You ABSOLUTELY made the right decision not to go super long and introduce a whole series of issues many are experiencing. We’ve been at 34’ for several years. Would not want to deal with longer.
I too started with a travel trailer and moved up to a small 5th wheel, I found myself watching your video and say yes, yes as you went along. Good video, lots of food for thought.
It seems like you are in a Goldilocks scenario. You had a house, Too big, too much, stuck in one spot. Then you tried different options, Van, fun but small. Roof Tent, really small, travel trailer, great, but started get cramped with the dogs. So hopefully this is just right! It is your home! Find what is comfortable for you, your lifestyle, and your work. Have fun with your travels and life!
While traveling the East Coast, a good overnight camping option is Huntington Beach State Park on US 17 in South Carolina. It's just South of Murrells Inlet and 80 miles North of Charleston. It's directly on the Atlantic Ocean, with great restaurants and lots of historical venues nearby. Your videos are always informative and entertaining. Safe travels !!
God Bless you both & your travels❤! I'm 2-3 years away from semi-retirement. And my #1 choice is 33' 5th wheel, that I plan to tow with a 1 ton diesel. So I felt like I was listening to Kindred-Spirit Cousins, as you described your upgrade to your 5th wheel set-up. I'm a widow, with 3 Furkids & 3 SlitherKids. Being able to accommodate my Boa Constrictors was a deal-breaker consideration for me...they're my Spirit Animals😂 So I was glad find someone that has had success with a 5th wheel rig like I've been dreaming of. I look forward to reviewing your library of videos. To learn more about what to expect when me & the kids can finally hit the road. Be Safe & Happy Travels🎉, Candy😊, Tauo, Killian & Dixie 🐾; Raoul, Rosalita & Seraphine 🐉
I think you needed more grease on the ball to make the TT easier to remove.:). I think is it funny that you say the 5th is more manueverable but you are more cautious of driving in tight spots. Seems like it wouldn't be an issue, as much.
This latest rig is just wonderful-that floor plan is dynamite! looks likes a calm comfy home. Brings the outside in. Depending on where you are the views are magnificent. 😂
I went the other way. I went for a 37 foot toy hauler to a 25 foot class. C. The reason was our changed. It’s a lot like a hammer; the right tool for the right job
Your math is skewed on figuring that 5th wheel's length overlapping w/ truck. 54 ft combined length individually doesn't go down 4 feet hooked up... That 4 ft overhang overlaps w/ 4ft of the truckbox... 54 ft would reduce to 46 ft "hooked up' based on that statement...
Great overview of some the pros and cons of various rv types and sizes. After many years of part time rviing with many different rvs I agree 100% with your observations. It really boils down to how you use it, and what you value most. Good job.
Great video and size does matter in all things RVing. Which is why we got the Alliance Avenue 32RLS since we are mostly without kids now. It's size suits us and we can hit most state parks also. Thanks for sharing.
We have a 24 ft fifth wheel . It is an older rv Forrest River classic, super light, but they still are making 27 ft and Grand design has one also. Our height 12.9, weight 8000 lb.. We have a diesel 250 . We don’t even know the RV is back there.
Great review of the two different types of RVs. Each person needs to decide what and how they intend to use the RV. We have a 40ft toy hauler with a small garage under the bedroom. We cycle, so we carry 4 bicycles. Usually stay in RV parks, but discover the area outside the park on our bicycles. Take you time and watch great informative videos such as this one.
Enjoyed the comparison between your rigs. We are only using our camper a few weeks a year bur we went from 36' 5th wheel to 19 ft tag along. Like you said, we are all different with different stages of life. I'm glad this rig is working out for you.
Luv your video and your pets. I find this a great comparison video. I take along 2 dogs and a cat everytime we head out. Space is precious when adding 2 crates and litter box. We aren't full time otherwise 5th wheel will be on our wishlist. We had same issue with the trailer unhitching. Tried several method until I found one that was simple and just about guaranteed to work. Safe trip and thanks for sharing your moments.
Those dual rear slide outs will really increase the living space in your fifth wheel! Congratulations on the new RV! 30 feet seems to be a sweet spot on length, with more wanted while camping and less wanted while driving! And it is a lower weight than the maximum length 40 foot long trailers, that is important in the weight, fuel mileage, tire wear, and more!
