Little touches like the bell makes your cabin personal and charming. Very nice touch. I really hope you enjoy many years of this beautiful place. Thanks for sharing >>>
Hi Vanessa enjoyed your video the cabin is looking great have a great day. 👍👍
Very productive weekend
Thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you so much ❤️😊
Good job. I like how you smile when you build. It shows your heart is in your work. You have fun and get things done. I like that too. Smiling, George.
Vanessa your so creative and beautiful 🤩 Thank You for sharing 🥰🥰 = ) Jesse ✨
You made some very nice changes. You are making it more like a home. Nice work!
love robinson vanessa my dear friend 😄
I got to give it to you European ladies. You got some mad work skills. I'm very impressed. Combine that with all their beauty and you can't beat that.😘❤👍🙏
For damp basements where I live in Pennsylvania, air movement with fans dries up moisture. You'd have to have a screened vent in the floor to enable the humid air to evacuate. You may want to consider adding drainage for water around your cabin. Your roof may need gutters with downspouts to route the rain water away from the cabin. A french drainage ditch dug around the cabin that drains away from the cabin toward a downward sloping part of the yard through an exit drainage ditch would help to dry up the ground around the perimeter of the cabin. It's pretty much like digging a ditch around a tent for rain water drainage but deeper, wider and filled with gravel on top of some PVC french drain pipes.
Very interesting video as usual. Thank you Vanessa.
Your local home improvement store should have a product called "Flex Seal." If you get the Flex Seal Liquid, you can roll it on with a paint roller or a paintbrush. It's a rubberized coating that will prevent water from coming in. It should be available in black, white, gray, or clear. It takes about 24 hours to dry.
I am afraid that applying FlexSeal on the inside of the concrete walls will not work. The water-pressure comes from outside - through the concrete - and the rubber-like layer will just be "pushed" off the cement.
@@77Matt it bonds to the cement. It’s not like she’s trying to hold back Niagra Falls. Water follows the path of least resistance. Flex Seal would be resistance. People use it to seal basements. It’s just a hole.
@@Randoker67 The water pressure is not negligible. It is just physics. But I admit: I am talking theory here, so I look forward to seeing what happens in practice.
Or a roll of Bitchathane, don't know what they call it now. You can heat it with a torch and apply it to anything.
The view from yr window is like a picture, very nice.
Everything does not have to be practical.... or have a logical purpose, meine liebe. That YOU wanted the BELL is ENOUGH! I like the bell also! Vanessa, in the U.S., a larger version of that bell could be found on farms and ranches in the old days. They were called "dinner bells" because Mom used them to call the ranch hands to meals. Country schools used them too.
I like these simple videos. Like I said a long time ago, YOU'RE the STAR! 😎❤🚜🇺🇸🇩🇪
Maybe you can try using spray on rubber coating. In America we have a product called "flex seal". It goes on like spray paint. It should work very well for you.
A good product. Normally it is applied to the 'dirt side' to keep water away from the cement too. But that would involve a lot of digging now...
@@joealtmaier9271 you'd also have to dig around the inside areas which would involve pulling up the flooring. It's a seldom used cellar. I'd just go with applying a sealant to the inside and avoid the digging.
Most foundation water problems are best resolved by diverting water away on the outside. Gutters, downspouts and sloping grade away from the foundation wall. Then cover the floor with polyethylene for a moisture barrier, covered with a few inches of gravel. Paint the walls with DRYLOK to complete the job.
Thnks for bringing up this product , I think it will help with a plastic tote also used as the refridgerator encasement .
Fantastic line of products.
Do not over work your self darling. We want to see a lot more of you.you are a real person. And a real sweetheart. 💯
Caulking works good between the wood- may God be with you Vanessa
Of course the work never end
Hi Vanessa, you have some great ideas for your cabin, like the modular shelving and your coat hangers, and I loved the bell with the horse. With the cellar, I would be tempted to try to jack it up enough to slide a water vapour membrane underneath to stop the rising damp. It was nice to see Aika watching with great interest!🌹💗🌹
Beautifully done Vanessa thank you for posting
Box it in using plywood coated with epoxy and fiberglass like building a boat to waterproof below your floor
Great update on the cabin and thanks for sharing. U always make a good day Vanessa. 👍👋
Great video! You’re always thinking!!! I loved seeing you fix so many things in this video. Nice job!👍👍😃
Another project done a million projects to go, your cabin is awesome.
