- Watch along, as we attempt the impossible: This custom BMX Bike has been neglected and its time for us to bring it's frame back to life and revive this BMX relic so it can roll again. However, One thing stands in our way: The worlds most stubborn seatpost. This has caused 2 broken tools, many man hours & a TON of lubrication spray. At this point, i'm not sure we will ever achieve our goal of restoring this BMX frame.

Yea have you tried losing the seat clamp 😂🤦♀️
No bolt in It stfu
There is no screw in there
It doesn’t have a bolt tho so it has no pressure on the seat post
It’s as if it isn’t there
Imagine!! 🤣🤣🤣 that would have saved a lot of time. I can confirm the bolt is fully out! 😫💀
It's quite visible that the bolt was missing so idk why people point it out???@@T77BMX
“I can’t afford to break this bolt”
*Throws whole frame out*
🤣🤣🤣 Good point. The bolt was from another part so I needed it for that!
should have used a blowtorch, not a heatgun
Giveaway would have been far better
🤣
Until he realizes he forgot the seat clamp 😂😂😂😂
Exactly what I was thinking
You can see in multiple shots throughout the video that there is no bolt in the seat clamp therefore did not “forget” the seat clamp.
Yea y’all don’t know that it takes a through bolt to clamp it
It has no bolt in it therefore no clamping power acting upon the seat post
there is no clamp my dude he has removed the bold some of the seats like this cant get removed since its a stunt bike the seat metal is out in when it was heated up so once it is in there u cant pull it out
@@mervan184I have the same bmx but white never had any issues with it clearly the seat bar that is used was abut to big and was forced into the frame
I think, bringing it to a local bike shop will do the thing.
Yes definitely you should use the local bike shop if you have the opportunity!! We are the only Local Bike shop so it is imperative we learn the skills to help the BMX community! 👊👊
Correct way to do this is just to use a slide hammer, it's what plumbers use to seperate rusted pipes. A few hits with that thing it will come right off no mater how rusted, every other method is a waste of time.
OK!! Sounds good dude I’ll look into that!! It’s not the first time we’ve had a frame like this! 😳🫡👊
If the pipe you are trying to remove is inside the frame try dry ice instead of heat on tge peice you want out. Massive amounts of cold could shrink it enough to help remove it.
@@prof.creepypasta6509 Or you could just whack it with a slide hammer and have it out of the frame in under 5 seconds no matter how corroded it is. You can rent one for a day at Home Depot for like 8 bucks. Cold isn't going to break rust as well as a 90 LB slide hammer smacking it.
No needs a torch not a heat gun lol
No you don't use heat and cold, as the interface between the 2 pipes is not threaded. You use cold and heat on threaded interfaces like large bolts in an engine. You use the tool designed for this job the slide hammer. Literally 30 second job with this tool.
You need to melt the seatpost out. Caustic Soda. Heat and leverage will do nothing, there was a chemical reaction between the different metals.
Perfect!! Thanks bro, Caustic soda is coming out for pt.3! 🫡👊👊👊
@@T77BMX not sure if you are being sarcastic or not 😆
In all honesty that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You're not serious are you??? Surely you're taking the piss
Please wear eye protection!
gallium + aluminum = win
I had this problem. I just cut the seat mount off the post. Then made 2 cuts down the length with a hacksaw blade. Came out really easily.
And that's the solution here! I did the same on a bike of mine a few years ago 😀
This is the way.
Yeah, my thought to, had a similar problem a few years ago, did eventually manage to get it loose with enough violence, but the next step I had planned was to cut it.
Fixed, same here, 2 slots with a padsaw
Damn that’s hella smart. Way to go.
Heat makes metal expand, you may want to try cooling it instead! Drop in in a bin of ice water. If that doesn’t work on its own, possibly try heating the frame from the seat tube and cooling the seat post with ice, then pull it out
YES, that’s a perfect solution!! Thanks a lot! 🫡👊👊
@@T77BMXDidn’t you thrown away the BMX ?😂
This happen back then with my surly moonlander. I got 2 cans of Finish Line chill zone spray. Its a 2 person work with lots of brutality. Bt it work.
Nah, heat up the frame, dry ice or liquid nitrogen on the post.
Heat does make metal expand buts that's the point heat up seat post it expands expanding the frame
Anyone german noticed the 187?
