No idea how this ended in my YT feed, but glad it did. In the UK we have a racing series called the ‘Iconic Cup’. It’s run at a few clubs across the country and features old school Rc cars….mainly Tamiya based…but everything from original front wheel drive M chassis to F1 cars….and believe me they are great fun….it’s like travelling back in time seeing all these old school cars in action…and just like yours, the only things that we’ve changed is the switch to 2.4 ghz (but some still use the original tx/rx) and lipo batteries. It was great to watch you clean up and race your vintage buggy mate…to me these are like seeing classic race cars still racing are on track. Awesome work 👍👏👏👏😎
Paused at 3:35, just to make some toast. . Ok, you can carry on now. And yep, good consistent driving can make a big difference to the outcome of any race! I never won many back in the day ('85 0nwards) But for me it's all about the fun of running your cars around the track. I've raced on dirt, short cut grass, carpet, polished wood, plastic tiles, Lino, concrete, tarmac etc etc. Jumps or flat surfaces also determine how you set up the car, and the fun is seeing how it goes, or not! 😁 I still have my RC10 gold chassis from nearly 20 years ago, (I did have one in the late 80's but sold it). And I still have my fave of all time, the RC10 T2! With a 7 cell nimh pack it could catch up with the 1/8 nitro cars!
Pretty sure I had one of the very first model Novak ESC’s made in the early 90’s. It was hot shit back then. Used it in my Blackfoot, Traxxas Hawk and my Losi LXT. I ran it in everything I had and it lasted forever
I agree, I just bought a used RC10b5m in nice condition. It's a roller, so I'm gonna get all jewelry electronics and race it at a local club race. Do you think it can still be competitive?
Several years ago the RC10 Re-releases were announced. Our local track introduced a vintage class. Stock 17.5 turn motors and the buggies had to be at least 15 years old. I brought out my RC10 Gold Pan CE that I raced years ago. I put a B4 top gear in the old stealth so I can run the V2 slipper, I used B4 hubs, and B3 CVDs so I can run modern wheels and tires. I put some Bar codes all the way around and raced. I placed 2nd both race nights but the lack of people for the vintage races caused them to disband the class. I still have the car together and it runs great. No issues with it at all.
Holy crap! A RC-10...been awhile since I've seen one of those. I remember the original that had an aluminum tub for the main chassis. Great job on the shock rebuild stand you created :) Great to see some new content from you....I need to get off my a$$ and make some new videos. I finally installed a "Mr. Cool" HVAC unit in the garage and it works great to keep the space comfortable and it works much better than expected so some new content will be on the way soon. "really really careful"...lol NFW. Throw a 3S lipo in that thing and you will do well (until it melts). Cheers, Jeff (Garage Maker Guy)
I had two original gold-pan RC10s but sold them about 20 years ago. Didn't think I'd miss them. Now I don't get rid of anything, even stuff that's worthless. Looking forward to your new videos (whenever you get off your a$$ and make them, that is. LOL). I know how it is. Hard to find the time and/or motivation sometimes. Speaking of content, I didn't see you submit an entry for our slot car road sign giveaway. Slater and I will be filming the vid for winners tomorrow so you still have time to enter, if you are interested, that is.
Too bad you don't live by me I have 10 of them in the package!! I buil t an original rc10 a B2 a B3 and a B4 from the ground up with all the best parts available and buying off of eBay I got some extras
Had to pause at the 9 minute mark to ask...."Salami, what the hell happened to that jacket? Slater push you into a wood chipper?"..... OK. Resuming video now.
Unfortunately, my first exposure to AE was the first generation RC10GT about 1996. Lots of shortcomings on that vehicle. I needed to implement a bunch of hacks that the factory drivers came up to keep it from falling apart. Stuff like adding set screws to keep the hinge pins in place, stiffening the chassis where the motor mounted to keep from stripping spur gears, and shrink wrapping the CVDs so the pin wouldn't back out and slice off the a-arm. Definitely a lot of improvement with their design since then and Associated stuff is now rock solid.
Yeah, such a shame it all came to an end the way it did. An excellent, family-run business that just couldn't compete any longer, and closed up shop and was gone in an instant. True American innovation. Wish we still had that "stuff," these days.
Wow forgot all about Novak, I used to drool over their Brushless systems at a time when everyone was running brushed cans. I think they were one of the first to kick things off in RC?
They do go way back. Started in 1978. They were a huge part of the R/C car community for 38 years. Manufactured everything in the USA, too. Turns out they weren't bought out, which I incorrectly assumed, but from what I can gather, they just simply closed up shop in 2016. Not sure why. Too bad, though.
@@johnniehobby Bob died and the quality of components used fell off a cliff. Their speed controls became super unreliable. I went through 2 that lasted a grand total of aprox. 60 seconds. Bob cared, his kids didn't and ran it into the ground. It's a shame what happened IMO.
suspension of wheels is AAAlways sucking like this ... the only RC stuff i know about that is nice and stiff is with Pan Cars .. 1/8scale mostly i guess the smaller newer stuff also ... their chassis is more similar to those high end slot cars , these metal frames
After reviewing the raw footage I determined that Backscratcher was the hack responsible for the second camera strike. The first was a guy I am now nicknaming "Swerve" who found himself trapped on the infield, meandering around until he ran over the camera pylon. And then meandered around for another 15 seconds after that until he figured out how to get back on the track.