You are very skilled in doing your projects: not many women could do it themselves. Your cabin is looking really great!! You have a lot of talent! Good job Vanessa!🐾
Wanessa güzel kız😁
You did a lot of good projects today, i Live in a small house so I know how you need to have a place for everything. Good job on the shelves and tool hangers.👍🌹❤️🎩
You have accomplished quite a bit - The cabin is looking very good.
Yr confident and many are attracted to this.🤘🕊🌲
Looking well as Always my dear. I wish I could have a escape like so.
Wow beautiful place.
Wonderful! Thank you for sharing with us! Always inspiring ✨
Yes Vanessa dear , the comment of flex seal seems a wonderful product . I have not used is yet myself , it comes in a spray can or paint on forms . The ad shows making a boat out of the product and travelling on the lake in it ! I recommend getting a plastic tote to put in your cellar after you seal it so you will have a lid on your storage to keep critters out of the items like a refridgerator in a house . It would be essy to clean too . The space filling on the shutters is what we call here in the U.S. vinyl caulk "pronounced (callk)" . The foam you have put on the space at the top of the cellar is what we call expanding foam . It seems you would want more expanding foam in the space . You really want to fill up the cracks the go back with a knife to remove the unwanted parts . The dinner bell is great , it will work very well to make a notification to the kids or anyone you have at the cabin . I was wondering how the roof tiles were , and the wood siding where it had rotted on the outside of the cabin ? I'd be a bit more focused on sealing the structure of the cabin myself . I don't know you may have that already completed . I must say I like the wooden bins you have built for storage ! I did not know spruce tree is a soft wood , makes sense alot of evergreens are . So good to see how you have progressed at the cabin Hey when are you going to have another sleepover with the kids at the cabin . Not 'til Marinos is big enough Johannas and Sebastian are probably wondering the same thing ! Forgive my spelling of the boys names and enjoy all you do honey , see you soon !
Vanessa very cool your cabin
Another wonderful video. You had some great ideas. The spray foam you used should help prevent rats and mice from getting into the basement. Consider adding a putty knife to your tool collection for when you are filling in cracks in the future and prevent you from getting a splinter in your hands and fingers. I had the same thoughts regarding the use for the bell to call the children in for meals. I am looking forward to your future projects on the cabin. I am sure the temperature is already getting colder in your region. We are still in the 80's to low 90's(F) yet in Northeast Florida. We very rarely have snow or ice here and when we do it is very dangerous because no one knows how to drive in such conditions. Keep up the great job you always do. Stay safe, stay healthy and keep living your dreams.
Hi Vanessa, It’s rather simple to waterproof concrete. Theirs several paints made especially for what you need. The ones I’ve used are a powder that is mixed with water and is very thick and works perfectly. Your cabin is looking fantastic! Cheers my friend.... Pete.
Nice job on the shelving! I would install a few screened vents for the cellar as the air flow will draw away moisture and prevent mold. Maybe one vent with an electric fan to help circulate the air - something you can run when you are at the cabin and after heavy rain storms. I have one of those bells. Ding Ding
When i was young i was told, when you ring the bell an angel gets thier wings.
hello vanessa! hooray, youre back at the cabin!! your puppy is beautiful. terrific improvements.
For the insulation between the floor and the cellar the polyurethane foam you used will be eaten be mice, but if you cut it in a v form so it can accept some silicone after that will keep them chewing some time :). As for how to dry the cellar, it's complicated but some ventillation holes should be done. Nice upgrades! I like these kind of spaces and the design fits there properly!
Love your Cabin videos , you are so cute and yet so rugged, in a good way , lol
Your improvements are good and practical. Somehow you need to divert the moisture away from the basement area. Then it may dry out. Love the bell Vanessa 🔔!
Many suggest using Flex Seal so I wont give any suggestions. Love how you constantly are updating your tiny lil cabin. The outdoor bell is going to come in handy when boys are older and they are outside and you need to call them just ring the bell they hear it and come running. Glad to see you again here. Have been missing you much. Ich Liebe Dich Soooo !!!!
Wonderful video Vanessa.... There is always something to do... :-)))) xxxxx
Very satisfying. I would thin some sort of waterproof cement, glue, or epoxy, about 10 parts solvent to 1 part epoxy, and heavily paint it on the walls, so that it seeps in to the pores of the concrete. Let dry. Repeat at 5:1. Let dry. and do a final coat of waterproof sealant paint. Something like garage floor paint.
There is cement sealant that you can use in your basement. Makes it waterproof. Stay well and be safe.
