This song is about Steven Adler, the original Guns n Roses drummer. he was kicked out of GnR cause of his massive heroin addiction. After that he had a stroke and heart attack. he's alive and sober now but has a problem with his speech.
such an amazingly sad story and Sebastian really gives you the feels with this, i've lived this in a way its so hard to watch somebody you love basicly destory themselves i cry so hard when i hear this song it takes me days to get over one listen
Wow. How about that. I have a very convoluted GnR/Slaughter/Bon Jovi/Skid Row connection: For starters, I think everybody knows that there would've never been a Skid Row without Bon Jovi. Several years ago, I became good friends with Phil Varone (Saigon Kick drummer) when he was playing with Skid Row and we would chat for hours at night. (My husband thought it was kinda cool that a rock star had the hots for his wife ~LOL~.) One evening, in fact, Phil was quite excited because they'd just had dinner at Jon Bon Jovi's house, which blew his mind. I even got to chat with Snake that night. At that same time, I had a roadie friend I'd met through Slaughter and he was now with Bon Jovi. That Thanksgiving, I got to party with Skid Row after an Atlanta concert, but Bas was no longer with them. 😢 A few years ago, Steven Adler had his own band, Adler, and my friend Jacob Bunton was his lead singer and the man who kept him out of trouble. That's just an example of how small the world can be.
Sebastian Bach, just reaches a vocal level few can touch, and then he adds unmatched emotion to it. I don’t see how he’s not a top 5 rock vocalist of all-time on anyone’s list.
This is my favourite Skid Row song because it's so deep. I love how Sebastian can sing the hell out of anything and apart from Steven Tyler I've never seen another singer like him.
Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach wrote the lyrics to this song about his friend Steven Adler, who was the original drummer for Guns N' Roses. Adler had a severe heroin addiction that affected his performance, and the band fired him in 1990. He struggled with addiction for most of his life, even appearing on the TV show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2008. Yes horse is a name for heroin !! Steven is actually doing really good now ! He came back and beat it real good so Far !
Love the epilogue. It rings especially true for me. i'm 7.5 years clean from a decade long opiate/benzodiazepine addiction. That doesn't make me a better person than anyone else embroiled in their own battle, but I'm living, breathing proof that it CAN be done. When this song came out, I was in grade 8 and I fell in love with it thinking "I'll never let that happen to myself". Well, it happened. My only advice is do what I did, never give up hope that colour will come back into the world one day. Fight the good fight. Much love.
1 day at a time my brother, it's a constant struggle, but still worth the daily battle. For me I've been clean and sober for 30+ yrs and still it's a battle.
I have heard that over the years as well, and I am happy as heck to report that Steven is indeed alive & well. A close friend of mine traveled nearly 13 hours back in May 2019 to see Autograph open up for Steven Adler's Appetite for Destruction (solo band playing GnR songs from that album). The show was in Pennsylvania and we were fortunate enough to meet Steven and hang out backstage before the show - super cool, approachable, and beautiful spirit y'all! He does have some slurred speech goin' on, but man...he can still play his kit with skill and ease. So good.
Such a shame as Gnr were never the same after Steven was kicked out. The current line up is just a circus, nothing like the gritty, dirty rock n roll the original five produced.
Sebastian has done things on Broadway, Phantom of the opera, and Jesus Christ Superstar. He's very diverse, and under rated. He was also very smart about marketing himself, and investing his money. Not a dumb rockstar. He still performs with his solo band. And still has his voice.
Wasted Time, In a Darkened Room & Quicksand Jesus are possibly the best songs of that generation and it’s all on one album. Sebastian could hit notes so out of range from regular singers. Absolutely incredible
Sebastian would always give me chills the way he used his unbelievable range, the emotion he pulls out of their lyrics with his singing and the emotion he'd have in his handsome face.☺💙
Not sure where you're hearing him still hitting the high notes. Everything I've heard from him lately is awful. And he used to be my favorite male singer.
@@spongedebfatpants1308 Okay. He can still hit more than most singers his age. He does earn respect for not dropping the keys to make the notes easier to hit. I hate to see aging singers feel the need to do that.
This song just rips me apart every time I hear it. I lost someone very close to me 20 years ago. Every line of this song is so hard to hear because it's so close to my situation. The feeling that I couldve and should've done more but didn't. 😭
Hey man, you should try In a Darkned Room, by Skid Row... It's about child abuse, and many people claim that this song help them to passing through... Cheers from Brazil man...
Sebastian went and spent a year+ on Broadway playing Jekyll & Hyde. BROADWAY. But yeah, this is about Steven Adler - his close friend and drummer for Guns N’ Roses. It’s sad, man.
This song always reminds me of my best friend, Alan. We were super tight, and I joined the Navy and lost touch due to distance. But even when this song was released he was on the path to follow the theme of this song, which he ultimately did. Tears me up every time I hear it.
My favorite song by them. Bach’s voice is so powerful on this one. Great choice, Great reaction. You were exactly right about the meaning of this song. I can feel it also when he sings.
Yes, Jamel. “The horse stampedes and rages.” Horse is a street slang for heroin. Another commenter already mentioned that this was written about/for Steven Adler, the original drummer for Guns and Roses who was kicked out because of his heroin addiction. Interestingly, bass player Rachel Bolan who helped write the song calls it “the biggest piece of shit we ever recorded.” I definitely can’t agree with him.
Rachel holds a lot of animosity towards Sebastian, even still after all these years, so I think anytime Sebastian shines, Rachel gets tetchy about it. And yeah, Skid Row without Sebastian is... not worth it. Sebastian on the other hand is out there being the same as always.
Candlebox "Far Behind" is a heartbreaker about losing a friend to drugs. I'm holding back tears listening to this. It's been a while since I've heard it 🥺

The song is about Sebastian Bach's friend, Steven Adler, the drummer for Guns N' Roses. He was using heroin a lot at the time and this was Sebastian's pleas for him to stop.

1988-1992 actually
