    Gunner tips: shoot anything with more legs than two.

    • @50percentGrey
      @50percentGrey 2 роки тому +64

      The Gunner has a very straightforward role to serve on the team, but it's the choice of weapons he uses that make the difference. He has weapons that focus on one target or many at once, so it's a matter of finding a balance between either option. The minigun has the potential to deal the highest DPS of all the primary weapons in the game, making it suitable for taking out high-priority targets quickly (but not necessarily as efficiently as the Scout's M1000). The Lead Storm Overclock can make the minigun as such unless you'd rather still keep moving while shooting.
      Alternatively, the auto-cannon can be built to clear out multiple targets with it's splash damage capabilities. The Carpet Bomber or Splintering Shells overclocks are good choices, but I found that the Neurotoxin Payload overclock is better for team support, since the poison effect can slow down and kill off most affected grunts. So even if the poison doesn't kill them right away, they'll just be easier for the rest of the team to clear out.
      As for the sidearms, I found that the Magic Bullets overclock can turn the revolver into a miniature crowd control weapon, if you mod it correctly. The BRT7 burst-fire pistol is more-or-less designed for single targets, which is why you get that along with the autocannon as a weapon to balance your weapon options. The Composite Casings overclock works best for the burst-fire to make it a balanced general-purpose sidearm, but the Lead Spray overclock can make it deal massive close range damage if you plan on using the Neurotoxin Payload on the autocannon.
      That's just my recommendations. What do you think?

      While the bright light is great (and even needed at times to complete secondary objectives), scouts excel most when paired with an engie. Engies help scouts reach minerals on ceilings and walls. But scouts also do what their name implies. They scout. Cryo driller melee build is best for dives tho (all my homies respect but choose not to use gunner)

  • @thorveim1174

    on priority targets, i would add slashers. Their damage output is crazy, they are faster than other bugs, and slow you too making them harder to escape. Ther are more durable too so if one reaches melee, it often means a downed dwarf.
    Grabbers aren't as high proiority to kill: a few shot repels them and can force them to drop a grabbed ally: if you are really busy, a few shots to the grabber can be enough if you have more immediate threats. Leeches though? Kill no matter what or you WILL regret it.
    As for the gunner, he is the all-purpose damage output of the team; minigun being skewed more towards priority target removal though, and the autocanon for limited, but inexpensive crowd control that doesn't strain the team's ressources much like a grenade from the engie would, and his pistol is great as killing long range priority targets (especially with elephant rounds, allowing him to oneshot macteras that aren't the brundle or bomber (and the bomber will be near death after it). Its stongest tool though is the shield, that can allow him to secure revives of give breathing room in all situations. That thing is a lifesaver if used wisely, and that can be even if no one stands inside it (since bugs will not go through the shield even if no one stands on it, you can temporarily lock tunnels to the bugs with it while the entire team relocates. I successfully used it quite a few time as an obstacle to bugs rather than a shelter, especially on mission escape where the driller drils straight for the pod or to force a detonator to turn back and get away from the team for a little bit).

    • @eyeball6793
      @eyeball6793 2 роки тому +11

      More on the shield generators, is that a good gunner will toss their shield on a downed ally under several bugs to secure a rez. But a great gunner is usually able to tell when the whole team is in a tight spot and can toss a shield on the ground to delay a swarm that’s coming from all sides or if you’re unlucky with positioning probably preventing dwarves from getting downed in the first place. More on that, you can use it for the whole team to do a lot of damage to a high priority target, ESPECIALLY omen events, as the shield will make the team temporarily immune to its bs, letting your whole team damage to the max for a few seconds. You can also shield yourself from a bulk right as you’re going down. Another thing many gunners forget is how amazing a tool the zipline is, it literally places you above ground making you immune to melee damage, and if you are speeding down a slope most ranged attacks from mactera will miss you if you time your descent. You can even place ziplines just inside a uplink bubble while doing repair missions. The thing is also an absolute lifesaver against hiveguards and regular dreadnauts, but twins are a little more tricky.

      @ithaldir 2 роки тому +7

      Plus one on the slashers, those things are super deadly if they come up behind you and I swear slasher assassinations are my leading cause of downs during elite deep dives.

  • @ithaldir
    @ithaldir 2 роки тому +61

    My primary gunner tip is don't sit on your shields. If you know you're taking a resupply after a swarm then make a point of using 2 out of your 4 shields during the fight, preferably proactively to keep the team together and damage free. This goes double for any point defense mission, perhaps even using 3 every swarm if you know you have a lot of nitra. If you primarly use shields to get safe pickups on downed team mates you're either using them too late or too little. Despite how it appears the shield generator is the Gunners' greatest weapon.

