Thanks for putting all your hard work into testing these, we all really appreciate it. Gonna finish watching the full video later tonight.
Saw a video recently where someone dipped half of a clear 1/35 wine bottle in the red and after it dried dipped to whole bottle in the bottle green. Looked like a partially empty red wine bottle.
I want to thank you for doing this. Sometimes you have no idea just by looking at the bottle how these are going to turn out once you spray them or with different bases. I'm always recommending your channel during my streams.
Another great testing video. I've been hunting for a "blue" color for my R2D2 build and I am convinced that Candy Indigo on the silver base nails it. Alclad is such an awesome product. Gorgeous colors and spray so easily. Thanks again Barbatos Rex.
Hello is your R2D2 project a model kit or a scratch built project ???? If it's a kit which 1 is it if you don't mind me asking ???? Thank you for your time.
My guess is the candy bottle green would be for a similarity to a cola bottle.
Thank you
Happy New Year everyone, Thank you very much for doing this alclad review because I have used the typical chrome and metal colors which I love but haven't used the candy colors and have been hesitant about using them until I seen some real life reviews so THANK YOU. Love the channel and please keep em coming.
A while a go. I bought the Alclad silver base expecting the chrome result because that was what was recommended. I'm glad I saw this before laying it down, but wish I saw it before buying it.
This video is a lifesaver...my god thank you for all the hardwork. This is incredibly useful!
Great candies and as always top notch video, happy new year and I know you are going to have more great content.
Can you do a video of some alclad candy's over the alclad Black chrome please 🙏
Nice paints. Love the indigo the best! Happy New Year!
not to sound like a snob but he goes by trowa barton not heero 2 different characters
Happy New Year B. Rex. Hope you and your family had a great Christmas. Going through the line you painted ... the orange turned (at least on camera) to be an almost "burnt orange" which was really a great color. I'm partial to blue colors, and the violet was really gorgeous. After seeing all the results, all seems to look the best over the AlClad Chrome, except the reds. Great vid. Hopefully the new year brings you and your family the best.
I do agree the gold really makes the color pop. Maybe try them over some other golds for us? Happy New Year!
Do you dry the candy’s in the dehydrator?
Hi teacher, After the chrome and candy color, for heavy handling,,,,,,can be used an automotive Polyurethane clear to protect from scratches and UV rays?
Yes, I recommend a 2K Gloss Clear on top of these.. My new 2K Gloss Clear has already sold out 😀
Happy New Year Rex!
Excellent vid, thanks for sharing!
In another video I watched of yours you said you could buff out the fullness of alcalad. Would you do a video on that process? I’m not sure if I should hand buff or like a low powered rpm finger nail polisher.
I hand buff Alclad using a micro fiber cloth. Check out my latest chrome video, I buff it using that micro cloth towel
cool vid
Hello! Does anyone know if i can use Alclad Aqua Gloss Clear over Alclad Candy Ruby Red Enamel. My plan is Primer > Alclad Black Gloss Base -> Alclad Chrome > Candy Ruby Red Enamel > then top coat it with Aqua Gloss Clear. Will this work? I know there's a Lacquer Red clear but unfortunately no on sells them here. Please help!
Absolutely you can
@@barbatosrex9473 Thank you very much! You're a lifesaver!
Now I know which candy paint I'll be using for my king Tut mask makeover!
👍👍👍
🙏🙏🙏
Nice! That red candy over gold is candy apple red and then you just use candy black to do some shading. I think they have one of the best line ups of candy colors and if you want to go acrylic Createx also has a good selection.
I have the full Createx Candy line up here waiting for a full review
@@barbatosrex9473 That's awesome!
Those colors are amazing...... Alclad baby. Wishing you the best for 2022...
I really do appreciate the time and the knowledge that you put into your Videos..
Hey! I really appreciate this! Thank you so much!
You're welcome buddy 👍
Happy new year from Liverpool.. all the best for 2022! Great video , thankyou
Great video! The colors look amazing
Great VDO Rex. Indigo, Electric Blue & Golden Yellow are my favorite colors.
Great video!
Love all the colours and shades possible with this line of candies. Thanks for all the hard work you do to put these videos together for us.
Thanks buddy, it does take a bit to out these together. So any acknowledgement to them is greatly appreciated 👍
I love the way the Alclad colors look, but I can't seem to lay down a nice, consistant glossy coat. I want to spray a candy blue on a trans am model, so I'm testing on a 1/48 f-15 wing. When I try to get a wet coat going, the paint seems to "stand up" on itself, and I get a very rough finish. What am I doing wrong?
