I have a bmag. I put it in a boyds pro varmint stock. Brought the accuracy down to 3/8 of an inch. I highly recommend that stock. You will love it. I use the 25 grain exclusively. Many woodchuck have met their demise with my rifle.
Incredibly efficient energy delivery. You normally only see cantaloupes blow up with massive projectiles. These high velocity 17’s might be the safest pest busters when considering ricocheting or over penetration. They’re dumping nearly all of their energy in the target.
I hope you're correct about manufacturers making more ammo for the 17wsm because I just bought a target model. Unfortunately savage kind of killed the round before it could take off, because the first Bmag used cheap plastic stocks. I don't know if the thin barrels hurt the accuracy because I have center fire thin barrels that are very accurate. A flimsy stock that can't hold a barrel securely however is a very bad idea.
My B mag came in yesterday can't pick it up until Friday I have a Boyds Spike Camp stock coming and other goodies. was able to get 500 rounds of 15 grain and 500 rounds of 20 grain.
Enjoyed the comparison! Was surprised at the difference between the two grain weights! Will have to look at your other videos for accuracy at range. I’m curious now! Was good talking the other day, btw. Hopefully see you in a couple months up your way!
Thanks for watching! I'm actually on the fence about the 17 WSM still. It has a lot going for it, but the ammo supply really worries me. If you get one, set aside some money to buy the ammo in bulk when it comes in stock.
Thanks for watching! It's difficult to remember which tip is which. I keep a line up on all my window sills with post-it notes below them so I don't forget. My neighbors think I'm pretty cool.
@TheOldFatDadGoober sorry I couldn't resist the sly dig from Australia. I still use feet up to about 6 feet and inch up to about 12 inches. It's much easier to picture than 1.8 meters and 30 cm. I can't get my head around 37/163 rd's of an inch though. I'd say " she's about 6 mil (mm) mate"
I believe ALL 17 WSM ammo is made at one facility (by Winchester) , it's just brand packaged as ordered. That be the case why do shooters claim better performance from one brand over others?
The .17 WSM descended from a .27 caliber nail-gun blank, runs 33k psi rather than 26k psi in the .17 HMR. I just wish they'd have used the .224 bullets in this nail-gun blank than the .17 caliber. But I guess, at some point you just go to centerfire cartridges which make common rimfire pale by comparison.
@@TheOldFatDadGoober Probably the motive. It's similar to S&W with their giant X-frame handguns. Biggest, fastest, whatever. It's interesting, but will it ever leave the niche status? .22wmr is my fav among stronger rimfires and there is such a variety of loads and functions within that cartridge. But I will be entertained by .17 content as well.
@@exothermal.sprocket The 22 Mag is a great round. If you are limited to rimfire only, I think the 17 WSM has a lot going for it too. If it goes back into production.
If the chronograph is showing meters per second you need to multiply by 3.28 to get the feet per second. Your high speed copper bullets were going faster than 3300 feet per second.
I know it's not rimfire but they've also make a 17-5.56. I think it's like the fastest traveling standardized cartridge out there. They make up to 6000fps or something close to that. Lol pretty intense
I would think the available 25gr bullet would still penetrate better than the all copper 15gr round, not to mention carry much more downrange energy 150 yards and further. Shame they group the worst in your rifle (and others it seems) considering they are the ideal long range bullet...
@@TheOldFatDadGooberhe means why are you shooting large targets at 10 yds when you are shooting a prairie dog rifle which should hit small targets at long range.
