Mathilde, suits her Sledge. I think that she's already looking so much better.
Thanks, glad you like it!
That town must have a hate against silence 😂
It's not what I expected when we moved to one of the most rural places you can find 😅 There's weird noises through the night as well, it really definitely sounded like someone was mowing their lawn at midnight the other night
@@Involvod The Catholics of Southern Germany want you to remember that time is parsed out a quarter of an hour at a time. There is no getting away from Father Time! As far as noises in the night: it is probably someone doing something illegal such as spraying a banned pesticide in the field or using a power washer on their car.
The bits with the bells and sirens and band and dogs were all heelarious
Thought so too. Hysterical!
Lovely - the sirens yelling "The Tommies are comin'!" and the churches keep ringing the bell until you protestant Heiden go to the holy mass xD
Nice, well done! In Sweden most of them were scrapped 15 years ago. A friends parents had one of these in saloon form. It was not even 10 years old by the time, everything was disintegrating. All the plastics, clamps, hoses. Power window cogs broke in to bits, engine fan exploded and caused a dent in the bonnet from inside etc and ofcourse *drum roll* rust.
I checked the online classified ads for used cars in Sweden. There are 11 E-class of this vintage for sale (in the whole country!), of which four are road legal (taxed + tested). There are more of the older w123 and w124 for sale and on the road. This was probably not the best era for Benz and they will probably very scarce in the future, thus a classic.
I agree, I think over the next few years there will be a big change. This example is mostly ok overall apart from the body panels of course, but at this age and mileage it may have had all those other problems fixed already!
Bells! Air raid warnings! All you need is that guy with old school lawn mower and it would be a trifecta!
Haha that's a blast from the past! I haven't seen anyone do that since 🤣
Love the plate, DONUT 210. Good pick.
Cheers 😄
Now that’s an improvement! I think my OCD would have forced me to paint those last few “battle scars” though. It’s coming together nicely.
I was quite tempted to, felt weird leaving them, but also draws the eye away from the bad paint job so it's worth keeping 😄
That Merc is looking a LOT better. Preserving the so-called "patina" is not befitting of a Mercedes but that's just my humble opinion. I'm glad my W204 C200 isn't like that. The only serious corrosion on mine was the rear subframe but that was recently replaced under warranty.
The slow descent into insanity with the clock noises is both sad and kind of hilarious! There was a local church that used to have the clock ding every 30 minutes and ding on the hour the amount of hours it was in 24 hour time.
Is it the same for you?
Either way, I love the little restoration on Mathilde! It looks a lot better and should be a great vehicle for the miss and little one!
Keep up the great work as always my friend!
Oh man, luckily this church is on 12 hour time 😅 Thanks Luke I appreciate you stopping by!
Those bells those bells.....got in himmel
Certainly looks a bit better!
Looks a million times better, I do like the few battle scars remaining. Well done you are making a good tank to protect miss Involvo'd and the little one.
Thanks man 👍
Love the big old barge 👌🏻 that’s exactly what I would have done to it ,preserve the cars history but make her look presentable 👍🏻👌🏻😎
Thanks, it's nice to know some people feel the same!
looks loads better, well done
Cheers Mike!
The S210 is a massively important vehicle when it came out. First of the semi modern Mercs. Fixing the surface rust, applying the underseal, the paint on the body and the hub caps have improved it's look 100%. It looks just awesome. Stay focussed though, while you love Volvo's, this period of Merc are a very special car and you'll probably come to love it and the build quality that's gone into them. When you find the time, sand the headlights and it'll also freshen up the front end. Well done. For heaven's sake, keep going with the Merc!
Thanks, yeah agreed, it's definitely growing on me. Whilst I still prefer the old Volvos this is a very nice old tank as well
@@Involvod Thanks for the reply Mr Involvod. Great to hear it's growing on you. Keep up the great work!! These wagons are great family cars.
Polish headlights and pin the headliner and it's golden :).
