I thought u liked the cheap. Amazon klon the 30 $ one? I was against it. Maybe I got it wrong
I would love to see the Lovepedal eternity get this treatment.
A few years ago I was playing a restaurant brunch gig outdoors in Northern California. It was chilly so no one was sitting outdoors, except for one older couple. When we finished the gig the couple came over to talk to me. The gentleman looked at my pedal board and set up. He asked me what picks I use. I use Dunlop Jazz III picks. He said “I make those, I’m Jim Dunlop”. Luckily I had a Phase 90 on my board! He asked for my address. A few days later I got a package with 100 Jazz III picks and 20 sets of strings (which they were working on at the time). I’ll never forget that as long as I live.
Wow that is such an awesome story. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
Thanks for sharing great story.
That's definitely a great story - and yes, thanks for sharing it. Man, I always respect my elders and love age and wisdom. Drives me crazy when punk kids make fun of older folks. God willing, we all get to grow old(er).
That's unreal.
That’s totally cool!
For me, one of the best things about these pedals is that not only am I supporting smaller pedal builders, I’m also supporting my local music store who stock MXR and I’ve been going to for over two decades!
I H8 music stores & retail. Everythign should B sold direct online with flexible return policy = will make it all much cheaper because no retarded 'must not undercut the retail network' krap =P
Being from Sweden, I love the "Hasselblad" sign in the background.
Mr Hasselblad (and his cameras) became worl famous around the Apollo project and one of his cameras went to the moon.
Late 1960's...Mr Hasselblad flew from Sweden to New York (this is in his biography)
A young woman at LFK airport customs looked in his passport, looked up and said: Your name is just like the camera!
Mr Hasselblad starred her in her eyes and said: I am the camera!
Classic!
I noticed that too. My dad was able to write off things like cameras, so he had an awesome leather briefcase from them with a dark purple (as I remember) lining with slots for filters, the film body pack thing, lenses etc. He was into hassleblad (sp?) well before the moonshot because I remember recognizing the camera in one of the moon pictures. Yet another casualty of the digital age. Too bad we have no choice as to whether or not to be so involved with computers and cell phones, as I think life was far better before them.
People should also appreciate what YOU do for the pedal and music and people industry. Tank you, sir, love watching your stuff.
One time I stopped at the Benicia Dunlop factory to pick up a new switch for my old mxr, they just gave the switch to me, I was willing to pay for it. They then proceeded to fill up a bag of picks, strings and stickers and thanked me for the support! No I say thank you Jim and your sweet company!
Back around 2003, I picked up a Rotovibe in a pawn shop(for $30), and it was missing the rubber skid plate on top. I called Dunlop, told him where I got the pedal, and asked for the part number so I could order it through GC. The guy on the phone asked if I had a credit card and he could sell me one direct. I did not. Then he said "what's your address?", and a couple days later I had one in my mailbox. It's not an expensive part, but it was a very cool gesture, and it stuck with me that they would send out a part for a pawn shop pedal, and I play mostly Dunlop and MXR effects ever since.. Beyond great customer service.
The MXR Timmy is by far my favorite pedal. It's reliable, quiet, and can do everything from a simple boost to blues edge of breakup to crunchy crunch. I'm not a heavy gain person, so the MXR Timmy legit has it all for me
i also love mxr timmy with my 5e3 and mxr carbon copy... i am considering a 2nd timmy for my upstairs rig..
For me the Timmy is the holy grail of light gain.
I love the Timmy too. I have an MXR mini Booster pedal in front of it (boost plus a bit of that EP pre-amp) and plan to put the Duke of Tone after it. I find the MXR pedals play together really well and "gain stack" perfectly.
I've been so pleasantly surprised with my MXR Timmy. It was gifted to me, I probably wouldn't have got one otherwise, and I'm so happy to have one. From boost to breakup it's perfect. And if I want heavier gain I add it to another gain pedal to get insane amounts of distortion and sustain.
@@howlinthewilderness
That seems to be a great approach to getting some heavier distortions. I've been trying the MXR Timmy paired with several different overdrives, boosters and distortions. Still trying to decide what to use in a live setting.... decisions... decisions! :0)
Thank you for doing this, Josh. Making UA-cam into an archival record of these important innovations is a great gift to the future.
