- Hello and welcome to Badger Workshop. I have been using these Stanley flatmax cases for years but have never had a way of storing them. So I thought I would use my new router sled to make a shelf for three.
The bench system I used :-

Sneaky little jig worked a treat and the bench dogs!!! Thank goodness you’re getting yourself organised! 🌲🦊🌲🤗 nice build Matt x
Thank you. Its about time I got organised.
Another great idea Matt, looks brilliant “a place for everything” keeps a tidy shop.
Thanks Tom. That is defiantly the way I'm trying to live.
Nice work! Thanks for sharing your video!
What a great little shop project. Nicely executed. 👊👊
Thank you very much
Great project Matt! I've been looking forward to seeing the Jig in action - it works great! I might have to make one myself! Well done Matt 👍
Thank you Phil. Im really pleased with how it turned out.
Brilliant. Love those bins. Cheers
Thanks Tim. They are super handy
Brilliant matt , nice setup.
Thank you very much Billy
Now everything is neat!!! I like that is a project for many uses !!!!!Nice !!!!
I do like a neat shop.
Excellent job mate and brilliant editing too 👍😄
Thank you very much Gary.
Nicely done! I'll have to make one of tbese too, thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you. Im pleased to be more organised
Great vid Matt and really enjoyed the bit about learning from mistakes must admit I had a bit of chuckle at that
Thank you Barney
Like it! Nice, simple, effective, Great job!
Thank you John
Need to make one these also. Glade your putting you'd track system to good use..
Im very pleased with it John. Being able to find things quick makes life so much easier
Badger Workshop yea total agree. I've put of projects before because I didn't want to file around making sure things was straight. Ie like this case shelf..
Nice filming Matt...your shelving is so Adam Savage...totally dope
Thank you. I think it was watching Adams shop tour that made me get those cases in the fist place.
Stick a drawer slide tray at the bottom of the unit then you will always have a place to open a case..If your like me finding a clear space on a bench to open a case is always a challenge then you can push the tray out of sight . cheers John County Durham
Thanks John
Great video Matt, i have those same boxes and mine are piled up under my workbench, and they need to be moved as well. The Gosforth Handyman has a similar set up for his boxes, so it looks like another added to the 'to do' list.
Barry (Wirral, ENG)
Thanks Barry. Mine were under the bench. Its so much better now.
Nice work Matt! We also make loads of mistakes and learn lots! You’d think after a number of projects they’d start to die down a little… 🙄
Thanks. Yes shame it does not seem to work like that
You did a good job making the storage cabinet, mistakes or not you did just fine, and MDF is more than adequate for the purpose,I'll give you my 5 ☆ rating
Thank you Colin
Fantastic!!!! Thats inspired me to join two bits of wood together with dowels. I don't know why
Thats great. I use a lot of dowels myself.
Excellent! Can you make some tutorials on it an how to line them properly and ofcourse easily
You need a set of bras dowel centre markers. They are very cheap
That came out nicely Matt. We all learn from our mistakes.......well.....we are supposed to anyway! :)
They really are the best way to learn.
Nice one Matt
Thank you very much
I am going to make one of these as I also have loads of Stanley boxes.
Im so glad a made this. Much better then them all on top of each other.
Nice job Matt funny thing I am in the middle of making one of those storage units ,but using pallet wood.
Thank you. Should look nice made from real wood.
Jig works a treat.
Im very pleased with it so far.
I always wondered what John Wick did in his spare time. Great little project.
One thing which worked for me on a similar build (kitchen shelves) was to see both sides as one piece and rout out the shelf housings in one pass - as you say, this makes for a perfect match - then do a similar groove up the middle (to house the back), finally, cut the two pieces into half. 18mm must make for a v. solid back! That's going nowhere.
Great video Matt. Personally I hate working with MDF the dust is just terrible and gets everywhere regardless if you got the vac attached to your table saw or router. But it does have it's uses :) nice to see the jig in action.
I don't use it that often for that reason but sometimes its just the best material for the job.
Badger Workshop that's true it does have it's uses
Great job! Loving how that router sled is working out! Don’t forget to tighten the chuck up though! 😂😂😂
I’m assuming you did this all in one day, since you weren’t wearing a hat at the end😂😂👍
Thanks Richard. You are full of great advice. It might have been several days, but too hot for a hat. I did have clean pants on but was not sure UA-cam was ready for that.
Badger Workshop 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hi I made a router sled that adjusted to the width od the mortise and then you just put the line from the jig on where you want to cut and run the router. If you do a search on you tube for "home made adjustable router jig" you will find videos on making the jig. It is not hard to made and is very useful.
Thanks I will have a look.
Won't be long before you'll be making a second! :D
Yes I need one now
haha
You need an impact driver, it will let you leave the drill for drilling and the driver hasn't got a chuck, just a click and go.
I do have one but the chuck is broken. Its a few years old and just deciding if to fix or replace.
Any of us that use Stanley boxes know that they breed overnight. How long before this one gets a twin :-).
I have 4 deep boxes with no home. So yes already planning a second unit.
