22 LR (CCI Mini-Mag) is a 40 grain bullet at 1235 fps which puts muzzle energy at 134.8 ft lbs. 22 WMR is a 30 grain bullet at 2300 fps which puts muzzle energy at 354.5 ft lbs. 17 HMR with a 17 grain bullet at 2350 FPS has muzzle energy at 266 ft lbs even and the 20 grain bullet at 2350 FPS has a muzzle energy of 246.7 ft lbs. 17 WSM with a 20 grain bullet at 3000 FPS hits a KE of 402.1 ft lbs and the 25 grain bullet at 2600 FPS hits 374.3 ft lbs. Pretty dang good estimates on those muzzle energy calculations boys! Great video. Thanks!
Been eyeing the 17 Super Mag myself. Until then.... I've been shooting Aguila 30gr Super Maximum 22LR @ 1700fps. 8 cents a round at Turner's. Several thousand rounds and zero misfires. Also, the Aguila 38gr Super Extra HP @ 1280fps. Again zero misfires, so I'm sticking with it. For some reason I get 1 misfire every 30-40 rounds with another well known name supposedly mfgd by Aguila. Hmmmm🤔. And for my 22Mag, I've been using Hornady 30gr V-Max Polymer Tip @ 2200fps, with excellent accuracy. FYI, It's a real hoot launching 22Mags from a 5.5" barrel revolver and seeing the flames shoot out. And that nasty higher pitch 'Bam'....Man Stuff😎
Earlier in the year I found a site that had 6 boxes of 25 grain 17WSM for $25 per box! I had been looking for those near a year. Sadly for once I became THAT GUY and bought all 6.
Excellent video guys! Only thing I would add is 17hmr doesn't have the energy that the 22wmr has at the muzzle but when you get out to 50 yards the 17hmr beats the 22wmr.
It seems to be making a resurgence. It's averaging .40 per round now. However at the time we filmed this video there was almost none to be had. Ammoseek was only yielding 3 or 4 stores in the U.S. that had any.
@@indianhenoutdoors7764 Well thanks for letting me know what website not to check because I know 4 store around my city alone that has them and didn't even run out during 2020
That 17 WSM is no joke. Unreal the difference. Great video
@barkburton1 it surprised us as well and thank you. It definitely would lay the smack down on a coyote or feral hog.

Midway has Winchester Varmint HV 20 grain ammo available in a 50 count box for $22.99 currently.
I need to jump on that
just bought 5 boxes great for coyotes
Just checked Cabelas and 17WSM is now selling for $19.99 which makes it .40 cents per round
Yes! It's amazing how more readily available it is now since we filmed this video
There is no such thing as .22 WSM.....The correct rename is .22WMR which is Winchester Magnum Rimfire.
Typo.

17WSM is pretty common in my area price ranges from 20-25 a box
@chickamaugafisherman1034 really where at ? You don't have to be specific obviously
17 wsm all day wish more companies would support it
Does the 17 WSM bullet blow up on contact like the 17 HMR?
no doubt .17wsm is hard to find.
I've stocked up when I find it.
Need to get a 22 hornet... sadly they are getting more rare
The .17 Hornet is as big of step up as the.17WSM is compared to the .17HMR. I load the .22H to 2900fps with a 40 vmax
22 Hornets aren't as hard to get as you would think. Some reputable European companies make them.
Geeze man I pay $17 for a box of 50 for Winchester WSM. Where in the heck is Ammoseek looking. It's been that price for at least 4 years.
