We need a updated review now after 20k + miles. How is it doing? What is your impression? Any issues? thanks!
@@---rg1gb Great idea! Already at almost 30K, and I’ve got lots of ideas. I’m actually planning to do a series of videos on things that annoy me, and I have quite a few. Will also do one on what I like just to keep some positivity since I really do love the truck. 😁
@@kevinhill.8 Awesome. Looking forward to watching them!
Magnetic grey metallic! That's the color for me!!!
Nice! Does a decent job at hiding dirt too. 👍🏼
Excellent review!!! I have a 2019 TRD OffRoad - I drive a lot, I've put 79K miles on mine since buying it new Jan '19. We own a horse farm (on a river), so a lot of those miles are in 4WD and it has performed flawlessly. I may be one of the few where the radio buttons make sense. I use XM/Sirus Radio and my screen shows the channels in a column and thus the up and down arrows correlate and I see the volume on the screen change horizontally so that too makes sense. I'm in the minority as most everyone else sees it differently. However in the big picture that is a good thing that that is on the list of dislikes. I've never noticed the steering wheel issue - but my hands are actually old and worn out - like the rest of my body. I have found this truck to be highly capable and very dependable and a true joy to own...it is a great value. Enjoy yours and be safe.
Thanks! Sounds like yours gets lots of action. That makes total sense for your screen with channels in a column; I hadn't thought of that! Keep up the good work on your farm. Sounds like a lovely place!
@@kevinhill.8 125k miles now. Haha
Excellent review!!!! Right to the point and very informative. Thank you!
Thanks dg1. I'm glad you found it useful, and I appreciate the compliment.

nice truck man, i got a 2019, pretty happy with mine. enjoy!
Thanks, you too!
Great and comprehensive. Look forward to seeing your other vids.
Thanks. Hoping to get some new Taco content out before too long. COVID has slowed everything down.
👍review. Best I've seen. Very detailed. Kudos for crawling under the truck.....Nice truck!
Thanks EZ. Glad you found it helpful! When we bought our Subaru Outback I slid under the showroom model from one end to the other and I remember them laughing and saying nobody had ever done that. Gotta peek at what matters! ;)
Best video ! Thanks for the view of the underside of the truck.
Thanks Robert! Glad you enjoyed it.
Fantastic video thanks for all the info

Thanks. White w snorkel does look sharp!

Sweet truck!
Thanks Chris!
I just added the smoked turn signals. And LED map lights and dome love it!!
Nice. Are you saying you added LEDs for map and dome? If so, would you mind sharing what you purchased. Thanks!
I've seen some people put lights in the hood scoop looks cool and works awsome
I’ve seen that too. Definitely considering it. Thx!
Good video and great camera work, from a Tacoma owner
Thanks 👍
Great video, thanks for the crawl under, getting our white 2020 Pro in a few days. The volume/track control will definitely drive me nuts, but 1st world problems I guess. I love that the interior still looks like a truck and has a subtle mix of old school and new tech.
Thanks Jeff! I hope you have been enjoying your white pro! And yes, the volume/track control continues to annoy me, and would definitely qualify as a 1st world problem. :)
Love my black 2020 pro. Bought it new and upgraded from a 96’ single cab taco. Got 33k miles now and have put it through every condition Oregon has to offer.
Nice! Probably a huge upgrade from ‘96 to 2020.
Those tires 😍
Haha, thanks!
Nice Truck!
Thanks CJ! It's been working really well for our needs.
Great review ! We have a 2018 TRD OR with premium package.I will probably go with TRD Pro next trade just because I'm retired and can lol.I never do more than light off roading but I like the looks of the OR and Pro.
Thanks! I like the way you think. Enjoy your retirement!
Nice job on this video! One of the best I’ve seen. I am looking to buy a TRD Pro. No 2020’s in my area and the 2021’s aren’t here yet. There are several on the way to dealers so I may just pre-buy one of those. There are a couple of very low mileage 2020’s though. Not much of a discount for buying used with Tacomas though.
Thanks Rod. I hope you got what you wanted, and sorry for my very delayed reply. ;)

