    I just watched your well organized and thorough explanation of the five tips you provided for better orchid growing. Many of us in Florida are recovering from back to back hurricanes. I am still assessing my orchids where they were moved under a wide overhang on my screened patio and placed a fan near by for air circulation. I've noticed that so many of the buds are opening up quickly now. Maybe the change in moisture and extreme temperature changes is playing tricks on them? Whatever is going on it appears that things are out of sync. My hopes for all the growers and vendors for a safe recovery to your growing houses. Many commercial growers have Gofundme pages to assist with getting back on their feet. As always best to you and your viewers. Respectfully,

      @@dsiegel22 thank you for watching ❤️ What happened in Florida is terrible, I have a friend who's home was destroyed, I feel bad for everyone who got damage :( I hope everyone has a speedy recovery as well and back on their feet soon. I do believe the cooler temps wake some of the orchids up! We know phals spike, but cattleyas also like their day / night temp drops and perhaps being outside they had a more pronounced cooling? I wish you many happy blooms ❤️

    Hi Nicole, to rescue a cattleya, similar to the first yellow and red that you showed here, what should I pot it in. I have a plastic basket and am using leca, but its still wobbling in that. Should I use bark also?

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  6 днів тому

      @@cherylpenn4509 it depends on your environment. If you have very humid conditions you probably want something airy like coarse bark. If your conditions are similar to mine, my repot videos may be helpful (love moss and bark). It's normal that a fresh repotted orchid is wobbly at first because the roots need time to establish. You can use a support stake to hold it in ❤️ Gl with the rescue 🛟🥰

    My humidity right now runs between 30 and 40 temperature in the room is in the low 70. I live in New Hampshire. Night time temperature fluctuates between 40 and 50. Slow down water or wait until November .

    If you can't tell which season a new cattleya blooms in, would it be safe to guess that it be around the same time that a new growth finishes growing? 🤔

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  3 дні тому +1

      @@Joe-nj3bb only if that cattleya is mature will it bloom from the latest growth. Sometimes they don't bloom from each new growth though. If it's a species, you can find this info online. If it's a complex hybrid, it will bloom more often usually but harder to pin down exactly the bloom time.

      @@NicoleDeanna All of my new cattleyas are complex hybrids except for the pupurata. Akatsuka lists on their website expected bloom times, but most sites don't.
      I have the violacea and hibiki to keep me company for now. The violacea opened its second bloom yesterday.

    Don't do aspirational repotting. Snug is better.

      @NicoleDeanna  6 днів тому

      @@randallbenson7966 definitely don't want your orchids swimming in a big pot! I have to repot mostly because my orchids outgrow their pots and I put them in snug setups to begin with lol
