Full length drawers or open storage for baskets/bins, otherwise just put a big door on the outside. 😆

I just consider the RV mattress like a box spring, so I put a 4" memory foam topper on it with that cover that came with the bed as a mattress pad.
    Really comfortable for me! 👍😴

Pro's and cons for sure!! I used a 4' memory foam topper for a bit but quickly realized it wasn't cutting it. My factory mattress was WAY too hard and the foam simply deformed and still was too hard. I went with a Seally postrepedic plus without the warranty for $1000 from a local mattress shop that removed my old mattress for me and installed this one for me.

We went with the Wilderness RV Montana Hybrid mattress. It's fantastic. It's pretty dang close in comfort to our Beautyrest Black in our house. Only thing to keep in mind is these premium RV mattresses are HEAVY. Another reason we went with the Wilderness is the height of the mattress. It's 10" which is the limit for what we can fit. Our bed is in a slide, when the slide is in the end of the mattress fits under the dresser. Barely. Actually it touches, so we put a piece of teflon sheet across the end of the bed so it glides under and doesn't damage anything.

We opted to swap the rock hard mattress our newer TT came with in favor of the mattress from our first TT which was much lighter and thinner. We just added a memory foam topper and good to go.

The concern I always have no matter what the mattress to use is air circulation to help prevent any mold/moisture buildup in between the bottom of the mattress and the wood or whatever the mattress is resting on. As always enjoy your videos

Thanks for the great info. Never thought about a heavier mattress adding more tongue weight to the travel trailer or the access under the bed with the factory struts.

Made me feel better knowing you have 30 nights. I felt like we're barely using our RV and we have about 45 nights in the last 2 years with 8 more coming next week. I forget the brand bit we got an 8in memory foam mattress off amazon that was only 24lbs since we're worried about weight. Once we get the truck we're going to upgrade all of the mattresses and get a topper for the dinette bed

I prefer my bed elevated. With my back and knees it’s easier to get in and out of bed for me.
Can you please do a video showing handicap accessories for your RV? Does anyone include grab bars and chair height toilets for people with disabilities to enjoy the camper better?

I bought a regular queen size 12" gel and wacked 6" off of the head it's taller but weight is the same so struts work ATS which is good because engine is under bed cost was under 300.00

We switched to a WildernessRV mattress… yes it is much heavier… I also put in a pair of 200 pound gas struts… replaced the hinges with a heavy duty piano hinge … and through bolted the strut attachment points instead of screws. I also added extra bracing for the bed frame. Yes this was a fair amount of work, but it was very worth it. I see no reason to spend the kind of money we spend on a decent 5the wheel, and the truck capable of pulling it …only to sleep on the horrible torture device the RV manufacturers calls a mattress.

TBH, the lowering of bed height sucks. Having the bed closer to waist height is best for, ummm... bedroom sports. We ended up getting a 3" Costco topper and even that was too much weight for the stock struts, so I bought upgrades and they were so strong, it separated the hinges apart from the base. Granted, Keystone only used flimsy door hinges with just two shallow wood screws on each side. So I installed a huge 1/4" piano hinge and through bolted it. It works great now and in terms of sports, I always win. =P

The mattress I got in our RV was of cheap quality. We priced the mattress and the cost was 379.00. The mattress cover was of polyester which burn your body during the summer
We also washer the comforter the to got it to dried. When it came out of dryer is was in pieces and a portion was melted. It was nothing but a 90% plastic comforter. I took the pieces back to the RV seller.

When you're in your 20's the stock matress is fine, when you approach 40 and 50's, you're getting a better matress, it's that simple. If your towing a newer rig with a newer diesel, 100lbs is not going to matter much over comfort. There are alot of options in memory foam as you mentioned, and thats what I went with. They come vacuumed in a small box and not hard to get in and setup at all.
But yes, in my opinion, it's the overall cost of "cheaper parts", not just the mattress, but the bed components including the frame and struts that could very easily be built better, which costs more. At the prices that new units are up to now, this should not be a problem for RV companies to build better at all. YEs, I have a 2021 41 ft toy hauler, so I'm aware of todays cost as well as the build quality. And this is my 3rd unit since my 20's, so I do consider myself experienced and for more than just weekends too.
I say enjoy the ride and be comfortable, that's what you bought it for, is to enjoy and have fun!

Good afternoon JD. I love you’re channel and have been subscribed for a long time. I was wondering if I could get some advice on what sort of used RV’s I should look into and some I should be cautious of. I’m 24 and my company wants to send me to Louisiana to work. I live here in Texas and looking for RV’s has been a bit more challenging than I expected. Any sort of advice would help out and I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much !

We went with a Park Meadow pocketed coil mattress from Mattress Insider. This is not a paid endorsement. We have had ours for over 8 years and still sleeps better than the name brand at home. The confusing part is every you tube RV channel will tell you the one they were provided with is the best but what if they bought it with there own money would they have that one?
