Amazing demo! Can I ask if the return patch cable is blurred/removed for any reason on the pedals used? I thought my eyes were going on me
Yeah, it was a blue cable on my blue background, but I didn't have any other patch cables to use. Sorry, I should've mentioned that!
@@collectoremitter OK I'm not crazy. 🙂 Thought I was loosing it. Very early here and I was like what is goinh on???
In all my jobs, I was always told I didn’t handle negative feedback well. Perhaps all I needed was this pedal.
🤣🤣🤣
Maybe you were in a bad mood because you just hadn’t eaten enough. I’d start with an Hors d’Oeuvre.
You started playing and I said "wow this pedal sounds great" and then I saw it said "we're just hearing the dry signal" great playing
Haha! Well it does color the signal a bit with the JFET input stage, so it could be a nice, subtle boost
Fairfield makes weird and wonderful stuff. A "those who know" company hopefully more folks get to know.
Legit one of the best demos I've ever heard. This is beautiful.
Thanks so much Anise!
OMG! A new Fairfield Circuitry pedal! This is glorious.
The one with Meet Maude was really sweet. Made me think of stuff like Band of Horses etc. Also made Tensor sort of more musical in a way. Great demo.
I really love how it turned the Tensor's loop into a delay. I'm definitely going to be using that a lot
Fairfield has yet to miss. Great demo!
this is the best video on the internet. I think i've watched this demo 10 times, 8 of them just for the music.
Man, I really appreciate it! I'm really happy with a lot of the sections in this demo. Mostly because all the different combinations are so inspiring, finding new ways to use pedals I'm so used to
I absolutely love Fairfield products!! I want the shallow water and meet Maude so badly!!
This one sounds special as well!!
Get the shallow water. Life changing.
@@zechs5079 thanks! It’s definitely my next pedal!! Can’t wait to have it and make videos of it on bass on my channel! I got some good ones of the astral destiny by earthquaker devices already
I really love the oscillating reverb sound! Well done on this demo!
That was mesmerizing. Thanks!
I deeply enjoyed this.
Amazing video, thank you so much for the different examples ... Beautiful playing and truly wonderful pairings, thanks for taking the time to share this with all of us brother. And the final guitar jam on the outro with the RM was just crazy nice, reminded me a lot of Rich Robinson from the Black Crows ... Cheers!
This pairs wonderfully with the Tensor and Randy's Revenge, cool stuff
It's so cool ! A fresh breath in the pedal industry
Killer, killer demo fine Sir! Great playing and explanations. Thank you X
Love this song
you make the best demo vids, beautiful stuff
Thank you homie, it really means a lot!
Beautiful
Fairfield is gonna start dominating my board soon.
They make some of the best pedals out there!
lovely. great playing as always sir
Thanks so much man, always means a lot coming from you!
Great video. In the first few minutes I immediately thought that this would be awesome for my DC 2W and was blown away when you actually put it through and it sounded absolutely outstanding. I have to buy this pedal just for that alone, but I can see from your demo how amazing this can be for almost everything in your collection. Well done!
Excellent demo of this pedal!
This is the one. Amazing sounds!
woah. mind blown. makes every pedal a whole new thing.
Your dry signal is amazing. great video!
Now I can’t decide if I want this or a count to 5
I was half expecting the PLL to just come out sounding like a Tubescreamer through this pedal.
Sounds great though, well worth checking out. That phaser sounds pretty sweet too.
Very nice demo, love the different pairings!
Very nice - thank you. Subscribed 😊
Man, I’m digging that Randy’s revenge bit at the end!
I love how those two work together! It's weird and magical
your video convinced me in getting one:) quality build wich allows me to use the barbershop od as something else than a permanent on effect and to experiment with modulation pedals. thank u
Love that Ring Mod combo.
Me too, it was really cool how it started to resonate
13:31 Soundtrack of my life (or at least I wish it was)
Great video. Bought it right away ;)
Wooow this looks super interesting! The Ct5 combo sounds killer.
I was super confused at first as your green screen apparently hides the return cable...
I was going nuts thinking I was missing something. So the return is missing. Phew!
Yeah, the cable is there! It just got keyed out 😑 that's my bad for not mentioning it
@@collectoremitter no worries. Your videos are amazingly helpful!
