I recently purchased a 2022 Highlander, and I can tell you this is annoying when you open the door, and the engine shuts off. I really hope they fix this, or I might be looking into an aftermarket solution.
I have an 18 Camry XSE. Just figured out it has remote start thx to these videos. A little annoyed to pay a subscription fee only to learn the drive off option doesn’t work! Fingers crossed that update comes sooner than later. The Toyota customer service reps don’t know their product like you!
Steve I hope this remote start with drive off trickles down to my 2021 toyota camery hybrid with and update. Keep the videos coming to Pittsburgh Pa. I learn a lot from them. Have a blessed go and god bless 🙏.
No patch yet! my 2023 Camry XSE V6 fully loaded was purchased in December 2022 and as of December 2023 will shut down ... unable to drive away. Toyota App Remote Connect, I have recently renewed my subscription as not $80 for 1 year because they add sales tax, and my final cost was $86.40. Expect the price to rise every year therefore, $90 x 9 years (1st year trial) is $810 to have the Remote Connect App. in which possible that Toyota may discontinue the App Subscription within a few years but do not expect it to be greater than 10 years as the techie world evolves. I plan on having my 2023 Camry for life or as long as there is gasoline. I may have to buy a 3rd party remote starter before or after the year 2033.
I would love that in my ‘21 Highlander (Platinum)!! I don’t use the factory remote start for that “stupid” Safety Feature of shutting down on current remote start. I manually start my car like the olden days when wanting to warm up 😂🤣
Exactly I’ve gotten to the point. I just go out to my truck, push the brake pedal with my hand and the start button to warm my truck up in the morning. it’s pretty sad when you have a brand new truck 2023 and it can’t even do what my wife’s 2014 Ford fusion can do no I don’t need all the bills and whistles but to me that’s not brand new technology lol I still absolutely love my new Tacoma, though that’s just the biggest gripe that I have

I’ve owned eight Toyotas in my lifetime and I kid you not, I’m done with the brand. I called Toyota and received the same BS response they’ve been saying of “summer 2023”. The thing that upsets me the most is, I hear the new car buyers are getting 2 keys now. That’s fair…. Not! I’m curious if your dealership actually let people know that they weren’t getting 2 keys after they signed the contract or beforehand? Nothing against you, your videos have always been helpful. I’m just finished with Toyota over the situation.
We told people upfront about the key situation and had people sign an acknowledgement that they were told about Toyotas issue with the fobs on some vehicles. Toyota has told me that they expected to start contacting people to get the fob issue resolved by the end of April. They would be going in order of sale to get everything done. It will show up as a service campaign and you will see a notice that looks like a recall
We just got our Sequoia last month and it only came with one key. Also there was a big sticker on the side window stating this as well. It wasn't a surprise.

A little off topic. Although I just picked up my 23 Highlander and hoping this update happens. Just picked up a 23’ Highlander Platinum. With remote start are there any automatic features. Such as, if it’s cold does it automatically turn up temp, turn on heated seats, steering wheel, windshield de/icer, and front rear defrost. Or on hot days decrease temp, ventilated seats or a/c.
Most annoying part for me is it shuts off when I’m putting my daughter in the car. When it’s just me it’s fine, like 3 seconds, but a minute or two when loading my kid bothers me.
This only applies to 2023 vehicles that had a Refresh (possible change?) or start of a New Generation or a newly released model. I purchased a 2023 Toyota Camry XSE V6 in December 2022 and when the vehicle has been Remotely Started ... it will shut down and require a restart. Also, to my understanding since the 2024 Camry is still an 8th Generation it will not have this function either because it was not a Refresh or had become a new 9th Generation Camry. Next, about Toyota App Services. I have recently renewed Remote Connect for 1 year for my 2023 Camry in December 2023. The cost was $80 plus NY sales tax of 8 percent final cost was $86.40. Personally, there should not be any sales tax but it is just another way for Toyota to give you the shaft. It is bad enough we have to pay for these App Subscriptions. Toyota is not about Customer Service or satisfying their customers, in fact, Toyota does not care about your Safety, all Toyota wants is your money, The reason I mentioned safety is that Toyota keeps using Bridgestone Turanza EL-440 tires as OEM tires that are known to be poor quality and defective as tread wear will diminish quickly, the belts will shift and sidewall bulges causing a possible tire blowout or that you are unable to control the steering and crash. The Bridgestone Turanza EL-440 performs terribly on wet surfaces as they are actually summer tires. I am waiting for a class action lawsuit against Toyota.

With this update Toyotas will allow you to start the car without it shutting off by pressing the start/stop button, right (provided you have the fob in the car)? That's how most cars do it now I think. At least that's how Fords do it. If I'm wrong please explain.

We apologize as the remote start and drive off feature for your 2024 Toyota Highlander is only available as a factory-installed option at the time of manufacturing and not possible to install once the vehicle leaves the factory. Toyota does not currently offer this feature as dealer installed accessory nor in kit form for installation at a dealer post-sale. "
There should be an update later. It is not available as of yet no. It is not available on the Highlander now factory or other. They are slowly transitioning
I hope my 2020 Tundra is included in this update? Not interested in purchasing a new one with the feature. I purchased the 2020 for a specific reason and will keep it for many years to come.
@dodobird809 if, in the summer it's hot as hell out... you'll want the A/C on.... likewise in the winter, you'd want the heater on... keep in mind it won't be cool or hot until the engine temp is up. In the toyota, though... you'd have to set that before starting the car.
I have a 2023 Rav 4 hybrid and called toyota and gave me the BS its a safety feature, no its not, why do i have the remote connect app when i can do the same thing with the fob, or even get in turn on and leave the car running? And come back and would you believe its still on, this shouldve been like that from the factory, so im legitimately paying extra for a feature that was what i wanted and they showed me worked in the dealership but doesnt work for me. Its so annoying, its a risk more than safety feature. Imagine "your running or walking and you feel you are being followed, instead of just warming it up and getting in and rolling off, no it shuts off and you waste time" ergo more of a risk than safety, the car is jot gonna roll or leave you if its parked, its not gonna let you drive off until u press the brake and button

Excuse my annoyance to my glaringly COMMON SENSE point I am going to make. WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY put a limitation on the number of times one can REMOTELY start the car? The HYBRID specifically. I had knee replacement surgery and not able to get my vehicle to reset it after the 2 TIME limit I've now EXHAUSTED. What the F is wrong with these supposed BRILLIANT PEOPLE's COMMON SENSE? This pisses the sh!t out of me. Why not once per day and let it automatically reset for THAT? SMFH!
What? Still have to push the start button? No, we don’t want to have to do that at all. We want to hit the brake pedal and put it into gear. Time for Toyota to figure out the simple things in life. Return back to what they had right. 🤦🏻♂️

23 Tundra Platinum doesn't have this as of 9/13/24.

Getting in and pushing the brake and pushing the button is really do different than it turning off..still the same steps to get to driving
But your not engaging the starter again which cuts down on the Life of the starter.
