I lived in Florida and the weather there with the salt in the air is ruff on finish cast iron. I bought some acid from woodcraft and another product that seals the top. I also keep a silver thin bubble wrap on top with a slice in it for the blade. So far it's stays clean
Your timing for re-releaseing this is great. Covid has resulted in a 2 income family being reduced to a single income. So instead of settling for 9 to 5 we're investing in our plans. The resources are stretched to look for secondhand tools and equipment. Thank you.
So funny, I used this video to rehab a 1970s craftsman tablesaw top years ago. Good to revisit as I refinish metal bbq shelf this weekend. Thanks uncle George and team.
Yes GR8 timing on the RE-release. I just bought an older jointer in GR8 condition other than a little surface rust - a lot less than in your video. Thanks
Hello - Here is your expert response: A degreaser is a product that is used to break down the products that were used to remove the rust, so that the oils from the rust removers do not linger behind and potentially migrate into the wood that you cut on the saw. In this video the degreaser that is used is mineral spirits. Paul
Good advice. Pity about the video quality. I would always use a fine grit (400 or better) sandpaper on a block to ensure it stays as flat as possible. I like that the video shows multiple passes, since that's often needed and much better than using aggressive approaches like a wire brush.
Thank you for your patience. Here is our expert's response: Yes, that can remove rust as well. Be aware that your approach is aggressive, and it might take some additional work to achieve a smooth surface after the rust is removed. If you have any other questions, please chat, email, or call Customer Service. Sincerely, Sarah Wood Workers Guild of America Video Membership
Too much work, I use an orbital sander with WD40 going up and down in the same direction across the top, then finish off with a good carnauba paste wax, and a buffing pad on the orbital. The woods slides nicely, and it lasts for months. Thank you so very much for your videos, but I do wish they were higher than 240p in quality, it looks so blurry. Remember if you upload higher quality it will default the best quality for faster playing on most devices automatically.
This is one of the first wwga videos I ever watched. Smart to re-release it.
Exactly what I was looking for.
I was gifted a old cast iron table saw and have been restoring

I used to work on paper paper cutters, we kept rust at bay with silicone spray as you can’t oil the bed as it gets on the paper, you should try it
What table top sealer did you use?
What exactly is degreaser? Is that mineral spirits or isopropyl alcohol? Or either one is fine?

Thanks for the tips!
What is the table top sealer product?
Can I use a wire wheel on grinder?
Great question! I have submitted your question to our experts. Please check back here in 1-2 days for their response. Thank you!

Good video, like that you took the table off the machine to clean it.

Great Video
they make a scotch brite wheel for your angle grinder these days. Will make light work of this
Just use Evaporust to remove the rust. No rubbing. Then get it copper plated then Nickel electroplated.
How do you clean a rusty trombone?
ended up with black streaks on table
Filming a video Summer 2020 - in 240p. 😵💫
You keep calling it a TABLE SAW, looks like a BAND SAW top to me. Otherwise, great video.
This is a how not to video.
