We had a beat-up Holden Superbone from the 80’s in our high school band’s instrument closet. We used it as a bass trombone replacement but we also had a piece that called for one, it was a trombone feature called “Spring can Really Hang You Up The Most” from the album “The Ashley Alexander Band plays Frank Mantooth”. Overall it was an odd horn but surprisingly ergonomic.
@@theinstrumentman7429 I cant agree... I have this bone and it plays wonderfully, not stuffy. Biggest issue is the position adjustments that I have had to make. Muscle memory on reg tenor not the same as this bone.
@@virginiapaddler4857 yes! I just bought this trombone. I wouldn't say it's too stuffy. I think you just need the right mouthpiece. But in regards of slide position, I 100% agree. They are not the same and it threw me off
@@virginiapaddler4857 Dang, the fact that the slide positions are not the same as a tenor trombone isn't what I wanted to hear. Does this hold true with every brand of super bone or just the mendini one?
The Valves do give it that Juan Tizol Vibe but you can use the Main Slide to correct the intonation which is something that not alot of musicians thought about.
Thanks! Brass is a lot of fun. That's actually what I did too, switched from sax to trombone and really enjoyed it but both instruments are lots of fun to play. I hope you have fun with it!
@Mihail Milev ya I do now but I hadn't for a couple of years. I just recently got asked to play bari sax for jazz band so I had to get back to playing it. It wasn't that hard to pick it back up since I spent so much time playing back in the day and was still playing music. If you just take some time to practice on each, it's not very difficult. I've found that brass and woodwinds use different facial muscles so usually what I'll do is switch whether my lips get tired. That way I'm "resting" but still practicing
Hello, I was wondering how this mendini superbone has held up 2 years later. would you say it's worth buying? I have a low budget and would like something to play on to build my skill until I can buy an actual quality horn
It's just been sitting in storage for the last few years. There's no reason to play it and it's not a good instrument. Definitely don't buy it, or any superbone for that matter, if you plan to play it in any sort of serious context.
I've heard even those aren't very good. If you want to play a trombone, play a trombone. If you want to play a baritone, play a baritone. There's a reason the superbone isn't common!
Those can be alright, but still not great. They're also not generally accepted in contexts other than mariachi bands. Again, if you want to play trombone, play trombone. If you want to play baritone, play baritone
@@Arthur-hg7ny If you're REALLY wanting a superbone, get the one made by Wessex. I've played both quite a bit, and the Wessex sounds far better for a fraction of the price. The Holton is way more comfortable to hold, but sounds really stuffy no matter what. Superbones in general are a very gimmicky instrument, the valves are going to be stuffy no matter what even compared to a regular valve trombone. I really like them though because I'm left handed, and besides French Horn, they're the only left handed valved instrument. As much as I like them, I can't justify the price for how bad they sound compared to every single other trombone I've played. They sound like a straight small bore tenor trombone if it somehow had an even smaller bore.

Me too. It's a very cheap horn so it does play very stuffy

My band director has a valved trombone no slide just valves- and it’s also no longer a gold color it’s fossilized 👁👄👁
its probably just un lacquered…
Don Ellis also played on a Holton superbone if memory serves me right
Thanks for this review. Now I know never to buy a Mendini Superbone! I research and almost spilled dollars on it. Thanks
Solid review man👍👍
Thanks!
At least this one actually has a slide too, most I’ve seen are just trumpets that appear to be trombones!!!
В каком интернет магазине можно купить такой выдвижной адаптер для мундштука ?
The Instrument Man It doesn't sound quite as stuffy as a Standard Valve Trombone.

already buying my first brass instrument.. a trumpet hahhaha
I have one olds ambassador with slide and Valves desmontable
Audio level is pretty low. Hard to hear on a phone speaker.

Whats the name of the trombone in ebay
If a trumpet and trombone had a baby.
what song did you play at the end
Honestly, I can't remember. It was just something I grabbed from an etude book I had lying around
Is it large or small bore?
It's both. I explained in the video that it has two adapters so you can use either a large or small bore mouthpiece.
@@theinstrumentman7429as soon as i commented this i saw that part of the video. My bad
But the bore refers to the diameter of the slide, not to the diameter of the mouthpiece reciever.
Most superbones are either small bore or medium bore (both take small shank with some exceptions for medium bore trombones)
@@mr.starfish4965 It has .500" medium bore, 8.5" bell , and Standard shank with large shank adapter.
the valve trombone are popular in mexico
Is this trombone comfortable to play with your right hand ?
Its not the most comfortable but it's doable. I didn't have any issues when playing it
Thanks
Glad to know we have Tom Cruise in the low brass
No music. The sound is the judge.
Yay! 😃😃😃👍👍👍
Those are the Trombones that Mexican Bandas use
Save up and find a good used Holton Superbone
Not worth it

Did you watch the end of the video? I wasn't able to play much but the last 20 seconds has me playing a few things
so it can play chords
No it can still only do one note at a time. There's just more button/slide options to make those notes

The trombone is quite stuffy sounding. The original superbone by Holton has a better sound & better made.
Well I'd hope the Holton would be better than a $300 Chinese knockoff haha
Trumbone zㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Y encima tocar con la izquierda, la tontería más inútil...
