Vanessa, I lived a year in Germany back in 1970/1971 and schnitzel was my favorite food. I ate it every chance I could and I also loved bratwurst. I miss those days. lol

I used to ride my motorcycle from Pennsylvania down to West Virginia, camping in the woods and photographing the waterfalls. There was a restaurant and beer brewery near there that the lady and her family was from Germany. I loved that place with authentic German food! Just like you make! That was about 10 years ago and haven't had food like that since.

This reminded me of my great grandma who was born over over 100 yrs ago in East Prussia. She cooked great snitzle, among many other Germanic culture dishes.
It's the perfect meal for October Fest time.

That is a great video! Loved how Johannes was so helpful in peeling those potato’s and good with that knife! You have taught him well! My memory from my Oma is that she used to steam the potatos, let them cool off on the kitchen windowsill,then peel them. She used the “Hobler”, thus making the potato’s very thin. The same with the cucumber,then added diced white onion, vinegar, oil, salt, pepper and Maggi( the secret ingredient!) After mixing she would add some tepid(room temperature) water, which would add a nice glaze to the salad. Neither my Mom nor I have been able to dublicate her 😅! Lord knows we tried!😂😂😂 Those are fond memories from my time in Germany! Looking forward to more your kitchen adventures!!

When I got to Germany in January of 09 I think we was outside of amburg i can’t remember some restaurant and I ordered my first schnitzel omg!!!I was in love with my German heritage cuisine lol and another reason why I put on my “dream” duty stations Germany twice lol. I do miss Germany a good bit sigh so watching your videos makes me feel like I’m still there a bit❤️😍 I do miss grafenwohr too where I was because of the semi rural area not a huge hustle and bustle city. I’d take walks around town just to get off base and bike rides to relax.

Your right about deep fryers I throw one out and then bought another to do some chips about a year later and in the morning I throw that one out as well.The smell of it in the kitchen was enough for me.
