3:20 honestly with DRG it makes sense. There is a little text section that pretty much says cost is what you owe DRG since your last promotion. Tabs, broken equipment, vandalizing property etc
Additional deep dive tip: It's a good idea to generally favor ammo in your loadouts for extra sustainability (applies more to elite deep dives, as regular deep dives tend to get flooded with nitra anyway).
extra ammo is only ever as good as that ammo's effectiveness at killing bugs, and the need for extra ammo upgrades definitely comes more into question with the deep dive format than any other with how much nitra you can hold onto throughout. i will almost always take extra damage over more ammo because extra damage keeps me alive in the first place while extra ammo only matters if I make it that far without having completed the main objectives already (which isn't a big ask at all for competent teams)

The fact that explosions will create hot rocks regardless was frustrating not the mention the vents.
A tip for those encountering egg hunts: The amount of big swarms (announced swarms) that can happen when digging out an egg is constant, though different for each tier of egg hunt. 4 eggs is guaranteed to give you exactly 1 swarm, 6 eggs will give you 2 and 8 eggs will give you 3. You can't determine which egg will trigger a big swarm, but you can be sure that if all big swarms have already been triggered you will not get another big one, and if you only have one egg left to dig up and you have one big swarm left it's guaranteed to trigger. I'd advise against calling the drop pod right after triggering one. Trust me, you'd rather not fight a swarm and the way-back-blockage at the same time if you can barely handle one or the other.

My recommendation for deep dives is if you do them solo, use as much ammo as you want. Awesome video! Don't worry us greybeards still like the content :D About nitra, at least in my experience I've had very few dives where it's in short supply. Obviously you shouldn't spam 10 resups in the first stage, but don't fall into the trap of "imma try and save as much nitra as possible" and then run out of ammo mid fight especially in an EDD. Preventative resups have saved my life and my team's life quite a few times. R&S!
I was soloing an on-site extraction at haz 3 the other day at the ice cave map, and the entire place only had 3 or 4 veins of nitra. Ran out of ammo several times during the mission and had to kite all the bugs around the cave will Bosco shot at them😂
Nitra management is essential, and part of that is knowing when to call resupplies. Generally you can get through a regular DD with one resupply on stage 1, leaving more for the more challenging stages. But I try to avoid calling them just before exiting the stage; so long as there's enough ammo to get back to the drop pod, better to fill up at the start of the next stage because maybe some of the team don't need it just yet (and any supplies left at the end of the stage are lost). This frugal approach can simplify the final stage a lot. If you've got a big nitra surplus, you can go straight for the final objectives and not worry about mining or ammo conservation.
Even though I'm already well versed in Deep Dives, I love watching videos like this, just to see how well they're explained. One thing I will say though, for any greenbeards looking to get into Deep Dives, the part mentioned at 5:27 about the Hazard Levels is mostly irrelevant. All this means is that projectiles from Spitballers and Acid Spitter for example will be faster than on lower Hazard levels, and enemy health and damage will increase. This also scales with how many dwarves are in a single mission for most enemies, but again, it's mostly irrelevant. The true difficulty comes from the cave layout itself. You could play even all the way up to a theoretical Hazard 6, but have an extremely easy time simply because the cave layout is open and easy to roam about. It'll be a little more difficult because you need to constantly be moving about, but with an open cave, that should be easy work. On the other hand, you could have an extremely difficult time on even just Hazard 3 if the cave is incredibly cluttered and cramped. As a relatively new player who has roughly 560 hours in the game, this comes from experience. I used to have a hard time on even just Hazard 4 missions, but now, Hazard 4 missions feel pretty easy, and I do them regularly. One perk I'd recommend using on every dwarf except for Scout is Dash, this allows you to get out of almost any tight situation instantly, as long