😂😂😂😂🐊
ich
In America it is used as a police code - I believe that’s why they have used it! 🫡 I am keen to know what the 187 will represent in German? 🙌
@@T77BMX 187 Straßenbande refers to 187 Street Gang which stems from a german rapper and is a common joke here in germany among teens😂🤙🏻
@@T77BMXas mention by another comment, it’s part of the name of a German rap-group. The origin is actually American, it was first used by American rap artists as a reference to the paragraph 187 in Californian law (homicide)
187 is police code for homicide
+1 for plumber knowledge. This is 100% a plumbing problem, not a bike problem! 😂
Bros gonna grease every seat post he has from now on though! An expensive lesson but he won't ever forget a quick grease smear before putting metal & metal together again
And it has to be re-greased at least every year
He left the seat post clamp on...
@@Soknik01 there's no bolt in that seat clamp so it's applying no holding pressure to the seat post, it's seized as well as the seat post. Even if it was the seat clamp was still fastened it would snap like a twig under the force he applied when he had the massive scaffold bar on it & was stood on it....
@@gazcoleman I've had posts seize but never that badly. The damn thing couldnt be more stuck if it'd been lubed up with jb weld and stuffed in there. Wonder if the post is a mm too big or if its an aluminum post in a steel frame?
@phorest wouldn't go that far lol
It's called a blow torch more heat from a heat gun. That's why you work on bikes😂
Yes a blow torch, and we will melt the seatpost to butter. However, a blow torch would also damage the paint on the frame.. 🤔
When using heat or cold, make sure it is localised.
If the frame, where it joins the seat post, heats up (or cools down) at the same rate as the seat post then they will expand/contact together and it will not help you with removal.
@@T77BMX listen to learn not to reply... ok so throwing the bike away is better than damaging the paint? but heat makes things expand anyway. when i saw that i already knew how dense you are. looking at your reply to this comment will maybe help you become a little less stupid because your reply is what makes you stupid.
y dint u clamp the seat post in a vice an spin the framme
Thanks Brother… Vice is coming out in Pt.2 - I’ve also got a special surprise!! 🥤🤔🤔
Use Caustic soda to desolve the post, protect paintwork,be patient and you will be able to save the frame
Ok!!! This is excellent, thanks a lot! 🫡🔥🔥
@@T77BMX caustic soda works if the seatpost is aluminum and the frame is steel. caustic soda + (hot) water will disolve aluminum.
Bro forgot that in science its actually not heat but you need something very cold for the metal to kinda shrink but shrink enough to be more loose
Also heat makes it expand a bit more
OK!! Thanks for this 🫡🫡 now I know 🤦♂️🤣
Glad someone else realized this 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
@@scotth4439learned it off yt yet not in school lol
If you heat the outside, it should've released.
I would love that frame
Here's a secret, go to your car truck and pull out the car jack
What you really need is a vice for your bike. When you hammer with nothing stopping that force all your force is lost when it moves slightly.
You were just making the problem worse using heat as it will expand both metals and cause them to clamp onto each other even tighter😂😂
We love and we learn. (Been there before) lol
Ohhh man, I can’t believe I didn’t know 😫🤣🤣 Thanks bro
@@T77BMX happens to the best of us bud, we're only human😅👍
Bro didn’t use the Coca Cola method
The bars, stem and fork trashed too?
Noo, they’ll be fine. We got it back out of the bin for round 2! 🫡🥊🥊
I had this problem on occasion at bike shops I worked at. If you take the bottom bracket out, turn the bike upside down, pour a regular can of coke in the seat tube (not the seatpost) whilst the bike is upside down in a vice.
Next day the coke used to eat through the oxidization and come right out. I know this is only an anecdote but it's worked for me when all else has failed. I hope this helps someone.
Yo that is an awesome comment bro!! thanks for the idea's. I have tried to Coke trick i coulnt get it to work! I will have to go back for Round 2! 👊👊👊
Heat up the entire tube not just the top could be seized down further. And use oxyacetylene instead of just a heat gun. You will have to repaint it however if you do.
Excellent!! Thanks for this. It makes total sense! I was really trying to avoid anything to damage the paint… but we may be left with no choice 😫🙌
You gotta get it red hot with a torch
i just chiselled out the seatpost. dedication is key
This has happened to me, you just have to lose the seat clamp 😂
Hahaha oh man I wish it was that simple. I tried that also 🥲
Bros using heat in stead of something cold 😂
And that's why ladies and gentlemen, we use grease
Anyone else noticed that half the time he’s hitting or turning it the wrong way😂😂
Hahaha Woops.. My Bad! 🤣👌🔥
And now he got his frame hot which will make it brittle over time
Ohh man, I can’t believe I didn’t think of this. I hope it’s ok.