Strange on your remarks on maneuverability of a travel trailer verses 5th wheel, I had a 30 foot KZ trailer verses my 32 foot Cardinal 5th wheel, the 5th did not kick over as quick or easy as the travel trailer, even rubbed my truck box on a narrow provincial park with 1 foot deep dishes, backed both in same spot I had to really cut over more on the 5th then travel trailer
We just picked up our new north point 310RTLS, and yes no doubt I “feel” a trailer finally. The truck I would say is at it maximum or close as I want it to be! The acceleration is awful and it pulls into 5th gear much sooner!! We went from 6100 loaded TT to 13,XXX unloaded. Makes huge difference!! 2022 ram 3500 with 4118 payload, and will use every bit of it!! Glad I have 50 gallon tank!!!!
enjoyed the video and formatting. As women can attest, size does matter...and we can tell. I can relate to the length and weight and realizing, OH yah, I can feel that. Glad Chris is adjusting to it and getting comfortable. It will take time and more time will be more confidence. Merci
I enjoyed this video so much, thank you! We’re in a super nimble travel trailer for our first rig right now and working our way toward going full-time and accommodating animals while we do that. I think we’ll go fifth wheel for that transition, and your video really helped me understand the pros and cons for those choices. And the “I’m not pregnant! I know what you all are thinking” made me laugh so much! (I’m 34 and child free, and I always feel like I have to caveat “surprises” with my family 😂)
We had 2 travel trailers and then got a fifth wheel.so much better in every way. Driving in high wind is not a constant white knuckle terror. We got a Reese goosebox. Even though it is 3000 lbs heavier, we get better gas mileage.
I think if you would have gone with a mid profile 5th wheel vs the full profile would have been a better transition between the TT and Full Profile 5er.
If you’re traveling through Pennsylvania this year, most of the state parks have at least electric only sites and some with some full hookups. We’ve been to some that have sites big enough for your rig.
👍 I would look into it more if we had a long bed truck, but with a short bed we like the automatic slider. Seen and heard of too many accidentally truck cab hits. We just go to so many unknown and new places.
I'm still on the fence. We traded in our old tt for a good used 5vr a couple years ago. I will admit a couple things. The 5vr pulls better and has a little more storage. Overall though. The tt was nice and served it's purpose without issue. Cheaper on fuel as well. Both within inches of each other. 34 foot. 1 5vr plus is my rod storage being inside the front. I use 2 inch pvc pipe and some electrical stand off straps to mount to the ceiling of the front tunnel. Works great. Not sure why. But I think the tt was easier to heat and cool also.
I've towed bumper pull trailers, gooseneck trailers, and fifth wheel trailers. I can make a 180 degree turn in a gooseneck or fifth wheel in the length of the trailer...not easy, because it requires a couple of jacknife turns, so you must watch the cab and trailer closely.
Have been in one of those older parks in Ft Myers and also in Pasadena with our 33' 5th wheel and many gyrations to get in and out of the sites. Now have downsized to 27' travel trailer and much easier to maneuver.
Great insights! We started with a 16' Scamp (13' living space) and it was a great size except the bed was too small. We upgraded to a Bigfoot fifth wheel (20' long) which was a terrific size and good space for us but we never used it! We're not full time so the fact that it just sat in our driveway made us really sad. We sold her last summer and just picked up a pop up truck camper! We went from small to a little bigger to smallest yet! LOL We're hoping the truck camper seems easy to just get up and go for a couple nights or a long weekend. But we'll see how we do with us and two dogs inside! LOL Thanks again for your valuable insights!
Thanks for that video we are actually in a 33’ Grand Design and have been fulltime since 2018 in it. Going to be looking at an ORV 24rls in Tampa next week. Your video gave us some insight as we have never lived in a travel trailer. With the Lippert frames which both companies (GD and Alliance) were told not to travel with full tanks by Lippert. Has Alliance done something different in this regard? If so, will take another look at them. As to hitching on uneven ground when truck is not even to hitch…..trust me, have had some moments of worry when we could not hitch or unhitch with fifth wheel either. Just love your living space I wish they came built this way, it’s perfect!