🧐
I have been bouncing between an Off Road with the Premium package and the Pro. I really wish Toyota offered the Access cab in the Pro trim, and it would be a slam dunk for me. I like a 6' bed, but want the shorter wheel base for off road driving. By the way, you provide about 4 times the info that most salesmen so. I'm always amazed how clueless they are.
6' bed definitely has a lot of advantages, and I agree completely about keeping the wheelbase short. And yeah, I usually find myself teaching the salesperson a few things. ;-)
Excellent 'overview'...the underneath crawl through was especially interesting! I recently traded my 2017 TRD Pro (a good truck!) for a 2020 Pro mainly to get the safety and convenience upgrades - well worth the money. BTW: A small negative for me is the location of the engine start/stop button. It is mostly hidden from view behind the steering wheel! As you said - not intuitive! A small positive; I'm glad Toyota added better knobs on their radio.
Glad it was helpful, and nice job on your upgrade. The new trucks definitely have some nice safety and creature comfort upgrades. Enjoy!
I got mine in January. The best vehicle I've ever owned.
Just recently changed out the Goodyears for some BFGoodrich KO2s. Those stock tires are useless offroad unless your aired down to 10lbs.
Installed a Victory 4x4 bumper, Warn 10,000lb winch and 20" light bar this past weekend.
I'm a very happy Taco owner.
Nice! Sounds like you've done right by your Taco! How do you like the Victory bumper, and what brand light bar did you go with?
@@kevinhill.8 The bumper is great. I got the one that just covers the center. Easy install. I'm not sure what brand the light is, but I got that through Victory as well.

Like a Toyota.
I don't think that is how Madonna sang it though? Or Bob Segar?
Having had two Taco's in a row, and then moving on from Toyota for lack of tech & MPG, it blows my mind that, at no fault of your own, a selling point in a 2020 truck is a power driver seat. It's unbelievable how intentionally far behind Toyota is in terms of interior/passenger comfort and technology. It's also unbelievable how reliable most Toyota's are compared to the big 3. Thanks for the videos, they're great!
Yeah, Toyota seems WAY behind the curve on a number of interior creature comforts.
I feel like power seat is the last thing I need in a vehicle. I don't get why people like it so much. How often are you changing your seat position?
Lmao. I bought a 2020 trdor and the power seat was the least of my worries. Reliability and resale value are #1. Thats why
Finally someone overviews the offroad with appropriate tires. Praise Jebibus
Haha, yes I wish Toyota wasn't quite so conservative with their stock tire choices. :(
2020
Is that a question? 🤔
Man you had to dig to get some negatives but that’s a good thing lol
Haha, truth! Those things really do bother me, especially the steering wheel plastic, but I admit they are minor in the big picture. It always bugs me when I can use something for like one hour and identify numerous potential improvements. Especially for simple things (like having volume be Up and Down on the steering wheel), it blows my mind that product testing doesn't immediately identify this as something that should be changed before releasing to the public.
Can’t wait to get my truck. Damn pandemic ruined everything
COVID = No Taco! :(
Kevin Hill right? Im probably going to wait till September or October now to get a good deal on a 2020 or sooner depending on how this all affects prices
NOW is the time to buy!
Actually with 0% for 60months and no payments for 90 days at some dealerships might be a good time to buy.
@@CoyoteRegulator true, now is a good time to buy as long as you have job security...

nice video, hood scoop is cool though i have a 2020 and love it !! Yes i heard they make 4000 of each color of the pros.. Very limited considering a $50,000.00 truck ..
I've never heard those exact numbers about 4K of each color. Good to know. Thanks!
@@kevinhill.8 yep read that on toyotas web site
No snorkel? Thanks good review
Thanks! No snorkel, and no decals. I know opinions on both are mixed; love-hate kind of thing, though I'm kind of on fence about both. You may already know this, but the "snorkel" is actually a Desert Air Intake, meaning it doesn't affect water crossing capacity, rather it pulls air from higher up where it is likely cleaner, especially on dusty terrain when following others. It also has a downside for those living in cold climates. If it is snowing, you have to reverse the intake direction to prevent it from clogging and restricting air to the engine. :(
Kevin Hill Yes I really prefer the Tacoma without the snorkel. I’m still running my 2008 Tacoma, without any problems worn talking about.Still want a new one.
Nice TRD Pro and review. Did you consider a TRD off road with a long bed? I wonder if the long bed might be more versatile with carrying kayaks, bikes, etc.
We did consider it. In fact, our original plan was a long bed with access cab instead of 4 doors. We decided we wanted the interior space, and I'm not a fan of 4 doors and long bed. It's a really long wheelbase, which does make for a smooth ride, but also makes the (already long) turning radius really long, and also kills the breakover angle for off-roading = easy to rub belly/high-center.
I wish they would make the Pro in Barcelona red.We have a 2018 TRD OR in the red and I love the color.
Maybe one day.
Very thorough review. I love the colour choice and tasteful upgrades! Taking delivery soon on my trd pro and was thinking about the wildpeaks. How is the road noise compared to the factory Goodyear’s? Thanks.
Thanks! The Wildpeak road noise isn't bad at all. The Pro exhaust is much more noticeable. ;)
Congrats on your soon-to-be Pro purchase!
I may have missed it but what’s the tire size?