Agreed! I think I might need to polish the lights for the inspection soon
Typical Saturday at 12:00 in a German village
Great job! Benzes of this age should be saved! To me they are the last proper Benzes (rust always was an issue with M-B...) and they are great cars. Nice plates!
Thanks! People do say they're the last of the tank-like Mercedes, I was surprised that a car from the late 90's had such a strong feel
@@Involvod The late 90's is over 20 years ago 🙂. I have test driven the successor of the W210 and it just does not feel as solid. And that's why people, including myself, believe the W202, W210 and W140 are the last of the real Benz...
Great work! I would suggest to restore the headlights (very fine sandpaper and then polish, ceramic coating if you feel fancy), gives any car a way fresher look and takes away at least a few years of age!
Thanks, will give it a go 👍
@@Involvod Will the headlights give you trouble for inspection? I have had problems here in the US when they fog up and don't make a clear pattern any more.
@@DaveBenson yes I think it will definitely be an issue!
beautiful Royal Donut!!!!!!
Haha brilliant 😁
Volvo definitely used better quality steel than Mercedes-Benz, If I'm not mistaken, Volvo used British steel on the 240s.
That's interesting if true! From my observation so far the steel seems thicker on the Mercedes especially compared to a 740, it's very tank-like I was really surprised
@Involvod
According to what I've read, Volvo did you British steel on the 240s. The tidy up on the Mercedes looks great.
MB started the use of water-based paints during those years, that's why the Mercs of that age all rust super bad. Nothing to do with the metal itself.
I knew someone who bought a brand new Vito van and that was looking scabby when only 2 years old.
After 93 Merc used water based paint, which made it worse, in 96 they switched to bad steel from northern Africa which deleted any Quality this car had.
You’re doing such a great job, they are ringing the bell to show their approval! Great work
Haha 😆 Cheers
It's a bit useless to apply rust proof on the plastick bottom covers though, the actual rust is behind them
@@dingdong2103 very true, but luckily they're rust free behind, I did take them off and painted behind them afterwards though
Gosh darn it! I dont have “air raid siren” on my ambient noise bingo card!😅😅😅
😂 The other night we were convinced someone was mowing their lawn, at midnight! Those darn enthusiasts
@@Involvod its about time we make a stand against these “people”
The bells here started ringing the exact same moment as the siren began in the video and I thought „well that’s a bit too much really even for Germany“ before realising there weren’t in the video😂 Its the same Austria with bells and sirens but you really get used to it…
Edit: well actually that’s a lot of bells…
Haha Germany wins the bell off 😂
I see You´re enjoying the catholic Bavarian country side!
BRANTHO is the best. My 240 also has a lot of these.
That's good to hear! Can't wait to get it onto the Volvos too
Looking so much better. I don't mind the Merc content.
I agree. Like the Merc content I own an E300 (2017), as well as a just purchased 1977 240d.
Thanks guys!
Loving this project…keep the vids coming on the Merc please.
Thanks, will do 🙂👍
Manual tranny! Pretty rare in my cowntry.
This car deserves to be saved.
Thanks for this nice share.
Thanks! I was surprised to see it was a manual, I thought they only came in auto
looks already 10x better than before, winter horse!
Thanks! Exactly 😀
Nice, looks way better
Thanks! 👍
@@Involvod Thanks for the shirt, it arrived today. I was so happy, i love it
@@finn2586 ah that's great! Glad you're happy with it and thanks again for the order! 👍
I like the bells. The siren is a bit weird though, what’s all that about?
It's the fire station, they use a siren to call in the firemen from the village
should have called it Duncan ( Dunkin DO NUT ) lol
Looks good😊
Thanks 👍
😂😂😂 what a lovely place you live! So you can’t wash your car, but you can smash a church bell 24/7! 😮
It takes some getting used to 😂 I'm just glad they don't ring the bells through the whole night anymore like they used to up until a few years back
@@Involvod yeah of course that's progress. One could hope they would go a few steps further. 😎
Thanks for the videos, I'm not only here for the Volvo content any longer. 👍
@@Mad_Skill_Garage thanks, I appreciate it 🙂
The bells are warning you mate !!! It’s not a real 240!!! By the way ; Nice tires!😂😂😂
Could call it doughnut with that plate ? What was with the siren and all the bells !