In almost 45+ years of rv-n and everything from a tent to. 34’ Class A if we learned anything, it was no one rv / size fits everyone or all periods of life. We are now back to a 30’ ORV travel trailer. It’s what fits us now. 2-3 years from now ???
That’s good you like the new Rv even though I have a fith wheel I don’t like it as well as my trailer and my motor home the stairs are hard for my older parents and and even my wife. I definitely don’t like the center island as it just takes up floor space I would like to buy a new Rv but they are hard to find with out the center islands
Great video. My wife and I did 2 years in a van like you had before. We now have 2 kids and are planning to go full time again. A van is out of the question, but I am leaning towards a trailer. This video will help us decide.
That is funny, just when you said you had more news.. I started wondering if... and then you said no you're not pregnant. Anyway nice comparison to the TT.
Just camping I’m going with a tt maybe living in one guess fifth wheel would be better. I’ve seen a lot of campers towing fifth wheel’s have trouble with height in some parks
Seems like you all made the right decision for you moving to the 5th wheel. Did you consider staying with an Outdoors RV 5TH wheel or did the Alliance sponsorship make this a no brainer? How does the quality compare between the two? Thanks for any insight you can provide.
Great video! Really informative on the pros and cons of a travel trailer vs a 5th wheel. I love that new rig of yours but I don’t know if we would be able to do what you do with yours. We are finishing our vintage trailer restoration this year and have two trips planned but we think of when we retire what we might want to upgrade to. The 5th wheel would be perfect for snowbirds wanting to not own two houses. That comment at the end. “We have some news” Chris should have kept everyone thinking before saying. “ I know what you’re thinking”. You were right I immediately thought mr stork was paying you a visit.
I would love to have an Alliance...our dream. I know y'all will love it. I can't wait to hear about your new baby! Best wishes ans safe travels! Love from SC, Jane
I think the only travel trailers that are actually the length of the model number are Airstreams. Most 26' travel trailers are closer to 30' in length. Airstream measures from the center of the hitch ball to the rear bumper.
Even though we are boondockers, I think we were just priced out of 5th wheels...even used. So bigger TT was kinda all that we could go for. but I'm not looking forward to parking it in the occasional park. just backing 36ft travel trailer is going to be a challenge!
Great information! We have ordered a 40 ft toy hauler and have a dually to pull it. We will be big, but plan on boondocking out west quite a bit. Here on the east coast (we are in New Hampshire) there isn't much in the way of boondocking.
U-RNext Truck U Need to Up toA1-Ton Dual Wheels to give u better weight distribution & Keep U out of trouble with D.O.T. So U Don’t get no over weight tickets.
Quit showing our second home, Tahoe!! Hehe! Just kidding. That makes me so happy. Cave Rock, Caples Lake, also looked like the casinos at Stateline. If you’re ever there again, we are in South Lake during the summer months. But usually not with our Brinkley…we have sticks and bricks there!
I know what the news is all ready You guys are going into another travel trailer Florida is the RV capital of the world You guys must have saw something really nice
I would have gone with the 28rks 5th wheels suffer from frame flex they are always closer to 2ft taller and I believe Outdoor RV TT i believe has a little more ground clearence especially in the back end.
Nice size rig. For us 32 is max for 5th wheel… those 38++ rigs are just too much. Great choice. So you went from a van. To 26…now 33…your next one will be a 3 bedroom 2 bath condo..😂
Hey y’all! I’ve watched a couple of your videos and just hit that subscribe button! #Lovin’TheVids. I did want to ask (sorry if you’ve been asked this question a million times) are either of you on videos calls (Teams, Zoom) while at campsites or boon-docking? I work remote but have to be on video chats often and want to find a reliable internet before heading out. Keep up the great content!
