The Keystone Cougar and Jayco White Hawk haven't historically been considered comparable products. But, after some recent updates I came to realize they've really come to find themselves head-to-head in nearly the exact same market segment.
They accomplish many of the same goals, but often in extremely different ways. And of course each has their unique little quirks and features found lacking in the other.
This video comparing these two premium "Ultralite Plus" travel trailers here at Haylett RV is quite long. But if you're serious about making a purchase of one or the other, then you'll no doubt appreciate Josh the RV Nerd's in-depth look at these two stellar brands!!
Here are some links to the two specific RVs used as a reference during this video:
* Cougar 34TSB • 2021 Cougar 34TSB Trip...
* White Hawk 29BH • Carpetless & Hot/Cold ...
They're drastically different models. I wasn't worried about similar floor plans since we're discussing general brand differences

You are the only one helping with all the info and your personality is perfect
Josh, I’ve said it many times. You are the master of RV reviews. Now that you are doing the comparisons has brought it to a whole new level. The time and energy you put into everyone of your videos is phenomenal!!!
We can’t thank you enough.
TY. Glad these have been so well received because holy cow... they EAT UP MY TIME lol
Yeah! What he said😉
Last week "I was told my 15 minutes are too long. Are my vid's too long??"
This Week "Here's a 43 minute video. Enjoy!"
Troll Level Master Achieved.
Seriously though, excellent videos! 20 min's 40 min's, doesn't matter. The time and $$ these save me from making phone calls and physically visiting local dealer after dealer is immeasurable. Very much appreciated!! You teach so much important info. Priceless!!!
HAHAHA -- not intentional. I have received a lot of people this year telling me "your vids are too long man"
I really personally feel like a SERIOUS buyer would want all the extra info we provide
And when I asked I got 100% confirmation of that from our Haylett Nation Viewers & our very vocal RV Nerd Herd :)
@@JoshtheRVNerd // I’m only 5’3” & I know 1st hand short isn’t appreciated = no love given even though it’s considered cute 😔😞
@@SamuelJMartinIII You're not short. *You're gravity friendly.*
@@JoshtheRVNerd do not change your videos! There are a lot of us out here who are learning a great deal from them. And for us about to enter in RV full-time and a newbie, your videos are priceless!
Longer simply means more valuable info and smarter decisions for we consumers!! Ty Josh for your commitment!! You are truly appreciated
I am looking to live full time in a travel trailer and in my research I had narrowed it down to either a Jayco Whitehawk or a Keystone Cougar and as if by fate, I stumbled on to this video! This was SUPER helpful to me. The details that you've put into this video are the details that I have been looking for to help me in my search. Awesome! Thank you
The video is SLIGHTLY dated now but still pretty much on point. Which of the two would you choose if you had to say one or the other?
@@JoshtheRVNerd I prefer the bedroom of the Whitehawk but overall like the feel a little better of the Cougar. Im going to look at some today! Unfortunately not your place, I live in NC.
@@rachelshedd6142 what did you choose?
lmao "crucified for being sexist" I laughed hysterically, well played sir, well played
I know that this was put out awhile ago but, ou've gone and done it again. Every time I think I've narrowed my choices down, you show another great RV.
TY Brad :)
Which of the two brands speaks to you a little more
@@JoshtheRVNerd, originally I was strongly considering a Lance or a Jayco, probably still am but haven't been in a Cougar yet. We'll probably be buying one that's a couple of years old with little use to let someone else have that big initial depreciation hit. Thanks for your informative honest reviews, much appreciated even if it makes it harder to choose :)
@@JoshtheRVNerd I love the looks of the Cougar 25RDS and Cougar 33RLI !!!
‘Bob Seagar like rock’...another one of your great one liners 😂👍🏻
STRONG AGAINST THE WINDDDDDD
My wife and I wish that you could've been our sales person. Great info and your funny as well.
Josh: This is a GREAT way to compare two very good brands of RV's from different manufactures or divisions of the same company. With literally hundreds of very similar looking towable campers to choose from, a non-professional full time shopper does not have a chance to make the correct decision for their particular situation, wants and needs! This then, really is very helpful.