    Iron Will becomes super useful with vampire passive, because even though it only gives 5 health for meleeing bugs, any amount of health is enough to keep you alive. Driller's... drills also do melee damage. And you're completely invulnerable during iron will as well.

    • @user-25352
      @user-25352 Рік тому +3

      want to add that axes also do melee damage, meaning you can get healing at range. And cryo driller will prob have even better time, due to frozen enemies being outright eradicated by drills (tho crspr and sludge still have good opportunities to finish wounded and slowed enemy with melee strike). As such, driller should always have vampire, and for him Iron Will is excellent - he almost always will find some healing.

    Some tips I'ld like to share:
    -spitballer's projectiles can be destroyed by just shooting them. The real threat imo is when the animation is bugged so it look like they shoot you at 90° angle from their mouths.
    -never have your back against a wall *UNLESS* engie's plateform gun has the special upgrade so bugs prefer not to walk on them. Its confusing for new players and still experimented players, but if there is an alternative and not too exagerated path the bugs will take that instead of crossing the plateform. You can therefor make some kind of roofing above you to allow your team to stay back and only focus foward. Very useful for the mkni mule mission.
    -ping high priority targets (or the general direction of the incoming swarm). It saves time and effort as, for example, you can keep track of menace/warden/arbalest-flame boss as they stay pinged when burrowing.
    -web/acid spitters are easily a higher priority than a praetorian/oppressor/detonator due to how deadly they are. I cant recall the number of dwarves who died to that lingering acid...
    -the special powder (scoot) and rocketjump (engie) overclocks are very op due to the movement they give you, although engie has better alternative oc like fatboy or breach cutter in general since it can go through walls. Special powder allows you to go so fast and far, you can even never touch the ground as long as you got ammo. It allows you to swap hover boots for something else too.
    -dont forget to upgrade your armors to their limits as they all give more healths at some points instead of skins (when its a weapon).
    -a personal preference, but i think pheromones are better than cryo-grenades since it can stop a swarm while keeping weakpoints active and deals a small yet great damage to most bugs.

    • @BlackAxem
      @BlackAxem 2 роки тому +8

      Just so you understand, weak points are nice, but they are not nearly as good as triple damage anywhere on the body (even parts that previously counted as armor). Ice is very very good for this reason

    • @_Nykolaii_
      @_Nykolaii_ 2 роки тому +6

      @@BlackAxem indeed. But i'ld prefer to take out an enemy quicker instead of wasting a cryo grenade or my driller's time and ammo when the target can easily be dealt with. And pheromones nearly imobilyze the bugs so its easier to do that/wander on your own sometime and take some weight off your team's shoulders. Usually, scout's cryo grenades are more effective when your team is here and focused on the frozen bugs and since the scout doesnt usually have a high dps setup, i prefer to keep the phero.

      Engie platforms are great and all but I HATE when they put the roof too low like just above my head and expect me to hang out in this shelter where I have 0 line of sight. All I hear are bug noises then they pour in from both sides right into our faces... Terrible. If you use plats put them up higher to redirect some stuff but do NOT block lines of sight. Seeing bugs coming from farther off means we can kill some of them before they are in melee range, esp the bad bugs.

  • @inquisition3173
    @inquisition3173 2 роки тому +16

    gunner tips: Learn when to drop shields and what kind of shields you need for different missions. Gunner is a great combat medic and can area deny bugs with a well placed shield giving your team time to breath, reload, and revive.
    Another big tip is to know when to hang out on a zipline, and when to be on the ground fighting with your team.
    He saves engineers platforms and drillers fuel with well placed ziplines for navigating rough terrain, sometimes his ziplines also help difficult rooms to wave fight in but on haz 4 and haz 5 it can be a detriment because hes prime food for Macteras and Acid Spitters. Still has a tactical advantage but dont think you are safe hanging out on a zipline over a canyon.
    Also know what guns to bring and when, minigun has the widest use of applications but the Autocannon has its own merits. however, Autocannons have a really long reload and on missions where you are on the ground being swarmed it can be risky. Missions like Doretta, Point Extraction, and Refinery are all awesome for Autocannon support. Additionally Autocannon + Cryolauncher is a bug deleter.
    Lastly depending on how you spec, Gunner is a good support against large single targets but do not waste time and ammo trying to killed them. Gunner is like a manned turret. You need to watch out for small and medium sized bugs. If you are trying to kill a Dreadnaught, Exploder, Oppressor, or even just a Praetorian, its a huge ammo sponge that has your teammates getting munched. Make sure you are clearing little bugs and then stripping armor, the armor stripping is a huge help, but just dont worry about finishing the job. This lets scout and engi can clean up whats left after the armor is destroyed.