Hello! We do video calls a couple times a month. So it's not a daily thing, but we do need reliable internet everywhere we go since our business is 100% online based. This is the video of what we are using. ua-cam.com/video/5SItxqWksgI/v-deo.html But here's the gist. We use dedicated cellular based interent as our number 1 and carry star link as a backup to make sure we are covered. (IMO) Cellular is still king because of trees/obstructions and having it work while in motion. Starlink now has in motion, but what happens when you get to your campsite and its under trees. So a good roof based antenna and quality router in your RV is what we use. Insty Connect (like in the video) is a little less expensive than say Peplink options, but dosent have as nice of routers. But, now the new Instyconnect has an ethernet option do you can use and ethernet router. With this said a lot of people use Star Link full time...... but you really have to make sure you always have a clear view of the sky....
Very interesting video. Maybe I missed it but how about a blurb on items like your batteries and other upgrades. Doesn't have to be an entire video just a throw in on your upgrades and how they are working.
Sorry meeting up didn't work out. Life has been really crazy: identity theft, hospitalization, etc. But let me know the next time you're in Florida and we'll have a good time.
I bought a roof top tent for the roof of my F250 and have an overland rack on the bed for everything else. I have yet to go camping with it. But I know for a fact if I had to live in it I might MURDER SOMEONE 😂😂😂😂😂
I noticed your travel trailer was made by Outdoors RV Mfg. What was your experience with that trailer other than not being a 5th wheel setup.... I understand that Outdoors RV makes high quality units.
ORV makes a great trailer and we really liked the quality of the unit. We dint care for the darker color scheme and carpet though.... But solidly built!
I think you need to put it on scale because a 33 ft 5th wheel is not 16800 lb.Only Luxe,New Horizons or DRV are so heavy. And if it is so heavy you over load the rear axle of the truck.
Awesome video. We’re currently searching for a fifth wheel to replace our travel trailer. What made you choose the Alliance? I apologize if you’ve covered that in a previous video.
Thanks! It started out with friends that had them that we first saw the Allainces. Then we met Rob, one of the team members at Alliance through RV Unplugged and that started more conversation. We really fell in love with 295MK we have and also heard great things about quality and warranty. We've had more little warranty things than we'd like , but overall love the rig. Will cover more in the future. 😊
Travel days & errands can be tough - even with our smallish Imagine 17MKE (22' overall) and our truck. Walmart gets a lot of grocery money from me, as I know we can always find a spot. OMG on that older mobile home park in FL - we drove through a similar one (not towing) in NC and just a giant no. RV toilets use a lot of water & can definitely fill the black tank. Ah ha ha "and no, I'm not pregnant". How do you feel about giving up the truck bed (for the most part) as storage (if I missed this, my apologies - dog, husband...)?
🤣 Yes! For the most part all of our stuff in the bed fit inside the 5th wheel so it's kinda a wash. We still use the truck bed for "wet" stuff storage though. 👍
By the way, we are temporarily delayed in getting our True Toppers. We have to get our frame failure repaired first, then True Toppers and Bob Moses Ceramic Coating.
@@IreneIronTravels After watching Phil and Stacy’s video this evening at MAC, $6100 for a 36’ rig is very expensive to the BMC’s quote we got for both the rig at 46’ and the F-350 dually. @1StrangeAdventure also did BMC and it looks great.
Very nice and interesting talk. Entertaining as always! Y'all will be fine up the E coast in the state parks and COE land. Be careful out there and scratch the dog's head for me!! 😄
Surprise, Chris prefers her kitchen on wheels! With how much you guys like boondocking, why have you not gone to a composting toilet to extend your tanks even more?
I just want to say I really enjoy your videos, and I have a question going from the outdoors RV travel trailer to The Alliance fifth wheel are you able to fill your fresh water tanks in the alliance and travel a few hundred miles to a boondocking site like you could with your Outdoors RV or do you have to wait until you're just a few miles away from your site before you fill your freshwater tank, I've noticed a lot of RV manufacturers tell you not to run down the road with your freshwater tank filled but I also know that is not a problem in an outdoors or Northwood RV, I was just wondering your thoughts and whether or not you can do that in your alliance fifth wheel.
Hello, and thanks for watching! Alliance reinforces their fresh water tank with welded steel straps. They don't tell people to drive around with a 100 gallons of fresh water if they don't have to, but they understand that you have to sometimes if your dry camping or boondocking. With that said, we have driven many 100's of miles with full water. No problems for us so far.