Damn always wished the tensor had feedback, this is a nice solution. That sounded real fucking good 😱🦕
Wow this sounds awesome! Definitely changed my thinking about feedback loopers. Also did the return cables get mostly green screened away or am I going crazy lol
Yeah, the cables got messed up. It seems to be confusing a lot of people 😬
This could be Fairfield's masterpiece to me. I had an old "eye of god" which did this feedback thing. But this sounds smoother. Only thing is, the "eye of god" had the photosensitive eye to control feedback. It worked alright. It seems this new fairfield pedal has a big knob (easier for the foot) to control feedback. But I have just seen photos of this pedal on a dealer's site with no big feedback knob (nor does there seem to be an exp pedal input). :; ]

woulda been nice to add a delay knob to the Hors d'Oeuvre, i guess you can always patch it through a zero-feedback delay pedal but woulda made it more flexible
Just opened my present to discover this under the tree
If you used a slap back delay and a digitech ricochet or drop you could’ve gotten really cool pitch shifted delays 👀
This sounds like a really imaginative pedal that you could definitely float away...musical, and dreamy, dissociation, in a nifty, relic box... :)
It sounds killer with that purple mushroom pedal... What is the purple shrooms?
Thanks! That’s the Farm Pedals Fly Agaric phaser
Dang. I’m not into pedals. I just stick around for your lovely playing
❤️❤️❤️
Coolio. Two pedals of mine that I always wish had a dry mix knob... Purpll and Fly Agaric!
Same! It's really nice to blend a little bit in just for the articulation
I'd like to A/B the Hors D'oeuvre? with Electro Lobotomy's Harsh Feedback unit. Although the EL box is much more for pure Noise/Experimental, in what other ways are they similar, or different?
I wonder how this would sound on percussion
What fuzz did you use? Sounds awesome :)?
I'm going to be Tom Hanks from Big: "I don't get it." Feedback loops are pretty easy to create and you usually get EQ if you use a mixer. I'd be a little more into it if it had a 7-band EQ built in. The demo keeps things tame and in certain ranges, but I have a feeling that in the wild people aren't going to have as much success. Cool idea, and I love FC.
It's pretty easy to get out of control with any feedback looper, and some other demos showed that really well. But I wanted to find some of those sweet spots, which really I dialed in each setting in only a minute or two so it would be super easy for anyone to recreate
@@collectoremitter You definitely accomplished that! I just think showing it getting out of hand might be useful for people not familiar with feedback loops that think they will have this same smooth experience. I still wish they had included an EQ of some sort.
Did you custom make that enclosure for the Edlritch Blast ? I've never seen a bare metal one like that and it looks so much better
Mine was from before the original run in order to make my demo for it, but they didn't have enclosures yet. A few years later Alec offered to replace the enclosure and made me this really cool one
Great demo thanks. Looks like you’re feeding this into the fuzzes rather than the other way around? If so, have you tried the other way around (fuzz into this)?
What would happen if you ran multiple pedals and had everything going into this??
Hi. How is it a feedback loop if you dont patch anything in the return jack? Edit: Sorry about that. You do. It's just that there is absolutely no opacity on this specific jack.
Yeah, an unfortunate (and confusing) consequence of my green screen and color of my patch cables. I’ve since gotten new cables to avoid this in my videos
Why is there no cable coming out of the Rtn of the pedal?
I saw the face of God when you did the purpll
Apologies if this has been asked already, but what tuning are you using for this one? I'm always really impressed by your playing, it's what got me interested in seriously exploring alternate tunings.
Thanks! I'm usually playing in EAEABE, which I've settled on for the past few years. It's like standard but can get that open sound under chords
06:35 what is that fuzz pedal?...
Is this like the JRocket APE? Except for the phase toggles.
Q: when this is bypassed, does it still route signal the effects loop?
My friend, I just come for the dank riffs. Got any albums or anything?
Thanks so much man! That really means a lot. I do have a band Bot Garden, and some solo ambient music (link in description or search Collector on streaming services), as well as some old bands (Poison Oak and For Everest). Nothing that sounds exactly like my demos though, but I’m working on reworking some of my favorite demo riffs into full songs
How does this compare to DBA Total Sonic Annihilation feedback pedal?
They're very similar! I think the TSA has a fuzz built in which is kinda DBA's thing, and it also allows you to turn the feedback off to just use the pedal in the loop. This is more clean with just a bit of JFET smoothing on the inputs, but it has the added benefit of the polarity reverse toggles which can get you to some creative places
Icglazer , that is an excellent call on this pedal. I was thinking the old devi ever eye of god (which I had at one point) which had the photo sensitive eye to manipulate the feedback. Sadly, it looks like there is no foot controller input on this, or am I wrong? Peace Icglazer ; ))
0:54 I don't understand where did you get the delay sound from? Is it just green and blue cables plugged into send-return of your amp?
