Well said, good video. These films deserve a new scan from the OCN. It's as simple as that. Despite what some people want to believe and falsely put out there, there is no verifiable reason why these didn't get a new scan. The Abyss is the most tolerable along with Titanic but both have issues that would've been avoided with a new scan to say nothing of the other disastrous releases.
What scan did they use for the Abyss? I thought the last release was way back in DVD. The scan can’t be that old can it?
@@thischannelisdeleted Nobody knows, yet.
I don't know why this isn't widely known, but in the infamous Universal fire weren't just Universal's film masters to get lost, but pretty much all of the major studios had some masters stored in there. If we don't get new scans for 4K versions, it's very likely that the masters got lost there, meaning that could be the case for these Cameron movies as well. One I'm 100% sure got lost in there is Armageddon, which is the reason why we don't even have a decent Blu-Ray/HD scan.
Luckily, with AI now it's possible to get new digital masters from commercial prints, issue is most of them have been stored like sh*t or have degraded, so it would involve the same restoration process usually reserved to really old films before scanning it and feeding it to AI to refine it (not necessarily clean it from noise like Cameron did for these). In other words, it's a very expensive process that doesn't guarantee a result.
Luckily again, though, studios seems to want to push physical again, so who knows. I sure as hell know I'd love me a 4K restoration of Armageddon.
@@lukeripa NO AI!!!!! 😡😡😡😡
@@thischannelisdeleted So, in me describing a process that involves extensive human work and research and only use AI to refine, you only read AI?
This film looks amazing in 4K, cannot wait for mine to arrive
Incredible in-depth report. Thanks so much. My copy arrived today so I’ll check it out later.
Thanks. Enjoy
Superb analysis, great work. So thorough and well explained.
Great work! Thx for the reviews.
Thanks a lot
Great report! Thank you👋👍
Thank you for this video 🙏🏼 Very insightful and informative!
Fantastic work as usual.
Your UHD Blu-ray analysis never misses! Thank you.🙏
Thanks a lot ☺️
Exceptional analysis, well done!
Superb, as always!
Thanks 🙏
Great stuff! Thanks!
This is the only one of the new Cameron "4K" discs I am actually interested in getting - but it is *way* too expensive right now... everywhere I look it costs €40+€10 postage so nearly €50 for the disc!... remember new 4K discs used to be maximum €25 each! The UK ban has screwed me here... normally get the official UK releases. Buying from Europe/USA is way too much now.
Picked it up from Spain for £26
Another good video! I liked the AI voice in the Top 10 video part 2 better. Thanks!
Thanks a lot
I’m enjoying this disc, not usually a fan of so much grain removal but overall it’s a nice picture. Is it just me or are the black levels a bit lifted in many scenes? It’s a bit inconsistent. Sometimes they’ll be inky and other scenes they’re raised with a blue hue in them.
Outstanding analysis! Thankyou! I miss your voice though :)
Thanks a lot. Too complicated for me sorry
best tests available as usual :) still weird to hear the generated voice now instead of your french accent ;) but I guess it's much more efficient than having to do the work twice
This voice is generated???
@@thischannelisdeleted to be honest I do not know, maybe someone is doing it for him but it's not his own voice as earlier videos
Hello yes voice is pure ai unfortunately. It’s really a pain for me but these video took more than 100 hours of work. I do French version first when it comes to English it’s way to much time consuming and effort for such bad results
So I prefer that way
This is a great transfer, both image and sound. However, I personally thought the bass was lacking. This is also me drawing from memory from the old laserdisc editions on an older system i had atm. Even my mate, who watched this new version with us, thought the bass was also lacking.
why nobody's doing fullscreen restorations?
No one ever said Cameron shouldn't be allowed to make these changes to his films. Where did anyone say that? Of course he can do what he wants to his films but that does not make him exempt from criticism. No artist is above criticism
So what ?
He wouldnt be as critized if he put his ego aside and gave us two versions. An archival, more historic presentation of how the movie looked and his bullshit digital tampering on a different disc.

James Cameron does what he wants .
Really enjoyed this 4K disc. Unfortunately the encoding of the US discs are dreadful causing freeze-ups and pixellation in spots on affected cases. I returned mine and will just wait until there is an alternative version as opposed risk having to keep returning crap US discs.
stay cool? STAY COOL?!!!!..... ok
I dont care what you say. I cant wait to get my copy of this 4K.
And you are perfectly right don’t let anyone prevent you to enjoy a movie you like.
no ones is telling u what u must do😂 viewers here also don't care what u have to say.
*PromoSM* 💕
I watched The Abyss for the first time and I watched the Special Edition due to the overwhelming reccomendations and I was vastly disappointed with that crap at the end. The theatrical cut is superior.
The theatrical cut is inevitably better than the special edition since we don't see the guy who gets his pants pulled down during the giant wave . 😂
@thischannelisdeleted
Yes! 100% agree.
Since I first saw the exteneded version many years ago I always thought it was ridiculous.
Stick with the theatrical cut and watch the better non silly version.
Havent got the 4K yet (looks like a no release in AUS) so Ill have to pay more and import it at some point.
Only interviewing James Cameron we'll get the right answers.
Exactly that’s why I do not affirm anything like so many other people
I know that we don’t know
There must be a reason to all this issues. But so many parameters 🤷🏻♂️
@@LELABODEJAY I own those three releases since VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, those who made it to Blue Ray (True Lies Spain) and now 4k. Very happy we have it finally released. This hobby. is to enjoy it. Glad I found your channel too.
This is the problem the average person also doesn't understand, that you bring out perfectly. Films shot 30/40yrs ago wete never meant to be seen in HDR because it didnt exist. And each master from each movie will be different based on the year it was shot with the tech used at that time. There are just so many variables that go into remastering a photochemically shot film in 4K that people just do not understand
Maybe go and read about how much dynamic range can be captured on film before spreading more nonsense?
Jesus, dude, let it go!
People didn't like your reviews, move on!
By people do you mean you? Didn't you also spread the nonsense that True Lies had a damaged OCN?
You need to STFU while the adults are talking bruv
Yeah that was him. If “average person doesn’t understand “ explain it. Isnt that the point of a comparison ? Jay 100% explains it so everyone understands. Even you. Instead of spreading fake news, maybe work on setting your ego aside and start making honest content .
Thank you
Merci 🙏 je savais qu’elle te plairait celle là ☺️