Assuming you loosened that seatpost clamp, dry ice on the post.
Metal frame + ali seat post = amalgamation
Mannnn it’s a nightmare it’s so stuck! 😱🤣
My brother didn't pay attention to physics in school. Heating it causes the metal to expand 💀

Heat makes metal expand
Yes, I was hoping the heat would expand the frame and help free the seatpost… tomorrow I’ll add more head to the frame! 🫡👊
Thought you threw it in the bin? @@T77BMX
@@mtabby1 I got it back out of the bin for round 2! 🫡🥊
It can't be stuck if it's liquid. Get a better torch.
@@codymensing8232 yess! But I was thinking will this effect the paint on the frame? 🤔 Going back for round 2 today 🥊🫡
Little does he know it’s cross treaded
Ahhh man! 🤦♂️🤣🤣
heat the frame cool the seat rod (thermal expansion and contraction should make a gap)
‘And even heating it up’
Bros using a £20 heat gun on steel 😂😂😂
Turns it to the right the entire time
Haha! 🤣 imagine that was it. I wish
Heating metal Makes it expand. That's why it was harder to remove
Mechanic here. When all else fails method the works most of the time is hitting the parts up with a torch and then immediately spraying it with penetrating oil like wd-40. The way this works is that you heat up the metal, the metals expand and then you call them down with the penetrating oil which causes it to shrink rapidly. This in turn crumbles the rust in between the surfaces. Just remember it needs to be hot till the oil smokes. Not red hot. Have you seen this method countless times from the smallest bolts that refuse to budge to big car knuckles.
A blow torch would probably get a lot hotter than a heat gun
Thats a great idea! Thanks bro 👊🔥🔥
Its really easy to remove. All you need to do it is chop the top of the post off and then use a slightly smaller bore drill piece to drill the center of the post. Once you've weakened the post, use a small saw blade to saw it inside outwards. 😊
Plot twist - it's left hand thread 😂😂😂
Drill a hole from the top. Then try to brake it down from the inside or file down until it becomes thin and fragile.
Thats a Great idea bro!! 🔥👊👊
Heating the seatpost just makes the grip tighter.
LMFAO..
You heat both the stem AND the sleeve😂😂
Mr.grinder and mrs.chisle will be your best friend 😂
Hahahaa!! 🤣 Good idea!!
Put the seat post in a vice, rotate the frame, worked for me.
Heat is actually a bad idea because it excites the atoms and makes the metal like larger a little bit that's why some houses stop creaking in the summer but the creek in the winter
That’s great help! Now I know this 🤦♂️ I won’t be trying the heat method again 🤣. I think we will melt the seatpost out now! 🫡🤣
Heat gun won’t get it nearly hot enough to contract any metal. You needed either a map gas or propane torch.
Wooops, Thanks bro! Now i know. I was worried i didnt want to ruin the paint on the frame if i use a torch.. 😅👊👊
"WHY AM I THROWING OUT A PERFECTLY GOOD BIKE IN THE TRASH" maybe because there's no wheels
Bro heated it up and didn't pour ice water on it 😂😂😂😂
You don't need heat, you need to cool it down, head expand the metal.
Woops. 🤦♂️ Can’t beleive I didn’t know 👊
Brother metal when heated expands itself😅
Ohhh man?! I can’t believe we didn’t know this! 🤦♂️🤦♂️
i love how he aimed the heat gun on the one part youre not supposed to heat when using that technique
as a car mechanic bro, that heat aint doing shit for you
The problem: aluminium seat post / steel frame.
When aluminium oxidizes ('rusts') it expands. (Aluminium oxide takes up more space than aluminium).
Oil has no chance to get through; tension is too high to break it loose by force.
Should have:
1) Cut off the top of the seat post
2) Use a hacksaw to cut a section of the seatpost out of the frame. (To relieve tension).
3) A little percussive persuasion to break free the remainder of the post from the frame.
That's it.
Heat it down the frame and use a flame instead
That heat gun aint doing anything, that shit gotta be red hot
The seat went back on 😂
I remember when there was only the stress shot… what good days, getting excited for every tease and finally getting a removable mag what good days
At this point it's practically welded, youll snap the frame before that post comes out
Need to heat it red hot and cool it as quick as possible
Ok!! Thanks a lot 🫡🔥
Drill it out man!
Niice! Just need a long enough drill bit! 🫡🙌
Try heating the frame rather than the seat post, the idea is the make the frame material release the post.