Josh is a good human.
Love these chats Josh. It’s worth staying up at 1:00AM in Australia for. The deep and serious stuff is really cool. Inspiring actually. Keep doing these mate!
I hope they come out with a Fulltone line. It would be great to keep those going.
Speaking from the future
They finally did it 😏
You made so many valid points in this video, Josh! Thanks!!! Unicorn poo and fairy dust are in no way obsolete... they just aren't absolutely necessary ingredients to sound great. Jim Dunlop did so much for musicians, products, etc that he deserves wider recognition for his massive efforts. Keep up the great work you're doing in many areas... it doesn't go unnoticed.
Josh,
Love the history lessons. I'm a freak about this kind of stuff!!!👍🏻👍🏻
I will be purchasing both the Timmy and the Duke of Tone. Why? Because there are no bad pedals! The "Josh" philosophy! You don't even have to demo them, because of who's behind them, they have to be awesome. My whole week revolves around YOUR UA-cam channel! Keep it coming!
You JHS Soldier,
Guitar Dave🎸🎸💯
Just when I thought MXR had really covered every corner of the OD market, I just saw a demo of the Super Badass Dynamic OD. I know this sounds like a straight up planted comment but I assure you I'm an actual person who just likes the stuff...anyway if you like those 2 you mentioned, this new one is very impressive too
Adam,
I saw the demo too, and you are spot on! Thanks for looking out. I appreciate the positive response and the info Adam. Peace out!✌🏼🎸
Guitar Dave🎸🎸🤘🏼💯
My gain stage goes: MXR Booster > MXR Timmy > MXR Duke of Tone > MXR Variac Fuzz. I get all the tones I need and all the pedals play together really well.
Josh, thanks so much for another history lesson! I love your enthusiasm! We all need to play what sounds good to our ears; Squier/Fender, Epiphone/Gibson, printed circuit/ hand wired? Play those things that make you happy and make you play more!
Amen Josh!!!!! Let the creativity and accessibility spread as ignorance and snobbery fade!!!
I own the OG Timmy and just got my koT this year after a five year wait. I love them and am so glad others can enjoy without the wait. Timmy is my desert island pedal.
Dude, you’re not only a great pedal wizard as you are a wise businessman and teacher. Thank you for all the insights 🙌🏻😉
When people ask you to name your imaginary dinner guests, you’re on my list. Love the history, the detail, the curiosity and the passion. Keep doing what you do.
I love your attitude, Josh.
Sometimes it sorta feels like we are in the “instagram” era, who cares what the pedal sounds like as long as it’s pretty, uses all NOS parts, very expensive and limited availability. Can’t forget a super fancy box too. (I do understand presentation is important but when it’s the main priority it becomes kinda silly)
@@stoneysdead689 I think some of how I feel towards the market is self induced as I own quite a few expensive pedals and then see Frusciante melting brains with a bunch of Boss pedals making me realize I need to focus more on my playing and not minute differences from one overdrive to another, what’s the hottest pedal, etc. But hey, as long as your having fun I guess.
While I am a big fan of pretty pedals like the ones Tru-Fi offer, I could care less what the pedal comes in. I don’t want a fancy box I rather just have the manual and the pedal.
Idc what the pedal looks like but it’s a huge bonus if it’s a great-quality great-sounding pedal that looks really cool. I’m not a fan of custom artwork I’m more talking about colors and sparkle finishes lol
Lol all the fancy pedals I bought 20 years ago came in plain white cardboard boxes, which I still have.
I’m enjoying slowly collecting cheap used pedals. Most sound fine and I don’t need more stuff that people might want to steal, or spill a beer on
@@stoneysdead689 yes, thieving bastards have turned me into the person who doesn’t let anyone borrow gear anymore
Totally agree! Graphic design is for ameteurs and millenials !
This type of video is, I think, what you do best - definitely my favorite! I so appreciate your knowledge, and wealth of research and history.
Paul is the best. I''ve watched him building pedals in his garage. He never rests! I'm just really happy to see that he's working with MXR to soak up some demand for his circuit and get some easier income.