I would like to suggest one additional piece of information that would make the review process complete. In the "Show More" Section, add a Link to a document that lists the differences and similarities in two columns. No detail. Just the List of Items. The details can be found at a document listed timestamp of the associated video!
Now this will take considerable time to accurately cross-link the two sources of information. And we, your Subscribers, all know and love you as the guy in front of the camera! This extra step cannot reduce your on-camera time and variety! Therefore, this documentation must be handled by one of your secretarial staff!
Keep them coming buddy!🎯
Solid idea. Ty
Just bought a Jayco Eagle HT were pending since bought on a saturday. I'm so excited, had one when young traveled in the Good Sam's club, always parked where hook-ups in a pull-through space. No backing up when new at this, my husband was a truck driver so use pull-throughs request when making a reservation or get a camper that has a nice big one an older man, more experience and control.
You’re doing great, very helpful. Keep up the good work. My wife and I might even drive from the west coast to buy an RV from you.
TY Jon! Plenty have done it before you :)
If we could only take the best of both of these rigs and meld them together for the ultimate perfect rig!
Then folks would say "it costs too much" lol
That's the trick -- when you only have $X to play with it's a game of picking and choosing which features you think will provide the most attraction from a prospective buyer
Thank you so much for all the info. I come to your channel first, for information on all RV's. Please keep it coming, while we may not all be able to purchase from you, you provide information that I wish all other dealers were as diligent in sharing. It gives a consumer confidence that you are not just trying to "make a sale" but truly educate your customer. BTW I really enjoyed the tour of the Coachmen RV factory. Thanks again.
TY Maria! Remember we don't care where you go or who you see -- it doesn't matter where you get your appetite.. just so long as you come home for dinner LOL :)
Great job. Love watching your videos!!!
Josh - I always look to your videos for tremendous insight, details and common sense. It is because of your videos that I'm able to learn and "zero" in on the unit(s) that are best suited for our family! Love them and keep them coming!
Ty Andre :)
Great commentary Josh ! Loved every minute of it. You are a natural with this stuff and with your humor you put it over the top. As far as I am concerned you are the best in the business with your knowledge by far!! keep it up I'll be watching.!
You're the best. Thx so much Tim. You keep watching and I'll keep cranking them out!!
I never miss a new video. Tech info and Manuf updates are always changing. Sincere appreciation for keeping us up to date.
Thx for watching Donald!!
The frozen water story. 2019 29BHS, heated water hose, heat wrapped water connection into the ground and it was covered. The heated water hose does not allow the cover outside on the camper to close. Left the water on to drip but only cold not hot. The plastic connectors in the panel froze for 4 days. No leaks, no broken fittings. I was using a 30lb tank of fuel every 2 days heating at 70 it was so cold. I had a line froze this year before I winterized and no issues again.
Really appreciate this video and all the great info you provided! Helped us greatly! Thank you! Love how you had fun with it!
Ty Regina! We have several more of these recorded for you to enjoy and THOUSANDS of individual RV walk thrus
Recently found your channel. I appreciate your tours, information and now comparisons. Thank you!
Thank YOU for joining the #HaylettNation
Love the un-edited, occasional tongue tied, real world way you do your videos. Keep up the good work.
:) I try to be genuine and fair. I'm a chubby dad bod guy who is losing most of his hair and getting grays where I still have it left. I'm ok with the skin I'm in. This is me. Thanks for hanging out :)
Appreciate this type of comparison. Thanks Josh.
Wow! that was really good, a practical compare/contrast between two rigs can give anyone food for thought. Several details I never thought about, thanks for taking the time to post this video recording.
Glad it was helpful! Subscribe and follow along if you haven't already. We have more of these comparisons in our library and will be adding more (once the weather warms back up lol)
I think you do a great job. And along with the laughs 😎, I appreciate the time you take to share all the information with us. Thank you. 😊
Always our pleasure! Thx for tuning into another LONG video :)
Really enjoy your videos, very informative , well delivered, enjoy the humor! Practical , we are doing research to
decide which brand/style/design to buy for our retirement trailer , Thank you
Doing a GERAT job Josh! Keep it up! God bless.
