I just bought myself an 2004.25 Excursion 6.0 and so far I love the truck. It’s exactly what my family needed with room for my six sons and the ability to tow my 30 foot camper. If I ever find myself in possession of $20k that’s not already spoken for, I’m thinking of making the 5 hour drive out to Tennessee, with a trunk full of parts, to have you put it under the wrench for me. I’m very impressed with your videos and knowledge of these engines!
I’m losing my mind chasing a light white smoke issue on my 6.0.. it puffs white smoke until the truck gets warm enough then it goes away, no coolant loss and I’ve tried disabling each injector letting it run for a minute to see if it clears, it didn’t do anything while disabled. But once the oil temp is 160+ the smoke is gone. Ficm always 48v+ I’m thinking injector seals but I also have a ton of blow by vapor, cap won’t vibrate off but vapors coming from oil fill and from the CCV. Driving me nuts trying to diagnose this thing if it doesn’t pull any codes. Great video by the way, had an IPR o ring fail on the IPR itself was leaking oil at the back of the engine and would shut down when oil temp gets to 194. Keep up the great videos the 6.0 community is grateful. Thank you 🙏🏼
The early log manifold was scrapped for the later model “wavy” rail because the deadhead design of the log created issues with oil flow to the injectors. Edit: great video though man
@@detroitdiesel7074 no different than a 7.3 is dead headed. Log is pressurized with oil, injectors “use” what’s called upon by FICM to push the fuel out of the injector with high pressure oil via the intensifier piston. Only flow issue would be when log is air filled after opening system and log is void of any oil. I seldom have to pull valve covers on a early 6.0 for HPO leaks and I attribute it to be a much less problem prone setup. The standpipe never fails, braided feed line never fails. It worked on the 7.3, dt466 and dt530 which are all proven work horses. Thanks for watching.
@@AutomedicGarage I think you missed the point, the newer rails basically get rid of pressure drop across the injectors, as well as have a higher capacity of oil
Love me some 6.0 content. The last 6.0 I drove was an 07 F450 that we used to pull the Disaster Response 5th Wheel Trailer. Fully decked out with lights and agency insignia. I believe they got rid of it after I left law enforcement in 2013. Great video!!
@AutomedicGarage i just delt with this on my 03 while doing an inspection before reinstallation. after added up the cost of oem new pigtails it was cheaper to buy the new harness. so thats exactly what i did. otherwise its just a game of whack a mole. ive made sense of this while building a ficm harness, the gxl or equivalent wire use is only good as long as the motor is good. when the motor pops its head gaskets and egts and temps get out of control. that mixed with age and rodents spell disaster for these harnesses. i also suspect brake clean is acting as an aid to getting the insulation soft and gummy.
What in your opinion is a good reason to hold onto our ol' 6.0s vs buying the 6.7s? I have a 120,000 plus mile 2005 F350 originally owner crewcab swd shortbed. Sure the 1000lb plus of torque is crazy and I get passed by these guys towing fifth wheels and toy haulers.
I’m chasing a high pressure oil leak on my 04.5 6.0 f350 and I have replaced rail nipple cups with HHC’s NC Kit and O’rings, injectors have been rebuilt entirely inside out, alliant power O’rings on the outside, inside Bitterroot parts even the spool valves, new HPOP,J tube is Ford brand I installed it about 6/7 months ago,but I will check it out this weekend, stand pipes are Ford brand (updated version),New ICP from Ford Dealer, and my truck when I start the truck and normal temp it creeps a bit to 84.7% and shuts off…. Also Brand New IPR ford motorcraft I purchased from Ford dealer, now what I’m I missing? I can hear a leak on the passenger side when I feed air through the IPR port, I mean it’s loud but I can’t trace it. Any ideas? I look at your videos and Diesel Tech Ron as well haven’t solved it yet.
@@orvilleortiz8616 if you hear air you have a leak. Use a oiling can to squirt oil on the rail while air testing see if you can hear it gurgling or see it spurting. If not could be your standpipe has failed oring.