I was looking at the Timmy and honestly, the marketing explaining the 'colab' wasn't that great. I was a bit confused as to what, who and how they came to that pedal and in the end didn't get it because I thought it wasn't going to be like the original. After viewing this today, I get a MUCH better understanding as to what is happening with these re-issues through MXR, especially with Dunlop's involvement. Very cool Josh! Thank you very much for the cool VID's.
I love how Josh builds boutique pedals, and doesn't sell snake oil like so many others do.
Yesss, looking forward to a JHS-MXR collaboration! Maybe your joint take on a Klon or a RAT or a Blues Driver would be cool! (Though you did Blues Driver take with BOSS already, Tube Screamer is still on the table though as it doesn’t seem to make sense to make a Morning Glory with MXR).
Thanks Josh for bringing the topic up positively and sharing this amazing history with us!
Cheers,
Alexey
Loving the collaborations! Thanks for everything you and JHS do. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Josh, I’m sure I’m one of thousands that could watch and listen to your presentations for hours.
Your passion and insightfulness in this topic is nothing but impressive.
Please write a hardcover “coffee table” book in the vein of Synth Gems or Vintage FX but only about pedals of course, full of pictures of your collection, interviews, anecdotes and your own products of course.
Time to put materiality to your digital encyclopedic contributions.
The MXR Timmy changed my guitar game. Before I put a Timmy on my board I could never get the tone I knew I wanted and was a mediocre electric player at best. After the addition of the Timmy, on the advice of a friend and a little time ordering my drives, I got THAT tone! That inspired me to dig deeper and get better. All because of a pedal that made my entire rig come to life!
yes, me too! Not long after, I was able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. (eyes rolling)
You finally got to see Pearl Jam live!!! Good for you mate
I had the line/boost driver :) what an amazing pedal! Stacked it into an EHX Soul Food. MXR make amazing stuff! Glad to see these collabs happen!
love my mini timmy.i usually get bored and sell pedals i biy but i kept the timmy. its a great pedal for medium drive
I love how passionate you are about these little boxes.
I have an MXR Timmy a like it very much. Didn’t know anything about Paul Cochran when I bought it - just sounded great. Is it my all time favorite overdrive? Maybe not but I use it a lot. Am I going to buy a DoT? Hell yes. I tried to snag a Prince of Tone for months and months - must’ve been doing it wrong - and finally gave up. I WANT IT NOW.
I love all the MXR and Dunlop products I've bought. The Echoplex Delay is simply fabulous, but I love my minis - the Phase 95, Classic 108 fuzz, and the Timmy. Definitely want to add a Duke of Tone to the line up! Their analog chorus is great too. With their origins in Rochester NY, my backyard, what is not to like!
Not only is the Timmy good, and versatile in tonal range, but it also pairs well with some other dirt pedals. I found plenty of joy running it with an EHX Violet Ram's Head Big Muff Pi reissue, with the Timmy after the fuzz. I recommend this combo for players of Strat-style and Les Paul style guitars 🙂
Josh, Thank you for ALL the info! You help us guitarists out allot with all your videos here. Also your effects pedals are always ahead of the pack and user friendly. That means allot to guys like me. I LOVE your Alpine reverb with the internal loop, your TINY FOR FUZZ is a GREAT compliment to my Wampler Velvet Fuzz! The Supro pedal you make is also a total tone trip! My next pedal will be the Color Box full pedal version as soon as I can afford it! I've been out of work for medical reasons (don't worry I won't bore you with the details) but as SOON as I can get back to work I will be all set. I don't even want to record ANYTHING till I get that Color Box!!! Thank you for all your insight and awesome and interesting Jams. Please extend my thanx to your drummer and bass player of said jams you are all such a GREAT team!
Thanks for all of this info Josh. I love my Timmy, which I use singley or stacked. Just pre-ordered two DOTs so I can stack them and use different settings. I think MXR is doing it right.
People will love your content when you love what you’re doing. That’s why these Monday talks are so great!
Great episode. Like to see something on why pedal builder's put input/ output and power jacks where they do. For my boards seems to make since to have IP/OP on the side and power on top.
