Agreed. Man I saw them live at a monsters of rock concert at alpine valley back in the late 80s or early 90s. I think it was right before this album came out. It was amazing.

As for their "genre"... they probably got put in the Hair Metal category but if you listen to their sound, they weren't quite in that realm IMO, a little harder and less flash than the hair/glam guys.
Sebastian Bach began in the church choir and along with a kick ass career doing Heavy Metal, he ended up doing a spin on Broadway. He has a unique and powerful voice.

I was 21 when Skid Row came out and some called them "Hair Metal" which they were not. Bands like Poison (one example) were Hair Metal. Lots of makeup and HUGE, high, hairsprayed look. The biggest difference is the music, which Poison was all about "Don't need nothing but a good time..." or "Talk dirty to me." Skid Row had more complex music, lyrics and singing. I remember walking into the Navy NEX and seeing the new Skid Row album, Slave to the Grind. I got back to my barracks room and put it in my CD-player boombox and fired it up. And this comes on. I was blown away from the moment. Great album. Great track.

This was my middle school and high school years. I had their poster on the wall. I went to their shows. I even had the t-shirt. Sebastian Bach has such a great voice. Much later than this (2002) I was able to see him in the Musical Jesus Christ Superstar and he was amazing in that too!

Skid Row was like the last great heavy metal band before grunge hit. It was a shame, I think they would have had a string of popular albums but the public's interest in music switched to Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

Skid Row will always have my respect for this album. In the 80s, most Metal bands who had successful power ballads on their first album tended to include a larger number of power ballads on their second album. Skid Row came back hard as HELL with their second album. They'd probably have sold more copies if they'd followed the normal course, but they flipped everybody's expectations on their head instead. Probably pissed off their record company and music publishers too, which is also always nice.
This is just another level of how insanely great Skid Row was. This is a much harder album than the debut. In my opinion, this was Skid Row showing the WORLD that they can put out some really hard rock and not be lumped in with the hair bands of the time. Slave To The Grind is ALMOST a speed metal song. If you decide to react to it, you wont be disappointed.
Loved doling this one back in the day. As I said previously, I was really blessed to be in a band that had me as it's weakest link. Our singer was intense, insanely good, could cover anything. When he hit that scream the crowd would start jumping, but everybody else were top players, tight band. Thankfully I was the synth player, and wasn't out front. Fantastic song, alweays a crowd pleaser, and brings a smile to my face when I see someone else digging it.

I saw Skid Row in their prime in DC in 1991 when they opened for Guns N' Roses. They were awesome and blew GN'R off the stage.