As usual, loved the video!!
Thank you from West GA! I've been researching rvs and your videos are by far some of the most informative!
Awesome! Thank you!
Appreciate for making us more informed consumer man you're great I love your videos and a heck of a lot
Awesome comparison videos like always 🙂! Keep up those great videos.
Thanks! Will do!
Which one did you like better? The Cat or the Hawk?
Thoroughly enjoyed that video, Josh! Great editing. Your hard work shows.
Ty Gary :)
thank you for he side by side review of these two. we happen to be currently looking at both of those two lines and you answered a bunch of questions that i had
Awesome! Glad to hear it. Footage like this takes a LOT of extra time to put together so glad to know it's appreciated :)
Thank you for your jolly disposition. You gave me lots to think about.
Very informative 👏 👌. We had our search narrowed down to these two. Thank you so much for your time!
Great review. I love the detail that you provide in your reviews. Keep up the good work 👏
Thank you Mark
Really needed this review, thank you so much for your time and effort. Best reviews on UA-cam. In the Cougar/White Hawk camp.
Our pleasure!
Josh I just subscribed but I have watched many of your vids and you are the man! The master in RV Reviews! I have learned so much from your videos. I own an older ('13) Cougar but love to learn all the new features and options as well. Saying hi from Vancouver, Canada! Keep up the great vids!
Hans thx so much for taking time just to share something kind!
Cheers mate :)
You're a huge help! I'm wanting to full time an RV and your info and attention to details and specs is immensely helpful!
Ty!!
I really appreciate your unbiased side by side comparisons. I look forward to more. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
So much to unpack. All of it good. Great information for those considering purchase you really give them a lot to work with to make good choices upfront. I really wish I had known about you and watched more of your stuff before my purchase. That being said I’m still very happy with what I have and I appreciate seeing the tech and getting insights for my own mods and upgrades.
Yeah they're quite similar on the surface, but I try to get a little more detailed & sometimes it's splitting hairs in these comparisons
But if it were my lots-and-lots-of-money being spent, then I know I'd want those tiny details
Totally appreciate your videos⭐️ I have an RV that I love but I’m entertained by your videos and I learn things to boot!👍🏻
What do you have??
2 years later...so informative! Appreciate all your knowledge. Thank you 😊
Good job! I enjoy the information you include in the comparison vids.
Our pleasure! Did one brand or the other "Speak" to you a little more loudly?
Thanks for the video!! Newbie and shopping, great to see all of this explained so well!
Welcome aboard! :)
Thanks for all the efferdent, put into the info you gave to us, it was a lot. Keep up the good work. Thanks again. Take care, stay safe.
My pleasure!! Thank you Debora
Josh this a great video. I’ve never seen a dealership do a comparison this informative. Def not bashing either manufacturers but showing differences. Just because it’s different doesn’t mean it’s wrong.
Tim, you definitely "Get it" for lack of a better way to say it. Appreciate all the viewership for all this time. Stay tuned -- more to come!!
Great video Josh appreciate all your work on this. Both awesome trailers, interesting to hear each manufacturers history and how they developed their product over the years. I fell in love with the Cougar about 5 years ago and their recent upgrade to zero degree package and Auto Leveling make me a future Cougar owner.
Can't fault you for it. Cougar has gone up in cost a bit in recent years, but the "upscaling" of their models is undeniable
I really like this Head to Head comparison between models Josh. Look forward to seeing other brands and model comparison. A real plus to educate future RV buyers. Thanks, bill in Florida
More coming soon!
Did you have a favorite between these two?
You are the best Josh I really appreciate your videos doing research before buying our first (and hopefully last) RV so the education is priceless!
TY Beverly! Some handy tips here for first time potential owners: ua-cam.com/video/DO3u1Bk-rbE/v-deo.html
Great job. After watching this I am happy with my choice of WhiteHawk.