The problem with living next to a church and a fire station 😄
Very nice job - do like the battlescars here and there. And the bells are fantastic, as is the new name for the car. Do remember to polish the headlamps before inspection.
Thanks, really fits doesn't it!
Without a doubt you will do a great job.I can't understand why ,you are trying to save this car ,and why don't you try another volvo(significally younger model).Any attempt to save old glories is always fasinating
Satisfying. Very much enjoyed the video. Shame the TUV limits your options on the finish, but it still looks good. What are the seat like without the covers?
Thanks, I didn't remove them completely but I had a peak underneath and they looked fine. I've noticed the driver's seat is a little flat, but after having butts sat in it for 441,000 km it's going to be 😄
i did the same job today on my v70 silghtly rusty doors
It makes a big difference eh!
Wow. What a transformation ! I think that all your efforts were worth it. Good that you kept the battle scars because that gives her character. And the important question is what does Ms Involvo'd think of it because if i recall correctly it was bought for her wasn't it something safe that she would daily drive when you could not find a decent v70 ?
Thanks! Yeah that's right, she really loves it and is also happy that it's not perfect, she gets scared to drive the Volvos in case they get any damage but it won't hurt this car to get another battle scar 😄
Makes absolute sense to preserve the volvos by using Mathilde more . Ms involvo'd can relax and drive Mathilde with no fear !
From ROYaL to DONUT plates. 😃👌🏻 Those Bells are just rediculous. 🤪🙈 need to invest in good earplugs. Well done on good old Mathilda
Thanks 🙂
Again another job well done the before and after pictures look great love the donut 🍩 reg, head lights a cheap trick try whitening toothpaste a couple of passes with a bit of elbow grease can do wonders ,on with the toothpaste and wash of with water has to be whitening toothpaste.
👍👍👍
Thanks 👍 I also heard mosquito spray is supposed to work 🤔
⛪️🔔🔔🔔🔔🤣😆🤣😆
The 210 is looking a lot better, my God I was laughing so hard over your “bell” problem, just to funny.
Thank you for an entertaining video, and 🤞hopefully no issues with passing the inspection🤗🤗🤗
Thanks 🙂
Have you fixed the headlights?, if they are still yellow you can make them clear again , with white vinegar & baking soda you make like a paste put it on the headlights and that will make them clear again put some paste on the headlights leave it on for some time then get a sprayer with water to clean them it will leave them like new again.
Well the old girl cleaned up pretty well, plenty of sweat equity invested though. I’m enjoying it as I have a ‘95 W210 E230 sedan with nearly 280000 kms. Just ‘run in’ compared to yours, but these 210’s do grow on you. Hopefully it’s a while before your rear window regulators fail, or the wood on the door trims deform + break, or the headliner glue gives up etc LOL. Looking fwd to more vids mixed in with the Volvo content (be good to see a headlight polish hint hint 😁). Cheers 👍
Agreed, I spent so many hours just digging out the factory underseal/seam sealer and wire brushing all the rust, but as long she lasts for a couple of years at least it's been worth it 😅 We are enjoying cruising around, really nice car indeed
So the warning siren warns of impending bells of doom followed by local dog barking before marchng crazies band of doom starts up ?
Holy Shit I thought Chavs doing J turns and burn ups were bad @Involvo'd
Haha yeah. Band of doom 🤣
Love watching your videos mate can't wait to see this back to glory your the best just get new bootlid and two wings
Thanks mate! I'm keeping my eyes open 👀
Mathilda came up well for not a lot of effort. My OCD says headlining & headlights next & maybe some cheap OEM alloys too? I’ve got a soft spot for these as the old man had an E430 sedan back in the day and as a manual 210 (no such thing here in Oz) she was worth saving/prolonging. Plus a little variety in the content is no bad thing either. Cheers.
ps hope Miss Involvo’d and her little passenger are doing well.
