    Cheyenne dies and a moment later the train whistles. The old west goes and the new arrives. Very symbolic.

    Jason Robards was immense in this role. He acts as a kind of narrator, the glue that binds and a bridge between characters. Its a difficult part to play and he is just as good when speaking as he is when not speaking.

    A man of proud character, Cheyennne recognized that he had taken and followed many wrong paths throughout his life and atoned for many of his past misdeeds by working with his followers for the welfare of those too weak to do so to do yourself.
    Atonement in the eyes of heaven,...
    At least I think so.

    I hated to see Cheyenne die. Yes, it was part of his atonement for his past misdeeds, but Harmonica loses his first friend, probably since his older brother was killed by Frank. Also, this must be anvv by alternative versions. I’ve seen this ending where Harmonica reveals Cheyenne’s mortal wound with the front of his revolver and has a look of shock, disbelief, and sadness…a much better version.

    Essentially it’s an opera, a musical: the sound is just so critical -specially the silence of Harmonica…
    Making Henry Fonda the bad guy, is such a genius-move, perhaps less acknowledged now then when it came out.
    Like Lawrence, one has to see this in a cinema. This really doesn’t do justice to the craftsmanship involved.
    But thx for the upload,

      @jnelson16701 Рік тому +5

      Well for one... I don't think there were any doctors in Sweetwater because it was still being built.. and two: he was a wanted man, so even if he could have made it to a town that had a doctor, he would have been arrested or maybe even shot on site. He would have died either way, unfortunately.

      Ah, ah... In fact, that was the biggest and most bizarre script flaw in this great movie. Cheyenne was already injured when he had a long conversation with Jill in the scene before his death... And he never showed any pain... A gross flaw in the script...

    • @jnelson16701
      @jnelson16701 Рік тому +6

      @@georgemendes6844 I think you're wrong. If I remember correctly, there were one or 2 moments where you could see he was in pain from his facial expression. I think he just wanted to hide it from Jill. Also, him riding a horse after he left, even though it was a short ride in itself, I imagine it would have aggravated his wound even worst, which would have made it even more painful.