Love what you're doing, Josh. You have a teacher's heart :)
I have a pedalboard and collection with only mini pedals. I have the Timmy, ordered the Duke of Tone. Also have the Tumnus and the ODR-1. One transparant overdrive is still missing though I want to be able to stack and experiment with on my board is The Morning Glory mini. Will that happen one day?
Collaboration IS key! Very well said Josh. We can always benefit from combined expertise, that is the essence of the logarithmic progression in all of the sciences.
I love how Josh is raving on, talking so positively and pretty much advertising for free a direct competitor to his own Morning Glory.
I freaking love these Monday talks ... thank you for doing this!
Great vid, Josh.
So, so interesting for us geeks to get insider knowledge of the industry and some of the background legends. Love the collaborative thing & bought an MXR Timmy when it was released. A pillar of my board & the mini size is interesting because I also got a mini nobels ODR, thinking about the mini TS & now the mini KOT. How about a mini MG?
Late to the game here. This video is a year old? Takes nothing away from its awesomeness 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Thank you. 🙏
“We arrived with bells on”…
When the most common way to get around was by horses, horse drawn buggy, or horse drawn sled, you could adorn the yoke with decorative bells. Travel was often treacherous. If you came across someone who was stuck, and your horse(s) pulled them out to safety, it was a common gesture for them to offer you the bells on their horse. Thus, when you made it home safely, you could say, “We not only had a wonderful trip, we’ve arrived with bells on!”
JJZ…(°¿.°`)
Im all about Strugglebuggys!
I have an MXR Sugar Drive (their take on a Klon) and I like it better than more "accurate" Klones. I think these kinds of pedals are fantastic for guys who just want the sound, and aren't worried about the boutique prestige. I'd rather buy the MXR versions than cheap-o stuff, but in the end, it's about the sound.
I’ve got one too and it’s been almost always on for months!
@@honkytonkinson9787 Isn't it great? Perfect for cutting through a thick band mix. I would love to get their 108 mini fuzz, too.
Get a Timmy too. I have both and am sure I'll get a Duke at some point. Check out One Controls loe gain pedals, some very good drives.
I love the Sugar Drive, even more than my Archer.
Glad you brought it up. If you hadn't, I was thinking of asking him why he didn't include the Sugar and Fat sugar since they're also clones of epic pedals.
Thanks so much. I love these shows as a.part of your amazing content. I feel smarter and am excited to get a Duke of Tone pedal.
Another great Monday talk! As much as I love the jams and the jokes on the Regular Show these Monday talks are really peaking my interest. I feel like I have learned something every time and learning is what keeps me going. This was an excellent subject for a Monday talk thank you very much for sharing.
These Monday talks are a great idea. Highly informative/educational & captivating. Thanks, Josh!
Cheers..
I want to second the idea of you talking about the supply chain issues as related to pedals. That sounds really interesting. And thanks for these talks. I'm loving them.
I love my Duke of Tone. I place it on the input of a Boss GX-100. For my Suhr Antique S, I set the Duke to boost with tone at 12 o'clock, volume and drive at about 2 o'clock. For crunchy OD settings on the GX-100 it adds another gain stage that sounds tube ampish.
I have the mini Timmy. It sounds amazing. I recently tried it with the gain turned all the way down and it sounds great as a boost. Someday I'll get the full-size one since I like bigger knobs. I plan to get the MXR Duke soon and then eventually get a Prince so I can use them together (and have a full-size pedal, plus the two internal dip switches).
'Boost' & 'OverDrive' is just code 4 'my tube amp sux & I should buy something that doesn't need extra bull$hit 2 $ound GR8' =) Like 'boost' = WTF? LOL!! U don't plug into like a 5150 whatever thinking 'wish I had more gain' HAHAHAHA
I got a Shin Juku Drive a couple of years, after seeing an MXR video demo. I have been looking for the sound I hear when listening to Santana play "Smooth". I have subsequently learned that a big part of that sound is Santana's use of a Dumble amp. I'm now on the search for a "dumble" sounding amp that will give me the Santana sound of Smooth. The United Audio pedals "Centavo and Warm" drive come pretty close, and I'm considering those. Love this video!!!
