Josh, as a veteran RVer I have to say your comparison videos are nothing short of a Master Class on how to shop for an RV!
I hope first timers take note so that they end up with their "second RV first".

Me too. I *liked* Wildwoods before the VLounge.
Then, as soon as I saw it, the game changed for me. My personal pick list was shaken pretty hard
Right now... something like a 26DBUD or 28VBXL are *hard* to beat for the money

I love my JayFlight SLX. I shopped Wildwood (and Salem) and just felt the Jayco had a better fit and finish and was worth a little price increase to me. The warranty was a big deal, too.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  3 роки тому +3

I do feel Flight has a little tighter fit/finish overall, but that's actually largely due to the pocket screwing of the cabinetry. It tends to "suck up" the gaps when the screws are tightened whereas stapled fasteners will stay "gappy" if fixed that way

We actually have the Jayco 29RKS in this video(2020). We love the large camp side window and kitchen counter space. I feel the 'overbuilt' qualities are what makes it track better on the hwy. I also love the fact that Jayco seems to be the only brand that builds with axles that exceed the GVWR of the trailer. Most deduct tongue weight and use axles rated for what is left.

KING bed for sure. My wife and I are amazed at how few king bad options are out there. Our first trailer was a Hybrid so we were towing a 19 foot trailer but had two true Queens that took no floor space from the floorplan. When we started looking to go to the dark side, "ridged travel trailers" we found the options that replicated those bedding accommodations only when we started getting into the 32 ft or longer. Finding a couples camper with a king bed, under 8,000 lbs is still an active search for us.

    • @JoshtheRVNerd

The main thing that stood out was the underbelly. The underbelly of one was all one piece while the other had sections. There will be times that maintenance must be done above the underbelly. It makes a lot of sense to have the sectional underbelly as opposed to having to dismantle the whole thing to do that maintenance. I come from a tropical country and once I return to the USA it is my dream to camp in snow so insulation is of particular interest to me.
Side note: I'm leaning more towards a 5th wheel as I want big propane tanks and perhaps 6 lithium batteries (expensive) to insure I I don't freeze to death. On a 5th wheel these are inside but on a trailer they are on the hitch and easy to be stolen.

I'm sort of sensing you're newer to this and in the looking/learning phase. Is that correct? Or do you have RVing experience already?
I'm also curious about your towing vehicle -- that'll help me offer some potential recommendations.
Short of that, here's an exercise I've found *very* useful and powerful over my years doing this. And keep in mind there are no wrong answers to these questions. Ask yourself
      * Do you think you'd ever regret having the benefits of a fully "hardsided" trailer vs. a hybrid?
      * Then, can you imagine ever regretting NOT having gone to the hardsided trailer?
USUALLY the answer presents itself that way.
I've often found when people are not sure which way to go choosing the option that's "one step up" for lack of a better phrase will typically serve them better long term.
USUALLY it means "Do I get a slide or no slide?" Commonly folks will be happier with the space of a slide out. But Hybrid vs. Hardside is certainly a valid comparison

I love the warranty with Jayco. I love the VersaLounge and Accessabelly with Wildwood. They’re close enough where it would come down to fit and cost. That doesn’t mean the less expensive one wins, cost is relative. A Jayco with the perfect fit and that warranty is worth paying a bit more, but it’s hard to say the VersaLounge isn’t going to lead to a better fit by default. It works well if there are 2 of us or 6 of us in there… while the Jayco maybe works perfect for 2-3 but not so well with 6… but it’ll almost always be 2-3 of us so is it worth it to pick the one that works slightly better in the niche situations? I don’t know. It depends. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@JoshtheRVNerd I’m almost thinking the best fit would be a bed for my wife and I, a U-Dinette that can fit our son or a couple and enough room to set up one or two air beds or cots. A bunkhouse would have to fit my 6’ 2” son and whatever friend he may have along, that’s a tall order as those bunks don’t seem to be very long. Weight isn’t the problem, he is a wrestler so he weighs between 145 and 152 lbs (invariably, it’s kinda important for wrestling!) and probably won’t get much heavier at all before graduation… but he’s tall.
If we go to a shooting comp or camping it’ll mostly be him and my wife (5’2”) and I (5’10”). Heck, we only need a camp queen. He needs the U-dinette space! We’re Scouts so we have camping cots, sleeping bags, etc. Other than our luggage and stuff for the comps (guns and ammo aren’t light but we aren’t talking a literal ton, maybe 100 lbs total for a major competition) we don’t need a huge trailer or huge carrying capacity. It would be nice to be able to bring a golf cart but, we don’t have a golf cart anyway. So I’m sorta leaning towards a Wildwood 22RBS kinda model. Roomy, not overly huge and not overly expensive.
But I still need to get a truck then the camper. Gotta sort out some income stuff first. I’m getting there. Your videos have helped a lot. They made me consider lots of things.
On a southern MI note this hot weather has made me consider AC issues a lot more, lol! I don’t know how southerners do it. I’m like, “Go outside? Are you insane?!? It feels like 98° out there!”

We have the 21 Wildwood RK. Quality wise I'm not sure how all the mess ups passed QC, or GenRV inspection.
-----The wall holes in the jam, that the door springy latch thing clicks into in all the walls didn't line up with the door handles, not allowing the doors to click shut.---I had to drill new holes in the door jams that line up.
    - The metal latches on the outside storage doors didn't catch the frame , and were flying open down the road driving.-- luckily I'm handy, and I welded and fabricated new longer latches.
-- On the RK model, you have a long pvc pipe for the kitchen sink running all the way to the grey tank. It is hanging by multiple metal straps. 2 of the 5 straps were never connected, and it was laying across the axles. So I had to attach the straps, and shorten the other 3.
--- On my personal roof inspection when I got it home I noticed 3 spots where the factory caulk bead ran out, and there was no caulk around the air conditioning unit---I caulked that, and other spots.
Before you say 'well it's under warranty, so just have the dealer fix it' my reply is "General RV repair time is normally 4-5 months out. I wanna camp. And not wait for some half wit, to half ass fix it. I will do it myself the correct way , and be camping the next day"

I know this is an old video but would like to say the reason most vehicles are black, grey or white is because of the instant gratification of the American public. If available, many other colors would be chosen. Red and green would be better represented if dealers would carry them on their lot. But in order to get the most vehicles with the most variety of options, they have to limit their stock. Dealers will rarely let you order the color of your choice. They have to move the vehicles in their inventory or pay interest on them. Every month a vehicle sits on the lot, the more it costs the dealer. A new car dealer in town has exactly one car on their lot that is not white or black. They sell Dodges, Chryslers, Jeeps, Rams and Chevrolets. How can anyone buy a new vehicle that is any other color?

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  Рік тому

Whether it’s campers or cars or anything else dealerships don’t set the market. They reflect it
Dealers do not care what colors they carry. They care about what you want to buy and stock according to those trends
I saw the same thing happen with Winnebago trailers. They used to offer multiple color exteriors
Over time what was the most popular? White and Silver.
So what did dealers stock? White and silver.
And if a dealer doesn’t let you order the color you want, then know another dealer will.
