reward.

I love Biscuits. He quickly became one of my favorite characters of this show.
Everyone in it was amazing and a few people worked on the Twilight movies.
I love that the Choctaw nation was heavily involved. The actor that plays Biscuits by the way is Cody Lightning and he's Cree (Canada).
I just wish we'd gotten more than 5 episodes, because I enjoyed it so much.
I'd love to see more of Echo and Daredevil working together.
So many of the actors are Canadian! Tattoo Cardinal and Graham Greene too! I’ve grown up watching them on Canadian TV! A few of the other indigenous actors are from Reservation Dogs, too!

Between the Twilight movies, Rutherford Falls, and Reservation Dogs, I'm familiar with nearly this entire cast and I love it!
The rail car she accesses is D9x. Maya made her debut in issue 9 of the Daredevil MarvelKnights run.
And yeah, they've completely changed Maya's powers. taking a new interpretation of the echo name whilst distancing her from Taskmaster. Who had only just been introduced when maya debuted in hawkeye.
A lot of the actors from this series are from Reservation Dogs. A very funny and heartfelt comedy series by Taika Waititi.
9:18 Henry Lopez is Maya's uncle! He got her father the assignment in New York! Maya's grandmother said, "Those Lopez boys are trouble," so she blames Henry too, just not as much.
Loving this series so far
I really enjoyed this series. Overall I’d give it a 9/10. The music is amazing, I like all the characters, and there is some good fight scenes. It’s as well cool seeing them explore the Choctaw culture and allow other people to learn about it.
5/10 for me
In comics, her abilities were similar to Taskmaster yes. She could adapt by observing other people’s skills and was also a fast learner. Also she was great at reading lips and spoke all the time. But she also used sign language when necessary.
As far as powers, at one point in a recent Avengers comic run she gains the Phoenix Force and fought Namor and other heroes if I’m not mistaken.
The powers in this show is a brand new take on Echo but will be explained later.

My favorite thing about echo is the massive respect given to the Choctaw Nation, which helped make this entire series.

Great episode, enjoying your reaction especially the Biscuit driving past Grandma scene. I had the same reaction, and he's become of my favorite characters. Gotta love Biscuits, we all need a cousin like him!😊

I’m going to reserve my comments until you watch the last episode because I don’t want to give anything away but you’re going along the right path and you’re feeling of the show is quite a few surprises on the way, but I will give my comments to you from my standpoint at the end, becausethe whole series was great and you’re gonna have fun with it
James Bond was also what i was thinking with that opening ...and maybe True Detectives show came to mind🙂
Yeah in the comics her ability is similar to Taskmaster so I think since we've already seen Taskmaster in the Black Widow movie that's why they changed her ability to this ancestral ability and yup that first scene in the last episode is based on the real legends of this tribe
I did not expect to like this series - while I understand and appreciate its place, I've never been attracted to the "street-level" parts of the MU or MCU. Having watched it in its entirety now (no spoilers), I very much enjoyed it. The overall pacing is odd (and I think a lot of that is due to the series being cut down from its originally-planned length) but these are wonderful characters that I enjoy watching. I was immensely surprised to see they've changed Maya's background from Cheyenne in the comics to Choctaw here. While I can only claim 1/8 Choctaw heritage myself, it blew my mind that we finally have a Choctaw character in any form of the Marvel Universe. Of the admittedly small grouping of First Nations heroes in Marvel, a number of them are Cheyenne (notably Forge, Moonstar, Red Wolf(s) and the comic Echo), Navajo (American Eagle, Black Crow), Apache (the Proudstar brothers), and now this and the Mohawk with Kahhori over in What If have been very nice additions.
It's awesome how many people from res dogs have popped up in the first two episodes
I haven't seen Graham Greene since that show Defiance ended.
I really like what they're doing with Maya's powers,it's a bit more interesting than in the comics where she's kinda like Taskmaster. Buythedamnthing moment was so funny :)

We saw kingpin active in 2021 and the snap lasted 2018-mid 2023 and Matt wouldn't let Fisk go on doing his thing and if he was gone Danny wouldn't either where as Luke has gone bad at the end of Luke Cage S2 and Jessica wouldn't give a shit
Hawkeye flashbacks clearly shows she was around while he was Ronin. After everyone was blipped away, before they blip back again.
