As someone that uses Ai video tools quite a lot I definitely think it was used here but not to the extent people think. Most of the shots look like traditional DNR with some sharpening and other techniques applied liberally on top. But there are a few that scream AI to me namely at 6:27 If you look at his face in UHD you can see some crosshatched wrinkle patterns on his cheek along with some vein like structures on his chin, not visible in the Hulu version. @@MsMarco6 Are you familiar with the Spanish blu-ray? It’s a rough transfer but overall a better experience for me. I also think the 5.1 hits harder than the Atmos.
@@Selrisitai That's explained by DNR. If you erase film grain there's nothing underneath so the algorithm has to fill in with surrounding material, blurring the area and creating an impressionistic look. Ai meanwhile doesnt have that problem especially not with hair. It's trained on video of real hair and so can fill in the blanks with plausible detail leaving the hair looking more detailed than in the source video. So the oil painting like look is more evidence of non Ai techniques. Ai artefacts in hair would be things like strange patterns in the hair or strands that weren't there originally.
I wonder if there was an issue with the cameras while filming, perhaps it looked in proper focus in the viewfinder but somehow wasn't actually in focus when it went on film? Or maybe whoever was behind the camera needs some glasses? That is really weird to me to have so many shots slightly out of focus. Also, could they have possibly not used an original super 35mm or 70mm print? Maybe they used a bad print before doing the cleaning up work? Great job on noticing that! Really good video!

@@LELABODEJAY It's just a weird thing to me to have scenes ever so slightly out of focus. Looks nothing like what I remember in the theater. Saw it on opening night and remember being utterly blown away by the visuals. This 4K just felt wanting in virtually all aspects.
Excellent analysis. I was wondering what the reasoning was behind some of the tinkering. It wasn’t to scrub grain because the grain’s still there, in some scenes exacerbated by the tinkering. The explanation that mistakes were made in hitting focal points correctly makes a lot of sense. And the highlight clipping annoyed me as well. It’s an odd release, for sure, but not entirely a travesty. A good 60% of the movie looked ok and I enjoyed watching it. Interesting that the Hulu version looks better… Keep up the great work!
The Lowry master (the old Amazon and Disney+ prints) does not suffers from Cameron's overprocessed video image. This should have released earlier on the Blu instead of an AI upscaled mess. And it deserves to be rescanned into actual 4K, not godawful AI upscaling placed as "restoration" and DNR at the same time.
Oh no, not my boy James Cameron... I think he just got excited with the power of AI and wanted to get the most out of the scan. I can clearly see the AI struggling with the distant faces, as well as the face textures, which are mistaken by noise and then smoothed out, so you get that very non-homogeneous picture. The focus problem is probably the AI not being able to track all the faces properly, which cause some to get sharpened, and some don't. Funny enough, if the master was too degraded, maybe scanning the D-VHS version to digital could've have turned out better, who knows.
This is another example of why 4K remasters are not always better. I am lucky in that i have this film in all the various media that it was released in including the Laserdisc DTS which was released in 1998, this for me shows this film at it's best with few of the issues highlighted in this review. I am rapidly loosing faith in 4K releases of older films, they are making a mess of them Plains.Trains & Automobiles is another example of how to ruin a good film.

Turn off the HDR and the 4K blu-ray looks amazing. Also, in the spanish blu-ray you can see a boom mic at the beginning film's credits that it has been removed in the 4K Blu-ray: 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
(10:34) Also, in my 4k 3d projector, 3 meters long screen, you can not see all those focus problems so clearly. So perhaps, it's due that the displays you use, or not. We had a 35mm print here in la filmoteca, it looks almost the same but without grain and more detail in certain shots. The color grading is almost the same. 🤷🏻
Thank you ! Comment for the UA-cam algorithm. Could you please do a review in your style of Terminator 2 4K HDR versus Terminator 2 3D Blu-ray? The 3D Blu-ray even if you strip the amazing 3D and watch in 2D is less processed and without teal and orange, and there is no comparison to 3D Blu-ray nowhere in the internet. I discovered it by accident doing my own side by side 4K vs 3D.
I've got 70-year-old eyes and ears. This was an absolute pleasure to watch last weekend with friends. Could it have been better? Of course it could. The ATMOS track made it worth the upgrade for me.
It's clear that the negative was fine, they just weren't happy with out of focus shots in 4K, and decided they could fix them but instead made it much worse. Let this be an example to other studios doing 4K remasters. Even out of focus those shots look better than ever before, so why butcher it with AI and try to add information that isn't present? And how does this get an HDR/Dolby Vision stamping with such terrible blacks, and highlights. Shame... If they did this movie the right way, it would have been fine.
Well the other releases were the best the films have ever looked especially Titanic, but this is all thats going to be with this release and it's a world better than dvd so I'm going to get it and whatever I'll let you guys pick it apart and bitch. I'm just going to enjoy having it