@vancandew7375 it was definitely faster paced travel in the van. Partly because we just got on the road and we were excited, and partly because of the small space. We’re looking forward to leaving FL in April and traveling up the East coast on the same route as the van. Lots of travel vlogs coming! 😊

enjoyed the video and formatting. As women can attest, size does matter...and we can tell. I can relate to the length and weight and realizing, OH yah, I can feel that. Glad Chris is adjusting to it and getting comfortable. It will take time and more time will be more confidence. Merci
Love your Basenjis!!! I grew up with tri, red and white and black and white.
Nice technical video and explanations
Thank you so much 😀
If you’re traveling through Pennsylvania this year, most of the state parks have at least electric only sites and some with some full hookups. We’ve been to some that have sites big enough for your rig.
Good to know thanks!
You should consider a goose neck hitch and get your truck bed back.
👍 I would look into it more if we had a long bed truck, but with a short bed we like the automatic slider. Seen and heard of too many accidentally truck cab hits. We just go to so many unknown and new places.
@@IreneIronTravels Gen-Y has an offset ball, its basically just like a slider hitch.
Long bed is the way to go.
Luv the wedding pics!
I never liked pulling a trailer. Much prefer a fifth wheel. But went back to a diesel pusher.
The concrete barriers in construction. It’s tight, Especially in A Dully.& The Fifthwheel
In almost 45+ years of rv-n and everything from a tent to. 34’ Class A if we learned anything, it was no one rv / size fits everyone or all periods of life. We are now back to a 30’ ORV travel trailer. It’s what fits us now. 2-3 years from now ???
Fantastic comparison setting realistic expectations for others!
Nice! Yes, maybe a little bigger one than our 26 footer? Good luck in the hunt for the RV. 😊
I was amazed on your roof top tent days
😊 good memories for sure!
That is funny, just when you said you had more news.. I started wondering if... and then you said no you're not pregnant. Anyway nice comparison to the TT.
I'd also love for them to start a family 😢
😊 Yes, thanks! 🤣 Awesome to hear you're finishing your vintage trailer!
Chris you need to start a special club for Women 5th wheel drivers (Shirley, Following the Yellow Brick Road,; Sharon, S & S and Rv cats; yourself).
Yes! Good idea! 😊
I would love to have an Alliance...our dream. I know y'all will love it. I can't wait to hear about your new baby! Best wishes ans safe travels! Love from SC, Jane
Thank you so much!! 😊
I think the only travel trailers that are actually the length of the model number are Airstreams. Most 26' travel trailers are closer to 30' in length. Airstream measures from the center of the hitch ball to the rear bumper.
We just love the state park for camping. It also helps to be 62 to qualify for the America the beautiful pass for half of the sites
Yes, nice perks!
Military vets get it way before 62 and the same discount!
Even though we are boondockers, I think we were just priced out of 5th wheels...even used. So bigger TT was kinda all that we could go for. but I'm not looking forward to parking it in the occasional park. just backing 36ft travel trailer is going to be a challenge!
Ohhhh, we had the problem once we were not able to disconnect. We were super new RV'rs then.
If your travel trailer had a Murphy bed it would’ve been AOK 😎👌🏼
Yes! That would have been great if it turned into a couch under it!
🤣 Yes, what a beautiful place! We look forward to going back some day!
Hilarious! I certainly did think a baby was on the way.
I know what the news is all ready You guys are going into another travel trailer
Florida is the RV capital of the world You guys must have saw something really nice
Florida is the RV capital for sure! 😊
I hope you'll get a chance to stay in one of Vermont's beautiful state parks. 😊
We look forward to watching you doing some more boondocking.
We do too!! Thanks!
I would have gone with the 28rks 5th wheels suffer from frame flex they are always closer to 2ft taller and I believe Outdoor RV TT i believe has a little more ground clearence especially in the back end.
Thats a great option!
Nice size rig. For us 32 is max for 5th wheel… those 38++ rigs are just too much. Great choice. So you went from a van. To 26…now 33…your next one will be a 3 bedroom 2 bath condo..😂
You should get a F350 Dually for that full profile fifth wheel.