I don't think either is wrong. I am impressed however with how much White Hawk has stepped up in the past few seasons
Omgosh the ending to this video is priceless 🤣 😂 😆
Proof I watch your videos till the end...because I get smarter with each one. Thanks for all your knowledge you share.
lol -- TY Pam :)
I am learning so much from your videos. I'm preparing for full time and deciding on a travel trailer.
Ty for joining us Tina :)
Thank you, Josh. Very good job.
Great comparison between 2 of the travel trailers I’ve been thinking about. Thanks !
If you need more info, then give our team a shout. Always happy to help in return for the fair shake at working with you!
Great video, thanks josh! You have a wonderful knowledge of both of these brands!
Ty :)
Uncle Josh, we SOOOO appreciate all the hard work you do in these comparison videos; though, to be honest, it makes the decision process more difficult! In a good way, of course! It's always nice seeing how diff mfg approach the same prob differently. Have leaned toward the Cougar product, but, your comparison makes me re-think some of my impressions.
SUGGESTION: Would love seeing a hitch comparison for TT and 5er, if possible. For newbies (or relative newbies), the hitch can be confusing. Maybe, show good, better, best hitch options for diff size (smaller, medium and higher wgt) units, which might benefit (or not) from sway control, etc. You do a fanDAMNtastic job of this type of comparison (good vs bad, er NOT so bad). We learn a TON from you!
Keep up the GREAT work, Josh. Y'all Be Safe!
TY TY TY for all the kind words
Appreciate the suggestions as well!
Great content, keep up the good work!
Appreciate it!
You're very entertaining as well as informative. Thank you, Josh!
I think I like the Cougar better
TY John! :)
Great job Josh. You’re definitely helping me narrow in on my RV purchase
Great to hear! Always happy to educate in return to a fair shake at working with you when you're ready. If you haven't subbed, then I would recommend it. I have a lot more of these comparisons planned!
Really enjoy your reviews as a learning platform. There's a ton of different things to consider and learning about them from your candid reviews helps
Glad you like them!
Cougar wins on the kitchen. I love the sink island. So much counter space. Kinda separates the areas more. Love it
Very informative indepth video Josh. Thanks for taking the time. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Fantabulous information and expertly presented.
Splendifferous repsonse! :)
Thank you! I’ve actually been comparing both these trailers for the past two months trying to deciding which I liked over the other and today I finally made my decision thanks to your video! You provided so much more useful information then what you get from the manufacturers websites! Great job!
Glad we could help. We'd definitely love the opportunity to earn your business in return for our efforts naturally. Doesn't matter if you don't live locally -- give us a shot and you'd be surprised what we could make happen for you!
Curious -- which brand did you choose and what tipped the scales for you?
@@JoshtheRVNerd I like the floorplans of the Couger more then the Whitehawk and I'd heard that Jayco has better quality so I was torn between, but your very detailed video made me feel better about going with the Keystone. I'm in New Jersey and I don't mind doing business with someone long distance but it bothers me to buy something so expensive without being able to walk inside of it first. Thank you!
FANTABULOUS!! I have been researching for NINE months, & yours is one of THEE BEST RV research centers & video's on UA-cam CERTAINLY the most entertaining I've ever found-I live in Illinois & am planning to go fulltime Nomad. Thank you for your efforts you gave cured my information overkill!
Wow, thank you!
He’s Great at his job, I like him a lot 😉
Josh, my husband and I love your videos. We have been wanting to upgrade from our 2014 Eagle for a while now but inventory is still scarce in Florida due to Covid shortages so we haven't been able to walk through anything. Thanks for filling the void for us with your videos. We are REALLY looking forward to your video of the soon to be released Eagle 31 MB 5th wheel! It ticks all of our boxes but need a good video demo to be sure. We might even consider a road trip to purchase from you in the spring...we shall see!
I'm excited to see that one roll thru as well. It looks to be an amazing offering.