Just gonna join in on the kudos for your attitude and sharing of your knowledge, and for your spirit of boosting other brands rather than seeing them as competitors. I'm a hairdresser by full-time trade and have always had a similar attitude - there's enough to go around, customers like having options and it's okay if three other people cut their hair, or they have three different overdrive flavors; whatever. Maybe people will come back and sit in my chair or they won't, but I feel like as long as I'm always doing my best then people will find me, and it's okay. More options are always better, and it's great to see smaller companies joining forces; everyone wins.
Your passion and enthusiasm is simply great to watch. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Great episode, with, as always and expected, valuable insights from Josh.
The question I asked in the chat remains though.
Regarding the 'knock off' clones: where do we as regular street level customers/musicians draw the line between a decent 'inspired' product and a dismissable cheap rip off? Why is a Joyo Baatsin a respectable affordable alternative to a JHS Bonsai, not even to mention Behringer vs Boss/Ibanez? Why should anybody ignore the point made in the Can You Hear It episodes (the Moksy Superrat is awesome!), other than the subjective 'pedals are an experience' idea?
Why is a DemonFX webshop pedal, if it sounds good, a sin, and all the zillions of 'boutique' clones of screamers, rats, and muffs, a blessing, other than who makes money, gets praise, or owns 'authorship' ?
Sure, I personally prefer a cool genuine Klon over an Ali Express Golden Horse, like anybody, but when I objectively look at the price and the product certain thought process start grinding.
Would be great to see a full episode dedicated to this dilemma.
A couple of arguments have been made, regarding quality controll, fair use of original topology, brandholders getting paid, customer service etc.
But it all seems so contradictory at some point to small budget, enthousiastic medium nOObs like myself....
Anyway, great work, and yes, MXR is doing a good job with initiatives like these.
I think this is an absolutely reasonable question. I have some Mosky, Joyo, Mooer, Flamma and Caline pedals. And I don't think they really shy away from revealing what inspired their pedals. Is it possibly because DemonFX seem to also try and clone the visuals of their pedals too? I did buy their Dual Gun, which is a copy of a pedal called a Duellist. Friend of mine uses a real Duellist and I love it. But I didn't want to drop $400 for a pedal that I've never used. So I suppose I've just brought more questions than answers with my reply here.
And I did just pre-order a Duke of Tone on Sweetwater. So I'm not just trying to avoid "name" guys. I have JHS, Dunlop, EHX, Boss and Strymon pedals that I gig with regularly.
Duke of Tone is great design for amps with hair on them already. As a Marshall JMP lover. Gain pedals that work with them is a must. Tube screamers only work with bf clean fenders. They don't work with JMP amps. Also like my 5F6 bassman. Same type of gain pedals for it. The new Fat Rat works with 5881 bassman but not with JMP. Duke works great with JMP. Also spark boost works with JMP. It's full of mids and low mids.
Thank you for all of the historical work that you do. ps. the pedals are great too!! The morning glory is my go to overdrive. It’s on almost all of the time. I have the Angry Driver also 😎 I have a Cry Baby from the early 90’s. I love it! The MXR tremolo is amazing!!
This is extremely helpful, I was very confused with the association of Dunlop, MXR, etc. thank you again Josh!
This is the democratization of high quality guitar pedals.. I'm all for it. I have two Klons and non of them are Klons. This has upped my guitar game so much. . Thanks Wampler and Way Huge!
I have the Tumnus Deluxe and I don’t feel like I need to go pay thousands of dollars for a real Klon. The TD is great especially with the full tone bank and gain boost.
I have the MXR Timmy and it is a great pedal. I got on the KOT waiting list March 2018, and they are shipping orders from Jan 2018 now. So my KOT will be soon. =)
MXR deserved more attention, one underdog pedal is the Super Badass Variac Fuzz, so good that even John Frusciante is now using it.
yeah, a cool pedal i like it ...it's something between a fuzz and a distortion... and yes it's on jf's New board 😉
@@rogerYT69 variac is dunlops band of gypsys fuzz with added tone and variac knobs...and I see its in your account picture...
Have a good day
@@lovmasin cool, thx for the info! i didn't know that the mxr variac is based on a fuzz face ...you never stop learning ...yeah the fuzz face is working better as a profile picture than the mxr variac 😉
i thought he used a fuzzrite !?
