The dealership had it under "GX460 Premium model"... I'm assuming they did not know it was a "Luxury trim package" with the drivers attention monitor, front and side view cameras, etc. blessed me!🙌💯

I have a 2011 with over 175k miles that looks, drives and feels new. New models really won't motivate upgrades. only if you like the new grille and front. I'm crazy changing vehicles, never hold a vehicle for too long, but this one is making feel like I'll be a keeper. Thanks for th video.
I bought a 2010 model. I love it. No hesitation taking it on a cross country road trip, Palo duro canyon, overland, etc. Most versatile vehicle in the business. Helps parts are inexpensive and Toyota also. Reliable as they come
I love your reviews, almost like ASMR to me. Keep up the wonderful work Topher !
Ps. Would have been nice if you showed the headlights, turn lights and taillights on the new GX
Best review ever. Very detailed. I literally drove those cars with you. I felt the strength they possed. Am definitely getting one soon. Preferably the 2012. Thanks a lot man.
Love the older look before the hideous trend of a huge grill.
RON B difference in taste of age gaps. Just like modern music would be terrible to your age groups.
@@JAYJAY-ch4ik I totally disagree with that . Love most music today . People love using that tired line of age.
"O u to old to understand etc" .
Been like that since the dawn of time, I bet.
Ugly is ugly.
@@JAYJAY-ch4ik I'm 23, the new grill on Lexus products is ugly. It's big and out of place. I much prefer the smaller grill on the older Lexus and on my 2000 4runner
I also hate the "bucket mouth" look a lot of new cars have.
I don't like the huge grills either, but I've seen some gx's with aftermarket steel bumpers and chopped grills and they look really good!
I’ve been waiting for a comparison like this especially with Lexus. Great job. Lexus is unbeatable in terms reliability.
Outdated =reliability, Innovation = junk .
I can feel how much you love your car. I feel the same about my 2013 gx.
Just bought my 2018 gx on Saturday. Absolutely love it. She’s a tank!
Lexus needs to step it up cause Genesis is on the come up👌🏼
Juanillo Rios they don’t need to build quality on Lexus is superior
If you really want a 2020, buy a used 2014+ and slap the 2020 grille on it.
Nobody will know and it'll be just as reliable.
voogru I’m not sure if the bumpers and fenders are different as well
I'll be buying a 2014 in 2 years
Lexus is the best cars ever!
6 years old and reliable? They can be 40 years old with 500 Million miles and be reliable.
@@optimusprimee only in terms of reliability
Your voice and mannerisms reminds me a lot of the guy who does savagegeese.
Holy moly thank you for making me realize that.
Spence Walton it’s all good. I still enjoyed the video 👍🏻
Funny enough SG's review of the latest 460 shows up on YT's next recommendation. Spooky
I like the GX for one main reason: the touchscreen is still there! While it may look a tad dated, I still like it alot.
I have a 2011 GX with 112k. It replaced my 4Runner, my second 4Runner. Love Toyota capability, and the Lexus just adds better toys and better fit and finish. BUY ONE
2012's steering wheel looks more "SUV" than the one on the 2020.
Like the comparison video. Definitely like the old wheel and more classic luxury on the old as well. New looks more techy. The 2020 model has an obnoxious grill like it's so thirsty to be noticed lol
I really like the new designs. Yes everything is old but that's what makes Lexus and Toyota so reliable. Can't beat this reliability!
I'm an OG with my 06' 470, and I love it. It does everything I need it to aside from get over 20 mpg on the highway. With gas at $1.75 I'll stock up for future adventures, lol.
Did you replace your timing belt yet? Recommended at or before 100k miles.
@@conquest562 Yea it was replaced at 105k miles a couple years back and I just hit 160k.
Do u use regular gas
Love your reviews! Your video also reminds me of my old days living around Novi, all those familiar highways and local roads. Keep it going!
Great review! Recently bought the 2020 (love it) and happened to like that grill. It's more distinctive than the prior grill, which looks the same as a 4-Runner grill. That said, your 2012 is great looking, too and for the mileage it seems to be in great shape and still going strong. I agree on the 2020's tires and that's something I'll address when I get new tires. ML sound system is awesome, but you must upgrade to Luxury package before it's an option and didn't want to spend the extra $8k. May see if I can get it installed at some point.