as it isn't on cooldown. For Scout I would use Field Medic instead, having an instant revive for your teammates is invaluable, and it's best fit for Scout since you can get in and get out very quickly with your grappling gun. And if you have the extra Active Perk slot for it, bring Iron Will. Iron will might seem like a not so great perk at first, as even at max level, it only lets you get up for another 12 seconds, and then you go down again, right? Well, that isn't entirely true. If you gain health in any way before you go down automatically, you'll actually remain standing, until you take enough damage to go down again. This means you can grab some red sugar or health from a resupply, or if you have Vampire as a Passive Perk, you can quickly power attack a medium sized enemy (Which is a Grunt or anything larger) to kill it, and remain standing. You're also entirely invulnerable until the time you would normally go down without health, so you can rush in to revive a teammate as long as it's mostly safe and you won't go down again after reviving them, or while trying to. The fact you can stay standing can be a game changer, and make or break a mission being successful, which is why I always bring it no matter what. If you use Iron Will to get back up and use Vampire to get your health, I would recommend using the power attack damage bonus upgrade for your pickaxe, doing twice the damage with your pickaxe can really be helpful in some situations, and guarantees you'll get the kill quick enough as long as you power attack either a Grunt, Slasher, or Grunt Guard. Keep in mind that the effects of Vampire work for anything classified as Melee, so your normal pickaxe swing works, Driller's drills and impact axe work, and perhaps another thing here or there.
I got really lucky with parties and aced the first 3 elites I ever saw, now I'm a few months in and I barely clear an elite-2. The haz levels make so much sense now and/or some nasty combinations of biomes and mutators.
I'm gonna say as a tip that bad luck will always happen in deep dives alot, and inevitably losing alot of progress is to be expected. I did repair mules and when the refuel part started, a bulk detonator appeared and it seemed hopeless. Id just say that its not the fault of the players sometimes and that the game just shits out the worse case scenario sometimes.
To anyone confused still about why you have to "pay" to promote: way back when they were still in beta or perhaps right after they hit 1.0, your dwarves Retired after level 25. They weren't promoted initially. When you're dwarf "retired" they had to reimburse the company for each bullet fired, medical expenses, explosives used and every barrel kicked in the launch tube. That's where the payment fees came from initially. They kept it after changing it to promotions.
Perfect little guide man thank you. I just got my scout to 25 and I'd say I'm still a green beard. Looking forward to my first deep dive, I feel ready! Rock n stone!! ⚒️
I’ll be honest, the way I get the info for what to expect from the dives aren’t from Reddit or Discord, but rather GSG’s livestreams when they show up. Now that I got that off my chest, amazing video as always (I may be a tad bit late on the draw, but who cares) and it really helped me understand the basics of the dives after I promoted my first dwarf.
additional note: to save time and potentially resources make sure to delay a resupply call until after you have passed through to the next stage instead of waiting for someone to arrive while in the drop pod
I don't have any general tips that you didn't already mention, so I'll drop one for my fellow scout mains. If you need to clear a bunch of enemies fast and you kmow for a fact you're going to die, do a kamikaze. Equip: Vampire, See You in Hell, and Iron Will. You can grapple to the ceiling to down yourself, clear all the bugs around you, and then Iron Will so you can power strike the nearest grunt. I've clutched several missions this way. Driller is another class that benefits from melee damage buffs so that works too.
Small correction-player rank goes up every 4 class levels(3 pips and then back to empty as the 4th), so you'll get 1 blue rank if you raise each class by 1 level, or any class by 4 levels, etc.
Mine all the nitra you can. Don't call in a resupply near the end of a stage. Make sure to clear out all resupply pods before leaving a stage. Try to balance out your ammo consumption between weapons to make resupplies more efficient. This also includes using your traversal tool and support item between resupplies.
