I enjoy your video very very much ! YOU DID GIVE ME ALL THE ANSWERS TO MY QUESTIONS ! I have subscribed your channel right away ! The best thing is to mix the seeds with sand ! Thanks again from Hong Kong ! 👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Good video on sowing seed setup. I like the sand method as lithops are so tiny! How long do you keep in humidity before starting to open? Do you grow outdoors or under lights? Love to see more lithops videos and subscibed. Thanks.
Thanks James 🙂🙏 I wait until most of the seed have germinated and then I open the lid just a little to allow fresh air to come in. If you leave them in the humid air for too long after germination, you can get damping off, which is a fungal problem. I grow mine in my greenhouses outside. Haven't tried grow lights, but have seen a lot of people grow them with success online 🙂👍
Before their first split, I would water them every couple of days. You want the mix to remain moist while they are babies. Once they finish their first split, you can start to reduce the watering.
Hi, im now germinating my lithops seeds, i sowed them 3 days ago and when i check from outside without opening the cover, looks like they have white small bugs inside, im too afraid to open the cover or spray some pesticide on them.. what do i do? Please help
You could use 1 part isopropyl alcohol and 1 part water and spray that on them. That's safer than using an insecticide. Just avoid having the plant in direct sunlight during and after treatment until the water has evaporated, as the sun can burn the plants.
Pretty much until I'm happy with the amount of seed that has germinated. You gradually take it off. Once a good amount of germination has started, remove the lid just slightly to allow fresh air in and then slowly remove until it's completely off. Just be careful you don't leave it closed for too long, as you can pick up fungal issues.
Hi Belinda, we were using a commercial potting mix with a small layer of 1-3mm zeolite on top. We are now trialling a more mineral based potting mix for seedlings that we make (4 parts potting mix, 3 parts zeolite and 3 parts decomposed granite), this will kind of imitate a more natural growing media that Lithops would be found in their habitat. For older Lithops, we would change the potting mix to 2 parts and then 4 parts zeolite and 4 parts decomposed granite. Hope that helps :)
Do you suggest a heat pad under the planter in colder areas, also I’ve seen 1 other video & they seemed to suggest without saying but showing lithops being watered a little more as there planted & during the germination period as well as keeping them covered, is that true? And if so what do you suggest watering them at first before they sprout or do you only suggest watering when there completely dry as you do when there bigger? 😬, Sorry for all the Questions, I bought like 100 seeds and want to do this right. And Thank you for the video, much appreciated!!
The heat pad will definitely help with extra growth. You can water them more when they are young until they go through their first split, which is about 4 or 5 months after germination, then you would decrease the watering 🙂
@soji-yeunmochi-con1162 Hey, that's all good 🙂👍 we use a Succulent and Cacti potting mix. It has much better drainage than other mixes and has been good for Lithops. Hope that helps 👍
I don't have access to those, are those readily mixed? Can I use masonry sand and gravel as water can easily go through it, I'm really sorry for these questions, I'm really a newbie
@soji-yeunmochi-con1162 that's ok. Most nursery/garden centres should have a Succulent and Cacti potting mix. If you can't, then try using washed river sand and gravel will work. If you can add some sort of compost to the sand and gravel, that would be ideal 🙂👍
I pollinate my own and collect the pods. I have an assortment of seed and some other varieties, which we hope to sow soon 🙂 unfortunately I don't sell the seed sorry.

Thank you SO much for the idea of mixing the seeds with sand to distribute them ☺️
Your welcome 😀
Again ! THANK YOU ! 🙏 👍
Your very welcome 😀👍
To this day, late 2023, I haven't seen lithops for sale in Australia except the seeds.
Probably not a lot available atm because they are splitting. We wait until ours have finished splitting before selling them 🙂

Hello, Mick! at what temperature was it grown?
Around 20 to 25 degrees celsius 🙂👍
Hello. Thanks for the video. How often do you water the seedlings?

Hi Ayuri, your welcome! :) Are you in Australia?
Could you please let me know how to make the potting mix? Thank you.
We use 4 parts zeolite, 4 parts crushed granite and 2 parts sifted potting mix 🙂👍
@@mickssucculents Thank you.

Is it better to store the seeds on the fridge or at normal room temperature?
In the fridge is best, as it keeps them fresh for longer 🙂👍
Hello micks! How long do you keep your covers on?

Hi Mick, thanks for the great info! what potting media have you used there?

@@mickssucculents thanks for your reply!
Most people use just rocks and sand basically. Zero organic matter, like potting mix or compost. They easily killed by overwatering
What is your soil mix for sowing the lithops seed?
Hi, 4 parts zeolite, 4 parts crushed granite and 2 parts of sifted potting mix 🙂👍

Lithops seeds u have

My lithops seed got some white molds what should i do??
I would use a fungicide, try using mancozeb. Also you may need to open your lid a bit to allow fresh air in.
@@mickssucculents thank you for your advice