@@danielcarter3928 yes jf has also a fuzzrite on his actual board ...and many other pedals 😀 and two ds-2 😉
I LOVE the passion you have for perspective! I feel like you have invaluable information I need regarding tone and not just based off how expensive a pedal is. Favorite quote of the show today... "When the tide rises, every boat rises." You seem to have an open hand personality which makes me want to go out and buy all your pedals!! And, the fact you are a KC dude like me.
Just got a call from Sweetwater. I had ordered a MXR Duke of Tone and a rep called me and thanked me for my pre order and he wanted me to know that it was probably going to be till the end of October before I would get my pedal. I knew it was gonna be some waiting cause of so many people wanting this thing. I thought it was awesome that someone took the time to call and make sure I still wanted it. He even offered to refund my PayPal purchase so I could put it on a credit card so I wouldn’t have to pay for it now. Very cool of them to call. I kept my order as is. I’m telling you right now that any future guitar related purchases will be through that company. Really impressed especially with how piss poor costumer service seems to have gotten since the pandemic pretty much everywhere I go. I’ll probably order a Timmy next 😃
Yea, Would`nt it be cool to pull up old videos of the builders of the past and hear them talk and explain about their new products, That would be amazing, I completely understand why you do this and it is just Awesome.Thank you for all your work..
The MXR Shin Juku drive is still my favorite MXR overdrive. It's so unique.
Love mine. Really under the radar too...at least until now.
@@ththejackjumper well there was only 2500 or so of them made so they're sort of rare, from what I see there's only a dozen or so left on the online market.
Dylan Carlson of Earth uses one as his main dirt, check his stuff out: ua-cam.com/video/0CpTtj3JWws/v-deo.html
Playing and enjoying music and building support for artists are so important. Our young are so overwhelmed with internet eye candy..sound bites.. video and lousy media. Music can be pure but I dunno. Music is being very marketed and distorted to sell or take something from the normal person ( or child ). Keep it up Jhs. You keep us thinking what’s important.
Love your channel! Always very well done, always educational and always entertaining! Thanks! 🤘
Thanks so much!
Great insight. So valuable and enjoyable. Bless you!
Thanks for your honesty in all things pedal electronics and tone.
Imagine how Fulltone's story could be different if the OCD was made like these are. Could it be different? Would it be? It's a thought to ponder...
Very well done - this needed saying.
I have a Timmy and it’s kind of my “always on” pedal. It’s great. Josh I love your passion and research.
An MXR Timmy, or a “real” Timmy?
@@jakollee I’m confused. I thought an MXR Timmy was a “real” Timmy?
@@RamirezFlores I meant a Paul Cochran Timmy, a standard-sized pedal that PC made for years before the collaboration with MXR to make the mini version.
@@jakollee I figured maybe that’s what you meant but isn’t this the same circuit? Or is it missing something from the ones he hand builds?
@@RamirezFlores Well, I have both pedals, and I don't know the technical reason, but it's my impression that my original PC Timmy sounds better and has something about it that the MXR Timmy mini is missing. The MXR is still a good pedal, but it doesn't seem to have the same sparkle or presence of the Paul Cochran Timmy. That's just my experience; others may disagree.
I have the two Tims and a Timmy and I am looking forward to getting an MXR Timmy. These pedal are very versatile and just fantastic. I haven't gotten a KOT yet. But will be getting an MXR KOT because MXR pedals have never let me down as well. I love my MXR CAE boost and wah pedals. I can go on. This very cool.
I was amazed to see the duke come to market, almost seems like philanthropy for ‘competing’ companies to help each other out like this. I love the guitar industry. ❤
ya it’s seriously the new wave of business. it’s awesome to see. we’re lucky to be living in this time imo.
Love these Monday talks. The bit about the cheap Chinese knockoffs breaking brings up another point. Accessibility in the music industry is a positive thing, but when these cheap pedals and synths break they end up in landfills. I don’t like the idea of instruments becoming disposable and contributing to our massive consumer waste issue
Great episode Josh, Now I have to go buy a new “Timmy” …. I had it on my wish list now it’s literally on its way.
I would like to hear about the supply chain issues.
Supply chain issues, YES!!! I’m a hobbyist and would like to transition into making a couple of pedals, but find parts supply has dwindled. Are you seeing a turnaround any time soon? A show on this topic would be great.
