That works great with the mini humbuckers. Great tone
Does the bass and treble increase as you turn the bass/treble knobs down?
Timmeh!
Literally all I hear
Office reference? :D
South park !!👍👍
Was not expecting this much gain from this pedal! I feel like there are a multitude of better options for this level of drive. 90 percent of Timmy fanatics are not using it this way...I always thought the Timmy was low gain sweet overdrive
Very true! I have a Timmy and never push the gain past noon. With the gain around 11 o'clock and the toggle switch in the middle ("open") position, it just brings my guitar sound to life, gives it some sparkle and an "edge of breakup" sound. Weird that all the demos I've seen of this mini version have the gain so high.
Big things come in small packages. Timmy is like a gift from the sorcerers apprentice.
Great demo. I always enjoy your youtube videos.
Whoa. I may be able to put a Timmy on my second pedalboard. Seems like a faithful rendition of the Timmy I got some time ago. Cool and at the same price point too.
that Strat though
Hey, Ray! Like your channel.
This is pedal is definitely getting on the list, the blue jr is doing a good job there too
It’s basically a tone-sculpting tool, the gain and volume are Interactive, the volume is at 0 dB at 12-o’clock, and in this one the bass and treble are cut only as you turn them counter-clockwise.
The dip-switch goes from asymmetrical clipping (left) to symmetrical low compression (middle) to symmetrical heavy compression (right). It gets gnarly when you crank the gain, and this is easily my favorite pedal besides my waza craft tuner.
Fuzzy drive ! Big headroom !
John I had no idea that you could spank the plank , great .
I've watched your rig run down and enjoyed them greatly. I really like the sound of your les paul.
I like the crunchy gain on this. I might buy it.
I love John's Les Paul Special...wonder if he got it that way or did that aftermarket.
I'm dying to know... was that version of the Music City Les Paul original with mini humbuckers? If so, what year? -- Or... did you modify the stock one that had P-90s to add the minis?
This pedal ships with a manual that is all "Don't electrocute yourself" with nothing specific to the pedal in it. So THANK YOU for figuring out that the bass and treble knobs are "cut only". I saw another review of this pedal where the guy was telling us those knobs boost bass and treble! They don't. This is a sweet OD that is like the Nobels but maybe even smoother.
The first 10 seconds and I was sold! On just about anything else available.
Whoo! A pedal named after meeeeee!
Bro I got a PRS SE 245.I put some Duncans in it that's the only mod I had to do. I got it because of ur demo. I can't afford a les Paul so I found this was a great vessel for mods and I got pretty close. Thanks for the vid. Also I'm trying to decide between an OCD and a timmy and this vid really helped .🎸🎼🎵🎶🎶🎶
Gonna stick with my Danelectro Tod version from years ago!
Bit of a Kevin Shields final chord on that intro, sweet.
John, you are a phenomenal player. I really enjoy watching your demos.
It's supposed to be transparent but that's the second video that sounds like a fuzzy mess. Perhaps I don't want a Timmy after all. Too much bass on the controls?
keep the gain lower, raise the level (to overdrive your amp also a bit), keep the bass way lower, tweak treble to taste.. it's that transparent (bleh, stupid word) sound you expect of it. I run mine into a Victory countess in the clean channel set just _before_ breakup... After a while I forget it's one.. it's just 'my tone'. I never raised the gain past noon yet..
Yes, it turns fuzzy if you raise the gain and leave too much bass in. Bass complete to the right is 'no bass cut' (like the original Timmy bass complete to the left).. and every OD needs a bit of bass cut.
@@jorismak Yep. Most people just simply don't turn the Timmy bass and treble cuts enough to match the gain setting. They treat it like most pedals which have limited EQ range and the bass pre-chopped like a TS. The Timmy isn't like that at all.
First time when a Timmy is used as a Boss metal zone.
This Timmy sounds fuzzy (even fizzy) to me unlike the standart one used before...I am not sure this is the real thing.
Mete Sev dude cant play. I’ve tried it in person and I thought it sounded really good. Doesn’t sound good at all in the videos I’ve seen, for whatever reason.
Rock on timmy ,oh well it was close.
Hey man!
The bass and treble, like you said is cut only. So, it's never boosting. It's not cutting at all when it's at max. if you put at 12 o clock, it's cutting, but if you put it to 3 o clock, it's cutting less, right?