Your cabin is looking great!! When using the cellar...use buckets and such for storing things so they can't get wet or critters get in!! Good luck on the rest of your projects!!!!! I love that foam stuff also. Feeling those cracks up will help in your heating too!!
One way to keep the cellar dry. Dig a hole in the bottom of the cellar (6 to 8 inches in diameter and 24 inches deep like a post hole) remove the dirt to the outside. Fill the hole with gravel this will work like a sump. Next fabricate a galvanized metal box to fit the cellar with a lip or collar that sits on the cabin floor. The water will drain into the hole and the metal box will keep your produce dry.
You're home is beautiful!
Great to see you again! The basement yes ... actually they would need a cover ditch on the outside which would lead the water away from the house.💖
I'm confident that this is the best suggestion. In Canada we have a television presenter and professional builder named Mike Holmes. He says digging drainage ditches outside around a cellar (basement) is the only long term solution. A waterproof coating on the inside will eventually be pushed off by water pressure.
Less clutter makes things nicer. The changes are simple but effective & you will enjoy time at the cabin more now.
AWESOME PROYECT.-.....................................
Beer cellar... Clean well paint with several heavy coats... that makes water proof...the space filler is expansion foam... Shutter, caulk for filling...Bell hang a small wind catcher so it makes sound...
Respect to the ancesters, who would make a life without all the modern tools! Building is a real learning experience! Yes.🤯🥴🥺
Well we're in the 20th cen, most will do what sees fit and most of ALL simple. She's doing fine, more than most, no ya don't say.
I absolutely love your cabin. It's very nice and cozy. Waterproofing the cellar could be difficult with the dirt floor, but you could put a cooler in there to at least keep whatever you have in there dry. Love your videos and can't wait for the next one. Stay safe and healthy.
Hi Vanessa ..
jonnyboat2 has some good ideas regarding keeping the area around the cabin dry .. which is an important step in keeping the area underneath the floor dry.
I would look at possibly sealing the cellar walls with a waterproof concrete coating and then putting a removable fibre glass insert inside that. Good ventilation (air flow) passing through the cellar will help to keep dampness to a minimum.
Using metal drawer runners, it is quite easy to convert those boxes in your new shelving unit into pull-out drawers. I did similar in my kitchen .. converted a sturdy wooden work bench into a kitchen centre island with drawers (wooden boxes) underneath.
Take care .. stay safe .. Tommy
Good luck further with the renovations (it never stops 🙄😊).
Hi Vanessa nice job you have good ideas love your work, cabin is looking nice. They are different kinds of sealer that you can spray on or use a roller/ paint brush. Somebody mention Flex Seal just need to make sure the cellar is dry hope you can make it work. Be safe many 🙆🙆🙆🙆🙏🙏.
Hi Vanessa. Pre drill your holes before you screw, to stop the softwood from splitting.
I used such a bell, when my children were little, to call them in, they referred to it, as the "Cow Bell"...LOL
Very resourceful Vanessa! I love your video.
You did a very nice job on fixing up the cabin, looks great! I would recommend using Flex Seal to coat your wine cellar, 1 coat would likely do the job but 2 would be even better, it is low odor. I would also recommend applying it with paint brush, cheap brushes because they won't be much good after using them. Flex Seal is good stuff! Again... Nice Job! 👍
Very well done Vanessa. Love you x
Good job Vanessa that's four things off your to do list
Nice video and I love your cabin! One suggestion I would make, most mice in the USA will eat right through any kind of spray on foam. I would have packed that with steel wool first and then applied the spray foam. I have never seen a mouse yet that can eat through steel wool.
Great Job!! It's so satisfying to get projects completed. While you were cleaning the cellar, my own back was hurting just watching...lol. I love how efficient your cabin is. And the bell is a great addition.👋
You are really smart regarding the solutions.
Vanessa, thank you for all the time and effort you put into making your videos, they are so enjoyable. I would try the Flex Seal and if you can not buy it in Germany, let me know, I'll send you some, and pretty sure most of your viewers will too. Du hast recht, Bayerisches bier its das best.
Hello Vanessa thank you for the nice video you have really done a lot of work and it always looks better than the last time in the US they have some stuff called flex seal it comes in different types and they have some to put a watertight seal in there just an idea anyway I don't know if they have it in Germany but it is really good stuff stay safe my friend Logan 🦊🏆🌺👍✌️
Put a vent tube, like a plumbing vent, from the cellar to outside through the roof or wall. Put sealant on the concrete. Get it from a sealant company or paint store.
dinner bell I love it, so cool.
