- Finally Toyota is updating the Remote connect remote start system to stay running when you open or unlock the door. It looks like things are changing soon! Remote connect and drive off is the name of the new option.

They said that the new Crown will be the first with the new system. The patch will be available first for the new head unit meaning 22 and 23 tundra, 23 Sequoia and 23 highlander. It should be coming really soon and I will do a update when I have a better idea of the timeline.
Nice! Just got the 2023 Highlander.
Will this apply to a 2022 Toyota 4runner limited?
Would definitely love to have this for my 2022 Tundra before we get into the heart of winter here in the northeast. Hoping they push this out the door soon even if it means a trip to the dealer to flash the update.

Hi Steve, I have a 2021 Toyota Tacoma Trd sport. I see people on line who can use their key Fob to remote start. It's not working for me to press the lock button three times.
I also did not extend my remote subscription through Toyota which is probably why key fob remote start isn't working. Do you know if this correct? Thanks

Same with 23 taco trd OR.... HATE this stupid remote connect. 10 mintue shut off, and stupid issue of touching anything on the truck and shuts off the remote start. This has been standard features on all other car makers! Why toyta thought this was a good idea, no clue. They missed the mark. I don't think they will push to the old generations Tacomas, since new one is set to release next year or this year.
Does this rule apply to thr 2024 RAV4 XLE Premium

I know this vid is a year old but I just ran into an issue with my 2020 Lexus es 350 F Sport. I’ve had the car for a year and the remote start works as normal. You turn it on and it’ll shut off when you open the door. But yesterday when I opened my door, the car remained on and it shut off when I switched gears. Then I didn’t want to turn on after a few tries. Did something change with the remote start with Lexus?
That’s good to hear since I’m looking to trade in our 2020 explorer ST for a 2023 sequoia.
It’s a bit frustrating Toyota hasn’t been able to provide this sooner since other car manufacturers have. I have to deal with this in my Tacoma. The explorers remote start puts the car in a standby mode and no one can take off in it until you get in it with the key, push the brakes and start button. All while not shutting off. Necessary while loading the kids up in Arizona summers.
I have been told they will update older toyotas as they go as well
100% agree, loosing the power during a hot summer day is so annoying,
man, i'm hoping it works for the 2021 Tundra i have with remote connect. i'm excited. Thanks Steven.

As always thanks, Steve for the video. Always good incite on features and updates.
Anybody have updates on this for 2022 models? I’d imagine the MMI doesn’t differ too much from car to car of the same year model. I just picked up the 2022 Avalon (RIP). If a simple over the air update worked on the 2022 Tundra, I’d guess it would work with any other 2022 vehicles equipped with remote connect. Upon reaching out to the Toyota Brand Engagement Center they replied, “At this time there are no plans to retrofit legacy remote connect Toyota vehicles.” I’m not too sure they understood my question though. Maybe (I’d hope not) Toyota will just refuse to send this out to all pre-23 vehicles equipped with remote connect. Thanks again, Steve for keeping us loyal Toyota owners up to date! Cheers. 🍻

For those of you who have plug-in-hybrid vehicles you probably have discovered that in the cold winter days while plugged in, the OEM remote start only runs the HVAC system nothing else. Also if you have a rav4prime like me, you'll be upset with the fact that it only runs the weak-ass heat-pump and will never burn gasoline. Add this to the short run time, and your lucky to get more then 30-40f inside the car on a cold day.
you still have to unplug in for driving. And it will shut off that heat/ac when you open the door.
Adding an aftermarket unit makes a big difference with 45 min run time, and full take over. You can even program it to run gas mode if the temperature is below a programable set point.
There is one major catch tho...if the plug spout is inserted during this remote start request, the most it will be allowed to do is remote start in ACCY mode, with no heat, and no AC, and no EV or GAS mode engaged. Meaning you'll have to go out into the cold, pull out the plug, go back inside, then remote start the rav4prime. What is the point??!
i have a safe fix for that issue as well.
Its all about saving energy

I have to still open the door fumble around to find the button, shut the door, go back and open the back door; where any other car I've owned I can just tap my hand or wrist to the handle and all doors unlock.. And it really is just beyond me Why the driver's side only unlocks one door but the passenger side opens all doors. Do you have any insight if that's a setting somewhere that can be changed or maybe the dealership can change it like they can turn off that fake V8 sound? Thanks

They said the patch is too large to be an over the air update and they are trying to make it small enough where they can send it over the air but it may be something you need to have updated at the dealership when available. It should be coming really soon and I will do a update when I have a better idea of the timeline.
It's Toyota's way of making profit, must pay for those App services instead of being Free for the life time of your vehicle. We pay dearly for car technology, but get into an accident, insurance company deems car totaled and they recover the parts and you get stuck buying another Plastic Car for a higher price. Auto industry not stupid, they make nothing to last long, and auto insurance companies are loving it too ... they are in cahoots together and making large profits. Banks love it too as they foresee you getting a higher APR ..interest rate. Scam and Scheming.
Is there any mention on when the tundras should receive the update?
not yet. but i would believe soon. when they originally told us about the tundra they had told us it would have this feature. Most of us assumed it would.be on it when it came out. i even tried to find a setting to enable it.
They said that the new Crown will be the first with the new system. The patch will be available first for the new head unit meaning 22 and 23 tundra, 23 Sequoia and 23 highlander. I like the way it works now.
Start the truck to warm it up on cold days. After 10 minutes it shuts off. Doors are still locked.
The other way to look at it is, no one can steal the truck while it's running.
You will still have that part be the same.
No one can steal it while the truck is running when started by remote unless they have the factory remote with them. Are you ok?
the car could just shut off when you hit the brake to put it in gear if you don't have the key.. way better solution.. having the whole car shut off is completely unnecessary and causes additional strain on the engine in the cold
Are they going to do it for ‘21 Tacomas as well?
no