I was never a superfan of their 30.5MBOK previous offering in that segment. I think this 31MB will blow it away.
I LOVE Josh!! I'm from Michigan but transplanted to Texas in 2006. I faithfully watch and listen to his videos as superior info. Nearing retirement, I will purposely come to Hayletts for our new final rv. Yes all the way from Texas, and only to deal with Josh. Thank you Josh, your hard work earns my trust in a someone shaky mistrust field!!
Well thank y’all!!
Thanks for putting this together. I appreciate the time this must have taken.
TY Matt :)
Great job. Love your videos.
TY Terry :)
You are Super Fabulous!!! Just LOVE all the info on your videos!!! Great JOB!!!
Ty :)
Excellent In-depth review and comparison! Would love to see a playlist of reviews where are you compare different manufactures strengths and weaknesses, these are very helpful! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I'll see if I can work in some more brand battles
Hard to compare from a top-level MFG vs MFG as some brands like forest river allow each of their brands to operate virtually independently so there's not an over "DNA" you can trace
Thank you for the comparison, I never ever would have thought a Jayco compared to a Cougar, this was eye opening
Hopefully this year I can get some more of the “battle of the brands” done
13:00 You are dead on with the stability of manual stabilizer jacks vs. electric ones. We have the electric ones on our ‘16 324CG Outback and even though they’re easy, they simply do not work as great. Worse still, is that Keystone installed them on a C-channel below the I-beam to make room for under belly items (like gas lines) and because of this the C-channel brackets flex and allow you to feel bouncing. I installed sone SteadyFast arms and it didn’t minimize it very much. I called and spoke to the owner and he said it’ll hard pressed to get a solid foundation feel because of those C-channel extensions. FWIW, SteadyFast is great hardware and the owner is super responsive, so this is not a negative review of those.
You are the king of RVs! A wealth of information that helps all of us be informed buyers.
Wow.. TY :)
Great video again. Really liking them.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing :)
Thank You Josh!!!
Josh…I’m in the process of research for our first TT purchase…your videos are my go-to! The attention to detail, honest evaluations, and humor have made you the number one “TT Guy” online! My wife and have been able to narrow down our choices to about 6 or just based off your reviews. I wish there was a “Josh the Pickup Truck Nerd” to help us with that choice! Keep up the good work and Thank You for being a shinning light in the Sales World…more salesmen and companies should go to Josh U to take lessons!
Excellent presentation. Now I know which two types of Trailers I would love to purchase.
Learning so much about my new rig (a Cougar) from you, thanks!!!
My Pleasure, Michele! Would love it if you took a moment to drop us a quick review at bit.ly/3sQtSlV in return for the helping hand!
@@JoshtheRVNerd you bet!
I Just recently got into RV sales and the videos you make have really helped. Thank you for making them
have a great season!
Good Job, Josh. Loved the detailed comparison and make-up mirror mention. 😁 Screaming like a Banshee. 💃🏻🤣
Well alllllllllllrighty then! :)
Josh, your knowledge and expertise is nice so I can study up on what trailers are ideal for me when I go to buy. Thanks. Continue the sound effects when describing stuff. Funny shit.
I appreciate the time you took to make this video. There was a lot covered that I would of never thought about,so this was very helpful
You're very welcome!
2 Years later and I still found something I didn't know before. Thanks Josh.
Man I still learn new stuff every day
Thank you for this one Josh, Im leaning toward the Cougar.
What made the difference for you
Just in case I get the urge to get some cinder blocks, I appreciate that knowing which trailer I should purchase for those impulse purchases. Thanks for dodging the rain, Josh.
Thx for watching, Janice :)
Love your videos, very informative and your pretty funny! Thank you!
TY Melinda :)
Another excellent educational video and I'm not a "first time owner". We sold our Grand Design and are looking for a higher quality unit and you are talking about two mfgs. and models that we are considering. Thank you for taking the time to do these. Time wise.... the way I see it, this is a major purchase and homework is very necessary. A trip to Coldwater to work with Gene is coming soon. Thanks Josh for you in depth lessons.