Hey barbatos Rex great video, and I don’t know if you remember me but thank you for suggesting to get the same airbrush that you are using in the vid, I got mine and it’s great keep up the vids coming they are so helpful happy new year bud
Great airbrush, you'll be happy with it. Happy new year to you and your family
@@barbatosrex9473 it just goes through paint so fast, is there anyway to reduce the amount of paint it goes through?
@@reylen3883 lower air pressure and don't pull as far back
@@barbatosrex9473 I will try it, thank you much for the help
Thank you for going through the full range. Always amazed at how people can chose good complimentary colors for two tone paint jobs on the full size cars. When you showed the difference between two coats and 4/5 coats I can see the potential for achieving nice two tone effects on models.
Happy New Year to you and yours.
I am looking to build a 55 Chevy Bel Air and was thinking about an Alclad red candy with either Mr. Color rough silver or rough gold with Mr. Color champagne. Have you used the rough colors as a base?
It all depends on the piece/project being painted. But in general I prefer the Silvery Chrome colors apposed to the darker Browny black Chrome color. A color like Chrome Car Wheels I like the best.
Sr. I really need you help again. I’m spraying the candy over the alclad chrome and it’s not working. It lift up the paint or dulls all the result. The only way it kind of works is if I spray hard like 25psi with a paasche needle 3 closed off almost, at a very close distance.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Happy New Year - looking forward to 2022...keep up the great work!
Indigo would look amazing on a Qubeley, thank you for these demo vids as always!
What is the best alternative in acrylics for these candy? GSW? AK? Vallejo?...
Talk about lucky, Today I bought the Emerald Green and Candy Orange, and it's the first two you tested hahaha.
I tried spraying it over Greenstuffworld chrome and it killed the chrome finish and just made it look like metal flake. Did you spray it on directly or was the GSW chrome sealed before this was sprayed on?
I'm on here looking to do some creative paint designs on a couple electric guitar tops I'm re doing. I like the looks of these paints and have a couple airbrushed and hvlp setups including a turbine hvlp for cerakote projects that all work great but do you know if any of these paints you use would be compatible with whatever coatings they use on guitars? The one in question has a matte finish over stained wood, wish I knew what the matte finish is but I can't find that info. I don't want to have to sand it down to bare wood if I can get away with it do to the complex shapes and angles it would be a nightmare, I know I could do some nice stencil work on it if I could use these paints,I make my own vinyl stencils. Any advice? I'm used to generally painting/coating bare sandblasted metals and polymers so wood and guitar coatings are new for me I just don't want to lay down the paint then find out it's going to fisheye or not bond well or worse. Thank you
Since what's being done is not detailwork, i dont see why you would use a 0.2. The 0.5 is perfect.
Happy 2nd of January already , from here in Australia
Thank you for all your videos. Like to watch all of them. Have you tested 2k clear over the Alclad. I was curious if that would work??
Happy New Year!
You gotta love Alclad I did order green stuff chrome for air brush and pass on revel chrome on e bay too much and shipping maybe Alclad is a winner especially all there colors
Awesome video!
Can someone please explain to me what a gumpler piece is? Lol. He talks about and sprays these little so called gumpler pieces in so many videos. I just have to know now what the heck it is
When I tried their candy red it kept peeling off of the silver base. Do you know why ?
Happy new year quick question where did you get that small pink gunpla?
That's a Gundam Converge mini kit. I got it at Hobby Lobby but most Gunpla places should have them
@@barbatosrex9473 thank you
Super awesome. Thanks for putting in the work. Saves us lots of time
I've been looking through all the reviews for the paint strainers you used and I can't find what review it was can you help please 🙏
Happy new year, Mr. Rex! As always, thanks for the thorough testing and showcase, it's a huge help to see what's out there and what's possible.
Wanted to get your opinion on a different use case, painting clear colors over clear plastics. Obviously, priming/sanding isn't an option here, is there anything I can do to help make sure the paint job is sturdy?
Do you want to paint a candy color over a clear piece?
@@barbatosrex9473 Yeah
Wow that’s a lot of different colors from 11. Love you showing several backgrounds for each 🙌 I don’t make models or miniature pieces.. I do make sippee cups & sports bottles up to 40oz. I’m wondering if a layer or two of resin over these candys would be an issue.. I want the candy to show through. Generally the resin work as a magnifying glass.. but I don’t want to run buy a whole set to find out it’s not gonna work out. These are so cool.. I want them all! That indigo 🤩, violet 🙌, and the orange & reds 👏👏. ~~I think I’m about to be in the spoon business 😂👌💯
Thanks B. Rex just found you a few days ago and I’m in love! All these tests are epic and your straight up no nonsense approach is delightful.
