Good comparison. I do notice a bit of bias towards the iphone though. Specially when you describe the ups and downs of both. You are a lot more generous with the iphone when it does not perform as well.

I felt like the iPhone was overall a lot sharper than the Samsung; the flickering is mostly due to the way the vids look on UA-cam. Really high quality videos look like literal crap - like VGA 15 fps - after UA-cam’s compression, but at least you still get a feel for the colors and HDR.
I still can't understand what Samsung aimed to achieve videowise with the Exynos 21 Ultra. Video shot with my old Exynos 21U was plagued by noise which could be rampant and beyond intrusive in shadow detail even in daylight videos, and as for low light video?...It was bad and quite appalling for a flagship. My S23 Ultra on the other hand shoots such detailed and smooth and high quality video with brilliant stabilization. Even on the x10 lens. All this with excellent noise control. The video audio is impressive too. Samsung nailed it this time for sure.
It would be nice to see a compersion between Expert Raw 50mp vs Pro Raw. Furthermore it would be great if you would include a compersion between 8k Video on the s23 and the 4k on the iphone
There is a new 2.2gb camera update for s23series that currently roll-out start with south east Asia region. Hope Danny will re-test the camera again..thanks

I did not get these soft/unfocused artifacts when using Gcam on my ultra. So its clearly a software thing. Gcam uses Google's ZSL algorithm to process a quick shutter, underexposed shot. But on the Samsung camera, the camera is doing a lot of work and adjustments when you tap the shutter button, before the actual shot is taken and later post processed afterwards.
Would love to see a bit mote 50mp vs 50mp at night comparison. Since I feel the 200mp at night isn't as strong in dynamic range. While the 50mp on the one single shot you compared looked better :)
As a long-time Samsung owner I must say that iPhone night photos and videos are still better. Although Samsung is improving each generation, they still tend to oversaturation which you can't adjust/turn off. Also the smoothening level of the night-mode photos should be adjustable. Please Samsung, just give us that option!
Samsung night videos and photos are better for me bc i rlly dont care abt the noise and samsung portrait and also video is more sharper and also more stable at night, tho at day iphone is better (for videos only)
Agree iphone photos and video at night are miles better. Samsung colors are off putting and the overexposure is horrible. The noise on Samsung sucks too
If you have the s23u in your hands, you must know which phone is the best from camera to other functions. Don't believe some of the reviewers, because some of them are paid by phone manufacturers, especially from China. Samsung, iPhone, Asus and Sony rarely do this to reviewers.
Man, thank you! Your comparison reviews are exactly what I want to see every time! And yes, the iPhone 14 is better at preserving details. But damn, Apple definitely needs to do something about their "grain" which is still unacceptably high on some shots.
Dear Danny, why dint u use Photographic Styles in the iPhone camera? It has different modes which enable you to brighten the highlights of a dark image BEFORE u take the photo. This is a very under-rated camera feature.
Hi, it's a really nice detailed video, thanks. I wonder if we can disable noise reduction that causes softening on s23 ultra photos and also how does it look compared to iphone if we cancel it.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max looks sharper and more detailed, however sometimes it looks too processed. Oppo Find X6 Pro and Huawei P60 Pro could probably fill the gap between this two!
at 1:12 I HAVE to disagree yeah it's noisier but WAY more detailed. Look at the floor and look at the brickwork on the bottom right you cannot even tell it exists on the iphone, samsung is trying to balance the noise and detail levels maybe a touch more noise reduction and its perfect but I prefer the detailed shot to the smoothing on the iphone.
Danny, please compare the Huawei P60 Pro with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. I'm curious about the competition between the S23 Ultra and the P60 Pro, especially after the updates.
Very strange Samsung priorities. Do people really want to take pictures of zoomed buildings and satelites that look sharp for a phone, but generally not great, while having bazillions of artifacts on a simple wide-angle street shots.
Look closely at the 2:15 mark while he's talking about the ground. The subject of the photo, the people, look perfect on the Samsung, but on the iPhone, everything is green, the ground, and the people LOL.

If you want to make a worthy rivalry with the PRO RAW mode of the iphone 14, the s23 ultra you have to take the photo with the EXPERT RAW mode of samsung, you will notice the difference.
the better comparison with the 48 pro raw, wouldn't be the 50px expert mode raw? i can see a way better result on those, since they are both raw.... the 200px jpeg do have a lot of software adjustments on top
iphone gets better photos here and there, but if you take a lot photos and videos, samsung will win in 80% of the times. No contest. The only thing Samsung needs to improve its on shutter speed in moving objects. In video at night, Samsung smash the iphone, so much detail.
Stop this "shutter lag" nonsense. This is NOT the issue. Samsung uses a longer exposure because they ALWAYS want to keep the ISO as low as possible. That's the issue. A long exposure. Not shutter lag.
iPhone is much more balanced but I'd still take the s23U just coz of its versatility and both the phones are almost the same on average. Gonna wait for the s24U however I hope they fix shutter lag.

@@dannywinget hopefully they will. Gcam should provide great results though given the great sensors. Tried Motioncam Pro on my friend's regular S23 and the results were fantastic shooting actual RAW video.
Also Danny, the camera sensor is actually larger on the iPhone. 1/1.28”, with larger 2.44 micrometer pixels, vs the 1/1.3” sensor with 2.4 micrometer pixels on the S23U. Not a huge difference but I’d expect a little more sharpness without needing as much noise reduction. Although the S23U actually has a slightly larger aperture of f/1.7 vs the iPhone’s f/1.78. Again, only a small difference and I’d say sensor size is more important to me. Imo, iPhone wins!