16:05 in the world of electronics i feel like vintage is anything older than about 10 years. they age much faster than just about anything.
Couldn't agree more.
Doesn't matter to me how old or slow an rc is as long as there's fun to be had with great people!
Exactly! There are guys that don't even have RC cars show up on race night just to hang out with everybody. Always a good time.
@@johnniehobby And that's what it's all about great people having a great time....Love it....

Looks like something else to get me in trouble with the old lady. You guys know how to have fun. As always thanks for the video I really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the comment.
Awesome! I built a B2 back then. Neat to see it's still competitive. Looking forward to more B2 vids.
Right on!
Much better than you'd have thought 👍
13:54 lol i thought you had a camcorder or something like that. a gopro would take hit at 50mph and just bounce off like nothing happened
cool lol track where is it ?
Great idea! Looks like that was alot of fun.
Always a blast hanging out with friends and racing, even if I were to come in last. Not that it ever happens, I can just only imagine ;)
“A cascade of failures…” Hahaha! 😂 Great video buddy. The old girl did not too bad!
That was really good for a 27 year old car.

Pretty cool wing mount , my b3 is missing it's wire and wing so maybe I'll try a similar set up

It's my favorite jacket and just wore it out. Funny thing is that Slater has the same Carhartt and his looks worse than mine if you can believe it.
Wish I had a rc that actually ran. Not long ago sold a rc10t4. It was a nice car, had lots of fun with it.
Voltage cut-off was not needed before Lipo batteries were used.
I have a original rc10t stadium truck. I want to run it and see what I can do.
Excellent! Let us know how it goes.
i think the wing would look like the traxxis bandit

Who was Bob Novak? Bob Novak invented the brushed ESC!

I am sure you meant to say wheel instead of rim because the rim is a component of the wheel
I'd say any RC from the last century is definitely vintage.
Sounds like a reasonable baseline. That makes many of my other cars vintage as well.
Get video! 😝👍🏼
Thanks!
Looked good. Try again after you go it up a little
Not sure what "go it up a little" means, but I'll being trying again after I do whatever that is. I got this! LOL.
Hop it up. Darn typo lol
Sell me that old buggy 🙌🏾
Pretty sure from the front arms and ball joint kingpins thats a b3 not a b2.
Good eye, B2 front cross brace mounts up against the bulkhead, the B3 it mounts in front of the a arms. I had to go and look at my Factory Team B2.
