Thank you for your realism! I'm currently on Day 10 of 30/40 day water fast. I'm not craving anything yet, except maybe wanting what I am serving my family. LOL. Thanks for the meal plan idea. I had already thought to break my fast with bone broth and slowly, slowly move up to eating keto. Plenty of veggies and salads. Without the alcohol, I'm sure to stay in Ketosis a little bit better. LOL. If I get past Day 26, it will be my longest fast. 😊😊 Thanks for the video. And I'm am so glad you didn't have to have surgery!
Update: Well, It's Aug and I'm now 7 months from my 28-day water fast. I did well. Didn't crave food. My body did tell me time was up when I started tasting sweet water. Ended the fast with broth and then took 8 days to refeed. I had done a ton of research and the only consequence I didn't really think about was hair loss. The stress of the low calories had me dropping hair 2 months after I started eating again. Now my hair is thickening back up. For me, fasting is a great tool. I still love it. But I think in the future, I'm done with long fast (more than 10 days) unless God really calls me to it. I did this one for personal reasons.
Thanks again for your informative video! I learned a lot and was able to incorporate it into my fast! God bless!

For 29 days, I was deprived of food by others, with only tap water, no salt or vitamins. After release I continued to day 34, ie a total of 33 days not consuming any food, thpiygh I did drink water. Videos like this strike me as both interesting abd important to show people most do not need to eat. My only “voluntary” water fast longer than 2 days was an easy 12 day water fast allowing myself some NaCl. Re feeding syndrome like fasting each CAN BE FATAL, if one is quite lean to begin with. I was under 99 pounds when the 33day fast started, and under 80 pounds at the end. I nearly died eating again, despite consuming very little very carefully, offered intensive care in a hospital but dealng with the situation myself…. RFS did continue for many months. I’d lost an immense amount of muscle, but that’s not all lomg fasts do. It’s a good way to unalive yourself or to unalive someone in your control though there are penalties for the latter.

I've done 67 water only 3 day fasts since 11/2020. I do 2 every month. Once I did a 7 day water only fast in that time period too. I preferred the 3 day fast, so returned to them. It amazingly cured a long term, well since 2012, bad arthritis I had in my left hip, after breaking right ankle 2012. I continously got cortisone shots when ever allowed in that hip. Till I started regular 3 day just water fasts, 2 a month. The pain was like a 9. Down to a 2. Like a memory, a twinge tells me I used to have the issue. It amazed me. That & reading how it fixes diseased cells, all the benefits, only reason I stick to it faithfully. Believe me, I stick to nothing, specially if others notice & comment, ask me when next fast? I previously would be ready to quit any good habit if that happened. I hold on tight to 3 day just water fasting.

I didn’t eat for about 13 days with a couple of days after that I started to eat foods like watermelon, chicken soup, and liquids. I had covid pneumonia. I did shrink. But when I landed in the hospital I was marked as nutritional deprived. My main point is, that you can lose weight as you said. We eat too much food as it is or not so good food for us. I’m tired of the yo-yo dieting. But I get stuck and then there I go again. Step by step - and focused - I like that.

I also did a 17 day water fast and I agree, I felt amazing! Until I didn’t. I quit because I was feeling like the floor was about to fall from beneath me. I cleared this with my dr’s but only intended on 5 days, and I didn’t take any electrolytes. I also have a thyroid condition. The fasting really messed with my thyroid levels and after the fast I went into a deep depression and my TSH went from 6.0. So, if I were to do it again I would take electrolytes, get my thyroid panel tested as I’m going, and follow the soup to salad idea mentioned here. I can’t remember how I broke the fast. (This is just a heads up to anyone with thyroid issues of what to be aware of when long term fasting)

Everyone should do an extended fast at least 3 days at least once. The health benefits are beyond crazy, and way more than just weight loss. I’m 43 and for years I felt tired, sluggish, no motivation and constant migraines. I had gastrointestinal issues that caused nausea every meal I ate, or I’d have colon spams, ouch! I also couldn’t lose weight and I didn’t eat enough to gain, but gain I did. I just jumped in not knowing anything and did a 7 day water fast. I felt like I was 20 again, the energy was crazy! Plus, my mental clarity was so clear and focused. I was super super happy, my emotional health was awesome. The best part, I lost 15lbs!