Happy New Year in 2022.. I just know this year is going to be amazing for everyone 💯💯💯
Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching 👍 happy new year
The red is defiantly not a candy Apple Red Color. You see more Gold than you see RED
I take it back maybe it is supposed to be a gold RED or Orange RED color.
I wonder what the candy would like over alclad holomatic chrome?
All I have to say is wow those colours look great and a happy new year to you too
Have you tried Zero Paints yet? They seem to have paints for cars & race teams (team color sets).
Can you get this nice candy looking effect be shown on metal and other materials ?
I'm in the middle of using Alclad II's Hot Metal Violet. Is there any topcoat over the Hot Metal Violet finish recommended for a protected, clear gloss finish? What is the best/ideal way to protect the finish paint and prepare it for decals?
I only used Alclad II's 'Bright Silver Candy Base' directly on smooth sanded and polished plastic. Then I finished with the 'Hot Metal Violet'
I have the Alclad II's 'Klear Kote' as well as their 'Aqua Gloss Clear' - which of these would be more ideal for a clear finish that won't dull the shine I already have with the Hot Metal Violet over the Bright Silver Candy Base. I'm open to other options that work for topcoat outside of Alclad. I also have Mr. Premium Topcoat - Clear Gloss. How might any of these hold up to the task?
You can use any clear gloss for a top coat over the Alclad Hot Metal. Go with what's easy for you to get or a brand you like
I wonder if the product would turn out different if you actually waited the amount of time it says to wait on the bottle.
Maybe it means like glass bottle green like a beer bottle or something bc theyre glossy and dark?
Amazing results bud. I use the hot metal colors for my AN fittings, but these candy colors look great. Sad to see #9 gold doesn’t work. That’s my favorite gold out of all golds in lineup. My wife laughed when you pulled out Dspaie and I told her I needed to pick up their metallic line.😂 thanks for the great reviews. My 4 E’s vortex mixer is great!
That paint mixer is awesome. Great purchase. I will also be reviewing the Dspiae metal colors soon too
@@barbatosrex9473 that’ll be awesome. I want to pick them up any way. Can never have enough metal paint options. Plus the price is excellent.
You do all the work so we can save time and money. You are extremely smart but also have a pleasant voice to listen to. I try to never miss a video. Your channel is the best. 🎉
Wow, such kind words. Thank you for that. It's much appreciated. Where are you located? Here in tge US?
Nice video , material is hard to find in Belgium or Europe
I tend to really like the results with recommended silver base. Two questions. First, can you 2k over the finished results without losing the effects (primarily on the silver based spoons)? And second, is there any such thing as a black candy? I'm looking for a good paint that will give me a black aluminum look. As always, thank you. 🙏
2K is fine over candy. There's a few options for dark candy looks. Go with a darker base such as Gunmetal. Or you can spray clear black or clear smoke over the already sprayed candy
I'm having better results with the MIG version of Alclads. The Chrome for plastic from MIG is *way* shinnier that Alclad Chrome and that reflects on the final candy effect. Same with Alclad Black Chrome vs Airframe Aluminium. I tested just like you, different variants, coats and so on and overall MIG gave me better results. I don't know why honestly since they should be mostly the same.
Anyways, are you planning on a comparison video between those two? (Alclad vs MIG Alclad) they're similar but as i said MIG performed better in my testings and there's little to none info on this topic.
Yes, I'm trying to get a full set for testing
Awesome colors and review !!! Happy New Year !
Happy New Year buddy
Hi Barbatos! I paint mainly miniatures and figures, and mostly with acrylics. I have an airbrush but mostly paint with brush , wanted to ask you, as i saw your review of Armored Komodo metallic pigments. What do you think? Which one is superior? I dont have any of these products available in my country, so probably will need to import them, thats why is important for me to know which one is the best.I love the alclad finish shown in your video, but komodo is done with brush. I want striking colours like candy red, blue, or similar, and both lines have what i want. My only fear with Komodo is that , used in miniatures, show some big chuncks of pigments or mica flakes, or something that makes it look as an unnatural paint for such small figures. What do you think, which one will be better for me? Thanks again, love all your videos, and know more about this products thanks to you :)
I would go with the Armored Komodo. There's zero large flakes. It just looks like plating when it's applied. Get a set of silicone brushes for them. That'll be perfect for miniatures. This is a good set

This has been very informative! Thank you!
You're welcome 👍
Off topic. I've searched but haven't found any videos describing the different uses for the different sized needles or how to determine what size needle you may have.
I purchased a Harbour Freight airbrush but it didn't say what size needle it was running...
Your videos are awesome and I appreciate your help.