You’re doing an excellent job of keeping your interior clean. The seats look mint for the mileage! A nice combination of quality leather materials and proper care. 👍🏻👍🏻
Why are you and daddy I miss you I miss you what are you guys daddy how are you guys daddy what are you guys daddy I miss you how are you go daddy I miss you I want is my daddy I miss you OK tell me how are you can tell me what how is grandma doing and how are tell me when her how to do it OKooll, mmmmmk
I know they won’t keep that old school feel going but I wish they would. Love my GX and will keep it till it dies...multiple times.
Great video, im convinced... Im currently shopping atm. Was also looking at 4runner, fj, tacoma, even land cruiser. GX 460 checks my three boxes: reliability, offroad capability, luxury.
I just started watching your videos...mostly because I have been interested in the Elantra GT N line. I have a 2006 GX 470 with about 183k miles and it runs like a top still.
I have A 2004 GX. I love it.
Great 460 man. I've been looking for a decently priced one up here in Canada.
Its crazy how much these still resell for.
Bro, run more ads! Your content is awesome and I wanna support!
I would never buy a 2020 Lexus. It’s basically the same vehicle as 10 years ago. I know it’s super reliable but they sure are slow to update their lineup
How does the new 2020 Lexus GX 460 Luxury compare to my 2012 GX 460 Premium with 150,000 miles? I paid $25k for my GX two years ago (May 2018). At the time of filming it's probably worth about $19k, nearly a quarter of what this fully loaded 2020 GX 460 Luxury costs. Let's find out how they both drive.
How do you turn on Eco Mode on the GX (on the LX, you can turn it on with a dial switch on the left) and 4Runner, etc?
how is that three years ago?
Vipermoon It isn’t? He says “two years ago in May 2018” bRuh
@@Ezio1026 He edited it obviously (it says "(edited)" up top)
Brian Lee I don’t know if a 2020 model has it, probably not, but the 2012 doesn’t have an eco mode. Having an eco mode is like giving away one of your testicles. I’m not giving my balls to anyone for a measly 1-2 mpgs. Lol
The Lexus interiors are so outdated it's amazing consumers are letting them get away with it.
This is just outdated because it needs redesign. Go look at the LS.
Julian what do you mean outdated? Yes some models have the same design such as this GX and the LX kept the body style in a similar design. But the LC500 and the rest are way dated in interior design. Maybe not the tech with Apple car play and phone app compatibility. RX350 refresh is hot in the market so with the New ES have you seen those ?
Maybe because they are mechanically sound...interior can be customized later?
@@vvsre760 how is the LC500 outdated? It was just released in 2018, and there's a 2021 refresh/ update.
Cuz the lexus don't start leaking after 30k miles
The 2012 GX Looks better 🤔
It does not
It is better looking I agree on older one. The front grill on new makes it extremely disproportionate on all angles.
Hey, GBY! I personally own a 2011 GX460 [Luxury built trim package] that I purchased for $24 grand back in Sept. of 2018 from a Porsche dealership in NJ and I reside there [the truck is in between good and excellent condition]... it had 35k miles on it, 1 previous owner, Starfire Pearl with the Ecru interior with all the "bells and whistles"... except for the cooler/icebox in the center console/compartment and the tonneau cargo cover, but it has a DVD/CD player built in with the sound system [Mark Lev] with Tvs on the headrests and the RSCA button [just above the center diff. button]. The dealership had it under "GX460 Premium model"... I'm assuming they did not know it was a "Luxury trim package" with the drivers attention monitor, front and side view cameras, etc. blessed me!🙌💯
I'm totally blind so I use my flip phone for texting and calling, they're still being made!
Gx is probably the best suv out there next to the land cruiser, I am looking for one at the moment and I can’t thank you enough for this video your 2012 looks amazing
Great review! Agree with you in all points. Lexus has a winner in the GX, that’s why they’re reluctant to change it much.
