Skid Row's second album Slave to the Grind is one of the best albums ever. Seeing the Skids do this song and Piece of Me on Saturday Night Live is what turned little girl me into the metalhead I am today.
Well put. :) It was a performance the ages. Seeing it go down live was kind of one of those moments in life like "wait, what did I just witness? something changed." lol
A good rocking Skid Row song. It actually got Brad swaying, a bit. Also check out Wasted Time, Slave to the Grind, and Quicksand Jesus.
I love almost all of their songs but Wasted Time is easily their best song.
Another vote in favour of Quicksand Jesus. That song vocally and lyrically is just top notch. In a darkened room also excellent. If you are willing to embrace the playful, almost teenage rebelliousness of Get The Fuck Out then you may enjoy its energy. Just don’t take it seriously.
First time listening to it thought it was guns Rose's
Official videos so Lex can fall in love like Brad did with Alanis morissette
Slave to the Grind rocks!
More Skid Row please!! Wasted Time, Quicksand Jesus, In a Darkened Room, Slave to the Grind!
Official videos so Lex can fall in love like Brad did with Alanis morissette
@@LN-Lifer 🤣🥂 brads obsession is famous
Quicksand Jesus is probably my favorite Bach performance
This whole album is a masterpiece
SLAVE TO THE GRIND is one of the most under rated albums ever. Every song is amazing and Sebastian's voice is killer! Try doing QUICKSAND JESUS or SLAVE TO THE GRIND next please. Thanks for the review. Saw Sebastian Bach live once as a solo artist opening for GUNS and ROSES and his voice just blew me away. Keep smiling 😊✌
Agreed
You guys should react to…
Skid Row - Wasted Time
🎸🤘
official video only
we will see if Lex has the same reaction to SB that Brad had to AM
I didn’t think I liked 80’s hair bands until I heard Skid Row. The riffs had some serious muscle to them and Sebastian is an incredible singer.
That whole album packs a bunch. I saw Skid Row in concert on this album "Slave to the Grind" tour with Pantera opening up for them supporting their 2nd album "Vulgar Display of Power"(Which wasn't in stores yet) and both bands kicked ass. Also, MTVs "Headbangers Ball was shooting live on stage footage during the show. Other songs to consider from this Skid Row album would be "Get the Fuck Out", "Living on a Chain Gang".
Not enough people have reacted to Skid Row. This is one of those really good Skid Row songs too. Sebastian and his great voice. And the rest of that band too.
I never really agreed with Skid Row being considered a "hair band". I suppose their first album kinda was, but Slave to the Grind was much harder than any of the other hair bands around.
They also never agreed with that label either. They just happened to drop their first album at the time of “hair band” but their music was always harder and better
Same way I feel about Tesla.....
This song on SNL was divine. They crushed it!!
if you like that, check out Slave to the Grind(the song)...most other bands like them stayed relatively light with their music...I always respected Skid Row for going heavier than most of their peers.
Wife here..Was CRAZY for Sebastian Bach back in the eighties..!Ok..I didn't know a chic who wasn't to be honest...!Of coarse.., This song is about records/labels and how they treated bands..Rocking hard with this one!!..Thank You!!
This is from my favorite Skid Row album. Sebastian's voice is incredible...his range is from floor to ceiling.
That outro was the intro to Skid Row’s “ Wasted Time” which is a great song!
This whole record was badass. Sebastian Bach had a rock god voice. He still has a great voice.
Skid Row is one of my favorite bands ever and the 80's rock/metal is such a big influence in me as a musician. Other great ones by them are "Quicksand Jesus", "Wasted Time" and even "Forever" that was previously unreleased and not too many people mention but is a an 80's beauty.
"In A Darkened Room" is my favourite Skid Row song.
LMAO! Lex's face at 6:00 when Brad said "this song makes me want to drink" is pure gold!
Slave to the grind, the album, is a masterpiece and Slave to the grind, the song, is a banger. But like so many other people have commented… YOU NEED TO HEAR WASTED TIME. The song is amazing, the vocals are stunning and the lyrics and the way he delivers them will have you in tears. You need this song in your life lol. Please give it a listen.
Yessss!! Was a HUGE fan of Skid Row's first album, but with hits like 18 and Life, and I Remember You, I really expected them to go ballad rock for the next album. So when they released Monkey Business as their first single I was STOKED!! They went harder and more irreverent and it is one of the Top 25 Follow Up Albums EVER IMO!!
