Just saw it. I’m speechless. Such a masterpiece. Almost 4 hours, never wanted to end.

Watching it tonight
I want to watch it but it looks like a REALLY LONG movie.
@@kosta2702 WOW! That is a very long movie.
I HAVEN'T SEEN IT!!!! and thought I seen every gangster film, Scorsese flick, and Coppola masterpiece made!! HOW did I miss this????!!!
"As boys, they said they would die for each other. As men, they did."
One of the best loglines I've ever read.
It was a hint. According to Leone, Deniro's character plus his friends die in the 1930's by those mobsters looking for them. Rest of movie is his mind high on opiates trying to forget his guilt...right before he gets killed. I wondered why Debra still looked young and why 1960's NY still looked like 1930's, plus other things. Now I get it.
@@sp-yj5wryes that is indeed true
@@sp-yj5wr I like to think that it's open to interpretations, it's neat that both options can be correct at the same time
The greatest film ever made. Amazing that such a long movie leaves you wanting more. First saw it many years ago, but it never gets old. No matter how many times I watch it, I never want it to end.
This movie is really underrated. It got completely snubbed by the oscars. The studio were idiots not to release the original cut as is. Definitely a case of the studio ruining the movie.
Agree BEST mob friendship film ever created
What part of the film industry do you work for?
Has it been released yet? What’s the difference between that and the current release so far?
@@al112v4 right now a 4 hour 10 minutes version is available online. That is the uncut version, Leone's orignal vision. It's without a doubt one the greatest films you'll ever see.
Dawson Djodvorj Oh okay. Online only? Would love to have it on Blu-ray or 4K.
Crazy how the ending puts everything into context and turns it into such a compelling watch on the second go around. One of the greater experiences I've ever had watching a film.
To Ennio Morricone 1928-2020, you're the most infulencial composers of all time.
Thanks for the music in decades including this classic gangster films and westerns as well.

@@Denzel_Washington it's not but that's how powerful this movie is 😅
god damn with the regrets I carry I better not.
Tf was you a serial rapist
Be happy you have time to regret. According to Leone, Deniro's character dies in the 1930's by those mobsters, so he had guilt but no time for regret. Movie was mostly his dreams (high on opiates) before he was shot. (Hints -Debra still looking young, 1960's NY still looking like 1930's, etc)
Woods should have won best supporting actor for this film. One of the best performances of all time.
He played Carl Panzram
tuesday weld also, mind you it won nothing in the oscars,
Spencer Dobkin funny how Woods is now known as right wing extremist and De Niro a staunch liberal. De Niro proved to be the better actor of the two though.

I love that scene where DeNiro character is old and that song "Yesterday" plays....and then when the phone rings across time.
That’s crazy because the phone ringing has always driven me up the wall…
@@noxzillaswoonswerthy6429 me too 🤦♀️
@@388Caroline I’ll go one step further. I think the movie would’ve been more popular if it wasn’t for that polarizing goddamn annoying phone ringing for ten straight minutes… in fact all of Leone’s strange choices with the camera and the editing were unwarranted and took me out of the film. It’s a gangster pic and it’s trying to be coffee house artsy and then it’s long winded, uneventful, and finally unmemorable.
@@noxzillaswoonswerthy6429 Maybe Sergio Leone didn't try to make a "popular" film?
Ah the Beatles "Yesterday" moves us across time again.....
Robert Dinero as an old man, going back to another time through a phone call, great transport scene and the song playing is timeless.

One of the best Gangsta / crime movies ever made !
Agreed!
godfather series are better than it a lot
Better than godfather!
The Godfather *is* better than OUATIA...but *just* barely. This film is f***ing extraordinary in every way. It is art, made into cinema.
no, OUATIA is better than godfather,
Godfather is masterpiece too but OUATIA is just too good.
This is the best trailer of the 1980s. A grand masterpiece of filmmaking by the late legendary director Sergio Leone. Best assembled cast members, great well written script also greatest performances from the entire cast. This is truly and visually a masterpiece. Great trailer.
Have watched this movie 100 times. It always tears me up..
I was already in tears before watching this again now. 🥺
To me the movie looks older than it really is
It always does that. In other movies too
agreed
DUHHH its a period piece done in the 80s lol
@Rocknrolladube Yeah I think because even though it was done in the 80s they are depicting the late 60s in the film with reference from earlier times so thats probably why.
Thats because it was set in the past
What a masterpiece. Every plan, every.. everything is on the millimeter, nothing supefluous. Dialogs, acting, photo..
The greatest movie of all time that some people may have missed. I didn't, am glad!
Joe Pesci is listed as 4th in the starring order yet he's hardly in it!
LochMorar i feel his parts were edited out. because his appearances through out the movie does leave room for questions
this movie was supposed to be 6 hours long. his parts got cut out
jason b it was originally 10 hours but got cut to 6 then 3
Leone gave Pesci a choice, he could play any role he liked. The role he chose however was largely cut out.
A shame he wasn’t in it more, he’s in one scene then appears for a couple of seconds later on
Probably the best picture made in Hollywood! Score, complexity, acting, genre, filming locations, costumes!!!
First i saw the 139 minutes version and was disappointed. But the uncut version is best
Hollywood put only the money....the idea and the realization are italian..... and it has been filmed everywhere except Hollywood
See godfather 1 and 2. Are better
And without the deafening synthesizers crap we're getting today.