    I just tried out an elite deep dive (supposedly god awful compared to the usual, exploder infestation on salvage primary and dreadnaught secondary) and I’ve mostly played gunner for it. Still can’t get past stage two.
    Here’s my current observations:
    As gunner, try to learn signs of when a situation is devolving and either clearing the situation or avoiding it. Say, a ton of enemies piled onto a downed player. Don’t waste a shield on that, help your team since enemies focused on down players are not hurting anyone and thus should draw no resources until suitable to draw them. Once you’ve dealt with the brunt of a swarm and whoever is still up can, then you can go in. But if it’s really bad for literally everyone because maybe you aren’t grouped up, don’t be afraid to go for a revive w/your shield or, something really useful, *SHIELD TEAMMATES WHO ARE IN A PICKLE*. It’s faster and safer to shield before someone is down than to shield afterward and waste shield uptime on reviving. I put my shield priorities in this order, highest to lowest
    I am in deep crap->Main group is in deep crap->Active teammate nearby is in deep crap->Downed teammate while team is spread and in deep crap->Resupply amid deep crap->Downed teammate while team is in not too deep crap.
    As engineer, keep those turrets up. Don’t forget them. If they’re too far to load, recall or reposition them. Also, the bug repellent upgrade is basically mandatory for defense objectives on platform gun. Also on defense objectives, please for the love of god don’t run nuke launcher. Friendly fire from the radiation really sucks.
    Scout, just run around and try to pluck away at the feathers of the swarm. Ideally in a mission where you know the team is going to get downed a lot, run cryo or pheromone nades.
    Drillers, just do what you do best as best as you can do. Drill out inconvenient terrain, not just to make bunkers, but to clear up spaces with cover for the bugs like the stone pillars in sand corridors or the pillars of crystal in salt or crystal caverns. Keep blowing stuff up with those charges, but prioritize crowds over singled out big boys. I personally use the SUMP PUMP, formally known as the corrosive sludge pump, with a major focus on slowdown and charge shots to cover big crowds and defensible areas.
    And for all the classes, except scout, stick somewhat close together. All three need each other to maximize efficiency, which is needed at this level. Even better with a scout around to lessen the load.
    Rock and Stone, and good luck to anyone trying to do this week’s elite deep dive because my god is it hard and punishing.

You get a relatively small area which you practice placing in the biggest wad of bugs, it is less likely to kill team being more compact, it makes less of a hole in terrain which can hamper kiting, you get MORE of them (4) and +2 on resupply, and the final kicker. The stun AOE is larger than the blast. So anything left alive inside AND a generous area outside the blast is stunned for a couple seconds letting you and the boys to get 1st shot before they move around again.

    gunner quick tip: if you're going to be in a large room for an extended period of time, place a zip that goes up at the highest angle possible, then place a zip parallel under it, to catch yourself when the eventual mactera hits you off the zip. ofc you can an engi to place plats underneath your zips, but I found that most engis don't usually do that
    also, remember that your shield isn't just for revives, pls use it when your team gets overwhelmed, especially on the mini mule mission

    It is an adjustment to change to haz 5. Really Need to specialize each class for thier role and fulfilling that role is harder than most realize. My personal favorite is driller by making space and to clear the path to priority targets with cryo cannon.

    • @Animalace3
      @Animalace3 2 роки тому

      I main Driller but haven't really used the Cryo cannon. That said, I use my drills like they're going out of style. If we're getting overwhelmed (and it's not a mini mule mission), I'm tunneling. If we're setting up for a swarm, I'm clearing obstacles. When the swarm comes, I'm using fire to set as many bugs on fire as I can. When priority targets appear, my C4 has its name written on it (alongside the swarm of grunts nearby it).

    I know I'm super late but my favorite secondary is the nuclear weapon secondary. Not only does it wipe out huge amounts of bugs, but can help put a soft 'no go' zone that weak enemies will die trying to get through. It's not practical in the least with only having 3, but I just love it. I've been sleeping on the Breach Cutter, but I already had the nuke at that point. Scouts can make excellent use of an Engi's sticky grenade, herding enemies into four massive explosions. I like the Shard Refractor a lot as well, just sweep from side to side and listen to the bugs actually pop. Good for pinpointing high value enemies with big damage, but while still good at AOE, lacks the nuke or the BC's effect area, though it CHEWS through Grunts, even the armored ones as the Refractor can be set to just peel armor off a baddie. Very satisfying to sweep it across a Praetorian's back and see it exposed all the way up to the mid legs.

    I think debuffs like neurotoxin, electricity and driller's sticky flames and (more recently) corrosive sludge should be mentioned. Being able to slow down a horde or a powerful single target can make the tempo of a fight much more manageable since the majority of the glyphids are melee centric. Nearly every class has some variation of neurotoxin or electrical damage available to them, which slows bug movement speed for 30% and 80% respectively and with varying durations depending on the class, weapon and overclock.
    A lot of newer players who venture into EDDs and Haz 5 who suffer tend to prioritise damage over horde control debuffs, and often become overwhelmed as a result. Most runs I've had where at least 1 player brings some kind of slowing debuff that can be applied enmasse were noticeably more manageable and more often than not, ended with success over failure.

