  • In this video I test Createx Wicked Colors for airbrushing on plastic kits. They require a little bit of prep but nothing out of the ordinary. They have deep pigments and are very durable as you'll see at the end of the video.
    I highly recommend these paints as they're also inexpensive .
    To purchase them please use the affiliate link below as you wont find a better price for these great paints.

    I use Createx regular formula and the Wicked Colors and they're very good, especially for adhesion (tape test) and hardness. For scuffing just use a scotch green scouring pad. You don't have to worry about sand marks, and it's cheaper. I know it's a personal preference, but I've tried the 15 minute setup method and spraying right after the 4012 and the 4030 and to me there is no difference. Maybe because I always dry with an airbrush after. I dunno. I really love the 4030 acrylic polyurethane. I use it with all my acrylic paints. Remember Createx dries semi gloss. From watching numerous videos I believe you can wet sand almost right after it air dries. Good stuff
    Thanks for another great video.

  • @ficklampa
    @ficklampa 3 роки тому +1

    Been using Createx a bit, I like 'em too. Though my 4030 solidifed in the bottle after a while so make sure that it is sealed properly, or put it in a bag I guess. None of my paints have dried so must have reacted to the air somehow. Anyway. I've noticed you might need to go heavy with the coats to get the same color as in the bottle, especially for the reds and warm yellow. You should look in to their Quicksilver chrome. From what I have seen from other people using it, looks like an amazing chrome for being an acrylic. Been wanting to get it myself but it's not available over here in Sweden for some reason. Have to import it from the UK, which currently means customs fees due to the whole brexit thing so I'll have to wait.

I’m painting modified polystyrene toys and have been having shit luck, both with the primer (Tamiya Fine Surface Primer) sticking and the Createx adhering to that. I’m cleaning/degreasing the raw surface before priming and scuffing the primer before applying paint and can’t figure out what the problem is.

      @@barbatosrex9473 Primers and surfacers are 2 different animals. A primer is used to etch or prep bare metal or previous coats of paint to accept a coat of paint. A surfacer is a primer used to fill imperfections and has more solids. There are also sealers for use when there is a chance of reaction between the new coat and the old paint. Also thinners and reducers are not the same thing. When you paint enamels or urethanes you use a reducer, and use thinners for lacquers. Both of them would be classified as solvents.

I got he 4012 reducer because I was avoiding too fast of a drying reducer bcs I dont want my tip to build up with dry material and I wanted less overspray in my art work. I get my facts from being in the body/paint industry 24 plus years. I just want confirmation on the 4012 reducer's drying speed and application in regards to lexan bodies and the 4011 reducer.

    Thank you for the Createx Wicked Color testing. Seems to work well with 0.5mm tip airbrush and 30 psi and reducing at 7 drops reducer to 20 drops paint. When you test the black and white, can you try shooting with your battery operated Noname airbrush? That one has a smaller 0.3mm tip so I'm interested to see how much further reducing is needed to shoot Createx in that airbrush.

    4012 has been discontinued, it sometimes caused seeding in the paint, which if it happened in airbrush was just annoying as all hell. If you have 4012 and it does this, you can add 4011 or 5618(their Airbrush Cleaner is their slowest drying reducer) and then some 4012 and it should reduce the chance of seeding.

Over black or gray primer can it be stynlrez? and does it need to be gloss primer? Or have things changed and should I wait for your new Wicked colors video. By the way my Hobby Lobby has stopped selling wicked paints and replaced them with Vallejo model colors

      I hate to say this but things have changed at Createx and they now recommend a different way to prep the paints. They have a new clear that you blend the paints with and no longer do you use 4030. It can go over Stynylrez. I am testing out these paints now for a video hopefully in a week. They have all new pearl colors that I purchased. They're beautiful along with the Candy O2.

    Complete noob question- I would like to know the most matt/flat paint. What paint brand should I buy, or is there a special technique I can use to give that effect?

    • @DansModelBench
      @DansModelBench 3 роки тому

      You can get a nice flat finish by dusting a coat of polyurethane based matt clear, like the ones from Creative, Mission Models, AK-Interactive etc. Typically you build them up with very light dusting coats (opposite to glosses), until you have matted the subject down to the level you want. You thin them with their own thinner/reducer brand. The thinning ratios vary quite a bit, so best to lookup the companies website to get some ideas. Probably the easiest to start with is the Mission Models which is two or three drops of their thinner to 10 drops of clear. Once you are more experienced you can experiment with some of the other countless brands out there. Dan