Gave up the carbs! I do eat fish, chicken & meat. I can pretty much tell the size of meat (4oz.) per serving w/fresh veggies and stir fried cauliflower w/spices. I love food….down from 185 to 130 in 4 months. I am still on a 800+ calorie diet and do not exceed 1000. My doctor, dentist and psychiatrist are all happy with my results 😊 NO going back. I had to do a fast to just get a break from... food. I've heard people say that it's easier to quit drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes because you can just NOT take those things at all. But with food, you still have to eat. Day after day. Portion control, thinking about it, cooking it, smelling it. Social events are centered around food.
And I was just sick of it all. After an initial crappy week, the cravings stopped and I got energy. I felt so damn liberated. My husband was deployed at the time and the kids were grown so I had the house to myself. Before I began I gutted the entire place of all food items. (Except dog and cat food)
It was a pickle craving that broke that fast. Then meat. For the next three months I could not stop eating beef.
I finally settled on the carnivore way of life and it's so natural for my body. Tomorrow I'm breaking a ten day fast and, although it was painless, I'm ready. I'll be enjoying a nice steak.

@gk don't do what @gk said. break the fast with the most easiest thing for your digestive system to digest: a high water content fruit like watermelon, cantaloupe or any other melon, ripe papaya, starfruit, maybe even tomatoes if you can handle the acid content and get organically grown varieties. dragonfruit is good too as it really helps to move that old matter, so it's maybe a good secondary fruit later during the breaking of the fast--since it contains less water than those mentioned earlier. (yellow dragonfruit is so 🔥 so good). water from the fruits is so much more hydrating to move that old fecal gut matter than any overboiled heated soup or eating an egg with yolk.

Had breathtakingly clear and colorful mental images and dreams on the fast.. But - as i say - inactivity was essential for it to work. But 3 days only was what I could manage. I started to feel sad and deprived - like a little kid, really. So I started eating again. What I can manage on an ongoing basis is daily 17 hour fasting. That is watching that I am not over consuming and eating what I eat within a 7 hour timeframe. It is not difficult (for me) and a good chunk of the fasting time - i am asleep. I did a 10 day fast under medical supervision. When she says she needed a "clean slate," i know just what she means. I went to a place called True North Health Center in Santa Rosa, CA, which is an amazing place. They call it clearing your palate.
I wanted help getting off sugar, salt and fats. And the fast achieved all of that. They recommend getting off those before you arrive. But if i could have done that by myself i wouldnt be needing to go there, was my thought.
Because of that decision to go cold turkey i did have a miserable second day. But it never got worse than that! I felt my last discomfort of hunger on the third day. After that, there was honestly no feeling of hunger. A gradually increasing feeling of less stamina, but no actual feeling of hunger discomfort. This is very common to long term fasting. They very gradually refed me over 4 days. This was more challenging than fasting.
As Amanda says, the blissful flavors of in my case a cucumber juice, or vegetable broth eclipsed any possible pining for (horror of all horrors, a twinkie). I HIGHLY recommend an extended fast to kickstart a new life. I went there in pre-diabetes. Half way through my fast my blood glucose was down, my blood pressure was down, my arthritic inflamation was down. The dark, dark and disgusting days of last suppering my "last donut, last cookie, last hamburger, last pbutter m&ms , ETC." made me ill and brought me NO JOY. The contrast of two weeks off of all that bad food is the contrast between heaven and hell! The memory is helping me going forward one day at a time. I lost 20 lbs. Two weeks after that i had gained back 10 lbs. I made no changes and just kept going, but remember now I'm off sugar, off junk food, off fast food, and eating vastly more plant based foods. In another week I had lost that 10 lbs again. I am eating a ridiculously big salad every day, with a can of beans in it and some home made dressing. I eat something else about 3 hours later (an egg, ½ a sweet potato, etc) and then fast 16-18 hours. So not quite OMAD. I hear Amanda's voice in my ears over and over "I dont do moderation." And that is me. I go in big, too. I first heard of ELAB while isolating during my first bout with covid in 2020. Yes, it has taken me this long to get this far. i admitted i needed help, and True North was my saving grace. ( http:/healthpromoting.com ). I can't recommend them highly enough (i get no kick-back for sharing this, btw). If you just cant get it off the ground by yourself, they are the perfect solution. I understand that was all the easy part and now begins the "grind." Im here to thank Amanda for the part she has played in this that she doesn't even know about. Im thankful for sharing her success. Her books. Her videos, includung the one showing her skin wasn't crazy loose after her weight loss (which is a terror for us big girls). That began a complete change in eating habits. Out went sugar, sugar substitutes rice, flour, gluten, all beverages but water, and eventually seed oils and excess carbs for an eventual 65 lb weight loss. It was over a few years because the changes in food were slow. The first things that went were sugar and wheat, the gateway foods to obesity. From a 60yo guy who recently lost 150 lbs after 30years of ever-increasing obesity...
Like most doctors, you don't seem to make the foundation connection, which is fasting insulin level...
If one has been fat for a long time, they'll be both insulin resistant and, also have high fasting insulin...
There is NO withdrawal from the body's fat locker until fasting insulin is lowered...
Body fat "set point" is also DIRECTLY corelated to, you guessed it, high fasting insulin...
Fasting lowers blood glucose level which lowers fasting insulin, that's the main reason WHY fasting works.
Converting the body back to being an "on demand" fat metabolism, as opposed to an "on supply" (force fed carbs to the point of out of control insulin) will normalise insulin and then, the body normalises so the fat just falls off.
I break my fasts by eating FAT, because dietry fat does not provoke an insulin response.