Gotta checkout the title track Slave To The Grind!!!
They were friends with Pantera around that time. Of course they went harder.
This is one of my favourite bands. Sebastian Bach is a fantastic singer. The song is a masterpiece as well as the whole album "Slave to the grind" (1991). I was lucky to see this band live back in 1991 when they kind of opened for Guns n' Roses.
Love the smiles! This woman is a metalhead.
This was VERY early 90s -- so the whole "90s rock" thing hadn't even emerged yet.
Gotta see em do it live on SNL. Pretty damn amazing live performance
Even though the early 90's was the death of "Hair Metal", some of those bands released their BEST material during that time; Warrant - Dog Eat Dog, Winger - Pull, Skid Row - Slave to the Grind, Saigon Kick - The Lizard, Tora Tora - Wild America, Queensryche - Empire and Promised Land.... Great stuff.
Thanks for mentioning Saigon Kick. They get totally lost. The Lizard and their debut album are incredible
Piling on with the Saigon Kick love. Such an underrated band.
My lord, man. Thank you for remembering Saigon Kick for me, I had forgotten about them. I grew up in that Era and have been trying to get back all the music I've lost over time. Every time I go to Walmart, I always walk by that cd bargain bin in the middle of the isle hoping to find a band I've forgotten about. Gotta put this on the list.
I totally agree with you. I love so many of those early 90's albums that got lost in the grunge movement. Some others I used to enjoy were Extreme II: Pornograffitti and Wildside: Under The Influence.
@@dennismoore3383 I actually got to see Saigon Kick opening for Extreme on the 'Three Sides to Every Story' tour!
Bring back teenage memories. 88 Toyota pickup lifted, pioneer system jamming.
Lex's guitar impressions are the highlights of some of these videos lol.
One of my favorite bands of the late 80's and early 90's. Saw them open for Motley Crew '87 and Kiss in '99. They kick ass live.
There were bands from the 80's that continued in the 90's. Check out subhuman from skid row. Another kick ass song.
This album was released in 1991, and I thought Sebastian Bach (lead vocals) could've done one of two things (ruptured a jugular, or blown his vocal cords to shreds.) The man was off the charts.
Skid-row got their start in the late eighties and that album Slave to the Grind was their second which was in 91 or 92 I believe. Skid-row got off two hot & big start but died off along with other great bands like Hardline all because of Nirvana and the grunge era. You really ought to check out Hardline and there's song Rhythm of a red car, hot cherie, can't find my way or taking me down
I have a copy of hardline. Dont know why more then 2 song aren't on radio
Fun Fact. My oldest son is named after Sebastian. Wore this cassette out cruising in my mustang in high school.
They carried over from the '80s into the '90s. They were harder heavier than most other 80s glam rock bands. More hard rock, metal. Similar to Guns and Roses, Ugly Kid Joe, and Motley Crue. Edgy groups that stood out among its peers. Underrated group. 🎸 They were good. Reason why it took long to win a poll ('90s, '00'stream or what not) was in the early '90s this style of music was kind of pushed underground or played less on mainstream radio and MTV while rap, punk and other alternative rock music (includes grunge, indie/college rock, rap/rock, nu metal, post-punk, ska punk, industrial, thrash metal, etc) broke out of the underground (during the '80) into mainstream ('90s). It was like a shift change. If that makes any sense. Check out more Skidrow videos and songs. Screaming guitar was pinched harmonics playing technique.
DImebag's influence on Scotti Hill :)
@@MsCruisein That explains it lol. Great guitarists.
The ending sonic boom of hair metal.
Lex rocking the Slayer shirt is the greatest thing UA-cam has ever seen.
I went to see Skid Row & Pantera in Dothan,Alabama in 1992. A friend & I were walking thru the civic center parking lot & a group of Christians were protesting the concert one of who. offered to pay our way in which seemed sketchy to me. I was going in regardless but my friend wanted no part of it so he walked home. I went in, had a good time, & suffered hearing loss for 3 days.
I love when Lex nails it (coming out of the 80s and into the 90s... exactly!)
Saw Pantera open for Skid Rowe in 1992. It was seeing the future right in front of you.