How would you say this compares to the Total Sonic Annihilation 2 by DBA? I’m weighing up both currently. I feel like the DBA is maybe better for creating screaming kind of weird feedback whereas this is better for ambient weird stuff?
What are the fuzz you use? I like the sound! 💀
Shall we place it before or after delay?
Do you think this pedal is worth the 199? Does it basically make every single pedal sound better in its own way?
It makes every pedal sound different - but won't necessarily make your rig automatically sound better. I had been wanting a feedback looper for a while (specifically to use most of these pairings) but I know it's not something everyone will find useful
What is that fuzz you put on at 6 mins and 35 secs???
It’s called the Team Awesome Fuzz Machine from the now-defunct builder Smallsound/Bigsound
I'm a little confused.. it appears that the hors d'oeurves has the traditional guitar in and out. One green cable going from the loop "out" to the second pedal "in". How is the sound of the second pedal returning to the hors d'oeurves?
The other cable I used was blue, which unfortunately matches the blue background I use to edit in the footage. There is a cable there if you look closely
Anyone want to buy this and run it into the Shallow Water so I can hear what it sounds like? Please???
I believe Devon Blue Whitaker showed that in his demo of this!
I've just ordered this pedal. Any advice on whether/ how it can go on a pedalboard?
I would personally set it up with one or two specific pedals in the loop. But you could also do the DBA thing and put your whole signal chain in the feedback loop
what make and model is the purple phaser ? anyone know ...?
It is the Farm Pedals Fly Agaric
There's some amazing sounds in this demo, but I feel frustrated that after watching an 18 minute video, I still don't understand this pedal, or feedback loopers at all.
Haha! I guess I showed it but didn't really explain what's happening. Basically the feedback knob takes the output of the pedal in the loop and sends it back into the input, creating a feedback loop (hence the name)
How does this work with nothing connected to the output of the pedal you are sending to?!
That cable was blue, like the background, so it disappeared. Unfortunately I didn't have any other cables. If you look closely there is a shadow of a cable there
Everything sounds cool even if I have no clue what the hell this thing is.
And that is exactly the theme line for all pedals nerds
6:20 sounds like the end of Helicopter by Deerhunter ( ua-cam.com/video/G5RzpPrOd-4/v-deo.html )
Great demo! Really GASing for this pedal now...
What amp or simulator are you using?
I'm using a Rootbeer Audio 18W, it's based on the weird late 60s Marshall 1974 (or 18 Watt as most people call it). Pretty similar to a Vox amp, with EL84 output tubes, but a bit of Marshall flavor in the preamp
Could you elaborate a bit on how you approached setting the polarity switches in these examples? Were you following some rule of thumb based on the type of effect, or was it more experimental? Also, and I'm not sure how to phrase this, is there a delay in the feedback section of the Hors d'Oeuvre? or is any perceived delay coming from the effect sitting in the loop?
There’s no delay or latency, think of it like the latency of a long cable vs a short one. Maybe electrically there is a difference, but it’s sub 1 millisecond
For the polarity switches, some pedals invert the phase at their output and some don’t. It was mainly experimenting to get things to sound best (which usually is making sure the loop and dry mix are in phase) - so +/- or -/+ if the pedal does invert phase. But phase cancellation between the two signals can be used as an effect to give a more hollow sound too
This would be epically shoegaze if you added a distortion.
Dipping into your Battles bag w the tensor combo
You know that's always what I'm trying to do
Excellent. Thank you. That negative feedback bit with the PIL was like some space invaders game boy from doom vibes.
Yeah, absolutely! PLL pedals are already arcade acid trips, but adding feedback to it is so fun
4:08 You have the green cable going from the chorus pedal INPUT to the Hors D. SEND jack. How does this work?
If you look closely from 6:04 to 6:10, there is another patch cable connecting the pedal output to the feedback loop return. It’s probably the same color as the background so it got lost in chroma key compositing, which is a technique for video post-production.
Yup, like the other person said, I only had a blue cable and use a blue background, so it got mostly cut out. But the send is connected to the pedal input, and return connected to the output
@@collectoremitter I was scratching my head for a while
Beautiful