Timely message. I’m in day 4 of a 14 day fast after a year of carnivore with a seven month stall following a 70 pound loss. I’ve known I was switching from carnivore which kept me so hungry I couldn’t fast, but hadn’t decided what I was going to do. I’m thinking I’ll be eating like a bear, what we in the fasting community call OMAD-one meal a day. I like the huge salad option or cooked veggies.

I am on the carnivore diet (Beef, Bacon, Butter and Eggs), it is day 33 for me. I very quickly and naturally transitioned to OMAD - simply because I simply wasn't hungry in between 24 hour meals. I intend to start a 5 day water diet after this weekend purely for health benefits. I have lost about 20lbs and feel great. After my fast I will resume OMAD carnivore as a lifestyle - I love it.

This could have been 3x as long w/ q+a .
First, starts 8/31. Did you work through this? (When not lying on the couch?)
Second, you eat a 1200 kc meal but need 1800kc. Do you then have a snack b/f your eating window closes?
You could have really elaborated on the *thinking*. Maybe explained a bit that you have been trained to think and what thinking looks like- as opposed to ruminating, fantasizing etc. Another thing, you mood set point seems quite high. Was that always the case? Or would you say that generally you are happier now?
And that’s just off the top of my head.
There is a UA-camr called Allymcwowie who lost 180# eating keto, fell in love and gained 10# back, and showed how exactly she lost the regained 10#. She’s a teacher who was getting her masters during this time and I seriously thought this UA-cam stream over 3 months should have been been accepted as a foundation FOR her masters it was so clear and documented and implementable.
And so is this. These are excellent contributions to the science of weight loss. Experience w/o data is not scientific but data w/o experience is useless.
Wonderful presentation. Love it. And love how you have put yourself out there to help so many people. ❤

Couple of times I hit a brick wall for a week or so at "40 lbs. & 50lbs." and immediately went into 5 Day Water Fast both times to jumpstart. 60 yrs old, 6'-0" tall, 250 lbs. 5/1/23 to 198lbs 8/1/23. My first fast ever was the month of April. Like, the entire month. 30 days. I lost 40 pounds, after starting eating with Kettle and Fire bone broth, and getting on carnivore, I regained 5 pounds (colon got refilled) and haven't gained weight again. After 3 days, your body stops making the hunger hormone. What helped me was watching cooking shows on tv.

The goal of fasting is for mental, physical and health benefits whereas an anorexic person is driven by the compulsion to eradicate body fat at the expense of their physical and mental health. So fasting could be done in a safe way or a dangerous way depending on the mindset of the person doing it, for example, I think it might be dangerous if someone has nutritional deficiencies that they are not addressing or if their body fat percentage is already extremely low.