My wife’s 2016 has the same cup holders. Also we picked hers up for $31k with 36k miles. I think we hit a sweet spot on age/mileage/price over a new one.
I just found a 2017 with 41k miles at $32,000. I say both good deals!
Thanks to coronavirus cars are dropping prices. This is a good time to buy a car for cheap price.
Wow and that guy in the video bought a 2012 with over 100K miles for about $25,000. I must say both of u got a pretty good deal
WOW I AM SOLD. A used GX it is!!!
Just bought a 2017! I love it!!
Shakwana S I did the same thing a couple months ago
Shakwana S when ??!
Todd Gersh whats your year term ?
@@mikexcanxjerk just bought my 2017 silver with black interior GX at the beginning of April. It's my dream car!😍😍😍😍Love it! Plan on keeping it for years!
You made an excellent choice on buying that Lexus, that's really the ultimate driving machine, won't let you down with just the basic maintenance, I own a 2010 with 180 k miles and runs like a charm and I also have a 2001 Lexus GS300 and guess what, runs also like a charm. Smooth and Comfortable. Best built Luxury vehicles.
The answer for a why you buy a Lexus Gx460, is very simple, after owning a Mercedes Benz ML 350, an BMW X5, you end with something reliable and repair free. Thanks for the video. By the way, I did purchase my 2015 Lexus GX460 from a Mercedes Benz Dealer here in South
Florida.
Great comparison. Both of these Trucks run soooo smoooooooth. I will pick up my 2022 premium in two weeks. Unfortunately, they did not have the Mark Levinson due to chip shortage and there is a longer wait for it. But we need a car so settled for Premium. In my opinion this is the best SUV out there for the price range.
Such great cars- love the new headlights, wondering why they didn't do anything with the back end. I have a 2011 RX 450H- it's an amazing car. You'll get another 150k out of your car if you change the oil regularly. Great review- thanks buddy!!
I really like your videos and this is no exception. GREAT comparison test. Just goes to show, buy well from the beginning, take care of it, and it will take care of you.
Great video, love the comparison between the two GX models
Excellent video, Chris! Always love your videos, especially GX ones. Your subscriber and a GX470 owner.
After I drive my Lexus IS250 too the ground. I want this truck next.. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I would rather try to save both. Let me buy an old ISF.
@@peppapigthekiller7539 I got 12mpg on my IS-F on mixed driving. You don't exactly baby that car. Especially with an exhaust on there. It can do low 20s MPG cruising on the highway though.

@@optimusprimee You don’t buy a LUXURY car if you’re on a budget 🤦♂️
I didn’t realize how rare the adaptive cruise was for the 2011-2013 GX... I think there are maybe 5 for sale in the US right now and they are price about 30% more than a Premium without.
I don’t care what anyone says... the 2020 looks so much better
It does look better, but it doesn't look $50k better
Just get a Landrover or Mercedes G Class theyre "2020" 😂
I love the new look, so much more aggressive looking.
great video! thank you. I'm looking at a 2011 gx w/146000 the only problem i have seen so far is the color but that might be an afterthought. headed to the dealer tomorrow to test drive and really inspect it in person. wish me luck
We are still patiently waiting for the GX vs 4Runner Limited comparison. Glad to hear you are using KROWN Rustproofing. I hope you get to drive a 3 Door Prado some day to see how the shorter wheelbase compares.
Right Lane Hog unfortunately we don’t get the Prado in America or Canada 😔
@@kevintillack1396 We get the fully optioned 4 door Prado with a weird Lexus grille and call it a GX. When the market recovers, a bare-bones 3 door Prado would be
an excellent replacement for the ill-fated FJ. My choice would be a 3 door with the 2.7 4 cylinder engine and a manual transmission.
People complaining about this cars technology when it can last you litterally forever. While a Range Rover will have everything you need but won’t even last you passed 40k.
@Jake Tapper FALSE. Yeah u don’t sound like you ever owned a Range lol. People buy Rangerovers for status when Lexus is just as luxurious. And I rather have a Lexus last me with no problems til 200k when my Range couldn’t last me until 30k and I never owned a Lexus in my life.