This video is GREAT - I’ve been waiting for something like this. Thank you.
Glad it helped!
This is Luke’s girlfriend, Dawn. He’s been daydreaming about this truck. Just wanted you to know that this video is really informative. Really appreciate the detail. I agree about the steering wheel. Thank you for this. 👍
Hey Dawn. Thanks for your comments. I'm glad it was helpful, and nice to hear someone agrees about my steering wheel comment. My wife says it doesn't bother her, but I sure find it annoying, haha!
I have 2 weeks with mine. Wanted the pro but I opted for the off road fully loaded with all the packages except with the 6 foot bed which was my only reason so go with that. My lifestyle just benefits with more bed room. I wish the pro was offered with the 6 foot bed through, bummer
Sounds like the right solution if having the long bed is a priority. There are definitely times I wish our bed was longer, and the extended wheelbase results in a cush ride too. But like all things there are tradeoffs too, such as long turning radius and poor breakover angle. Enjoy your new truck!
Just bought a 2020 TRD Pro today. Won't get it for a few days. Damn. LOL
Sweet! Enjoy the new ride. You're going to love it. Such nice trucks, and so many creature-comfort upgrades for 2020.
@@kevinhill.8 how are you liking it? How much was it?
I'm ready to get one 2021. If you don't mind me asking what would be a good deal or price for 2021 ?
Not sure, to be honest. I hope you got what you wanted, and for a good deal. Sorry for my delayed response.
Hey man what tires are those? Nice ride 👌🏽
Thanks! Here is my review on the tires: ua-cam.com/video/S1ayT2fhV-M/v-deo.html
How is it for kayak shuttles etc? Is the small box ok? How many boats can you fit comfortably?
Thanks great review.
Thanks Chris. We debated about long bed for kayaks. Looks like you paddle WW too, and so boats aren't very long. We have been leaving tailgate down and most boats hang off a foot or two, which is fine. Three boats fit easily on their sides. Obviously can go with bed and/or cab racks too. We have a Yakima Rack-and-Roll trailer, so often use that if hauling more than three boats.
Personally, I wouldn't want the long wheelbase on the double cab with long bed (long turning radius and low breakover angle = poor off-road performance), so for us it was either access cab w/regular bed, or double cab w/short bed. We really like having regular size back seats. Good for people and for holding more gear inside while traveling. Also, with Pro you don't have options other than double-cab short bed anyway, but we decided on this setup even before deciding on Pro.
Kevin Hill Awesome. Yeah short boats for sure. I’m thinking of getting bed racks but undecided. The adjustable Yakima racks look great
@@christhompson1094, we are looking at Yakima options too. Thinking maybe the Outpost for a rooftop tent. Not sure if boats would clear the cab with that one, and it's not adjustable. Flat boats definitely wouldn't since it sits lower than cab, but with WW rocker, they might.(?) The Overhaul obviously gets high enough, I just wish it would go lower, like to height of the Outpost, that way if using a rooftop tent it isn't all sticking above cab and cutting fuel efficiency.
Kevin Hill yeah for sure. I actually have ordered my Trd pro and right now it’s sat at the dealership waiting but I can’t go pick it up. Haha. So I’m shopping accessories and trying to see what people are doing. I saw the kayaks in your video and thought you’d be the guy to ask.
Yeah it’s a shame the overhaul don’t go lower but I doubt the rocker on creek boats would be enough with a low rack. I was thinking about the bed extender too. With the tailgate closed it’d be good to keep pfd etc but it may just be unnecessary. Do you have a tonneau/bed cover?
@@christhompson1094 I think you are right about the rocker not being enough, especially on short bed where the rack will be pretty close to the cab. We don't have any kind of bed/tonneau cover, and we've been keeping tailgate down when traveling with boats. We just finished 1K mile Northern CA paddling trip (video coming soon) and we kept two boats in bed on their side, along with one bike (for running shuttle), which was hooked up to bed via Yakima BikerBar. All worked really well. We did purchase the Toyota Bed Net accessory, which we haven't used, but looks really nice. We simply ran the tie-down strap through our pfds and spray skirts (or clipped them to the BikerBar) so they could ride in the bed = no wet smelly stuff in cab, and helps it dry out while driving. Hope you get your truck soon. Congratulations!
Quick question. How does insurance work? Let’s say I total my truck. If I have a Pro they pay me replacement valve. If I have an OR with $10k of upgrades will insurance cover my upgrades?
Good question, but that's probably one for your insurance company. I'm guessing they all vary. We recently had damage to the truck and it was covered as comprehensive. We also had a break in last summer, and all the stolen items were covered under our homeowner's insurance.
Nice video...A gentleman on another Tacoma website is offering your color of Tacoma no-hood scoop plus $600 for your hood. I just thought I would share since it seemed like the scoop was not that big of a deal to you.
Interesting! Ditch the scoop and make $600 too. I've kind of gotten used to it, but that is tempting for sure. Do you have a link? Thanks!
I have 2020 TRD OR prem and try switching from that to my wife's Lexus NX300 the controls are all different or backwards. You would think Toyota could get the same on both , same company.
Wow, that even worse being the same company! 🤦🏼♂️
how long do the bedlights last after turning off the truck, and can you use them without turning on the truck? did you look at any other trucks?
Last about 45 seconds after engine turned off. Yes you can turn them on with switch on dash without running the engine.
Hason has it right. You can turn them on, set them to turn on with the door, or turn them off. I usually turn them off (i.e., set them to NOT come on with the door) because they are bright and I don't necessarily want the bed glowing every time I open the doors, haha! :)
Looks dope ! How do you fit in the drivers seat ? I’m 6’2” and it was always a tight fit with zero headroom having that moonroof. With the power seat I’m hoping it will give me more room ?
Thanks! I'm only 6'0," but I fit with no issue. I suspect the power seat's ability to drop 1/2" lower than the fixed seats will work for you. Check out this reviewer's discussion of the seat and how he fits in the new truck vs. the old one (I linked the video at ~ the time this discussion begins): ua-cam.com/video/HxaSfSsZWHw/v-deo.html
@@kevinhill.8 Thanks!
@@mcnasty3303 I'm 6'2". I sat in a moonroof equipped off road model this past weekend. There is a small difference but I felt like there was still enough room not to deter me away from a tacoma with one. I moved the seat as low as it could go and still felt comfortable to drive.
Corey Crotts thanks for the feedback!
I just bought a 2020 TRDOR with moon roof. Im 6’2” @ 220 lbs and i have no issues
Highly doubt that there is only 3k difference considering availability. OR are being discount more than 10% off msrp and if you pay msrp for Pro then it’s 7k difference. So the question is how much below msrp did you get?
That's a fair point Andre. Not only do the Pros rarely get discounted, but I've seen them marked up $5-6K over sticker! We paid sticker, but did negotiate about $4K in accessories, "multi-shield" protection (5-year key replacement, windshield replacement, dent/ding fixes, interior repair, and roadside), and a really solid extended warranty (96 month, 100K mile).
Are the tires you put on your truck louder then stock when you drive it? Have you noticed reduced gas mileage?
The tires are a little louder, but nothing too bad. As far as mileage, I don't think they are having much of an effect. I've been averaging almost 21mpg, which is in line with the 18/22 (20 avg) on the window sticker. Hope that helps!

