    I don’t understand why you apologize for rambling on about tricks and tips. I truly enjoy it and never think “when will it end”. I have yet to skip or fast forward one of your videos because I learn so much. Especially being that you live in the same province as I you are insightful! Also I know it hard to find horticultural sand so I have been using coarse multi purpose concrete sand. I rinse till water runs about clear then I leave some water and add hydrogen peroxide to disinfect. Drain and add into soil. But I’m careful how much I add because I’ve noticed sand like you said does stay wet longer and I was adding way to much sand. “Less is more”as they say!

      I have often thought about using the screenings... but worry that it might have something harmful...

      @@PlantzNThings The way you mixed your seeds with sand beforehand and spread it on top was brilliant! I was going to add a layer of sand on top of my seeds but your method is definitely superior. Thanks for the tip about watering them from the bottom... will definitely do both! Hey, thanks alot for the info. I try to look everywhere for genuine lithop seeds. Now i know where to get them. I just wanted to leave a little note. Sadly, owners of the silverhill seed company were murdered. But their long time employees are taking over. It is very heart breaking but im happy there employees continue to fulfill their legacy.

    You’re awesome! Love your long videos. You give a lot of important info . I ordered a little lithops growing kit from a trusted source . I’ll need just some small grow lights . I hear 6500 kelvin and high lumens are important. Do you agree? I ordered a small , goose neck lamp that has LED grow bulbs . But they only have 2500 kelvin . My BF accidentally threw the box away and I don’t know all the specs of the light anymore. Do you think it’s too wimpy for my lithops seedlings ? Thank you 😊

    Great content as always Bill. I am still trying to grow more succulents, but when it starts to snow and blow again I want to go back into hibernation. When temps get to around 10C or higher I like to put the ones that I have outside until the Fall. The way things are going here I am afraid it will be the end of June instead of the normal end of May.
    I have never thought of the sprayer before!!! Do you know how many of the spray bottle thingys I have bought over the years?!?! I think I could have bought 3 or 4 of those 4L sprayers!!

    I have alot of crubmly mortar from a past project. its a mix of dusty sand like stuff and small gravels. would that be okay to mix with compost to use as the soil? it has already been used as mortar so the mortar solidifying effect is all gone its just left over crumbs.

    Bill - I love Lithops! Though I have never grown these from seed, they are generally easy growing and can most definitely withstand droughts once mature. Growing from seeds should be a good challenge. Do you know how long they seeds take to germinate? Also, how long until adult size?

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  5 років тому

      They start sprouting in 5 or 6 days... and continue for a few months... They will take a few years to reach mature years... the timeframe varies due to the growing condition.

    • @PlantzNThings

      Hmmm good Question... I think growing from seed you get more plants... Buying them individually can get Very pricey... also there is a lot of variety in each plant not one is exactly the same it seems... so from seed you see so many different patterns and colours...

    Hi, I have a question. Is there a certain of the year time that you plant lithops? And do the seeds need to be planted right away after ive harvested them? I heard that they needed to be planted soon after harvesting. Hopefully u can help me. Thanks and love ur videos!!

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  2 роки тому

      I don't know for certain. But it's always best to plant seeds soon after harvest for best results. But I'm sure waiting 2 or 3 months with seeds you collected would be just fine. If you buy seed online you can't be certain when they were harvested.. so to sooner you plant the better... personally I like to plant the seeds in the fall or winter. So the tender little babies don't get blasted with too much sun and heat... they still need it bright and warm... but not intense... that being said.. I've planted them in the summer and it was the same results