Funny enough, if the master was too degraded, maybe scanning the D-VHS version to digital could've have turned out better, who knows.
watched last night and yeah too clean was my first tough cant say i am happy but still best what can be bought but was hoping more =,(
Pretty good content!
This is another example of why 4K remasters are not always better.
I am lucky in that i have this film in all the various media that it was released in
including the Laserdisc DTS which was released in 1998, this for me shows this film
at it's best with few of the issues highlighted in this review.
I am rapidly loosing faith in 4K releases of older films, they are making a mess of them
Plains.Trains & Automobiles is another example of how to ruin a good film.
A very useful and informative video but the irony of someone questioning the choice to use A.I video processing via an A.I audio narration where every 5th word is inaccurately pronounced will not be lost on many!
Thanks for your feedback
I’m French and all my videos are in French. I make this English version to share the content. I’m not fluent and it’s very complex for me to record in English. Try to make a video in French on such complex topics
I don’t like Ai but that’s the only way that I found to make this accessible
Channel is free not monetised
Sorry if it’s not perfect
Regards
Twin Flicks is an example on how to not to a 4K review.
sorry to say that, it's an IA voice record no ?
Unfortunately yes
I am French and it’s to complicated and time consuming for me to record in English
@@LELABODEJAY quick answer, merci pour cette vidéo, aucun souci, la voix est assez monotone mais le contenu est de qualité et au niveau professionnel l'audio n'est pas un problème
@@empGaming_Music_Movies merci 🙏
Turn off the HDR and the 4K blu-ray looks amazing. Also, in the spanish blu-ray you can see a boom mic at the beginning film's credits that it has been removed in the 4K Blu-ray: 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
(10:34)
Also, in my 4k 3d projector, 3 meters long screen, you can not see all those focus problems so clearly. So perhaps, it's due that the displays you use, or not.
We had a 35mm print here in la filmoteca, it looks almost the same but without grain and more detail in certain shots. The color grading is almost the same. 🤷🏻
It seems that the 35 mm negative is fubar my favorite movie fan-freaking-tastic ! I really hope the new transfer of t2 ain't like this ......
T2's 2017 transfer is stunning .
@@natalieportmanfan1817 my condolences

I talked about it in my video on the abyss
These 4 videos were so much work to do don’t know if I have the strength to deep dive into t2
I caved and bought The Abyss 4K because I was desperate to own a copy of the movie. True Lies and Aliens on the other hand is a hard pass.
I've got 70-year-old eyes and ears. This was an absolute pleasure to watch last weekend with friends. Could it have been better? Of course it could. The ATMOS track made it worth the upgrade for me.
This is why I stick with standard blu-ray !
I'm just going to enjoy having it
Our narrator here is not real right? AI voice
Yes sorry for that
I m French. Some of my older video were dubbed by me but it’s too painful and time wasting for such a bad result. That’s why I prefer this method event if I don’t like it
@@LELABODEJAY No apologies necessary. I've gone back to your old stuff and realized. I could understand your English. 😀
Prior to owning the 4K UHD Blu Ray of True Lies, it was the old R1 DVD for me. Now I have the 4K UHD, I cant go back. I'm glad I skipped that Spanish Blu Ray too.
Bailed!!!
F'kin hate bot voices
@@jmartin1885 me too
James Cameron..... George Lucas 2.0 lol
Are you capable of enjoying movies or is your condition a curse and stealer of joy?
I am totally capable of enjoying it and took a great pleasure with this one
Best regards
Is your assumption that we critical people have never seen a movie with a good transfer? I can give you a list. It's pretty long.
Are you deliberately mispronouncing words or is this more AI generated BS.
Hello, I am French, and I want to share this content but don't speak well English and it's quite hard to record on such complex topics. I gave up and use AI voices, Sorry if it's not perfect
Purists will prefer the spanish blu-ray even if it's crap . 😂😂
I know, everybody is free to enjoy what they want
AI voice, and I'm out
Please get someone to do your narration instead of shit ai
Sure, send me the money
I will pay someone to do it
Thank you for this!