3:15 I like to think that DRG isn't exactly a mining company. More like an agency or guild even where they have members, "employees", on call to do tasks and it's up to the employee to take on that task. Everything they collect or don't collect reflects their payments. Since they probably aren't hourly they are selling everything they find to DRG. Probably why they won't hesitate to leave you behind, No dwarf? No payment needed. Also look at ammo resupply. That ammo is a ready to go drop pod that they only send you after you collect a payment pretty much. They company doesn't say what it's for, they don't want gold they specifically want nitra. Hence why you pay to gain access to higher level weapons, upgrades, and promotions. You don't earn them by recognition you pay the company to get them, not to mention it cost creds and materials, so you can have better odds at better money. DRG is all about spending money to make it lol.
For (Elite) Deep Dives it's usually well advised to go with an ammo efficient build. Especially if you get an elimination mission, that can really put the team into a Nitra deficit. Engineers, Cryo Cannon Drillers, Impact Axes, and Beastmaster are all good options for getting every little bit of ammo conservation.
I'd love to be playing deep rock galactic right now, but my pc broke and I can't afford a new one right now, so im just going to enjoy watching things like this.
My head canon for why dwarves need to pay for promotions, weapons, weapon upgrades, and cosmetics is be because the DRG company is a decentralized co-op where dwarf employees are also the shareholders, and they invest into the company by paying for their own equipment.
I'm new to this game, and I think I found one of those matrix things in the wall during a random not-Deep-Dive mission. "Ooo, glowy spot on the wall! . . . What the hell is this thing?"
0:34 Wait a minute! A Purple Prestige frame on the dwarf's portrait? Is that a new promotion level that was added recently or is it just a texture mod?
And the biggest tips, if your playing scout, light up the area and mark nitra. If your playing engineer, platform under ALL NITRA. I've lost count how many times I've played as a class other then scout and been the one to mine nitra in high places.
I haven't tried any Deep Dives yet, but I'm about to Promote my Engineer and my brother has already promoted his Driller, so this is really useful information before we even try.
1:15 interestingly I've recently found that it preserves your reload state as well (saving whatever stage of your reload you were in) in between stages of the DD.
When you access the promotion mission it says that any outstanding debts have to be paid in full in order to be eligible for promotion, so that's the explanation they give for why you have to pay to be promoted.
Even as a player rank 630, I never knew the specific difficulty of the regular deep dive. Thought it ramped up on the third stage instead of staying the same. I knew what the elite difficulty was but not the regular deep dive. Rock and stone!
Oh Sniss, you poor little angel. You don't BUY your promotion, of course, you BRIBE management to sign the forms now. Otherwise they might wait with this formality until all OMEN Towers are decommissioned. Ferengi rule of acquisition #33: It never hurts to suck up to the boss. ^^
Deep Dive tip: ALWAYS USE THE RESUPPLIER PASSIVE PERK Nitra is incredibly valuable. I cannot overstate the importance of maximizing the health and ammo received from supply drops.
I've started playing a week ago and I already did my first Deep Dive. It took me many attempts (because I was doing it solo and with no help) and my final time was 2 hours. Since I don'l like the idea of entering a server with people I don't know and don't share the same language, I've been playing solo all the time, and I sticked with Gunner because I like the feel of having the big guns.
If your primary objective is a Point Extraction, and your secondary a DREADNOUGHT, you only have few minutes before swarms start comming in. I personaly suggest killing that big fat ugly boss-bug as soon as possible. PS: Love your videos. Amazing quality, ear-candy voice.
In a deep dive a good strategy is to mine Nitra on the first two stages and only mine it it you are low on the final stage, since the last is usually the hardest you want to be able to focus on objectives the whole time.
I dunno if this is a tip or not but maybe... Dont leave the drop pod until you've cleared out a potential swarm sitting right outside when you land? Cause you take no damage in the pod.
Here’s a good tip for deep dives and elite deep dives: Mine nitra no matter what get to at least 80 each stage to ensure to have some for the next stage
I think a lot of people would appreciate some perk and weapon build suggestions for elite deep dives too and maybe team composition. For me personally, 2 gunners, 1 scout and 1 engineer seems to be the best team.
@@placebo2361 I personally felt like the gunner brings a bit more to the table for elite deep dives than the driller, but you need scout and engi for swift resource gathering. While driller is awesome but doesn't feel essential to elite dives in my opinion.