Thanks! That's what I'm thinking. The missus is doing good cheers, not long now! 😅
Great work. Having the compressor is a nice addition to your tools. Are you going to polish the headlights?
Cheers Frank, hopefully it will have enough poke to use with an impact gun or at least an air ratchet, hopefully the neighbours don't mind either 😄 I will polish them because I think it might be a TÜV issue as well!
I would have named it Hanz lol. This could be a scary short film with the look on your face lol. Mate if i lived closer i would have given you a hand for free. I miss working on cars.
P.S. LOVE the donut plate lol. Maybe change her name to homer. Bet James from donut would LOVE that plate on his vw
Thanks! Maybe I could get him a plate printed 😄
@@Involvod i wish we had that in France, we can write something on the plate under the numbers, anything you want but no custom plates.
And you have a necklace for crimbo for the missus!
Ah damn that was a good idea.. now I wish I hadn't shown her on the video 😂
What does Tuv say about aged/foggy headlights?
Probably that the car should be recycled 🤣 I need to polish them up
@@Involvod I sympathize with you and your efforts. Today I paid $555.80 CDN before taxes to get the A/C recharged with 1234yf on our 2017 Chevy Tahoe. The new juice costs 10 times what the refrigerant in our 2012 XC70 costs. Dealer found no leaks so where did 4.03 units of magic go?
@@richardguse3410 oof that's a lot of coin! I need to get the a/c gassed up in the 740 to see if it will work. I don't know how but I think it's normal to need a regas after a long time even if there's no obvious leak 🤔
A quite nice result considering this kind-a-quick-and-dirty-ish job, really nice looking car at the end. I wonder how long will it stay „rust free“ in this body points where you treated the rust… Finger cross ;) And the licence plate fits well this car, looks like donut anyway :) cause of the headlights. Anyway, interesting car for a daily drive. I wonder how much did you pay for it if I may ask? Greets from BLN where it is as loud as in your village I suppose…
Haha, thanks 😄 It cost €750, probably could and should have negotiated more but I liked the people. It's quite a good price for Bavaria, there were a couple other rusty ones going for around €1500! Hope Berlin isn't too sweaty 😅
@@Involvod thanx for the answer! this is in my opinion a very good price considering a good technical condition (if?). I was wondering what could this car cost on the market and I‘ve looked for such a car like this and I haven‘t found anything under 1500 Euro… But the last asking price would be lower than that. You made a good deal I would say! Greets from not-so-hot Berlin (the last days it was raining as hell)
@@autofascynacje thanks, I'm glad you think so. It needs a few mechanical items (suspension, exhaust etc) and of course it's high mileage. I'm just hoping it lasts for at least a couple of years without too many faults otherwise it will have not been so worth it 😅
@@Involvod I‘m pretty sure even it this car last for the next two years it was already worth it. First because of the experience and because of the car itself. I haven‘t drive this benz model but I‘ll bet it‘s pretty comfy
@@autofascynacje yeah it's really very nice to drive
Please remove all the keys hanging with the car key itself as seen in 5:40 because the weight of it will destroy your ignition lock and the key won't be recognized anymore
Thanks, I didn't think of that
DONUT 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
Lanoguard is the best around for cars rust
I saw Once Driven Forever Smitten on UA-cam use it, I need to try it out!
@Involvod great stuff used it on my cars I like the idea it dosent hide anything
Some people, ie previous owner, are such grubs they don't deserve to have a beautiful car like an E240 Marc. They trash the inside and let the outside rust. Shame on them.
Plate should of been DON KY,,,lol anyway i personality think leaving rust an calling it patina is just an excuse of can't be bothered or laziness, not a fan of patina as you can tell, but fair play looks ok from a distance 👍
Matilda is OK, but Movilda would be just great.
Never heard that name before 😀
@@Involvod It's from Movil - famous in ex-USSR countries Korrosionsschutz😉
Don key lol
That would've been good, can only have 2 letters though 😄