    • @maxskogh6289

      The flamer also has added to the sticky flame a chance for fear. So the bug runs away from the group for a few seconds. I slightly remember there was a stun upgrade too. I feel like the flamer is underrated, most teams rather go for the freezer.

    • @Suiberis
      @Suiberis 2 роки тому +1

      @@maxskogh6289 I believe it's because most new players don't realise sticky flames is an area denial effect applied to the floor and not the bugs themselves. I've run into a handful of greenbeards who complained about it until I explained it to them.
      The flamethrower and sludgepump are arguably the best chokepoint/ tunnel fighting guns in the game because of that.

    I'm not someone who plays Haz 5 a lot, but I *do* main gunner. Gunner is great at long-range waveclear in particular--where the Driller wrecks house against Swarmers, the Gunner can quickly destroy groups of Grunts before they reach the team. Gunners can *also* specialize into single-target DPS--the autocannon's Feedback Loop mod is actually really good for this, but you can spec any of the primary weapons for waveclear or for single-target DPS. The shield is also critical--it pushes medium-sized or smaller bugs out of the way, giving you breathing room for a revive, and it also blocks projectiles.

      For minigun I treat it as a bug stopper with the stun it has. I use A Little More Oomph as I dont have the penalty to stop moving. Switch targets constantly to stagger them and try to hit the face weaks as a bonus to kill them quickly. But just keep spraying thru the wave to trigger stuns on the ones in the front. Also sticky grenades are pretty awesome. You get 6, and if you practice tossing them on the ground right in front of a group they can do some heafty damage + fear ones that lived. Tossing one on a preatorian = he usally turns around and runs in fear exposnig the butt right toward you. You also hit your team FAR less with those than the other 2 gunner grenades which I almost always lose my shield too hehe.

    Tip for gunner: Focus on the tankier bugs like Bulks, Oppressors or any bug that takes too much time for scout to take down. The worst thing that can happen is a bulk detonator getting too close to the uplink or Doretta.
    Second tip(applies to every class): Lure the Bulk Detonator away from Doretta. It isn't chasing Doretta, it's chasing the dwarves near Doretta. You can lure the Bulk away from doretta while your team defends the Drill Dozer. If you're doing that solo and a bulk spawns in good luck miner :)

  • @davidalexander4076
    @davidalexander4076 2 роки тому

    Gunner is your support class with his shield and focused DPS. I recommend field medic and iron will in case you get a team wipe. Setting up a shield and recovering two dwarves while ordering a resupply can turn around an entire mission.
    Shield when swarms are starting to overwhelm your team, as well as the ability to stun and damage the heavier classes such as boss bugs as well as praetorians.
    The tether may seem underwhelming but the fact that it gives you the ability to NOT GET SWARMED is a significant advantage that gunner has that other classes don't.
    Other tips from someone that's been playing since before dreadnauts:
    -Always kill every acid spitter before reviving a teammate. 2 shots will kill you.
    -ice grenades will ALWAYS kill flying enemies. So do well placed grenade launcher shots.
    -when building your character, more damage isn't always better. If your engineer's shotgun can 1shot grunts In the face, it's enough damage. Throw the rest into ammo and magazine size for maximum murder.
    -If you consume a (semi) frame perfect blackout stout upon starting a mission (4 seconds-ish) you'll be able to play a mission at a higher drunkenness level then you could ever thought possible.
    Rock n stone miners. I'll be seeing you in Haz 5.

    As gunner you really shine in long-range support
    Your weapons fire quickly and can saturate areas far away letting you give cover to teammates across the map.
    You're a scout, and you get surrounded by bugs off on a ledge somewhere, the driller isn't going to save you, the engineer won't be coming to the rescue, but hold out for a second or two and the gunner will send a hail of bullets or rockets to your coordinates.

    This may be a pretty Basic Gunner Tip far below the level of a Haz 5 but dont get into the habit of shooting bugs across the map lol, Its tempting cause you typically have the spare ammo and his effective range is much longer then the other classes (Minus Scout maybe), so you engage thinking "Even if I just get them low its better than nothing" but you still end up burning ammo that you dont need to, Its a bad habit that can be admittedly very helpful up to Haz 5 but then becomes more of a hinderance lol. There are times that warrant it sure, but it should be an exception
    Also dont hang on to shields too long, A lot of gunners OVER respect its utility in a sense and end up basically hoarding them for clutch situations, which makes fights more difficult for your team as whole. They are powerful so dont waste them, but they are tools meant to be used so use them lol