Leather not necessary and moon roof takes away about 2-2.5in of head room. You don’t need any of that stuff. Tech package as well. Not needed.
Head room hasn’t been any issue at all, for me or anyone else. But you are certainly correct that leather, moon roof, tech package, etc. are not “necessary” or “needed.” After all, what is really needed other then food, water, and shelter? Do you really even NEED a vehicle at all? 🚲🤔 We could’ve bought a 20 year old POS truck and done most of the same stuff with it. That’s not what we WANTED though. 😉
Is this the new mexican tacoma?
Door jam sticker shows this one was made in Texas. But according to this article from January 2020, “Toyota has been building Tacoma trucks at its Baja California plant in Mexico since 2004. Last month, Toyota’s newer facility in Guanajuato began assembly of the Tacoma.” However, it also says that “Toyota will shift production of the Sequoia in 2022 to Texas and that plant will end production of the Tacoma by late 2021.” So it sounds to me like some Tacomas were being make in TX, and others were already being made in Mexico, and by late next year they will all be made in Mexico. 🌮 www.autoblog.com/2020/01/18/toyota-tacoma-production-mexico/
@@kevinhill.8 thanks for the info, your tacoma is really cool and I am lokking forwars to buy one soon, not sure if yours was still fron the old production plant of either Tijuana... or already from the new Guanajuato plant. Keep the good videos!! Cheers
