Woke up in a sweaty panic cuz I was unhappy in life last month. I'm going through a nasty divorce (abusive partner), just got out of the army (accompanied by a broken hip and anger issues), and I have no idea what I can do with my future because all my skills were in physical laber. I went out that night, spent 350 on painting supplies at Michaels and just went with it. Never been happier and the change has led to everything else improving. These videos do more then help people get better at painting.

The key is to use the Van Dyke Brown to give the proper look of depth as well as contrast.

the idea of making choices generally terrifies me (in my art as well) but he, somehow managed to make it a satisfying thing, crazy stuff....

I was having nightmares and couldn’t sleep and nothing was helping (it’s been abt 2 hours now) and then I remembered Bob and I was like “yeah let’s do that” and I’m not disappointed. Thanks man

I remember once when my Mom was hospitalized in the ICU and we didn't know if she was gonna survive. I came home stressed and crying sat on the couch crying for awhile. Eventually I turned on the tv and found a Bob Ross re-run. I sat watching, and it calmed and soothed me and made it a little easier to get through that day. That's what Bob was good at -- calming the storms inside us. Thanks Bob!

I'm only half way in, and I can tell this is going to be one of my favorites. It's very, sleeping beauty's forest vibes. I love that. Fairies live here for sure.

This is the 1st (& only so far) Bob Ross painting I've tried. He's a magician cuz mine didn't quite turn out this way and I swear I did what he did.
Just keep practicing! There's little details with the technique that can't really be verbally explained for you to do perfectly, you just gotta improve the way you paint this naturally
I'm really glad i discovered these Bob Ross videos at this moment of my life, it seems all other media (movies/news/books/websites) atm is all about negativity and dystopia and i just want to be happy y'know? Also it's very good for my own art improvement

Hi grunts. So glad you could join me. Today we're going to start with a happy, little gun range. Just a happy little bit of marksmanship. Today let's start with your M4 carbine. When you clean your carbine, just use odor-free oil. I don't like to use soap and water to clean the natural wood of my stock.
Now then, let's just load the magazine with a little bit of ammo. Not too much. Let's just go into a little bit of 5.56 NATO. Not too much. Not too much. We're just trying to make gentle little impacts. Nothing too serious. Just remember, this is your happy, little world. You can make it whatever you can imagine with your little M4. And if you get some bullets where you don't want them to be, there are no mistakes in our world. Just happy little accidents.

I worked with a guy who was stationed at the AFB that Ross was a drill instructor at. He never met him, as Ross left years before he worked there, but it's common knowledge at that base and he met many older guys who knew Bob. I asked him about Ross, and he said "you mean Beat-'em-up Bob? Nasty guy from what I was told, and everybody at the base had to wait to see his missing finger on his left hand to know it was him."
Ross said the day he quit the Air Force as a drill instructor, he would never raise his voice again. He went from the guy who would scream at you and smack you around, made you "scrub the latrine" to being the most calming, soothing person in the world. I listen to him when I want to sleep.
I just bought a bob ross shirt i am wearing it right now while watching this show, I don’t think life could get any better.
My husband gave me a Bob Ross calendar for Christmas! I put it next to our coffee maker. Easier to start the day with caffeine, happy trees, and a quote from Bob :-) Oh, and drinking the coffee out of my mug that reveals a Bob Ross masterpiece when hot (pretty sure it's his painting of Mt. McKinley/Denali)

I panic every time he covers up beautiful sky with clouds, clouds with mountains, mountains with trees, trees with water, water with rock, rock with cabins, cabins with bushes, bushes with fences, and fences with more trees. But every time, it turns out perfect.

He’s definitely right about the artist having absolute power on the canvas. No matter what medium the artist uses, all artists are working with the infinite: there are infinite things the artist can do with color, light, shadow, scene, mood, emotion, and so on. The same goes for music, another infinite art form.

I have always LOVED hearing Bob Ross' soothing voice, as it's just so calming to listen to. :)

I love watching him paint streams.
There's one stream he did that I tuned in too late to see how he did it. It is one where the water is quite clear and the stones are very visible. Been trying to find that one.
