Hi Nicole. Great video. I’m always looking for information on watering and getting the job done in a timely fashion. I have 118 orchids and it takes me about 3 hours , 3 to 4 days a week. I like the self watering pots and put my Miltoniopsis and Tolumnia’s in them. I only add water to them when they are dry and the wicks are completely dry. Seems to be working great. Looking forward to see how you water. 🥰👏
Hi Nicole, your collection is amazing!! Very good advice, too. I live in Maryland and also have my collection in a spare bedroom. I currently have 90 plants, 70 which are orchids, and they are all now in Pon self-watering except for my summer blooming ones. 20 of my houseplants are also in a mix of Pon and Leca in self-watering, too. My goodness, what a difference it has made having the majority of them in inorganic media, much less physical watering to do. Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks Wanda! I'm glad inorganic is working for you. I agree that it's less work with regular watering, however I find that I need more water to flush them. At the end of the day it takes a while to figure out what works and what doesn't work right? Thanks so much for watching and have a great weekend!
Serious question! Do you talk to your guys? I also have my collection set up just like yours, except I only have about 75. Set up in my spare bedroom as well. I walk in every day, take a quick look and say Hi guys! out loud, how is everyone today!?
I should talk to them 😂 I think I only speak with them when I'm surprised and see buds or sheaths, like omg, you're being a good orchid. I love how you ask how everyone's doing today, I may copy that 😂❤️
Wow you’ve a lot! I’m getting extremely lax with my watering. I’ve only a dozen or so but other activities get in the way. Sunday ideally is my day but it can end up mid week or the following weekend! I’m glad they are quite forgiving. My biggest issue is jug water going everywhere as it runs off leaves. I think a long thin spout can is called for. Thanks for your advice. Electric mister would be useful. I used to have spare trough s and move them all into those for a good soak then grain them off totally before replacing. Works well in the summer when I can do it all outdoors s and have time.
@@TerryMcGearyScotland long thin spout or pump sprayer is the way to go! It's a good time to get lax at least because things are cooling down now right? :) lol
I’m anxious to see how exactly you water. I have about 40 in my spare bedroom and bring them to the bathroom to water. It takes me over 2 hours. I use rain water so I bring pitchers of it up. I would also like to see how you flush one. Love all your videos! Thanks so much. 💜
I've been grouping orchids that have similar watering schedules together. Every four days, I water my new Miltoniopsis and then the two Paphiopedilum hybrids I have. Everything else is about once a week. If it's a newly repotted orchid in bark, the watering would be much more frequent. If the top feels dry for my Maxillaria tenufloia, I spray the top with plain filtered water.
Hi Nicole, thank you for your video. It is such an important topic. I have about 100 orchids now and cannot stop getting new ones. So watering gets more and more time consuming. I have seen you using an electric mister in the video. Do you like it more than a just an ordinary sprayer bottle? Do you find it more efficient?
Nicole, do you consider self watering the same as semi hydro? Also, do you use organic media in your self watering pots? I have a hard time with oncideum types (i live in Texas and its HOT in summer and cold in winter, so i put them in self watering and organic. I havent really seen much about these types on your channel. What do you use/suggest? Im a relatively new grower and like you, its all inside the house, under lights for about 225 orchids. You know! Its alot to manage! But its a labor of love. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
I think self watering with leca is just a modified version of semi hydro that works similarly. No, I don't use organic media in self watering pots. In the past only when it was very hot for phals in moss, but I don't do that any longer. Organic is prone to rot if it stays in water. Hope that helps!
Thanks. I never get tired of looking at your plant collection.
Thank you for watching ❤️
So helpful. I find watering is the most time consuming and “work”.
That and repotting 🥹 thanks for watching!

Your attention to your plants shows, Nicole!! Beautiful. 🫠☺️💯👍🪴🥰🤗
Thank you so much ❤️😘🤗

Great video and love your setup!! So many beauties!! Your hoyas look awesome too!!
Thank you friend ❤️🤗
I use a bucket instead of taking to kitchen sink. Love your videos.
Thank you ❤️❤️❤️

@@NicoleDeanna True enough! Except my central heating is more called for some days.

I used to do that but when the collection got larger I realized I should just water right on the shelves. Flushing takes forever though!

Sounds like we are doing it similarly grouping things to make our lives easier. It's a lot of work but worth it when we see beautiful blooms!
Hi Nicole, can you show us how you flush your collection? I'm not sure how to flush pure spaghnum without making it too soggy.
Sure! I can do that.

It's a game changer imo! It's automatic and I don't have to really do anything to get the mist going. Give it a try and lmk what you think :)
Will order immediately:) Thank you!

@@NicoleDeanna it does! Thanks!
have you tried growing Tolumnia?
A long time ago I had one, i killed it and didn't try again lol.
Can I ask where did you get the clear plant mats
I got them on Amazon, I have them linked in the description under shelves and supplies. Thanks for watching!