This is the video of what we are using. ua-cam.com/video/5SItxqWksgI/v-deo.html
But here's the gist.
Be cautious of your tanks. Most are not designed to be hauled full. Especially rough roads.
Very interesting video. Maybe I missed it but how about a blurb on items like your batteries and other upgrades. Doesn't have to be an entire video just a throw in on your upgrades and how they are working.
Yes! A some good updates are in order ! Thanks Dan😊
What a tease!
Sorry meeting up didn't work out. Life has been really crazy: identity theft, hospitalization, etc. But let me know the next time you're in Florida and we'll have a good time.
Thanks Paul! I hear ya! It can get crazy quickly! We're still in the Keys now and might be in the Miami area next month...
I know you prefer the roof top tent 😂😂😂
😂😂⛺️Yes! We should have compared that too! 😂
I bought a roof top tent for the roof of my F250 and have an overland rack on the bed for everything else. I have yet to go camping with it. But I know for a fact if I had to live in it I might MURDER SOMEONE 😂😂😂😂😂
@@bigreds9188 I say put a rooftop tent on top of the fifth wheel. Looooong ladder climb though! :-D
Great vid!! You guys had an Outback Titanium?? Im looking at downsizing from a 36 ft 5th wheel..How did u like it
The truck you’re using for that rig, is that a F250 or 350 pulling that rig?
I wish sprinter vans were just a little bit bigger! Six inches wider!
That would be awesome if they were!
Why alliance , instead keeping same brand and going with Glacier Peak ?
Ground clearance is gone. Top heavy as well.
For me personally, it is the concrete jersey barriers during construction. I hate those and especially in a 46’ Momentum. -Pete
By the way, we are temporarily delayed in getting our True Toppers. We have to get our frame failure repaired first, then True Toppers and Bob Moses Ceramic Coating.
Yes, those are tough!!!
Oh, man sorry to hear about the frame!!!! Have you compared BMC to MAC??
@@IreneIronTravels After watching Phil and Stacy’s video this evening at MAC, $6100 for a 36’ rig is very expensive to the BMC’s quote we got for both the rig at 46’ and the F-350 dually. @1StrangeAdventure also did BMC and it looks great.
@WestsontheMove 👍
I told you guys to go to Ocala and Kissimmee It's much drier and higher up
😊 Yes!
Maintenance? Trailer cost and time cleaning lubing seals etc Truck ?def, oil ,fuel filter, tires, tranny, difs, make a video pls
👍
Very nice and interesting talk. Entertaining as always! Y'all will be fine up the E coast in the state parks and COE land. Be careful out there and scratch the dog's head for me!! 😄
Thanks! We will! 😊
@@IreneIronTravels Well, I just saw that Phil & Stacy had their RV ceramic coated at the same place that you did.. :)
@grayfox9911 yes, I just saw that too! Nice 😊
I'm new to the channel, question does he drive ?
Surprise, Chris prefers her kitchen on wheels! With how much you guys like boondocking, why have you not gone to a composting toilet to extend your tanks even more?
Yeah thats a good question Rick! We've always been "compost curious" but have never actually done it! 🤣
Is it the same width as the travel trailer
F350 21ft? Uhh you mean 13ft shortbed?
Did you remove a booth t
And create your own double desk? It looked great
Yes, we removed the couch and had the factory put in the desk! 😊 Thanks!
Thank you so much for your reply, that's what I was hoping you'd say. GOD BLESS AND SAFE TRAVELS
Very niiiice and informative video!!!
👍😃🍻
Thanks 👍
Wrong on measurements...you subtract 4 ft from truck and 4 ft from trailer because of overhang.
Don’t take this the wrong way but your podcast was much more entertaining when you traveled in your van. Good luck in your travels!!
Thanks! We totally miss the van days too! But that was almost 3 years ago! 😊
Nothing bad about use , just seemed you had alot more adventures? Probably because the economy was much better then?
@vancandew7375 it was definitely faster paced travel in the van. Partly because we just got on the road and we were excited, and partly because of the small space. We’re looking forward to leaving FL in April and traveling up the East coast on the same route as the van. Lots of travel vlogs coming! 😊
It's like a semi truck