Thanks so much not just for watching but also for allowing my family's team the opportunity to work with you. It truly means a lot!
Well done as usual. Thank you.
Thanks again!
Great video. I'm looking at the premium market and this helped tremendously.
Awesome! Thx for watching Matt. We are here to assist anytime you’re ready to enter the market!
Best RV information source. From California!
Wow, thanks! Which camper did you like better?
I’m a Cougar 22RBSWE kinda guy. No window and large fresh water tank.
Damn Josh! Stop making great and informative videos please. I thought I had one or two models picked.....not another two on the list. Thanks.
😂 sorry? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I appreciate your honesty and that you point out equivalent features and bonus differences between 2 similar RV models. You give fair reviews of your RVs, are very thorough, and explain differences from a "personal preference" perspective, rather than a bias. The only thing that I wish were mentioned were weight and even ballpark price or something like, "the cougar will generally cost a few thousand more (which is pretty insignificant when you are financing a big rig like these models). Thank you for your time, information, and integrity.
Thx Ember - cool name Btw :)
As this was more of a brand call brand comparison things like specs didn’t seem as fitting vs one of our usual actual trailer tours
But truly appreciate the constructive idea!!
0:20 100 percent true for me at least. I watched every single vide on the WolfPup 16BHS on UA-cam TWICE before purchasing (watched yours FOUR times each because they were that much better than the others!) :P
TY for the feedback. I pour a TON of time into this stuff. Good to know it's appreciated

@@JoshtheRVNerd go
glad i bought the cougar , but I did not know how much better of a deal I got
Another great vid: lots of important info. Comparison of mfg is super interesting; as well as back story. My interest tend toward boondocking features, so solar info is primo. Funny ending.
Thx for watching, Dennis :)
We are still just rolling out this new series of comparisons. As more RVs roll in it's providing me with more opportunities for comparison. So stay tuned!! Great stuff coming :)
I like the White Hawk 100% better!
Exceptional Video!! Don’t know when we will be buying. What we are sure of, it will be with Haylett RV.
Ty Susan :)
Very good video! Thank you!
Hey Josh I echo all the positive reviews about YOU! buddy as mentioned by others, especially your ability to provide all of us with an unbiased review that clearly explains everything THEE most information than any other RV review I've watched. With that said, I and all of us who are considering a purchase of either of these two RV brands would like to see more detailed information about their holding tanks [especially the black water flush system - the worst job to do during any camping trip] and the water heater; both capacity and ability to keep water hot during the use of the shower - plus - the size of the shower. By that I mean a lot of showers in other RV's end up being too small to be able to move around as you need to do to get a good refreshing shower. Looking forward to your reply and hopefully a new video add-on / or Part 2 to this one: DiDo
I second this response! I too wonder which brands of RV's have the best plumbing for all seasons, especially which are the best winter setups/ packages & for hot seasons! The biggest showers & shower-tub combos especially because it seems like 90% of RV's have shower only! Some of us can't live without a tub combo to soak in a nice hot bath with some essential oil & epsom salt after a long hard day of work! Can't manage that in a shower. Also which have the instant hot water heaters & the macerating toilets? Residential sized appliances for families & Which brands has the best quality family style furniture for convertability & durability & all those great things...
Thank you so much for all your amazing videos! 👏 I subscribed & watch your videos often, I hope you can get to a few of my responses so I can figure out some things in question before we go buy a newer RV for our work travels. We need all weather durability, 1/2 ton towable for F-150 truck, sleeping space for 2-4 people +1 blue heeler dog, we would prefer shower-tub combo (large bathroom & kitchen counter, cabinets & appliances, with the most possible storage- no nook or cranny wasted!) Another question, is there a 1/2 ton RV that has a small spot for at least a 2 in 1 combo washer- dryer unit? 🤔
Much appreciated all the videos and information you help provide all of us across the states! 🇺🇸 Thank you so much for all your hard work & keeping it 💯% real & also staying lively, family friendly & funny too! 😁