It’s the opposite way… if you turn the bass knob clockwise it cuts the bass… same with treble…
A little confusing…
@@joeurbanowski321no it doesn’t…
@@MattD86 you’re right.. it doesn’t.. I had bad info..
there is something technically going wrong on that intro demo....then that weird fuzzy thing happens randomly throughout the video.
well, the pedal is good, but tell me more about your guitars. All of them.
The intro sounded horrible. Who would want that awful sound?
I think I prefer its sound with the humbuckers over the single coil. The single coils just didn't sound as smooth.
I can't speak for the MXR as I haven't tried it yet but a Timmy hsa plenty of EQ range to smooth out strats and teles. IMO neither Andy or John have dialled the pedal at all well.
Ey it sounds just like the 48,000 other pedals out there haha
So is Paul Cochrane working for Dunlop or are they licencing the design from him?
digatelier this is what I’m wondering too. Is Paul retiring from pedal building?
From what Paul has said on forums he's not retiring and will continue to build the Timmy V3.
IMO, you can't demo a Timmy. You need to feel and experience it. It isn't a high gain pedal. Its an amazing EQ that can add another dimension to your sound.
Chris Camm just what I needed to hear.
where's tele?
3:53 Missed! :D
Extreme fuzz
Rock’n’Roll
So, is Paul still going to make pedals himself, or...?
This or the sugar drive?
I have the sugar drive and I love it.
I also have the Sugar Drive and with all knobs at noon it perfectly pushes my 2204, 4010, 2525H and YCV50B into singing, effortless leads and tight, articulate riffing. Walked all over the GT-OD it replaced.
Serious Tone dirt box this good , deserves a Normal size. Great range too.
There already is a normal size made by paul Cochrane. The only reason he collaborated with MXR is because he didn't have the equipment to manufacture a mini version of it. They're not the easiest to find but lots of stores let you pre-order them if you're interested
A real timmy doesn't sound like that.
At least in my Vox and Laney amps.
Wow. Holmes looks like a sorta banged up Timothy Olyphant. (or rather he's the danny devito equivalent to Timothy Olyphant's Arnold). lol. no offense of course.
Not a good Timmy demo! Timmy deserves better!
Timmaaaeee!
Reverb Just beat you too it
1590A form factor don't save any space as you are forced to terminate on the sides.
shhh don't tell them, they aren't ready for it yet.
Yeah, its time to redesign the interconnects to allow closer box placement.
Imagine trying to take away 1/4 " connectors from musicians.
Best OD pedal.....EVER.
I love John and his playing but this just isn't a good demo. Timmy controls are really wide ranging cut controls. With the gain up that high you'd really want to be cutting both bass and treble a LOT more to avoid both fizz and flub. If the best demo guys seem to get this wrong with the Timmy because they treat it like say a TS where you have a lot less bass to begin with, and tone knobs with less range.
I just saw the demo of this on reverb it sucks ass from my opinion!
Ese sorete de pitufo no es el Timmy que yo conozco.
Sounds noisey with all that trebs.
The pedal was dialled in really badly in this demo.
For everyone complaining about fizzy tone, keep in mind it’s being demoed through a Blues Jr which can be pretty fizzy all on its own when pushed.
too-much-gain. that's not what most ppl use their Timmy for. i hope i'll find some low gain demos.
lol !
I'm sorry but this sounds like that Carlos Santana parody video that made the rounds a while back....seriously guys...you should pull this video and redo it. I usually love your reviews( and this reviewer)...somethings off
This premiere c**p is really anoying. Seems like something that fell out of marketing toybox...and should have been left on the ground.
I agree. I don't give a shit unless the video HAS ACTUALLY BEEN RELEASED, hahahaha...
Problem is, it mixes in with videos actually released, and there is no option to filter it out.
We're just trying to ball with our internet overlords and this is their "shiny" new toy...
@@premierguitar understood. Glad we had this talk. Not like we are paying any for this content, and monet has to come from somewhere.
Regards
We appreciate our audience and what they have to say! Enjoy the video in a few days...
Stop fooling around and bring a tele
sounds like a rectifier pretty crappy tone
Timmy is a great pedal and john is usually a great reviewer, but this is not a good review. To much gain, and all that bass will drown in a mix🙈
Sounds like a Fuzz !!! Sounds like shit !!!
Please get a more qualified player to demo this stuff!!! I'm hating this product because this person, I feel, isn't helping me to even want to hear the rest of it!! I'm not saying he's bad but just not a good fit for demoing this product!!