@@Freightshaker69 while most buy a range rover for the status there are some people that buy it for pure pleasure. Especially the higher end models such as the Sport SVR. Nothing beats the SVR in terms of performance and luxury. and many don't buy it to keep it forever and if they do want to keep it for a long time they can afford to repair it.
I like my 470, will be upgrading to LX soon.
Thanks for the great review. I really wanted to know more about any significant difference in two areas. The first the is the ride quality. The second if the noise insulation is the same on both .
Thanks again!
I've got a 07 ES and I like the old school feel of it
2011 lexus gx 222k miles and it still looks like the dudes like the dudes 2012, these things go forever.
The differences of the interior between the 2020 Lexus GX vs something like the similarlly priced 2020 Genesis GV80 are just mind boggling.
I know the lexus is soo much nicer
Just drove my 2020 GX from OKC to Gulfport. Best auto I have ever driven.
the biggest difference is the looks and miles, I'd buy the 2020 model over yours any day, because it looks better and is new
I’ve probably watched this a half dozen times as I bought my new to me 2012 knights armor pearl non levinson. Non air bag 80k beast. Loving it so far looking forwards to a great journey like yours. Sorry you sold but hope you love your new 4 runner.
The interior looks dated from the early 2010's
They say those cars don’t get broken in until maybe about 150,000 miles. That’s an excellent car. I wanted to get one of those used but I ended up getting a RX 350 which I’m happy with.
Like the new one way more. 🤷♂️ You would look good in it. 😎
Honestly, these cars are great for someone who likes to keep their car for a period of time. I feel like there less flashy than other cars is which I like.
I'm so glad I subbed to your channel. Really good content, thanks for sharing!
2024: bought a 2012 GX460 with 183k miles for 15k. Can honestly say that was the best vehicle I've ever owned. Even at those miles there was no noise. Whisper quiet. No rattles. And if you needed the power, boy oh boy was there some power. Had to sell it for a Sienna because things started getting real stuffy with two car seats and us needed a 3rd row. I'll definitely get back into one of these in the future.😊
Seems a little risky to get the air suspension but it's worked out for you so far
I got a 180k miles out of my air suspension on my GX470. They won't fail any time soon.
d1sturb3d my grandmothers failed after 10k but that was definitely a factory defect they went another 140 k then till she sold the car
The bags are cheap and easy to change yourself.
Just bought a used 2020. Almost purchased a 2019, but I needed really good headlights. The 2019 was good, but the 2020 has better “throw” and seems to have better visibility at night.
Great review. Thanks for posting. Was wondering if there have been any issues with the air ride? Could it be a costly repair down the line? Also..would you know if the newer ones come with a remote start from the key fob?
We bought our 2005 GX470 new and it’s still running strong with 175,000 miles on it. Our 15-year-old GX is still supremely comfortable on long road trips, occasionally doing 16-hour days. The 2020 has some nice features, but the front end is butt-ugly. I like the Prada front end much better. We plan to keep ours as long as we can and we’ll NEVER buy another Lexus until they tone down that front end.
It's Prado, and I agree with you! I wish we could 1get the Prado front end, it's like a mini land cruiser with masculine twin bulges on the hood and nice headlights and grill!

Reliability is king
So lazy that they couldn't even engineer a new Supra lol. Also the new Tundras are already having recalls and turbo issues. Just goes to show that the only reason a Toyota is reliable, is because it's underpowered, boring, and stuck with 2010 technology.
I’m just about to buy a 2015 GX460 that’s had a grill upgrade to look like the new one. Can’t be more excited.

A testament to Lexus's reliability. Also on how conservative they are in updating interior tech in their cars.
This looks like a GTA vehicle new design outside but old design inside.
Sold!! Great side-by-side comparison. 💯🙌👌
8 year difference and the only change from the interior was the steering wheel and gauges haha
Thats perfect!
The biggest issue with the 2020 is the low hanging front and rear bumpers and running boards. I really hope that Lexus trims up the next generation. The 4wd components and systems are extremely capable and reliable, but the bodywork really hampers where it can go.