Heating the post is making your life harder.
When you're about to give up, use a grinder and cut a line in the middle of the seat post. You can put something flat in the middle of the seat post and use both ends of what you put in the middle to twist the seatpost around. You can drill a hole in the middle of the seatpost as well slip a metal rod inside and do the same twisting and pulling upwards motion. Left Right left right slowly the lubrication will go around that way and you'll be able to get it out.
Jb welding wizard back at it again

Baught a used frame with the same problem, I used much more heat than you as I have access to industrial grade torches.. someone mentioned “slid hammer” but I can confirm that on the most stubborn sadly that did not cut it either
The best and sure to work method that should be done before heat tempers your frame and hammers bed it is to cut the top of the seat post off exposing the hole through the seat post
All you got to do then is take a thin saw blade and cut through the length of the seat post and pull it out but crushing it in on itself and tada (I used a sawzall and ones I got close to hitting the frame itself I used a hand saw)
This is excellent!! Thank you so much!!
We got the frame back out & trued for round 2! 🥊 You won’t beleive we managed to get it almost complete with your method! ☝️
Thanks for the comment brother 🙌👊
“I have enough Levvrege” 😂😂
Not enough heat and you need pb blaster it's literally the best thing for that job 😂😂
Haha OK!!! Good idea. Yes needs more heat for sure 🫡🔥🔥🔥🔥
Metal expands with heat. So don’t do that lol. Thats called expand and contraction.
Ohhh man! I can’t believe we got it so wrong 😫🤦♂️
Rj the bike guy holding all his tools in the corner
Hahaha nice!! 😅
Heat makes it harder to get off
Woooops... Now i know!! Haha. I will go back for Round 2!! 🔥🔥
Hit this as hard as i can
* tap tap tap
I’d recommend getting something with better heat, I mean idk about BMX frames and I’m guessing a blowtorch will probably strip the paint but worth a go. Another thing is where the bolt goes for the seat clamp to pull the metal together, try sticking something like a chisel between it and knocking it in to spread it apart. The post will fall out at its own free will 😂
Just cut it out with a ginder ? 🤣
Not bad… but would we be stuck with the bottom half.. 🤔. Maybe we will have to cut it! 😳🫡👊
Haha man says heat basically just brrathing on it with that heat gun
Haha! Yes but a torch would ruin the pain 😫 we’ll see if we can fix it in pt.3
Someone needs an big ol impact drill
Ohh that would be decent!! Haha it would definitely work! 🫡👊👊👊
Untill he remembers that using heat is only going to make the metal EXPAND...
If heat doesn't work then try the cold. Get some compressed air in a can and flip them over. Spray the bike frame to get it to expand. This is a common method used when replacing the teeth on a flywheel after they have been sheered off as it causes the metal to expand.
Bro forgot to use his brain that day, how did heating it up ever sound like a good idea?
Weld it to the rail and heat it till it's discolored
That’s a great idea!! 🙌🔥🔥
heat makes stuff expand so heat is just making it bigger and tighter
Instead of heat, try making it cold af, it will contract, maybe will help get it out
Next time, clamp the seat post in a vice and use the frame a leverage.
candle wax can sometimes work better than penetrating oil
Sodium hydroxide will dissolve aluminium seatpost within day or two, drain cleaner.
The aluminum of the seatpost welded itself chemically to the steel of the frame, due to constant heat cycles and poor lubrication. The thing you'll need to do is to obliterate the seatpost completely, while still leaving the seattube relatively intact.
Since this is a BMX seatpost, it's likely to be rather short, so a sawzall to cut off the top of it, and to make slots into the tube should solve the problem. Usually.
Copper slip on assembly every time 👍🏼🍻🇬🇧
Yep!! It needs something … this happens way too often 🤣🫡👊
I know I'm a few months late but on all your bikes when building them make sure you use plenty of grease on your parts that make more contact like the Stem seat post and cranks
Recently, I got my kink issue back. Was bare metal when i got rid of it. It came back to me after many years in need of love. The seat post was stuck like this as well. Used one of the yellow canned torches and some transmissions fluid. Came out after a few minutes.
He was heating the wrong part 😂
It's a Pivotal seatpost . Theres a bolt and a wedge in it. Like the old steering necks.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean. Unfortunately this one is not like that. Thank you 🙏👊
Bro is the upstairs neighbour
I've managed this situation with a good table mounted vise.
Thats a great idea dude!! 🔥🔥👊👊
Never tried unscrewing the screw close to the seat 😂😂