I think this is a good clarification of what you meant saying “the boutique era is over”: in this video you described the _experience_ of boutique as insular.
It’s not the modes of production you’re referring to in the boutique era being over that’s ending, it’s the attitude of “I’m a wizard, I’m magic and I’m not going to collaborate” you described in some boutique builders that’s ending.
That might be why people be confused. The boutique mode of production isn’t ending; it’s the boutique builders who see themselves as singularly fantastic/magical that’s ending. And what a good thing.
I have the MXR Timmy and have pre-ordered the MXR Duke of Tone. I have no idea what the "original" Timmy is like but I like what I have. I am 2 years into the AnalogMan King of Tone waiting list so if I don't die first or miss the notification that it's my turn, I'll find out how that sounds ... eventually. Based on my experience with the MXR Timmy my hopes are high for the Duke of Tone. Ultimately I can't get all wound up about "authenticity"; I care more about whether things sound good, and I like trying new things; and I don't mind if I get good sounds without paying a ton of money.
Ok Josh. I agree with your premise. I bought Flamma pedals and Joyo pedals after listening to your description and almost endorsement. Are these under your negative comments now? Thanks. ✌️❤️
Really enjoy these lecture style videos! Fun getting to go deep on some of the history!
Any chance an episode can be done on the adrenalinn pedal from Roger Linn. It’s a very unique sequencer sound used by several artists.
Really enjoying Monday vibes. I wonder if they would work best as a podcast? I'd like that!
Yeah, I'd be all over that too.
I remember seeing a Jim Dunlop ad in the back of guitar player magazine for his first product.
It was for a capo that was his take on a capo that eliminated common capo flaws , Innovative from day one .
Everything Dunlop touches, it turns to Gold!
The MXR Timmy, MXR Duke of Tone and MXR Sugar Drive are the drive pedals on my board. How I wish Bill Finnegan would also release the Klon Centaur/ KTR under MXR that would complete my dream pedals for way less money
Duke of Tone sounds krap. Check tha JooToob demos = waste of time. It's like that awful MXR pedal Malmsteen uses. I was wondering 'how does it all sound so $hit with those Marshalls? Oh = he's getting the distortion from a fuking trash pedal = LOL!!
The Sugar Drive is already a Klon-type pedal already.
Just on DemonFX, i bought a DemonFX SSS just so that turd Mason Marangella didnt get a single cent....i think thats an acceptable use of clones Josh
p.s. My 1st ever JHS pedal was a MilkMan back in the day, loved it
Josh ... A great help to those purchasing and understanding pedals, sound and even circuits.
I can deal with your flat no policy on JHS wah pedals. But why not a very cool autowah? Or even an envelope filter? I think that segment of the market is quite explorable and you could make a really cool tool to conquer it. Anyway, so great to see you and listen to you every monday. Greetings from Italy
Love these Monday shows! Hope you keep them coming! Great stuff!
Also we had EHX make the Q-Tron, designed by the guy that did the Mutron, after Musictronics went out of business.
That was great. Seriously. Thoughtful and informative. Your perspective is appreciated.
Really enjoying these chats... Cheers Josh!
I'm giving myself a Duke of tone for Christmas. I've been in the KOT waiting list for almost three years and this is a game changer for me. Getting the taste of the KOT meanwhile I wait for it.
Absolutely no hate for Mike, the KOT is a great pedal. But holy cow, the waiting lists are ridiculous.
This was a great show. You are so dedicated to the purity of what U do. Always impressive.
i just got a duke of tone and it far exceeded my expectations. Ill say controversially that clone pedals do not offer the full expereince of the genuine article.
I have a cry baby wah I bought from a homeless guy on the streets of toronto (probably stolen) but MXR/DUnlop havce gained a lifetime customer and I love their pedals, picks and everything they produce!
Thanks for elaborating on the subject!
What about the caline pure sky?
Nice one again. I'll probably miss most of these live but I'll check them out as soon as I can. Probably wouldn't post anything in chat anyways. DemonFX stuff is all over eBay too. Latest I see are direct lookalikes of the Darkglass bass stuff. Have a good week, Josh.