👍🤜
Hello. I could really use your help. I am trying to repaint a Hot Toys Iron Man Mark L/50 And thought maybe you could point me in the right direction what colors or brands I'd need to achieve this color
I'll need more time to check this for you. I'll get back later today
I know this is a random comment... But I've often thought "why doesn't anybody do a video where you show a piece go through the whole process?" Like from the runner to bring placed on the Gundam. The whole thing. If that even makes any sense! 😂 It would be a long one to record but i felt you'd probably be the only one willing to go to that length to show the processes you go through to complete a build.
Mr Barbatos did you have any luck in finding Revell's aqua color primer? Its white and its alcohol based and I think it thinns with Revell Aqua color thinner or maybe Mr hobby aqueous thinner or x20a acrylic thinner. I tried it with Tamiya lacquer thinner and it did work for a while until it turned into goop. My airbrush had to be taken down and cleaned a lot with hardware store lacquer thinner.
I have that primer but haven't tried it yet. Thanks for the heads up
Hey, just wanted to say thanks for those awesome videos on the Alclad paints. Wished I’d seen that before WASTING my money on the AK paints!!
Alclad rules
Dang man, you went all out! I haven't yet decided to mess with candy stuff yet. I want to work on making my Gunpla old and worn looking. :)
I wanted to make a few suggestions while I was thinking about it. Can you make a video on sharpening nippers and other crafting blades? It's not something a lot of folks have touched on as far as I can tell and nippers can be expensive. Another thing is that Madworks has released some newer airbrushes (0.2mm, and the 0.5mm Airbrush). Their first one (the 0.3) seemed to be a solid airbrush and was curious about these others.
Anyway, keep up the great work! =)
Hello dude !! Another great color comparison video to start the year, I could ask you the favor if you can make a video of these "candy colors" especially the yellow and green tones, to "recreate" the shades of the transparent pieces that airplanes have as the F-16 or A6B Prowler (yellow-gold tones) and the F-117 (green-violet tone) and if you can compare them with other brands such as Mr. Hobby or Tamiya's Clear colors in order to know which one of all these it is more similar to the real plane, thank you very much and happy new year!
Great way to start off rhe new year!!! Thanks a ton BR..By the way, where'd ya gwt that great lQQkin airbrush holder?? I need 5 of em LOL...Thanks again!
That thing is awesome, only problem is it cost $15!! I too wanted about 6 of them
@@barbatosrex9473 Who makes them if you remember? My first 5 months of 2022 will all be birthdays, hahaha
I used their Ruby Red on my Amazing Exia convert and it's so gorgeous. Such a gorgeous color. Granted I can't make my shit half as shiny and smooth as yours
Nice video Love the Alclads. Over a Gold they become Candy Apple, Iron man is Candy Apple Red one of the most popular old school car colors especially on Vettes. Don't have the full line but have most of them and these paints not just the Candy colors are all top notch and easy to apply.
Wow, those colors are amazing.
I love youre 1 hour videos. Maybe the Alclads are a hybrid between laqcuer and enamel. I know there also something called Enamel lacquer. Have a happy new year Barbatos!
Great video as always. Started stocking up on Alclads after this one. But what I really wanna know is more about your spray booth setup. Did you buy it or make it yourself? What's the fan's CFM?
Another great review....this missing a couple of colors, thanks for pointing out Mega Hobby has them
you should try out some of the dram vials with glass droppers from discountvials. I use them to mix paint and store some solvent for easier and cleaner workflow. I got a pack of 40 and its awesome. Love your channel. Learned alot!
These testing videos are so informative and entertaining to watch, please, keep making more.
Many more to come 👍
Your films are great. Is there anywhere image comparison of all spoons, you ever paint? Thats will be great help for your viewers
True candy apple gold is over gold
Fantastic video, man...I've bought a few of the Alclads after seeing some of your past videos and hearing you talk about them...love Alclads stuff. Can't wait to see the next one! Also, just got your paints as a Christmas present from my wife they look great!!
Did you put the bass color on top of a primer
Very good review. How do you feel the colors looked using the recommended base? Happy new year to all!!
Brilliant video as always, bottle green is a description you would hear in the UK but maybe not in USA
Great video. Thank you a lot. How tough is the paint it self. Will it scratch or get pulled off with tape?
That TS42 is a great base for most of them
Hey Rex, really appreciate your new videos. Try combining the clear yellow and clear red at around 3:1 to 4:1 ratio over chrome and you'll get the electroplated look similar to bandai's.
Great video, been waiting for this one. Have an old dragon fire Revell kit that I want to try the green or blue on.
These paints will be perfect.
Thank you again for another awesome video, I am so glad you did the candy colours this really was an eye opener for me as I make steel roses and use the alcad chrome as the base and ruby red for the petals. Thanks to you I will now try some other candy colours for the petals...... keep up the fantastic work!!!!!!!!
Cheers Ric