I've only ever soloed a deep dive once, with three drone revives per stage. For an up and coming miner, teams definitely outpace the drone in terms of survival chances, even if the drone trivializes certain objectives.
Here's a li'l piece of advice: if you're running beast master, let your team know! If they're any way competent they'll mark armored grunts for you instead of immediately murder them. This works both ways, though. Actually listen if a teammate asks you to stop genociding every bug you come across.

I don't need to learn about Deep Dives I'm just here to admire your epic editing skills.
When I realised that all I had to do to get home was Rock and Stone. I never lost another deep dive.
I got really lucky with parties and aced the first 3 elites I ever saw, now I'm a few months in and I barely clear an elite-2. The haz levels make so much sense now and/or some nasty combinations of biomes and mutators.
This I great! Its hard to realize how many little things are different with deep dives and you summed them up really well.
7:55
What?! Ignore gold? Rubbish guide! 0/10! Leaving the gold... This is definitely what a leaf lover would do.
L
I'm gonna say as a tip that bad luck will always happen in deep dives alot, and inevitably losing alot of progress is to be expected. I did repair mules and when the refuel part started, a bulk detonator appeared and it seemed hopeless. Id just say that its not the fault of the players sometimes and that the game just shits out the worse case scenario sometimes.
Do you do deep dives alone? If not you go get your partner to distract the bulk or do the distracting while they stand on the zone
But it ain’t bad luck when I am a scout and the driller yells “explosives placed” and having a heart attack
7:49 ur the only utuber i know that actually had new zealand as a time zone, THANK YOU
I only just realized, staring at the thumbnail, that the Deep Dive icon looks like a dwarf with the drill bit as his beard
Regular deep dives are perfectly soloable with Bosco, I would recommend however the perk that lets you break out of grabs from enemies
If your an engi main like myself you will be pleased to know that your turret ammo will be refilled when going from one deep dive mission to the next
The deep dive logo would make a good desktop icon.
Okay sniss but here's the real question
what do you actually know about divin' down in the deep?
i apologize
@@nopeishope9988 dont apologise. it was perfect.
When your nitra goes down you can call that weapon freeze-
Oppressor on your tail put that shit in slow motion (IFG/Neurotoxins)
additional note: to save time and potentially resources make sure to delay a resupply call until after you have passed through to the next stage instead of waiting for someone to arrive while in the drop pod
This is a tutorial video I would seek out.
Thank you so much about the tips! Especially on the egg trigging swarm. I was wondering about the eggs stacking waves, and it does!
Small correction-player rank goes up every 4 class levels(3 pips and then back to empty as the 4th), so you'll get 1 blue rank if you raise each class by 1 level, or any class by 4 levels, etc.
Is THAT how it works!
I thought it was straight up games played, interesting.
@@kjj26k i thought it was the number of missions, till i realized that it wasnt the number of missions
I already know all of this but I still love these videos since they are so well done and genuinely enjoyable to watch
7:59 man that hurts but it makes so much sense
One time I did a deep dive, before we had pot's o gold, and 3 cassus detnators spawned (big gold detonator). We reached well over 2000 gold.
Thanks. Answered all my questions. Mainly the hazard lvl. 3, 3.5, 3.5 for the three atages
Honestly I was on board until you said to leave behind the gold. I never thought I'd hear some leaf loving swill coming from such a respectable dwarf.
DRG Corporation making dwarfs pay for promotions: STONKS
This game is so well made. Thanks for the tips
Great video! I love how you edit them. Quick question, can I play deep dives with someone who hasn't promoted a dwarf yet?
No, it won't let you start.
@@CIinbox aw man, alright thank you.
Should've watched this yesterday before I did my first deep dive. Worked out though because I'm a gigachad stock scout.