Ennio Morricone & Sergio Leone worked on the soundtrack together for years.
Everything about this movie is amazing and you'll be stunned, amused, in awe and horrified.
Oh! Make sure you have Tissues handy, be prepared to shed hot tears!

However, if you are prepared and able to be undistributed for the nearly 4 hours that this film uses to compress a lifetime -- you will be rewarded with many facets of thought and examination - unquote
This is one of the best movies + it gives you the Godfather movie vibe..
Thank so much for this I almost skipped this movie after watching trailer. I'll check it out!
Holy smokes I just watched it for the first time. A wave of thoughts. But I guess the one overriding thought is how crazy those generations lives were. Those born 1880-1905. Fought or saw two World Wars went from horse drawn carriages to automobiles and planes. Just nuts the extent of change they saw. Not sure if any generation alive today will see that amount of change. Maybe 2-3 generation from now will. That soundtrack is mesmerizing. It takes you back to those time periods.

I guess you're arent familiar with the term known as "opinion".
I think the 4 hour 10 minute version of Once upon a time in America is the greatest movie ever after The Godfather. And its not just me there are so many more people that will agree with me.
Swadaya Tani hell no Once Upon a Time in America is far superior and plus the good the bad and the ugly isn’t even the best film in it s own trilogy
A masterpiece of world cinema, with a capital letter. In my opinion, the best work of the genius Sergio Leone, in which he invested all of himself.
And then, lying on his death bed, he had to watch the US theatrical distributor cut it down to 2 hours and re-arrange the narration into chronological order. It's almost Van Gogh level sad.
An old guy who owned a newsagents in Pelton Chester le Street told me to watch it around 1990 he had a red lotus europa, I called in to see him in 2009 sadly passed away I'll thank him when I see him one day.
This is not just a film
this is the history !!!
Until this very day, whenever i hear the Main Theme, i break down in tears and im a very difficult cryer.. thank you Leone, Thank you Morricone, and most importantly, thank you Zamfir for the iconic Cockeye Serenade ❤
This was more of a story about friends and success than gangsters
Still in the end everybody is dead or unhappy typical ending for gangsters
This is a really long movie.. But you won't be bored for a single minute while watching it. And after you finish this movie you will start to feel like the movie should have been longer than it is.

Bad Trailer for this masterpiece
+Raul Olivares Santos I just ordered the movie And not knowing of what is was about! Is really good?
BETTER THAN THE GODFATHER
The Watcher Why do you say that?
+kakashi101able best movie ever made, I hope you ordered 3h 50 min version
+The Watcher I'm sorry, but the Godfather really isn't about redemption at all. I completely agree that downfall is an important theme, but I feel the Godfather is about the abrasiveness of being swept into a criminal organization and the consequences of the choice. The Godfather Part 2 is really the film that deals with the downfall aspect of Michael's life. Once Upon A Time In America is, I think, the better film because Sergio Leone paints such a thought-provoking and real picture of the mob. Goodfellas is often proclaimed to be the most realistic mafia film ever made; The Godfather being the most romanticized and epic in scope. Once Upon A Time hits a perfect medium between the two because (no surprise for Leone) it paints a story with such grandeur and romance, while using that, along with Ennio Moricone's incredible score, to foreshadow the tragedy to come. The film has characters that are shown from childhood to adulthood, which turn into terrible people with little redeeming qualities and sympathy; the growth and plummet into greed and viciousness is a true testament to the realistic, unrelentless evil of the mob. The Godfather is a great film, but it focuses too much on honor and loyalty, which looking at the history of the mob, is a very unreal aspect of the film (maybe the reason because, true or not, The Godfather never once mentioned the word 'mafia' because the mafia wouldn't want to ruin their image). I really can't fault Goodfellas, but I think the size and poetry of OAATIA along with having the realism and rawness of Goodfellas has to be commended.
One of the best movies of the 80s. Flawless.
This movie is one of the greatest movies I’ve ever seen in my life and I’ve seen thousands and thousands
"There they are, the four horsemen of the apocalypse." Still my fav line of any mob film ever.

The music reminds me of the music used in the Lion King and a little bit from anime like Naruto and Naruto Shippuden.
The "Yesterday " song from the Beatles is so appropriately used when Noodles thinks about the past!

Why do you always go onto every single movie trailer from 1980 to 1984, as well as I'm assuming 1960 to 1962, to quote what The Cinema Snob said on them during his "In Film" retrospectives?
Interesting fact: Sergio was offered the chance to direct the Godfather (back in 72) and passed it up. It was his chance to redefine gangster movies just like he did for the westerns and as he admitted, it was one of his biggest regrets.
That's why fron 71 until 84 he never directed anything else, he waited for the right movie to atone for his mistake and thus a masterpiece was born.
One of the best movie that was ruin for the non - publicity