💗
We used to use G4 clear paint on concrete koi ponds and I later discovered a cheaper alternative.....it's basically the same thing, but used by water authorities. Try to find out the latter, as it is good enough for storing drinking water. Good job getting things sorted
Interesting video. Thanks and stay well.
Another great video. I love your stuff.
Any home center will sell a waterproof sealant for making your cellar water proof. Or you can use hydrolic cement but that's a big job. Good luck.
Keeping a cellar dry when you have a high water table is next to impossible. There’s all sorts of sealers and other products that can help. Sealer paints can help by sealing the concrete porosity keeping most of the water out. Eventually it will leak. It definitely would look better with a sealer paint surface vs the damp looking cement.
You have optimized all the spaces in the best possible way, the shelf is very useful and practical, even the compartment under the floor is an excellent idea. The bell gives a touch of class to the small house. You did a great job. Hello good Sunday👋
Wonderful Little projects 👊🏾👊🏾
Get some sealant. Maybe some Flex Seal or similar product. Go to your home improvement center and ask lots of questions. Good lcuk!
I love these simple videos about your real life. 😊 It’s enough for me.
quickcrete, and flex seal are great products and you will have to find out where and how the water is coming in, dig a drain away from the cabin. love moss green on a cabin great idea . agree with what the others are saying about eve trough's then some big O tubing off the down spout directed away from the cabin , screen vent yes , looking forward to see what you do , your very talented
I agree with other subscriber water proof rubber based paint great start. If water still comes in,I would weld false floor on 4 legs, and drop in,just above Damp level.Naturally you will have smaller Cellar
The cabin is looking great
I agree with the comments below Flex Seal is a wonderful product that will fix your problem. The Flex Seal Liquid seals out air, water and moisture and is mildew resistant.
Hi Vanessa there is a paint product that is a concrete sealer used in basements that would work for you.
I am not sure what materials your cellar is made of other than concrete but the best way to insulate it from water ingress is to provide a durable plastic layer on the outside of the cellar walls if this has not been incorporated in between the foundation and the upper walls. Most houses today especially in the UK use this dividing layer to prevent ‘rising damp’ since the water was wicked up in the bricks in old Victorian homes that did not have this separation layer.
INCRÍVEL.ESPETACULAR.MARAVILHOSA
They make a concrete sealer for basements you paint on with a brush or roller. They sell it by the gallon.
Vanessa, I'm not a handygirl....but my first thought for that cellar, a fitted wood crate with short legs....line the crate with styrofoam or a thicker tin foil ? or buy a camping cooler with lid and let it sit into the space. I love the wood shelf very tidy and perfect size.
Here in Iowa, wood prices have dropped again. Supplies are good and the shelves are full!
It’s maybe too late, but when you’re filling gaps to stop mice you shove in steel wool and then the expanding foam . Just a suggestion.. nice don’t and can’t eat though the steel wool
Good luck xx Ontario Canada
Great job Vanessa. Finn
There is a product called “dry lock “ u paint it all around the whole thing 3,4 coats It goes into the cement and seals water tight floor and walls and for the mice issue where u sprayed that foam now cover it with cement cus mice will eat through that foam I sure would love to go camping with u and ur kids and our dogs and to learn from u as much as U would learn me if looks as if ur body has fought off most of that tick stuff
For wine cellar Try Flex seal or set solar powered small 12v water pump if the place filled with water they will trun on automatically and you can collect that water. You can use or just dump it.
Great video, just so you can learn more words, the gr in progress sounds like the gr in ground or growl.
have a great day
Great work Vanessa 👍🇵🇭
When I suggested a shutter box, it doesn't need a bottom in it just the sides as the bottom is filled with either concrete or cement on top of the membrane. Hope that makes sense? Arthur (UK)
Excellent! ❤️
Take care ✌️
You can try to seal the basement or cement it in, but you are fastidious so I think those things will help to keep it dry but won't be "clean". I suggest that you build an interior box that will float over the floor and stay away from the side walls. You can line the outside with waterproof wrap and then lower it into the hole attaching the sides to treated studs you have previously attached to the floor and/or walls using masonry screws or a Ramset nailer. You can probably rent the tools you need to do this. The inside of the box can be painted white for easy viewing of what you have in the cellar, plus he paint will help to seal it in even better. If you will be placing a lot of weight in the cellar, then you can sit the box on treated 4x4 lumber cut to fit and laid flat on the ground for ease of installation. Good luck and I hope you can use some of these suggestions.
