I’ve had one of these for over a year. Be aware that it is 6x fixed optical magnification. Digital zoom (5x) takes it to 30x. I use mine on a pcp airgun looking through a Holosun red dot 1x sight. It sees the dot in both daylight and IR modes. Dialing in the target is done on the Holosun. I just have to tap the Rightguarder a bit to keep the dot centered. At ir1 at 15 yards I see the target just fine. If I were to change one thing, it would be to change the direction of the IR cycling. It goes daylight > ir3 > ir2 > ir1 > ir0 > daylight. I would go daylight > ir0 etc.
Hi Edward! I am Holly, and I am hoping that you can help me...Have you used the video function at all while looking at the stars/satellites, etc? I am SO hoping that you have. I was wondering if the video function actually worked. Unfortunately, over the last 7 yrs I bought 2 of the 12 survivors monoculars that supposedly record, but the 1st attempted to record once, and the second one records for a few minutes, but as soon as you hit the record button, it becomes very, very dark and shaky....a completely different picture that when you are simply just viewing. It is so frustrating. The SiOnyx is a nice camera, but it only magnifies once or twice, so it isn't enough. I was hoping this would work for me as I box up the SiOnyx to return. It takes GORGEOUS video, but I need to be able to see the stars and other things that move in the sky that you cannot see with the naked eye for my job.Thank you so much for your time.
Holly, I just don’t know. I have only used the video record function a couple of times to see if it basically worked, and never used it for star gazing. It’s morning here now, but if the sky is clear tonight I’ll give it a try.
Here on the coast it’s frequently overcast, and it was tonight too. All to see was a very bright, too bright, moon. If I think about it when we get a clear night I’ll try again.
@@RightWingNutter we have some CRAZY unprecedented ufo activity on the pacific NW coast right now. It has been going on for a few months and just keeps getting heavier. You don’t really believe that Bushnell makes their own night vision products, do you? All these companies outsource the manufacture to some Asian assembly line and slap their own brand on it.
Great review. I really hope Bestguarder steps up and gives us a good night vision scope designed to be mounted onto a rifle to work in front of the red dot. I don't think they're that far away.
Not too bad for someone who shoots rats a night. They use these types of night vision devices quite successfully in the farms in England where there is a very large rat population. As for the coating, I hope its not the same coating that was used on the Bushnell Sports Radar guns or some of the Sears Craftsmen IR thermometers. After about 12 years of use the coating became sticky and gooey. It had to be removed with denatured alcohol so one could continue to use the items. For those serious preppers, I would not recommend this for protection of your property since it uses an active light source. You will give away your position to those using professional night vision devices that amplify even the slightest bit of light. This is a great tool to tech your kids about night vision devices and yes the newer Gen"4" devices are vial able with the white background instead of the typical green but costing an additional $3000 plus.
That’s a great review. Would be nice for predator hunting. Scan with that until you spot a fox or coyote then transition to the red light on the gun. Won’t spook game as much as scanning with a red light and you only point your rifle at known target animals. May have to get one!

Most people think of that actual green night vision as night vision because it is real Night vision... What you are hold in your hand works as a type of night vision but is not in any way real night vision,. What you have in your hand is basically a camera with ccds inside that are sensitive to ultraviolet light placed in a cool looking package. Real night vision intensifies existing light. You don't need an infrared emitter mounted on the unit. Real night vision can't be detected by other cameras. Nightowl has real nightvision that's great stuff for less than 200 bucks. I'm not saying that what you have is no good... because I'm sure it works but it is Hell on batteries.. The green type of nightvision can operate on 2 AA batteries for 3 weeks straight.
Excellent job brother. You mentioned having used other models and that they did not have the record feature. I'm not really interested in that feature. Can you tell me the make/model of those units? Thanks in advance.