Brad & Lex --- I know you go by polls, but you must react to Wasted Time (by Skid Row) --- best song vocally --- you both will dig it lyrically (deep song and background story) and for it's musicality!
i would agree best vocal performance really put alot into it
That's a song from this same album!
Yes! That's the song that started playing at the end of the video.
"Slave to the Grind" is waaay more her style.
Nah. In a Darkened Room
I love this whole album . “ Wasted time” is another great song on the “ SLAVE TO THE GRIND “ album . The title track ain’t bad either
Finally! Definitely one of my favorites to this very day! Right on timing guys, as their self-titled debut album came out in ‘89 followed by this one in ‘91. I saw them open for Guns N Roses a couple months before the Use Your Illusion released!
My favorite Skid Row jam…
First introduced to Skid Row supporting GNR at Wembley 1991. They were freakin awesome that day
as many have said... Wasted Time is a must
but my personal favorite is youth gone wild
They did that one already
This is THE hardest-hitting hair metal song of the late 1980's. It just is. Although, I gotta say, this whole album is hard-hitting and superb. Especially the title track: SLAVE TO THE GRIND. Also, THE THREAT is one of my favorite songs of all time for some reason. I dunno... Skid Row and Guns and Roses just hit different back then. Different level. So glad you guys gave this band a chance. There are a couple of songs by another band called BUCKCHERRY that I think y'all need to hear. NEXT TO YOU and CRAZY BITCH. I think you'll dig them.
This is by far my favorite hair, glam, butt rock album. The whole thing just kicks ass.
I’ve been waiting for this one! This whole album rocks!
You should’ve let the album keep playing !!!!
Wasted Time is a jam !
It’s the song that started right after Monkey Business.
No Monkey Business is the first album track Wasted Time is the final song. This must be someone's playlist.
@@tonyponchopeters I was talking about this particular video
@@jerrymarasco8878 Cool, I get it.
There is NO section of the nineties that sounds like this. This sound went COMPLETELY away during the '90s - BUT - it's back now and WAY MORE POWERFUL in today's hard rock bands. It was great to see you guys get back to the hard rock that made the 80s. Skid Row was right at the top of the genre.
You guys need to have a Current Hard Rock Night. You're in (especially Lex) for some big surprises. Asking Alexandria, Bad Omens, Memphis May Fire, Falling in Reverse (why in the heck have you not done Zombified?), Five Finger, Bring me the Horizon, Nothing More, Halestorm (Oh my god! HALESTORM), etc.
This album was released in June of 1991. :) These boys stayed around in this config until 1996, but their success was waning. Pantera carried the torch for metal through the 90s, and with grunge and alternative coming into it's own, the excess of glam metal went by the wayside.
I think they have done one Halestorm song!!
They definitely need to more!!
@@stevemartinez5067 Best femaile voice ever - IMO.
@@anthonyguerra6281 if you have ever seen her live she can put it out there better than any recording of hers‼️💯🤯🔥
This is my favourite Skid Row song
Skid row's 'hidden track' on Slave to the Grind called Get the Fu*k out is HILARIOUS!
concerts back then were awesome
This was a transitional record for the band. It's their 2nd record, and they were coming out of the glam metal era into something more modern. Their next record was their 3rd, and last with Sebastian Back - "Subhuman Race". It saw the band completely removed from their glam metal beginnings, and further into a modern sound at the time. It's criminally underrated, even though it was a successful endeavor. Highlights from this record were "Firesign", "Eileen", "Breakin' Down", "Into Another", and "Beat Yourself Blind". I can see Brad REALLY liking this record a lot.
Your hair, those freckles, that mixed skin, that energy, and the fact you love rock; gentlemen the unicorn has been found. Gaze upon the greatest creation of God.
Brad and Lex...Yes..Totally check the late 80's going into early ninties..Great 💡 idea..Like Queensrhyche ..,Kip Winger..etc
The squeelies are called pinch harmonics
Pinch harmonic is the screeching you hear.
Sebastian Bach has awesome vocals.. the video is good too...
Took my back to 1989, cruisin’ in my Camaro down the local boulevard, tee tops out, tryin’ to meet chicks.
Skid Row's Wembley Stadium concert is a hell of a show.
Great song. You should watch the official video to truly appreciate the energy of this song.
Yes!!! Iknew you guys would like this. Suggested it months ago. Very cool...now its going to be stuck in your head.
