John Packer JP041 Alto Sax Review/Repairman's Overview
In this video I take a look at the John Packer JP041 Alto Sax.
Available now at my store, Raymond Music: www.raymondmusic.com/john-packer-jp041-eb-alto-sax.html
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with this sax! It appears to be a copy of a Yanagisawa and carries over a number of nice design features from them. It played better than I expected out of the box and worked great once I fixed up a couple of leaks.
This would be a great option for a student or intermediate player looking for something that will last them a while, but isn't as expensive as the name-brands.
Update: I contacted my JP rep and was able to get a replacement rod for the Eb/C key so that issue is resolved!

Roland TD-1DMK Electronic Drum Set Review/Overview

In this video I take a look at the Roland TD-1DMK Electronic Drum Set. This is my first drum kit that I got to learn the basics of drumming. This is a great kit for beginners or someone who needs a small footprint from their kit. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get it to record to my computer, so I don't have any playing examples but here's a few you can check out: ua-cam.com/video/HKXqWVWjs-g/...

      @@Arthur-hg7ny If you're REALLY wanting a superbone, get the one made by Wessex. I've played both quite a bit, and the Wessex sounds far better for a fraction of the price. The Holton is way more comfortable to hold, but sounds really stuffy no matter what. Superbones in general are a very gimmicky instrument, the valves are going to be stuffy no matter what even compared to a regular valve trombone. I really like them though because I'm left handed, and besides French Horn, they're the only left handed valved instrument. As much as I like them, I can't justify the price for how bad they sound compared to every single other trombone I've played. They sound like a straight small bore tenor trombone if it somehow had an even smaller bore.

    Great video, superb content. Saxophone videos are my thing, it's very entertaining and interesting to me. Regarding the "cheap Chinese junk" comment, it's been a while since they made saxophones that belong in that category I'd say😊 Some might still be of questionable quality of course. Anyway, I have Selmer's and Yamaha's, and 4 inexpensive Chinese horns as well, newer ones. They no doubt hold up very well compared to the expensive brands😊 They seal well, played right out of the box. They seem to be well built, they sound good, little play etc. Quality has increased the last few years.

I bought my TD-1 V Drums 2 years or something ago, I have been wanting to use them with my computer, to record and stream but I have no idea how to do it, I've been asking friends and they also don't know how. So please help, tell me if I need a program or what, I have understanding that one needs to download a controler or something and the computer will recognise the drums but I don't know where to find said controller/plugin or whatever. Hope you can help me, Andrea.

    Wow! I wish you could have some how made this 6 years ago before I bought mine. Don't get me wrong, a sub $500 (at the time) double valve bass is an awesome find but... So, the ergonomics critique is spot on. I've tried the Neo Tech brace but it does not paly well with this horn. I'm going to seek out a bullet brace. And where the triggers are located, you and I must have similar hand size because those are exactly my findings - the F trigger is too far away and the Gb is just out of reach. But overall, it sounds good and can bark in the low register. A good horn if you have a tech that can work on it (which, 6 years later, I still need to do). And I had to add a counterweight to the tuning slide to balance the back a bit.

    The roughness and noise of the slide may be due to them not polishing it to a high degree. Many years ago I bought a Bach 42BGO, new from a major dealer. The slide was so rough it felt like paint overspray so I sent it back. The replacement was the same. After several phone calls including a couple to Bach I found out that when CFC solvents were phased out the replacements took much longer to clean parts. To save time and solvent they only lapped the stockings, so ALL the horns came out like mine. The slide eventually wore in and was smooth and quiet. So yours may get smoother and quieter. You might think about taking a Styrofoam florists cone and sand it to fit the throat of you bass bone. Then you could use it to compare throat size and taper of other horns, because it makes such a difference in sound. Cheap is always an attraction.

    • @theinstrumentman7429
      @theinstrumentman7429 2 роки тому

      That's interesting. I'm sure a decent cleaning would've done it some good too. Although you shouldn't sand or lap a trombone slide. A cleaning with some Texas Flush would've helped as well but sometimes, a bad slide is just a bad slide. I didn't want to work on it at the time since I was just evaluating it as-is

    • @slipbone
      @slipbone 2 роки тому

      @@theinstrumentman7429 Cleaning didn't help mine, only playing it quite often for a few weeks. I'm not sure how long because I got used to it and didn't notice exactly when it smoothed up. I know one complaint of the cheap bones is slide alignment.