Good stuff as always boss ❤️
You are alive!!! please play with me in drg
@@Baguette18 it’ll be another month roughly before I’m back, but I’d be down to catch some games sometime
ooh that would be fun just join my discord server and dm supreme leader bread @AxisKronos
I'd love to be playing deep rock galactic right now, but my pc broke and I can't afford a new one right now, so im just going to enjoy watching things like this.
thank you sniss for keeping up the content for drg i havent played drg in months
My head canon for why dwarves need to pay for promotions, weapons, weapon upgrades, and cosmetics is be because the DRG company is a decentralized co-op where dwarf employees are also the shareholders, and they invest into the company by paying for their own equipment.
Thats actually Cannon, its what the Dwarves owe for everything they have done to Ruin the spacerig IE broken barstools and beer
I spent 2 hours on one.
the majority was being greedy w/ nitra / gold / running in panic from the ghost boomy.
I appreciate the different time zones for the deep dive resets, very considerate
I'm new to this game, and I think I found one of those matrix things in the wall during a random not-Deep-Dive mission.
"Ooo, glowy spot on the wall! . . . What the hell is this thing?"
Wait if one of my classes is promoted than can I play a deep dive with another class that isn’t promoted since im technically promoted?
"ignore the goal, time is important"
okay i wont touch it
*but ima do it anyway*
Thanks for this. I just promoted my first dwarf and was curious what I was getting into.
It's a very little thing, but the timing on that text editing at 1:16 was super smooth. I like
Ive played DRG like once but this is such a good video I now know everything about this game
I never realised how the DD drill icon is also a dwarfs beard. Das coo'
I’m pretty new to DRG, but it sounds like since I play regular missions on 4, the normal deep dives should be easier (3.5).
Good to know! 👍
0:34 Wait a minute! A Purple Prestige frame on the dwarf's portrait? Is that a new promotion level that was added recently or is it just a texture mod?
its a mod :)
@@sniss Okay. Just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing out on anything.
I one tip I learned about the elite deep dives is to think very carefully about what mission objective to complete first.
Keep in mind after being promoted you get an extra active perk slot uuuse it it will help.
love your vids! its always worth waiting the time for them to launch (cause they are gold bro)!
My first deep dive ended when a bulk detonator decided to pop in while we were doing a repair thing for salvage ops.
That sucked.
Deep Dive tip:
ALWAYS USE THE RESUPPLIER PASSIVE PERK
Nitra is incredibly valuable.
Just bought the game on sale and this video of yours looks good and is very informative. Thank you.
This was super helpful. Thanks for making this as I’m a noob.
I think a lot of people would appreciate some perk and weapon build suggestions for elite deep dives too and maybe team composition. For me personally, 2 gunners, 1 scout and 1 engineer seems to be the best team.
Best squad is always the full four engi, driller, gunner and scout. Ofcourse only if you have someone comfortable with all classes
@@placebo2361 I personally felt like the gunner brings a bit more to the table for elite deep dives than the driller, but you need scout and engi for swift resource gathering. While driller is awesome but doesn't feel essential to elite dives in my opinion.
Swiss your videos are so informative, polished and entertaining. Keep up the good work I love DRG!
BABE WAKE UP SNISS UPLOADED LESS GOOO
I’m gonna reach level 25 with my first dwarf tomorrow, scout. Can’t wait to unlock the promotion terminals, and gonna start leveling driller.
Karl would not approve of this video. ALWAYS GRAB THE GOLD!
Sniss.
Afraid you’re wrong on the dive difficulties.
Deep dives:
S1: Haz 2
S2: Haz 3
S3: Haz 3.5
Elite Dives:
S1: Haz 4
S2: Haz 5
S3: Haz 5.5
I first thought that the deep dive terminal was where I get my missions
I failed my first deep dive yesterday. I hope I will do better next week with your tips.
Rock and Stone.
Very good and comprehensive guide, cheers! Most of the other videos titled "guide to deep dive" are just some dude's discord stream.
The promotion cost is to assure you keep all your awesome gear of course!