That whole album was a masterpiece. A true gem. (the little part at the end was the intro to another song called "Wasted Time", which is a MUST LISTEN to song from them. Might be their best work.
Saw this LIVE, when they opened for Guns-n-Roses. 🤘🏽🔥🤘🏽🔥
They slayed G-n-R. 😏
I saw the open up for Guns N'Roses too. It was a great concert
@@rickyallen7176
I saw them in Tacoma, Washington. You?
I saw them in St. Petersburg, Florida
Me too, twice at the Forum in L.A. Axl made us wait for HOURS.
@@DavidSmith-is4ph that's the old Axl Rose. Now he's on time
One of my favorite bands from early childhood
Well that sure was alot of fun.
All about addiction and the results. Also you nailed the timeline. This was a last gasp of hair metal amongst the birth of grunge
love this band they so many great songs great band live to
The main riff definitely chugs
near the end of the video i was remembering how Skid Row toured with Pantera (THREEE) Then Brad said ,"This makes me wanna drink."....... I laughed and laughed
After a successful first album, instead of going softer and more commercial, they fucking went heavier and more nasty!!!
Nothing beats the video for this. Sebastian Bach is total eye candy.
Slave to the grind! Best hard rock album from the 90s!!
Hell yeah!!! 🤘🏾😈🎸🔥
Skid Row - In a Darkened Room. The Official Video. EPIC.
I wish youtube didn't get rid of the live version on SNL, that is one of the best live performances you can ever see of this song and it's sad to not be able to watch it again.
This song is a stone groooooooooove.
Intro has a Van Halen hot for Teacher vibe. Big time.
So happy you did this song !
couch gang, yall help me through some extremely rough times, thank you Brad and Lex :)
Skid Row has always been amazing, but Slave to the Grind was their pinnacle. Wish you could have seen Sébastien do this live!!!
Such a good blues riff... Fun song to play!!
Been listing to this song 30 years and today I learned 60% of the lyrics. Don’t care one of the best jams ever.
Your comments about 80’s bands going into the 90’s trying to transition as music was getting harder with grunge and metal is spot on. That’s exactly what Skid was doing along with many other bands. Some were more successful than others. This is one of the few songs that stood the test of time.
Back when everybody wanted to be Slash. Lol.
That's a toe tapper! Skid Row kicked some serious ass.
Sebastian, what a powerful voice.
Lex got it right on the head . 80s guitar starting to transform into harder 90s guitar riffs
Quicksand Jesus is a masterpiece
Welcome the incredible pipes of Sebastian Bach of Skid Row! Sebastian had the best vocals in Hard Rock imo and their songs had substance. Please react to Wasted Time by Skid Row which was written about Steven Adler’s (former drummer of Guns n’ Roses) heroin addiction and was a personal plea by Sebastian to his friend who was losing his battle against that devastating drug. I had already bought and loved their debut album but when Wasted Time came out I rushed to go get their second album just to put that song on repeat. It soon became my favorite song of theirs for many reasons.
Great band with two amazing albums...fun fact: They were also great friends with Pantera. Great stuff, in-your-face style.
I remember watching the MTV debut of this song and video and thinking, "yeah... this rocks!"
This was indeed early '90s. Much of the '80s hair bands continued into the '90's but the music industry killed it with the grunge movement, in my opinion. To be fair, hair metal rock was beginning to saturate anyway. There was an era coming into the '80s that was the same, mainly '79 to '83. Speaking of that era, have you two done any Bryan Adams? Lonely Night, Fits Ya Good, Cuts Like a Knife, I'm Ready, Summer of '69, Run To You....
I don't know how much I can stress this when it comes to skid row you have to do
OFFICIAL VIDEOS
Lex definitely understands 80s music
Youth gone wild makes you want to do a moshpit
You need to check out ‘slave to the grind’ or ‘18 and life’
These guys had some cool rock salads like "Wasted time"; " 18 and life"; "In a darkened room" and "Quicksand Jesus"
Skid Row coverage? Liked and subbed. Also, Lex seriously has some rock'n'roll in her soul, my goodness. Always a blast to watch tho hehe
my child memory band in the 80
Love this song!!! Heavy metal hair band!! Sebastian Bach was 🔥🔥🔥!!! You need to see the video !!! ❤️❤️ next “Slave To The Grind” !! You must see the Videos !! Phenomenal voice !! Some of the funnest years of my life 80’s!!
